Tropes fits my likes but somehow I found Ryder to be too much of an insufferable prick and the power imbalance with Owen didn’t feel right.
There wasn’t enough background to explain Ryder’s self-imposed loneliness/fear of abandonment which was mentioned multiple times but he was right to be angry at what Owen implied.
It was a relatively short novella but a bit rushed towards the end.
