Achilles Drakos is every girl’s dream.
Charming. Gorgeous. Popular. The captain of the football team and an untouchable golden god of Knightsblood University, where the most elite mafia families in the world send their heirs.
But I accidentally peeked behind that perfect exterior, when I stepped into the wrong dark fantasy, and into the hands of the wrong masked monster.
Now, the shy good girl no one notices just became his prey.
I’ve seen the devil behind the gold.
The darkness he wears like a second skin.
The predator now hell-bent on dragging me kicking and moaning into his vicious world of sadism and sin.
I know I should fear the devil.
But I might be more afraid of the girl who craves him back.

The Devil We Crave is a fully standalone dark college romance. No previous books in the Jagger Cole Universe need to be read before diving into this book or series. Readers are highly advised to read the TW inside.

Thank you to Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for an ARC of The Devil We Crave in exchange for an honest review.

TW: Off page SA of a character that is discussed throughout the book

I really don’t know what Cole puts in his book, but I devour them every time.

The Devil We Crave is the first book in a new series, and better yet, it’s a second gen. So not only do we get new characters, but we also get to see what their parents (and others) are up to now. It’s also set at Knightsblood University, the “mafia college” with the four different societies that has been the setting of prior books by Cole.

This book in particular follows Achilles Drakos (Neve/Ares) and Yelena (Nero/Milena), both current students at Knightblood. After Yelena is assaulted, she tries to take matters into her own hands so her abuser can face some real consequences. Her plan for revenge, however, is sidetracked by a masked man who just so happens to act on all of Yelena’s darkest (and secret) fantasies. As their relationship progresses, secrets test their connection. And of course, all of their friends (read also: family) have their own opinions.

Yelena may think that she is weak, but is so strong. While maybe not in a conventional way, she stands up for herself and doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do.

Achilles is a classic OTT possessive MMC who isn’t quite what he seems. He falls fast and hard for Yelena and isn’t going to let anyone or anything stand in his way.

I absolutely loved all of the Easter eggs that Cole left for other couples in this series. And if my predictions are right, some of the relationships are going to be so messy (and entertaining).

Cole delivered a fun and enticing read, while also treating sensitive topics with care. I can’t wait to see where others books in this series go, and for further cameos by some of my favorite couples.

I went into The Devil We Crave as my first Jagger Cole book and was immediately intrigued by the premise: dark academia, masked men, rival mafia families, secret societies. It definitely promises all the dark romance vibes.

This is the start of a new spin off series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone, so I never felt lost jumping in without reading the previous books.
The story follows Yelena, a 19 year old FMC with a fascination for dark romance fantasies, and Achilles, the morally grey mafia heir hiding behind the perfect golden boy image. The chemistry between them is intense from the start, and if you are looking for a very spicy dark romance with stalking, obsession, and secret society elements, this delivers.

For me, though, this book felt like two very different stories. The first half was harder to connect with because I honestly did not find either main character particularly likeable. Yelena came across as quite immature and frustrating at times, while Achilles was cruel in a way that did not always work for me early on.
The second half was much stronger. Once the relationship dynamic settled into more of a rhythm, I found myself enjoying the story a lot more. It became more emotionally engaging and easier to invest in the characters, even if it never fully reached the level of obsession for me.

There is a lot of spice throughout the book, although some scenes and phrases started to feel repetitive after a while. Some of the dirty talk and wording also just was cringe for me and pulled me out of the story occasionally.

Overall, though, this was an enjoyable read. It did not completely blow me away.

♥️ I truly missed Jagger’s mafia world! ♥️
This time, we’re stepping into the next generation—the mafia heirs. The famous elite university where the children of the world’s most powerful crime families are sent to study is filled with privileged students, legendary last names, and expectations that weigh heavier than crowns.
We have Achilles Drakos, the son of the Greek god Ares and the vampire queen Neve, heir to the Drakos empire, and Yelena DeLuca, the mafia princess, daughter of Nero “The Wolf” DeLuca and the Bratva ballerina, Milena. 😛
What starts as a thrilling chase quickly turns into a dangerous game of temptation, obsession, and undeniable chemistry. Achilles and Yelena push each other’s limits, bringing their darkest fantasies to life. But when the masks come off, the darkness, depravity, and twisted desires lurking beneath the surface prove to be far more dangerous than either of them expected. 🌶️🔥🌶️🔥
A fresh, addictive, and seriously spicy new series with all the mafia drama, forbidden attraction, and chaotic energy I love. The younger generation definitely knows how to keep things interesting!
At first, the huge cast of characters and family connections can feel a little overwhelming, especially if you're trying to remember whose child belongs to whom. But once you settle into the story and start recognizing the offspring of our favorite mafia couples, it becomes impossible not to smile—and laugh while remembering all the crazy things their parents got up to. 🤣😛😏
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dark. Addictive. Sinfully spicy. I can't wait for more from this new generation. 🖤🔥

I have been DESPERATELY waiting for this book and omg it did not disappoint!!! My love for Jagger’s books started with the Dark Hearts series so finally getting the second gen honestly felt so full circle for me.

