I'm normally quite taken with Ms Mynx's books but this one was just all over the place, too much unnecessary drama and the BDSM irked me. Not because of BDSM as such (even though I must say I'm quite done with that particular trope in IRR, subservient and dominance is just not my cup of tea) but more so because of how poorly done it was. The sane, safe and consensual part of it all was just an afterthought that none of the participants really abided to.
The book started out fine, I guess, even though I found all the characters seriously lacking. They were not likeable. None of them. At all. The heroine was trying, unsuccessfully, to be a strong black woman, but in fact she was just a wuss, her best friend was overbearing and a meddling biatch, the ex was despicable and the hero was a psycho creep passing as a Dom. With a dysfunctional family, involved in darkish S&M secret societies (major eye-roll at this point). Cue in all the unnecessary and unbelievable (to me) drama I mentioned earlier.
I've read dark romance before (like Flawed by Francette Phal) and digged those. This one though: just no. When I finished Teach Me I was just happy it was over. I could not care less that they got their HEA.
This IS NOT real BDSM people. BDSM is sane, safe, and consensual. This book is just full of another take on 50 Shades of BS. The lead heroine is a complete wuss. Her bestfriend is just a crass cow. And seriously, 6 inches of hard steel? Really? That's so average it is frightening. I mean, she goes on and on about his six inch penis. I can't wait to write my extended review with gifs on Goodreads. This book made my sex-positive, feminist brain EXPLODE.
One of the things that I love about Sienna Mynx is that she has a diverse catalog of books. From historical to contemporary romance Mynx gives her readers well developed stories. However, there was just something about this one that didn't grab me completely. I liked Destini and Bryce just fine and the sex scenes were some of the most descriptive and erotic that I have read by Mynx. Mynx is a master at writing love scenes that will make your pulse race! Despite the enticement of amazingly erotic love scenes, TEACH ME wasn't as engaging as many of the other books that I have read by Mynx. I can't quite put my finger on what was missing for me. The one thing that I do know is that I REALLY didn't like Destini's best friend Naiya. She was intrusive, inconsiderate, and self serving all at the expense of the friend that she claimed to love and need in her life. The relationship between Destini and Nayia bothered me the most. I was annoyed with Naiya practically every time that she appeared in a scene. This is a very steamy erotic read. Not my favorite read by one of my favorite authors, but overall a good story.
**My Warning: If you are not a fan of BDSM erotica this one may not be for you. This is not a dynamic visited in most of Mynx's books. TEACH ME has very descriptive BDSM scenes so just be aware that there will be scenes beyond the sensual sexiness that Mynx normally offers.**
Sienna Mynx is one of my favourite authors and I have read many of her books.
This story was very different (in my opinion) from what she normally writes.
Destini and Bryce's story was a bit of an emotional roller-coaster for me. I felt for Bryce he has a hard time articulating all the emotions he felt for Destini. This one had me on the edge of my seat right to the very end of the story.
I did not care for Destini's best friend one bit. She interfered way too much in Destini's life. I would have kicked her to the kerb for sure!
I love Bryce and Destini's story. Sienna Mynx is one of my favorite authors, and while I expected a steamy, erotic story; I got so much more. I was not expecting the heart that came with this story.
Destini was a shy, reserved teacher by day and an erotic author by night, writing erotic stories anonymously. Bryce was from a wealthy, well established family with an obsession, namely Destini.
The author has done an excellent job of building up the characters, highlighting the good and bad. Even exposing her overbearing, interfering friend meddling that brought her and Bryce together. The back story that made Bryce who he was was heartbreaking as well as heartwarming in the end. I'm glad that his vulnerable side was exposed. I truly enjoyed this story.
This was... interesting. It had its moments, but to be honest, it felt lacking in some areas such as in continuity; It felt like it jumped from scene to scene. Then the back and forth between Destini, when she was writing Rain, and then she had Rain in her head talking to her- it was messy. Bryce was all over the place and clearly didn't know what he wanted. The ending felt rushed and the whole thing with Bryce's family was just trumped up as a secret, his found 3/5 sisters and they now live together, and his brother and father are off doing their own thing... really?! M'kay 😒 The premise was there but it was executed weirdly. This is my first Mynx story but I'll read more to further gauge her writing style.
I read so many rave reviews about ✍ Sienna Mynx that I have her entire Destino - Batagglia Mafia 📚series, which all ten are all on my TBR read; but I wanted to start reading her work with Teach Me🤷. Bryce & Destini's story started out a bit slow & it dragged due to extensive articulation of the main FC's inner dialogue as she struggled with writing her book. The story thankfulky picked up however, and the author immersed you in a💥 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶IR , mild BDSM romance with darkish elements, high angst, obsession & lots of😲surprising twists & turns! The Epilogue was the Chef's 💋 Happy Reading!
