***Short Story***

A trip to the beach is usually fun and relaxing. But when the guy, who broke your heart, is on vacation at the same beach, just five doors down, suddenly, it isn't fun anymore.

Hollis Brooks hoped she'd never have to lay her eyes on Mark Harrison again--not after she caught him cheating on her in high school. But when Mark shows her how much he's sorry, and what he would do to win her back, holding on to her heart got a little bit harder...

I loved this as a short story! It was not an overly drawn out story for a simple and sweet story.

I totally get Hollis's issue with her ex, Mark, and how, as a teenager, getting your heart broken can be horrible and devastating. Mark and his attitude towards Hollis were very childish but fitting given their age when they had dated. As was Hollis's immature reaction to shut every guy out because of it.

Many people would say that they just had puppy love anyways and move on but their story is similar to a couple of couples I grew up with and those couples have the strongest and best marriages 15+ years later.

I love that Mark tries to push Hollis to be more mature and hear him out in this story to achieve this once again for them. Not only does he have to go through her emotional barricade but her two friends.

"I hope this last week has brought you some closure. Now we can both let each other go."

F*** that! I wasn't letting her go. She was it for me. Always had been...

As for the sparks that fly when they meet up again and the vacation ends, well you have to read to see if they were fiery or sizzled out.

I loved how these characters were written and that the story didn't need to be filled with fluff.

I have to say that this is such a cute story and I am so glad that I got the chance to read this book.
Hollis Brooks got her heart broken by her Ex-boyfriend Mark Harrison when they were just 16 years old. Now we all know that some people say that when you are in love at that age that it is puppy love and others say that when you know you know.
Well Mark did in fact break Hollis's heart and she never really let her heart heal because she never forgave him or even gave him a chance to explain what happened and what she really did see.
Now Hollis is 19 and she is going on a trip with her girlfriends but little did she know that Mark would be on that same trip. Fate?! Well I am not 100% sure, you will have to read this book and see for yourself.

J.D. Rivera did a wonderful job with this short story. I have to say that I love both of these characters but out of all of them I have to say that I really loved Mark. Ugh I know that he is 19 and I am 32 but he totally manned up in this book and got lots of bonus points from me! I have to say that this book was refreshing and it made me look back at my youth and remember all the mistakes that I have made.

Always us is a short adorable read full of funny lines, charm, redemption, second chances, love and crazy friends. Mark and Hollis are thrown back into each other’s lives as they find themselves on vacation at the same beach. Unfortunately the meeting between these two is not appreciated as three years earlier Mark broke Hollis’s heart leading to trust issues and Mark settling with one night stands. Mark’s pursuit to make up for his mistakes reflected in his actions, and showed through his words how much he truly loved Hollis despite her attempts to keep him at a distance. His sexiness and abs were swoon worthy whilst his affection and care for Hollis cemented his place back as boyfriend status. J.D Rivera has a knack for writing short stories that hook you in and make you connect with her characters leaving you always craving for more as you fear the end pages. I loved Mark and Hollis their chemistry was hot and sweet. It was also great to catch up with bad boy Ryder and Megan. I’m now left craving to see Brandon get his own story please!