Achilles was absolutely unhinged in the best way possible. That man made ZERO apologies for the lengths he went to just to make Yelena his and honestly, I ate it tf up 🤣 Yelena really found herself with Achilles and I loved their chemistry right from the start. They’re so different on the surface but deep down they’re actually so similar.

The friend/family groups were chef’s kiss and I already have my suspicions about who’s getting paired up in the next few books and let me tell you right now, I am FERAL for some of these future couples 🤣

Seeing Ares & Neve again was SOOOOO GOOOD!!! Some of the moments had me dying laughing and I loved getting little moments with Nero & Milena too. And Laz…yeahhhh. Hi daddy 🥵

I’m really excited to see where this series goes next. Jagger always gives the perfect mix of suspense and spice and these books seriously never miss.

Thank you so much to Jagger & VPR for this ARC 🩷

One elite mafia college, four secret societies, and a lot of tension…

What can I say? It is sexy, intense and very dark - just the way we like it 😉 Please read the TW before you start this book.

:: Tropes ::
• Enemies-to-lovers
• Mafia romance
• Knife play
• Dark academia
• He falls first
• He stalks her
• Rival secret societies
• Morally grey anti-hero x Good Girl
• Dual POV

Jagger Cole writing is just magnificent. As soon as you start reading, the plot grabs you and it's almost impossible to stop.

This is the first book of the new series “Dark Descendants”, which features the heirs of families from previous series of Jagger Cole (you do not need to have read any prior book).
The Devil We Crave follows Yelena De Luca (daughter of Nero and Milena, from Dance of Madness) and Achilles Drakos (son of Ares and Neve, from Deviant Hearts).

During the summer, Yelena goes through something that leaves her traumatized. When Yelena is preparing her revenge, suddenly, caught off guard, the whole thing slips into one of her dark fantasies... With an unknown masked man.

“I’m looking at a Devil
A captivating nightmare”

The next day, she realizes that her masked man is none other than Achilles Drakos, the Golden Prince of Knightsblood, who apparently is not so golden. And her biggest mistake was drawing his attention. And now, she just became his prey.
Achilles became fascinated with Yelena and this consumes all of his thoughts. He wants to know everything about her, and he resorts to any means to get what he wants, even if they are morally wrong. She is his new and only obsession and he has no problem showing her that.

“She’s my forever obsession”

This is a toxic relationship, where the darkest fantasies are fulfilled. Achilles is sure of what he wants, but Yelena is struggling about her desires. She doesn't want to desire what she craves, but it's impossible to resist.

“He’s not just the inexorable pull of gravity beyond the edge of the cliff.
He’s the black, intrusive thought that makes me take that last step.”

In a distorted and twisted way, Achilles pulls Yelena to drop the mask and be herself, to accept what she really is and what she really wants. Between doubts and insecurities, he shows her how strong and who she really is, even if she doesn’t seems to acknowledge it.
Even when everything seems on the right path, Yelena and Achilles have to overcome some difficulties that will put their relationship to the test. Could their bound survive?

“I would do every single thing again, baby. Every ruthless calculating, unforgivable thing. Because the alternative is a world where you’re not mine, and I don’t even know how to want that world.”

I absolutely loved this book. I found the plot incredible, and the development of both characters was amazing: Yelena, who began to feel more confident about herself and show what she truly feels and wants, and Achilles, who, despite not regretting some of his actions, knows that they hurt Yelena and gives her the power of choice, instead of imposing it on her.

Jagger introduced a lot of characters in this book, but by following along with the family tree available on the author's website, you can keep up and understand the connections between them 😉 And it was pure delightful to “see” some of the characters from previous series.
Oh, and the tips that Jagger Cole left us regarding the next books in the series? Oh boy :D :D :D

Thank you Jagger Cole and Valentine PR for this ARC! I can’t wait for the next book.

When they say the night is “dark is full of terrors” I usually picture dragons, direwolves and maybe a vampire. However, after reading this book, my mental picture goes VERY much somewhere else now.

This book is full of men who are walking red flags, a trigger warning list longer than my latest CVS receipt, and quotes are likely making my suffragette ancestors turn in their graves. Yet in spite of the 608 page count, I devoured this book in three nights.