Sometimes there is a fine line between BDSM romances and dark romances. I'm not a fan of dark romances. So there were moments where I wanted to stop reading because it felt like a dark romance in some places. But Bryce reminds me of Heath from Wuthering Heights. A tortured soul. And this romance made me think of Katherine and Heath in some ways. I was proud of the heroine at the end. She stopped the abusive aspect of their relationship. The hero as well.
Could not really connect to this story. For me it felt very wishy washy, especially near to the end. Apart from that, the book has been written well, no misspelling or grammar errors.
I think Sienna is an amazing writer. This story is good, but the heroine is not my cup of tea. I've seen this type of heroine in some of Sienna's other stories. The man is extremely alpha and domineering and there is intense chemistry between him and the heroine. But, the heroine is extremely resistant and comes off as very hostile and almost feral (my opinion) towards the hero. Eventually, she runs away and is gone for an insane period of time, leaving a formerly confident and formidable man a wreck or shell of himself. Sienna's stories are very well-written, but there's constant, intense angst between the hero and heroine that leaves me exhausted after reading. But, I'd definitely read Sienna's future books.
Okay so I've hit a reading slump lately. The past few books (by few I mean a handful) have just left me feeling mediocre at the end of it all. So I went rummaging in my archive of books I had downloaded but never gotten around to reading.
Enter miss Mynx and her gifted mind....
This story had everything I look for and need in my romances.
It's that bent, twisted and cracked kind of love that captures my attention and keeps me rooted to my bed as I turn page after page. The story was well paced but the momentum really picked up after Destini finally gave in to Bryce's demands.
And Bryce.... Oh Good god. He's that cracked Alpha that when pieced together is an even more beautiful picture that the flawless image he was before.
Definitely worth a read and a reread in the event my reading recession returns.
All in a great read, a few things that bothered me though
All in all this was a great read, a few things that bothered me were the grammatical errors. A few words were either misspelled or not there. Destini's best friend Naiya was a pain in the ass. I wouldn't've had forgiven her for intervening. It's not her life to make the decisions for her. I felt like Destini knew what she was getting into when she agreed to be with Bryce/Sir. She bothered me with Russel. She claimed she loved him but she continued to deny her feelings for Bryce.. Bryce was a true alpha male. He was jealous unnecessarily but that comes with love. It would've been nice if the author told the story of Bryce's childhood to get a better understanding of why everyone in the book are the way they are.
While is was intrigued reading this book, I did not enjoy it as much as I expected. Ms. Mynx is one of those authors that I will purchase and read whatever she writes. Even though I did not enjoy this book as much as I wanted, I will still read all this authors work. In this I felt there were too many questions left unanswered. I am a detail person and found it difficult to reconcile some issues. There were so many issues thrown in this book that it was difficult for me to keep track. When Bryce's family issues were introduced late in the book I was thrown. I thought I finally grasped the story line for it to only be muddied by this added part. As stated I enjoy this author, I just didn't enjoy this book.
When I read the description of this book, I was skeptical of whether or not I would enjoy it because I'm not used to reading this type of book. Let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised!!! I really enjoyed the story line and it had a steady progression that kept my attention throughout the book. The only thing that put off a little bit was how the main characters addressed each other at the end, but that was minuscule. I will definitely recommend this book!
I was a little skeptical of this one because I did not rate don't leave me this way high. But teach me was a great read on this Valentine's day. Seeing destiny and rain reach their happily afters was great. sienna did a great job with a complete story with background and spicy scenes. Now I patiently wait for amore.
This book had potential, but lost me when Destini lost herself. She frustrated me to no end! I mean the whole situation with Russell infuriated me. Who fakes a deadly illness, confesses his lie and is forgiven with the splash of a drink in his face. I would have killed him! I hated the way she gave up on Bryce, but claimed to live him. I was left unfulfilled even with the HEA.
I have read a lot of sienna mynx novels and this is so different and so unexpected. It was a great love story with a little twist of bdsm and I loved it. Can't wait to have more from this author.
Sienna never disappoints loved this book from beginning to end. I wish there was more scenes in the club. I would recommend this book like I would with any other Sienna books
Like many of Sienna Mynx's works, this book has a lot of twists and turns. Keeps the reader wondering what will happen to the erotic couple that is at one moment hot and the other moment cold? I will be looking forward to your next book Sienna Mynx!
This book was so good I didn't put it down until I finished it.I really enjoyed Destini's awakening at the hands of a strong but troubled Dom.Sienna Mynx writes books with substance and I was very happy with this book.
This one is a no for me. There was a lot going on, underdeveloped subplots, useless plots, half back stories, faux BDSM. abrupt conclusions, etc. Just too much wrong. I couldn't get into. Skip
