VICTORIA —————— All she wants to do is finish work, go home, and binge her favorite anime. But tonight, nothing works out the way she wants it to. Her keycard won't open a single door or the elevator, and every bit of technology seems to have betrayed her. Stuck on the third floor of her workplace, she starts to realize that she's not alone.
Whether that's a bad thing.. well, that depends on who you ask. —————— DOLLFACE —————— He wants every inch of her, every hole, and he doesn’t care if she’s screaming or barely alive when he takes her the way he wants to. He’s been planning this for a long time, and tonight everything falls into place. But then her ex happens to be lurking outside her workplace again. He won’t allow him to screw his plans up. Because tonight is a sinner’s wet dream. BLOODLUST is calling his name. ——————
Side note: This is a standalone erotic horror novella, but WILL share the same world with other novella's. Please check your trigger warnings because this will be dark, depraved and spicy as HELL.
KERRIGAN SHANE SPENDS HER DAYS AT HOME WITH A CHAI TEA CLOSE BY, WRITING DARK, IMMERSIVE STORIES AND INDULGING IN HORROR EROTICA AND PITCH-BLACK ROMANCE. SHE IS MARRIED TO AN AVID BOARD GAMER, AND TOGETHER THEY ARE RAISING THEIR THREE CHILDREN.
Wholly crappers what did I just read? It was like trying not to look at a car crash. But was I intrigued??? Yes! Was it also the darkest thing I’ve ever read? Also yes! Am I picking up the next one right this second?? Hell yes! ( oh no it’s not coming out until July 😞)
I liked it! I’m a dark romance girly, not normally into erotic horror at all, but I read the blurb and I was like: “… Okay, screw it, I HAVE to try this, and if I don’t like it… Well, then I’ll go back to d.r. Easy!” 🤷♀️ Easier still when I found out it was only 200 pages. I’d normally assume that that isn’t long enough to construct a proper story, but I’ve learned multiple things today while reading this, it’d seem, because this book is quite a ride 👏😁
But this book is not for the weak, so pleeeaaase read the damn triggerwarnings, girl! 🖤
Thank you to Kerrigan for letting me read the book 🥰🖤
The book had me at the warning: "This book includes so much darkness that I thought I was unable to write until I met my pitch-black genre author friends. This story will include many things that any normal person would NOT want to happen to them." How can you refuse a book like that? And still if this doesn't do it for you, the story will! Here we have Victoria, an accountant trying to survive a glitchy, late-night shift at her office building. Just as the technology starts to fail her, she realizes she’s not alone and what starts as a tense "stuck in the office" thriller quickly turns into a dark game of cat-and-mouse. Add to this a masked man or two and one of my favorite tropes Captive x Captor and you have the perfect novella! But what really makes it 5 stars is the ending because the twist is absolutely fabulous!
Millions thanks to the author for this great story! I can hardly wait to read more in this universe!
ARC review! Buckle up, because this one is a spicy, dark, unhinged ride! Kerrigan Shane hooks you from the very first chapter and doesn’t let go. The tension builds perfectly, pulling you deeper into the story with every page. Just when you think you have a handle on where it’s going, it completely flips on you. And that plot twist at the end? I have so many questions and absolutely need answers.
If you love intense, pitch black characters and stories that push boundaries, this one will definitely hit. As always, check your triggers before diving in.
I don’t even know where to start with this one… Overnight by Kerrigan Shane completely pulled me in from the first page and did not let go.
The energy of this story is dark, intense, and honestly a little unsettling in the best way. Being stuck in that eerie workplace where nothing feels right? You can feel the tension building the whole way through. I was hooked straight away and couldn’t put it down.
What really got me was how the story plays with control, fear, and obsession. It’s one of those reads where you’re constantly questioning what’s real, what’s not, and where it’s all going. It’s definitely on the darker side, so go in prepared for that energy.
And the twists… I genuinely didn’t see them coming. Just when I thought I had it figured out, it shifted again. That ending? I’m still thinking about it.
✨ If you love darker reads, intense atmospheres, and stories that keep you guessing — this is one for you. Just make sure you check the trigger warnings first
This was hard for me to rate…honestly if anyone remembers Blumhouse TV did a partnership with Hulu and did a horror anthology. Anyway this felt like it was one of these…just way more graphic.