Because on the other hand, this also a love story

About two people who have had to wear a mask all their lives in order to manage everything on their shoulders

Expectations, legacy, the public eye, and their own personal darkness

Who finally get to take those masks off because they found someone, THEIR someone

Who makes them feel safe enough to take it off and feel free to be themselves for the first time

And that’s the kind of romance worth loosing sleep over

For my mafia romance lovers, this one needs to be on your TBR. For those of you who swooned over Josh and Aly, Yelena and Achilles just might be your next favorite couple. Masktok girlies who thrive on the thrill of the chase and book boyfriends who are several shades darker than grey, add it to the TBR and thank me later 😉

Expect:

⚜️ Good Girl FMC
⚜️ Possessive/obsessed MMC (who stalks)
⚜️ Rival/dueling families
⚜️ Dark Academia
⚜️ Secret Societies

A huge thank you to the Author and Valentine PR for allowing me to be a early reader for this book 🤍

I think this is the darkest book I think I’ve ever read 🥵. It's also my first time reading Jagger Cole (not the last though)!!

This book is packed full of gorgeous men who are walking red flags, a trigger warning list longer than my food shop receipt, and dirty talk that made my toes curl! Despite it being on the chunkier side (approx 608 pages) I devoured this book in a day. At its heart, this is a beautiful love story about two people shedding their masks, dealing with trauma, legacies and expectations placed on their shoulders. Two young people who have particular 'interests' in the bedroom who feel safe enough with each other to explore those interests, push boundaries and ultimately take their masks off.
This story is dark, it's spicy, it's definitely rough, but it also has tenderness and a core theme of being seen, loved and accepted for who you are.

For the Mafia romance lovers, this has to be on your TBR. Achilles isnt morally grey, he's PITCH BLACK and it surprised me how easily I would also agree to be chased through the woods if he was the one doing it!

Yelena and Achilles are both students at Knightsblood, a college designed for mafia families. Achilles serves as the current president of Para Bellum, while Yelena is a member of the Order. Driven by a need for revenge against her attacker, the former president of Para Bellum, Yelena prepares for his return to campus during a party. As she plants evidence to set him up, she catches Achilles’ attention.

I’m not even sure where to start with this book. I’ve always enjoyed Jagger Cole’s work, which made this one especially disappointing. The overuse of “BookTok” references felt excessive and distracting. I also found myself struggling to see how the storyline fully came together.

Yelena, in particular, was difficult to connect with. She came across as immature and, at times, frustrating, especially given the direction the author seemed to want for her character. The plot itself was confusing, with moments that lacked clarity, as if the focus was more on setting up future books in the series than telling a complete story here.

Overall, I did find elements to enjoy, but the execution fell short. Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. However, I will continue with the series, because I really do enjoy this author's work.

The Devil We Crave by Jagger Cole is dark, intense, and completely addictive from the start. The elite mafia college setting combined with secret societies and morally gray characters creates an atmosphere full of tension, obsession, and constant danger.
Achilles is the kind of antihero who fully embraces the darkness, and the dynamic between him and the heroine is filled with chemistry, power struggles, and emotional intensity. The story leans heavily into its darker themes while still keeping the romance emotionally engaging underneath all the chaos and obsession.
The dark academia aesthetic, family legacies, and secret society politics made the world feel immersive, and the pacing kept the story moving the entire time. Fans of possessive antiheroes, morally gray romance, and darker college settings will likely have a hard time putting this one down.

A great start for a new series!

Gosh, I’m seated once again for this series! I’m completely obsessed with the intense chase between them. It’s so hot, so deranged, yet unbelievably alluring at the same time. The tension, the chaos just drags you deeper into this dangerous world filled with power plays, messy emotions, loyalty, and obsession. They are absolutely insane for each other. I devoured this book so fast because I couldn’t put it down.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNING LIST BEFORE DIVING INTO THIS BOOK.

This book was absolute chaos in the best possible way — dark, obsessive, messy, emotional, and completely addictive. Even though it’s the start of a new spin-off series, it works perfectly as a standalone. I jumped in without reading the previous books and never once felt lost, but now? I desperately need to go back and binge everything because this world has me in a chokehold.

At the center of the story are Yelena and Achilles, and honestly… these two consumed me. Yelena is a 19-year-old girl obsessed with dark romance fantasies, but beneath that fascination is someone suffocating under expectations, loneliness, and the pressure of constantly performing a version of herself for everyone else. Achilles, on the other hand, is the definition of a walking red flag — the morally grey mafia heir hiding behind the polished image of the perfect golden boy while carrying something far darker underneath.

And when I say this man was unhinged, I mean UNHINGED.

Achilles made absolutely zero apologies for the lengths he would go to in order to make Yelena his. The obsession, the possessiveness, the stalking, the intensity of it all? Completely insane. Completely toxic. Completely addictive to read. He is the kind of character that would have my suffragette ancestors rolling in their graves, yet somehow I still ate up every single page like my life depended on it.

But what made this romance hit harder than just shock value and spice was the emotional core underneath all the darkness.

Because beneath the mafia politics, the secret societies, the manipulation, and all the morally questionable behavior, this is really a story about two people who have spent their entire lives wearing masks. Two people drowning under legacy, expectations, public image, family pressure, and their own inner darkness. And somehow, against all odds, they find the one person who makes them feel safe enough to finally take those masks off.

