If You're Listening: Declassified
Matt Bevan, host of the wildly popular podcast If You're Listening, takes listeners on a fascinating journey through the murky waters of history, memory and the stories we tell ourselves. From a decade-long dispute with his mother-in-law over a comment he may – or may not – have made, to unravelling the mysteries of world-shaping events like the Yalta Conference, the assassination of Julius Caesar, and the collapse of the Soviet Union, Bevan explores how history is often a patchwork of conflicting accounts, misremembered details and outright myths.
With wit, curiosity and a knack for uncovering the unexpected, Bevan dives into tales of lemon trees conjured by Stalin, Bob Hawke's emotional misstep on Tiananmen Square and the bizarre flight of a German teenager into Soviet airspace. Along the way, he examines how our biases, assumptions and even evolutionary quirks shape the way we interpret the past – and what that means for how we understand the present.
If You're Declassified will make you laugh, think and above all re-examine whether the things you think you know about the world are, in fact, true.

This is EXACTLY my type of book. Deconstructing random historical moments with wry Aussie humour? Perfect. Learning something novel about topics I only knew about vaguely? Hell yes.

Although some of the history stuff was interesting, and there were the odd quirky humourous antic dotes, it was a tad long in places, and I am not sure all of the actual 'topic' titles really suited the stories being told. Basically, it was a collection of his podcasts, telling historical stories and events, with some connection and mirroring with today's events and times/people. Suitable for teens and adults, but not sure the teens would really bother with it, as he does drag a little and it's more about history than current events. Audio was well spoken though, though as a podcaster, would have been very disappointed if it wasn't.

They should replace modern history textbooks with this book. Complicated world history, nuclear science, and assassinations made not only accessible but enjoyable, funny. I would recommend this book to any human with any interest in anything in the world.
It couldn’t possibly live up to that hype I’m sorry, sue me I thought it was good

I'm a keen follower of the podcast and the youtube program.
Matt Bevan is always informative in a delightful manner.
Slightly mind blown after listening to the book all weekend but it's an excellent way to spend your time and get a few things done at the same time.
Highly recommended, he covers a lot!

Entertaining historical anecdotes. I enjoyed reading this book very much. I learnt several things. Hopefully if I retell the stories I can do as good a job as the author.

If You're Listening: Declassified blends history, politics and personal anecdotes to explore how myth, bias and conflicting memories shape our understanding of the world. With his trademark wit, Bevan revisits major historical events and strange true stories.
I loved this book, and am a big fan of the pod. Bevan retains his trademark charm, and the book captures the same engaging storytelling style that makes the podcast so compelling, while giving each story room to unfold in greater depth.