I enjoyed aspects of this and the ending I think gave it a bit higher rating for me. Although I will say the ending both shocked and underwhelmed me at the same time. I still am not 100% on reasons or the overall dynamic. And it’s leaving me questioning my review. 🤨 The pacing felt a tad off even for a novella. Like we didn’t quite get enough information.
Warning: this book is NOT for anyone who gets triggered by Horror Erotica: kidnapping, rape, body mutilation and blood play!
Kerrigan Shane writes it well. Nice flow, easy to read, keeps reader engaged as the plot develops becoming more depraved with each page turned.
I thought to myself half way through the novella - this is some deranged shit, but the plot twist at the end made the book's very dark and twisted theme insightful, and left me wanting to continue on with the next in this series.
I have never read a book by Kerrigan before and wasn’t sure what to expect. I was given the opportunity to receive an ARC and I’m happy that I did.
Make sure to check triggers as this is very dark and graphic. With that said, I did not see the ending coming at all and had me rethinking everything I had read before the ending. I enjoyed this read a lot! Even the ending!
I really wanted to enjoy this, dark and depraved is my absolute jam, but it ended up being a frustrating read. I found the pacing dragged badly at parts and sped through other parts. The characters are unmemorable apart from Garrett for obvious reasons and the scene/ timeline changes felt jarring and choppy.
Overall, this book had an interesting premise but just fell completely flat for me.
Edit : I dont like how the author requested a written review when I reviewed it quickly through kindle. I go back and write my reviews anyway, but this left a bad taste in my mouth and still does months later.
As readers we should be entitled to review exactly how we wish to as long as we keep it clean, I seen also she asked another to be kinder with her words when she reviewed it how she seen fit, her opinion was it was bad writing. Her opinion is allowed and valid for her. Wish goodreads was left to the readers because authors like this leave it an incredibly uncomfortable place to review books.
Victoria (vicky) is an accountant. And has a very recent Ex boyfriend. This is a pitch black erotic story. Triggers galore. Thanks Kerrigan for the pre-read. It is a very sick and twisted read. Just up my alley. I loved that ending.
I stumbled across this novella on KU and went into it knowing almost nothing beyond the blurb. An hour later, I was finished and looking into more of this author’s work.
At only 166 pages, Overnight is an incredibly fast read, but it wastes no time pulling you into its dark and twisted world. This is very much a pitch black romance / erotic horror novella, and the trigger warnings should absolutely be taken seriously.
The story follows a tense cat-and-mouse game that quickly spirals into something far darker and far more disturbing than it initially appears. The further I read, the more invested I became in seeing how everything would unfold.
The atmosphere was intense, the pacing was quick, and the story kept me engaged from start to finish. While there were a few moments where transitions between scenes felt a little abrupt, that’s also something I can forgive more easily in a novella where page count is limited.
The horror elements, taboo themes, and extreme content served the overall experience and kept the tension high throughout.
If you’re looking for a dark romance, this isn’t the book for you. If you’re looking for an extremely dark, twisted, taboo read that leans heavily into erotic horror territory, this one absolutely delivers.
Definitely a one-sitting read, and I’ll be checking out more from Kerrigan Shane in the future.
So this was all over facey-b with the reviews rolling in & of course my FOMO plus seeing one of my fav authors rating it too meant it was a straight up purchase. And my god did this jump straight in & it did not let up through out the whole read!! 🤯😱
Victoria is trapped at work, not the snowed under, can’t get away trapped but the psychically no way out trapped. The systems are down, her key card doesn’t work, she can’t even access the stairwell.
And why are the phone lines down? Even her cell is out of service! What’s going on?! It feels eerie, like a scene out of a horror movie waiting to happen…it can’t be happening to her though right?!
WRONG, a 6ft tall doll faced masked man has come to claim her & he wants no disturbances to get in the way of his fun 🫣
She is royally F’d 😬
WOW!! This was RELENTLESS, and that ending 😱🤯 ohhh that was naughty!!! I didn’t expect it at all, I was thinking one thing about the brothers but it turned out to be another 🤣 I’ve purposely left out bits in my outline because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone! 🫣😅
👏🏼 it was brilliantly done! I read in one sitting! It is very heavy on the abuse so please do check those triggers before reading but if you like it dark like me then grab it now so we can discuss the depravity & that ending!!! 🤎
“Overnight” by Kerrigan Shane is an intense and twisted 5-star read! Victoria is finishing up work and ready to head home for the night, but she quickly realizes she is trapped inside the building. Dollface has plans for her, and they definitely don’t involve letting her leave.