That’s what got me.

Not just the obsession. Not just the spice. The vulnerability hidden underneath it all.

Yelena and Achilles are so different on the surface, but deep down they mirror each other in ways that made their connection feel inevitable. Once the emotional walls started cracking and their relationship settled into its rhythm, the story became so much stronger. The second half absolutely carried the book for me because that’s where I finally felt fully invested in them emotionally instead of just being shocked by them.

And yes — this book is SPICY. Like, ridiculously spicy. The chemistry between them is immediate and explosive, and if you love dark romances packed with obsession, possessiveness, morally grey men, secret societies, and “touch her and die” energy, this delivers in every possible way. Some of the dirty talk and repetitive phrasing didn’t always work for me personally, and there were moments in the first half where Yelena felt immature or Achilles crossed lines in ways that made it harder to connect with them emotionally at first. But somehow, even with those flaws, I could not stop reading.

This book is over 600 pages long and I devoured it in three nights.

THREE.

Because once it gets its claws into you, it does not let go.

And can we PLEASE talk about the side characters? The friend and family dynamics were chef’s kiss perfection. Every interaction added so much life to the story, and I’m already sitting here making unhinged theories about future couples because some of these pairings have me absolutely feral already. Seeing familiar faces again was everything — Ares and Neve especially had me screaming, and the little moments with Nero and Milena were so good. And Laz? Yeah… I already know that man is going to ruin my life in a future book.

Cole somehow always manages to balance suspense, emotional intensity, humor, and spice in a way that keeps you completely locked in. Even when the story didn’t fully blow me away in every aspect, it still delivered exactly what I wanted from a dark mafia romance: obsession, tension, emotional vulnerability, and characters so flawed they feel dangerous to love.

If you’re a mafia romance lover, this absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR. And for the Masktok girlies who live for morally grey book boyfriends, toxic devotion, and romances that blur the line between love and obsession? Yelena and Achilles might just become your next addiction.

ARC Review

What a book. My God, what a book.

I honestly don’t even have enough words to thank, first of all, author Jagger Cole for this incredible book, but also Valentine PR for once again giving me the opportunity to completely lose myself in a story that absolutely consumed me. Thank you, truly, for this new obsession, or, in Achilles’ words… “fascination.” Because I definitely have one now, and it’s not letting go anytime soon.

I don’t even know where to begin with this review, but I think I need to start by not only thanking the author for this ARC and for this unforgettable story, but also by apologizing for my own huge prejudice going into it. Yes, I genuinely believed that a man could never captivate me with his writing (especially in dark romance) the way female authors do. And wow… I could not have been more wrong.

Not only does Jagger completely pull me under with his writing, but he honestly surpasses many female authors when it comes to emotional depth and the way he drags readers straight into the heart of the story, leaving us thinking about it long after we’ve finished reading. So yes, prejudice officially gone… and another obsession unlocked. "Fascination"!!!

And then there’s Achilles. Seriously, the name Achilles NEVER misses. I had already fallen hard for Achilles Duval (Lola King) and Achilles Ferrante (L. J. Shen), so part of me thought there was no way Achilles Drakos could live up to them… but not only did he get there, he earned his place right beside them.

I loved this completely unhinged man. A character who is chaotic and dangerous, yet self-aware enough to fully understand who he is, accept every dark piece of himself, and wear the “golden boy” mask only for the people who never truly want to know the real him, only the idealized version they created in their heads. He is exactly who he is, unapologetically. An absolute "thunder" of a man.

And then there’s the story itself, which is honestly perfection. You know those books that feel like the perfect blend of everything you’ve loved before? This gave me echoes of Lola King, Rina Kent, even L. J. Shen, with that brutal, pitch-black mafia darkness, but it also carried a touch of Sara Cate in the best possible way... (in you know what i mean!!)

Without going too deep into the plot, because I genuinely just need everyone to READ THIS BOOK and meet my newest fascination, Yelena, our FMC, goes through a traumatic experience, an attempted "rape", and is left struggling with huge internal conflicts about the way she views her own darker desires… and what desires they are. But what fascinated me most wasn’t just the romance. It was the way the author handled consent with such clarity, nuance, and emotional intelligence.

He shows the difference between violation and consensual non-consent in such a powerful way. The difference between abuse and kink, the blurred but very real line between harm and desire, primal play and genuine violation. And honestly? That is where this author’s true mastery shines. The way he tackles those themes with care, depth, and emotional precision is what makes this book unforgettable.

I’m not saying anything else. Just read it. This may have been my first Jagger Cole book, but now I want every single one of them immediately. Give me Wren’s book ASAP, please. And now I desperately need to read the previous books too, because both Yelena’s parents and Achilles’ parents are exactly my weakness when it comes to dark romance with this level of intensity.

Once again—THANK YOU. Truly, thank you so much!

