Good but Not Original
In the 1960s, there was a television show entitled “the twilight zone“. One episode was exactly or almost exactly this scenario. This story flashes out that episode. The main difference between the two is that the Lieutenant in the twilight zone was British. That being said, I recommend buying and reading this novel..

very unsettling
I read lots of military sf. Undoubtedly more than i should. This is the 4th book I have read recently that fits a disturbing pattern.
Lots of short declarative sentences, many thoughts or themes repeated for emphasis. An author who appears from nowhere and then starts making multiple books quickly. One begins to wonder just how much of this is coincidence?
However, this book is unique in one way.
At least as far as I made it, the plot line seems eerily similar to that of the movie, Pearl Harbor. More coincidence??
In my personal opinion, it is not worth reading any further.

Rerun
This was a faithful recreation of the Twilight Zone and well done. In fact, it has more depth than the script for the TV show. But I must ask “Why?” It already exists in another medium and generally covers the same material. I saw the list of future novels which, I suppose are similar to this opener. Good luck, sir. I hope they work out.