The trigger warnings for this one are extensive, and Kerrigan Shane holds absolutely nothing back. It’s dark, disturbing, and disgusting in the best possible way. The story is fast-paced and can easily be read in a single sitting, which is exactly what I did on an airplane, thankfully with no one sitting next to me. The ending completely caught me off guard, and now I can’t wait for the second book to come out!
Thanks to Kerrigan Shane for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC for free and share my honest review.
This was my first book by this author and OMG this was something else ! I did DNF this book but picked it back up and so happy I did because I needed up finishing this book at work because I couldn’t put it down ( plus the book was pretty short) lol. Now this is what I would consider a pitch black romance but without the romance element if that makes sense. This is an erotic horror and it definitely lived up to its name. But what bothers me the most is that I actually enjoyed this book. So what does that say about me lol . Of course it was 95% smut considering the category the book falls in but it did have the TINIEST PLOT and I definitely didn’t see the ending happening. But one thing I will say with this book CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNING !!
I was blown away as this was my first book from this author. I can never look at a flashlight in the same way again😂 my face scrunched up in disgust and if my eyes popped any further out of my skull then I believe I’d be blind right now😂 this was perfectly executed, entertaining although disgusting as its intended☺️ I couldn’t praise this author enough for how well written, well paced and well structured the story is🖤 congratulations my lovely🖤xx
Kerrigan really hit all the marks and then some! Sexy, bloody and just down right disgusting. I absolutely loved every second of it and once I picked it up I could hardly put it down. I love a good twist and this one really threw me! I wasn’t expecting the ending at all. This one really just did it for me and would definitely recommend to anyone that’s down with the sick and twisted.
First of all thank you to the author for the ARC. I appreciate it so much 🥰. This book is freaking Nuts!!! Disturbing, dark and disgustinggggg but in a good way ofc if you’re a little bit messed up 😈. This was a quick read with an amazing plot, amazing characters and the smut…was out of this world🥵🥵💦 PLZ CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS
This book was insane and the twist at the end had me with my jaw on the floor like WHAT?!? Please, please do not go into this book thinking it’s an easy read, I can handle it, I have no triggers because I can promise you it goes from 0-60 in 2.2 seconds flat no warm up, just BOOM woahhhh. I enjoyed it and I’m curious to see where it goes from here for sure!
Overnight gives you that quick, twisted hit of dark horror‑leaning intensity that keeps you locked in. It’s unsettling in all the right ways and leans fully into its wild, chaotic energy. Check your triggers, buckle up, and enjoy the ride.
This book was absolutely unhinged and totally erotic horror material so please check your triggers I beg of you. It’s a short little novella with so much horrific smut but the ending was borderline pleasant and the plot twist was so surprisingly. This truly is an amazing book, the perfect short fast paced read to get you out of a reading slump
I honestly don't even know what to say about this. It was exactly the kind of dark, twisted story I was looking for. I liked it a lot, and immensely enjoyed the twist at the end. I did not expect it at all. This was my first book by this author, and it most likely will not be my last. It's hard for me to find an erotic horror that's actually as dark as it claims to be. If you're like me, on a hunt to find a book so dark it makes you question your own life choices, give this one a try. It didn't quite get there for me, but it got closer than most others I've read.
What did I just read…? Seriously. I’m still trying to process this one. 😭
Overnight was dark, twisted, disturbing, and completely unhinged in the best/worst way possible. The story starts with Veronica at her office trying to leave the building when she and her ex-boyfriend are suddenly kidnapped. From there, things spiral into a violent psychological nightmare full of captivity, manipulation, gore, depravity, and mind games that just keep escalating chapter after chapter.
This is NOT your typical dark romance. This leans heavily into erotic horror, and the trigger warnings absolutely need to be taken seriously because this book goes THERE.
What kept me hooked was the constant feeling of “there’s no way this can get crazier”… and then somehow it did. The atmosphere felt claustrophobic and chaotic the entire time, and the MMCs were completely morally black and unhinged.
But the ending? The ENDING.That plot twist completely messed with my head. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, everything flipped upside down and suddenly you realize the entire scenario was tied into their Discord fantasy roleplay. I literally sat there staring at the wall afterward questioning everything I had just read. 😳
If you like:🖤 erotic horror🖤 psychological mindf*cks🖤 morally black MMCs🖤 captivity/captive themes🖤 gore & disturbing content🖤 “what the actual hell?” endings
then you’ll probably devour this.