✨ ARC DNF REVIEW ✨
📖 The Devil We Crave by Jagger Cole
🖤 Dark Descendants #1

Thank you to Jagger Cole and Valentine PR for the ARC opportunity.

Unfortunately, I ended up DNFing this around 38% (about 223 pages in), and this one is honestly hard for me to review because I don’t really have anything negative to say about the writing itself. I previously listened to Dance of Ruin and really enjoyed it I gave that one 4 stars and thought the plot and storytelling were really strong. So, I was genuinely excited to dive deeper into Jagger Cole’s world with this one.

The story itself starts off VERY strong. The mafia university setting immediately pulled me in, and the darker atmosphere definitely had me intrigued. Yelena and Achilles had chemistry right away, and I liked the way the book blended darker themes with modern culture references, social media, BookTok mentions, luxury brands, masked fantasies, etc. It made the world feel very current and immersive.

But for me personally, I think I made the mistake of jumping into this universe without enough background knowledge first. I never saw anywhere that said you absolutely needed to read previous books beforehand, but I also didn’t realize just how interconnected this world was going to be. Usually with next-generation stories, you can still follow along pretty easily even if you haven’t read all the parents’ books first. Here, though, I personally felt like I was missing a lot of context.

There are SO many characters, family dynamics, relationships, references to previous books, and future setups being introduced that I started feeling overwhelmed trying to keep track of everything. The family tree alone should’ve been my warning sign 😅 because once I saw two full pages of interconnected characters and families, I realized this world runs deep.

I could tell the author is building something huge for future books, and longtime readers will probably love all the connections and setups. But as someone newer to the universe, I personally struggled to fully connect because I felt like I was constantly trying to piece everything together while also following the main story.

By the time I hit 38%, I realized I wasn’t fully connecting with the book, and honestly, I didn’t want to continue just to end up giving a review that didn’t feel fair to the story.

So, this is definitely more of a “wrong starting point for me” situation rather than me saying it’s a bad book because I truly don’t think it is. I actually think readers already invested in the Jagger Cole universe will probably love seeing all these connections come together.

I just personally wish I had known beforehand how interconnected this world was, because I probably would’ve started earlier in the universe first before picking this one up. 🖤

Thank you to Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for an ARC of The Devil We Crave in exchange for an honest review.

4.25 stars

This is my first time reading Jagger Cole’s books. He did not disappoint. I was amazed at not only how fast I finished this book, but how in love I was with the story. The Devil We Crave is the first book in his new series, Dark Descendants. As I mentioned, this is my first time reading anything by Jagger Cole. Therfore after doing some reasurch I figured out that this is a second-generation book following the kids and meeting other characters.

This book follows Achilles and Yelena, who are both students at Knightsblood University, the “mafia college”. Yelena has experienced a traumatic event and decided she wants to get revenge. However, she is “attacked” by a masked man who makes all her dark and twisted fantasies come to life. Achilles becomes obsessed with Yelena and decides that she will be his at any cost. They develop a relationship based on these fantasies, and with some twists, family influences, and secrets, they test their relationship. A dual POV story that takes you deep into the Knightsblood University and what it means to come from the mafia. It is also worth noting that this book is SPICY! It does not shy away from the intimate scenes.

I found the family dynamics funny, emotional, and loving. Both the Achilles and Yelena families are loving and supportive of their children. Especially when it comes to Achilles’ personality and the “Golden Mask” he wears with everyone. This family dynamic is important to the development of Yelena charecter. She must learn not to feel like a disappointment, conquer her fears, and accept her insecurities/flaws. I was very entrapped with the plot of the story. There were so many movie parts that it added to the charchters deveoplment. I also enjoyed all the characters in the book. Yelena’s friend group showed this sense of “found fmaily” and their bond was deep. I also loved that the author allowed room for growth with Achilles charchter. Achilles understands that even if you create the perfect sistuation peoplle still need a choice to accept.

This book was so close to being a 5-star read for me. One thing that I struggled with (I know this is more of a personal thing) was the family tree. I was confused about who was related to whom when it came to the families. I found myself needing to do some research on Jagger Cole’s website. Also, some of the side stories, in my opinion, did not fit into the main story. I understand the author trying to create multiple story lines to help set up for future books, but it was at times not relevant to the main story.

Overall, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! I definitely will be reading more from Jagger Cole, and I can’t wait for books 2 and 3 from the Dark Descendants series.

A new generation by MeemsAngel82

It's HERE!!! I have been waiting like the impatient reader I am for Jagger's latest creation-the next generation of his world. Beloved couples from previous books have had children and now is the time to see what they've got. You do not have to read his previous books in order to enjoy this one but I have and let me tell you-worth the wait!!! I love the writing style, it keeps me hooked and yes these books are long and with good reason. It's engaging and entertaining and time flies by. The characters are detailed and connect not only with their lead, but also their friends and family. It's a rich world and well done world building and in this case involves one of my very favorite series of his. The H of this book is rightfully first considering who his father is. The h is the daughter of couple that do not mess around.

Son of Ares, dad being the oldest of his horde of siblings, he does his daddy proud. He's the golden boy on the outside and dark and dangerous on the inside. His needs are up there and only one girl seems to fit the bill. He knows what she needs before she says it and she fulfils the craving he has for the darker games he has in mind. She didn't have a chance, she got caught up into sensual acts and found herself loving his treatment of her. But she had her own demons and he would slay anyone for her.

He is from a solid family. His dad and his mom and his aunts and uncles have already proven themselves and have had these amazing love stories. Him having his turn in this new generation and being first had this girl gobbling up this book like candy. I couldn't wait and let me tell you as a long time reader and lover of Jagger Cole books, this was a dream come true. I didn't even think I'd get this lucky but never doubt our author. When I say he delivers, he isn't playing around! And Achilles and Yelena are a great start to this series. She has parents that are no strangers to mafia life. She had some nightmares and he came along and gave her frustration and also a person who will literally do anything for his girl. She was strong but when her dad wants to make sure he is worthy, let me tell you. He is. They have great chemistry and the scenes were steamy. I also was laughing out loud at their parents and interactions with loved ones. When I started seeing children of various previous couples interacting I was so happy! Parents have not lost their edge one little bit and their kids are going to be getting into it! We have some set ups already and I am seriously hoping his cousin is going to get his girl. I am very pleased with this new generation and I have no doubt they will not only give their parents gray hairs, but also do them proud. Welcome to the Jaggerverse. I was blessed to have received an ARC copy for free and volunteered to leave my own review. I can't wait for more!

Thank you to Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for providing me with an ARC of The Devil We Crave (Dark Descendants, #1) in exchange for an honest review. This review contains NO spoilers.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

The Devil We Crave has to be one of my top reads of 2026 thus far! In this exciting new installment of the second generation by Jagger Cole, it did not disappoint! The mmc Achilles is the son of Ares/Neve, and the fmc Yelena is the daughter of Nero/Milena. See the tidbits of a few of my favorite characters from the Jagger Cole universe (#DaddyDeLuca).

Set in Knightblood, a prestigious college for students of affluent crime families, I was delighted to see the children of all of my favorite couples in this second generation! Achilles Drakos is the president of Para Bellum, one of the elite college societies in Knightblood. He keeps the mask on as the golden boy of the campus, and has no shortage of girls vying for his attention, yet only one girl makes him stop completely in his tracks. After spending a sizzling HOT night with Yelena De Luca, he immediately becomes obsessed with her, and they engage in a push/pull type of relationship. Yelena can't deny the chemistry between the two of them, yet knows that a bad boy can't be good for her...right? On top of that, there is some tension between the two families in a business deal, so they must navigate their relationship.

I also want to add that despite being a deliciously spicy book, you do see a great element of character development from both main characters. Yelena must learn to conquer her fears, and Achilles must learn to truly allow Yelena to flourish in their relationship. He starts out as quite controlling (and stalkerish), yet ultimately realizes that he is willing to do ANYTHING for his girl, even if it hurts him. I have to say, one of my favorite scenes in this whole book is between Achilles and Nero. Both hot-headed, Achilles is out to prove that he is worthy of Nero's little princess.

The found family aspect is also delightful. Both mcs have a great group of friends (from families in previous Jagger Cole series), and I cannot wait to read the rest of their stories. (I'm looking out for Jude, Kirill, and Selene...)

Tropes:
- good girl x bad boy
- enemies-to-lovers
- 2nd generation
- dark romance
- college for children of crime families (ex. mafia x bratva)
- CNC
- morally BLACK mmc
- look at her and DIE

I CANNOT wait to get my hands on the rest of the series when it comes out! I have no doubt it will be one of my favorites, and I cannot wait to see which couple the author writes about next! Thank you again to Valentine PR for providing an ARC. And happy reading to all the future readers of this FANTASTIC book!

The Devil We Crave

I seriously don’t know what Jagger Cole puts into his books, but this man writes obsession, tension, and chemistry like no one else.

The Devil We Crave was an absolute 5-star read ⭐️ and I’m officially obsessed with Achilles and Yelena.

The story follows Yelena, a mafia princess, and Achilles, the heir to a powerful mafia family who becomes completely obsessed with her. Everything begins because of business conflicts between their families and a man from Yelena’s past who is far more dangerous than he seems. Achilles initially believes Yelena is still hung up on this guy, but the truth is much darker.

One of my favorite things was how their relationship started. Yelena sneaks into a party at Achilles’ house to plant incriminating evidence against the man who hurt her in the past. But Achilles catches her in the act, and from that moment on, chaos completely unfolds.