This book is definitely not for everyone, but if you’re looking for something dark, shocking, and unforgettable, Overnight delivers exactly that
Y’all already know I love my books pitch black. The darker and more traumatic, the better…and this one absolutely delivered, even in novella form. As always besties, check ya trigger warnings!
Victorias accountant just trying to get through a late night shift, pushing to make a deadline in her office building when everything starts glitching out. Lights, tech, all of it. And then she realizes…she’s not alone. What starts off as a tense, locked in office situation quickly turns into a dark, twisted game of cat and mouse. Which is always one of my favs.
From the first page, this book grabs you and doesn’t let go. The atmosphere is so claustrophobic and heavy, and there’s this constant tension that just keeps building. It’s not just the danger. it’s the way everything blurs together in a way that feels unsettling and addictive at the same time.
The spice? Chefs kiss, it blended into the tension in a way that made everything feel even more intense and unpredictable. Dark, chaotic, and just unhinged enough to fit the story perfectly. And that flashlight scene?? 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
And the twist? That’s what really sealed it for me. I usually have a pretty good idea where things are going, but this one completely threw me.
This was dark, gripping, and honestly just a wild ride from start to finish. If you like stories that push the edge and keep you guessing, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Victoria is getting frustrated. She stayed late and now her phone isn’t working. So she decides to just leave. But when she tries the elevator and the stairs door her key card doesn’t work. And of course her phone still isn’t working to call maintenance. So she heads back to her office and not long after exactly what she feared would happen, happened. Now there’s a masked guy here to kidnap her. Of course she tries to not make it easy on him. This book was every bit the erotic horror book that it promised. I finished it so quick. I absolutely will be checking out the other books by this author. Thank you!! Make sure you check your triggers though as this is very dark and graphic. I thought I knew who one of the guys were around chapter 6 but I was very wrong. I did not see the ending coming!!
What the hell did I just read?! I’m in a few FB groups and so many people talked about DNFing it because of how depraved, brutal, and disgusting it is, so naturally I had to read it because I’m curious.
This book was a WILD ride, I kept putting it down and then coming right back because I couldn’t wrap my head around what I was reading; like what is wrong with the person who wrote this and what is wrong with me for not just putting it down. THEN came the last 20ish pages and I was out loud yelling WAIT WAIT WHAT THE FXCK and then the last couple pages SPOILER: they know each other and they low key planned this?! She was in on this?! Was she is on all of it? Or just some of it? I did not see that coming and thought this was just some brutal torture nonconsent p0rn on paper, which technically it is but clearly not nonconsent given the last couple pages. I need the second book now because I NEED answers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love a good twist, and this one definitely got me.
I went into Overnight expecting a brutal horror erotica novella, and while it absolutely delivered on the gore, chaos, and "what the actual fuck did I just read?" moments, there were a couple of twists that genuinely caught me off guard.
This is horror first, erotica second. It's graphic, disturbing, unapologetically dark, and absolutely earns its trigger warnings. If you're looking for a sweet romance, this isn't it. If you're looking for a serial killer nightmare packed with gore, obsession, and enough shock value to make you question your reading choices... welcome.
Definitely check the content warnings before diving in, because this novella pulls absolutely no punches. If you enjoy pitch-black horror, extreme horror erotica, and books that keep you guessing until the end, this is worth picking up.
This was my first ever pitch-black read. I was very nervous and intimidated starting, but from start to finish I was absolutely intrigued and engrossed. Kerrigan Shane always does SO well! All the way down to her writing style. Personally, for me, it’s so fluent and flows so well to me! There was one part that mayyyy have… triggered me? It made me a little queasy, but even then, I still couldn’t put it down!… and oh my gosh!!! That plot twist is something you absolutely would NEVER see coming! Once again, Kerrigan leaves me speechless at the end! Such a great read for those pitch-black readers!!
Alright, alright Kerrigan Shane I see what you did here and it’s fucking phenomenal 😂 Should I be concerned about me enjoying this novella way too much ? Hmm 🤔 maybe. Do I care enough? Nope, absolutely not!
And this flashlight scene 🔦 haha I probably will look at them differently from now on 😅 Thanks for that Kerrigan!
I devoured this novella in no time and I loved every second of it ! It’s unhinged, it’s spicy 🌶️ and it’s not holding back.. it’s art like Dollface liked to call it 😁