Yelena is obsessed with masked men and constantly consumes dark romance and BookTok content. Achilles, being the obsessive man that he is, investigates everything about her, discovers all of her fantasies and kinks… and starts stalking her while wearing a mask exactly like the men she fantasizes about.

The tension between them was INSANE. The chase, the obsession, the constant provocation and desire were written so well. Even though everyone warns Achilles to stay away from Yelena because her father could literally kill him, he simply doesn’t care.

But what I loved most was that underneath all the obsession and darkness, there’s actually a genuinely beautiful relationship developing between them. Little by little, they truly fall for each other, and Yelena finally opens up about what really happened with the man from her past. He abused and manipulated her, making her feel ashamed and guilty for years.

The moment Achilles learns the truth, he completely snaps into protective mode. And I absolutely loved the fact that Yelena’s father immediately chose his daughter over business deals once he found out the truth.

And obviously the ending was PERFECT. The man who hurt Yelena kidnaps her, but Achilles because he’s obsessive and ridiculously protective had secretly placed a tracker inside the necklace she always wore. He finds her, rescues her, and kills the man. Honestly, Yelena’s father basically approved of their relationship immediately after that.

They end up together, happy, obsessed with each other, and fully embracing all their shared fantasies.

At this point, Jagger Cole has officially become one of my favorite discoveries of the year. I’m ready to read absolutely everything this man writes.

Knightsblood University is the perfect setting for chaos, obsession, and forbidden romance, and this book delivered all of that and more. Following Achilles Drakos and Yelena De Luca, the story dives into the lives of two people carrying their own emotional scars while navigating the dangerous expectations that come with being born into powerful mafia families. What starts as undeniable attraction quickly spirals into something darker, more consuming, and impossible for either of them to ignore.

Yelena was such a compelling character because beneath her strength and determination, she is still battling fear, insecurity, and the aftermath of her past trauma. Her emotional journey felt authentic, and I loved watching her slowly regain confidence in herself instead of allowing others to define her worth. Achilles completely surprised me as a character too. At first, he comes across as possessive, reckless, and overly controlling, but as the story progresses, you see how deeply he cares for Yelena and how much he is willing to change for her. Their chemistry is intense from the very beginning, and the romance is incredibly spicy, but it never overshadows the emotional layers of the story.

The relationships outside of the romance were honestly one of my favorite parts. The friendships felt genuine, the family moments added so much warmth, and there was a strong sense of loyalty throughout the entire book. I especially loved seeing the balance between the harsh mafia world and the softer moments shared between family members and friends. It made the characters feel more human and added depth to the story beyond the romance.

As someone who adored the previous generation’s stories, seeing the second generation step into the spotlight was such an exciting experience. Getting glimpses of beloved characters as parents while watching their children create their own stories made this book even more enjoyable for me. It felt nostalgic while still bringing something fresh and new to the series. I’m already invested in so many side characters and cannot wait to see whose story comes next.

This book was dramatic, emotional, addictive, and full of tension in the best way possible. Between the twists, the mafia politics, the emotional growth, and the explosive relationship between Achilles and Yelena, I was completely hooked the entire time.

whew did someone turn up the heat in here?!
the devil we crave was deliciously dark with the dynamic between achilles and yelena!

yelena, so strong even with what happened to her - how she was a constant light for her friends, put on a brave face for her parents and knew what she wanted and went for it! I love how she was always reading spicy books (me reading the whole time, wait is this play about us? haha) when she started referencing masktok and booktok i was like wait hold up, this is too fun! she was so fierce and her relationship with her cousins and girl gang was so sweet!

with yelena, there was way more than meets the eye- her being curious on certain things and wanted to explore and know more and what better way to try something and figure out whether she liked or disliked it and not be judged for it, then trying it with someone who would never judge her!!!!

incoming -
achilles drakos!!!!
wow, first of all I need a reread of ares and neve’s book bc their little cameos were so cute and funny! but achilles was such a dark knight, a golden boy hidden behind a mask of mystery and secrets. I loved how obsessed he was for yelena and helped her work through her trauma and curiosities! never once did he judge her but help her embrace her inner darkness. the chase scene?!

THE CLIFF SCENE?! do not get me started on those.

“achilles didn’t put this darkness in me. It’s always been there.”

I also couldn’t stop laughing at his conversations with laz and nero, we love protective men!!!

my heart when it came full circle where he first laid his eyes on her and I cried 😭 it was such an emotional moment and crazy how from that day on he couldn’t not know her.

I also enjoyed this found family and the vibes I got from this universe- it definitely gives darker gossip girl vibes for sure. I loved the cameos from previous characters and loved meeting new ones, I can already tell this is going to be some of my favorite found families!

I will say the spice is amazing and the connection you can tell is there, I got MEGA butterflies in some scenes but this wasn’t quite a 5 star for me because I felt like there was a little more spicy back to back than I’d like (I know who says that right) but honestly I wish there were couple more cuter scenes of them existing together vs spicy time! 😅

overall enjoyed it completely! I cannot wait to continue the universe for sure :)

🌟 The King of Dark Romance Strikes Again!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 / 5

Jagger Cole has officially done it again! As the undisputed King of Dark Romance, he has delivered what might just be his absolute best book yet. This is a phenomenal, gripping start to a new second-generation series, and to say I am utterly obsessed is an understatement. (And yes, I am completely unashamed to admit how many times I had to pause and consult the family tree to keep track of everyone! 🤣🤣)

🖤 The Next Generation & Nostalgic Camaraderie
The world-building here is complex and entirely consuming. I absolutely loved the dynamic between the next generation—the rivalry, the brotherhood, and the fierce loyalty between the boys are unmatched. But what truly stole my heart was seeing our favorite original "Black Flag" MMCs as fathers. The banter between them is pure gold, and seeing that they are still as wildly obsessed with their women as ever gave me all the feels.

👑 Achilles & Yelena: Explosive Chemistry
Now, let's talk about Achilles. Wow. He is the ultimate definition of a golden boy with a pitch-black flag. He is unapologetic, possessive, insanely obsessed with his woman, and the mouth on this man? Utterly lethal. 🥵🥵🥵 His interactions with Nero were a definite highlight of the book.
Yelena is a fantastic heroine that you can’t help but root for. She is lovable but carries deep trauma and dark desires that only Achilles can truly fulfill. Their chemistry is magnetic, and the spice is cranked up to a staggering 1000/10! Jagger Cole never disappoints in the heat department.

👯‍♀️ Friendship & Future Breadcrumbs
Beyond the romance, the female friendships in this book are top-tier. The girl group dynamic added so much depth to the story. Also, a quick shoutout to the meeting with Ya-Ya—it had me laughing out loud and reminiscing about Nieve’s iconic interaction (if you know, you know! 🤣🤣).

⚠️ Final Thoughts
This book is complex, gripping, and a certified page-turner that you won't be able to put down until the very last sentence. Plus, the breadcrumbs dropped for future couples are absolutely delicious.

Note: Please be sure to check the trigger warnings, as this book touches on sensitive subjects.

Huge thank you to Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for the opportunity to read this ARC.

You know those authors you adore, your go-to authors, the ones that every freaking book is perfect? The King Of Dark, Jagger Cole, you are so that for me!! The Devil We Crave is the first book in the brand new Dark Descendants series and it was AMAZING!! Knightsblood University. Home to the underworlds’ kids. The perfect background for obsession, passion and every desire. Give me a DARK college romance with my favorite next gen characters, so much angst and heat and the perfect world Jagger weaves through any day!

Achilles, son of Ares and Neve. He’s the president of Para Bellum club, (the future rulers and heirs to criminal empires) He wears the golden boy mask daily, keeping up the reputation the world thinks he should. But underneath is a man with a darkness down deep. And a man that is totally and completely obsessed with Yelena. She’s the daughter of one of my most favorite couples, Nero and Milena. She is in The Order club. (This club attracts individuals who value precision over spectacle) She's the good girl, so smart and kind. But she has been through some deep trauma. And down deep has such dark desires just waiting to come out. I just loved so much about these two. Seeming so opposite, but the connection was undeniable. They saw past each other’s masks and could just be. This man was absolutely obsessed and possessive. The heat between these two, there aren't enough words to describe how HOT these two are. But it was more than that. It was so raw and vulnerable, tackling real life, relationships and the trauma we try to keep down deep due to shame. I LOVED LOVED their families. Their parents provided so much love, wisdom and support.

And this whole world Jagger is building. I loved getting to know everyone and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book! I have my couples all picked out, lolll

I will say it again, I love this world! This book was so deliciously dark, so possessive, and the ending, when the truth comes out between these two. You'll know when you read it, it will hit you in every feel possible! TEARS! You need to read this book and series!

5 ⭐️ | 4.2 🌶️

I don’t know what to say other than what a perfect pairing. What an exquisite book!!!!
The world-building, the relationship dynamics, the insight to future couples.

I’ve skipped some books throughout Jagger’s universe and will definitely get to them but AGHH I adored meeting Arianna (Tempest and Dante’s daughter!!!!) and the mention of Yuri Volkov SWOONNNN.

Contains: primal play, virgin fmc, stalking, somno, cnc, knife play, grinding, talks of consent, use of safe word.

*** spoilers ahead ***

I love how sexually liberated Kirill is. He’s a little shit, but he’s so aghhh “Your boyfriend likes to put his hands on people. He likes to hit things that don’t belong to him” defending Jude by fucking up Yelena’s relationship who’s Jude’s cousin—hilarious but also hurtful!!

I don’t know if I’ve skipped too much of Jagger’s writing and need to submerge myself into his world asap but the last book I read without reading the prior ones in the series was Dance of Monsters and there were sweet moments but nothing has felt as warm and domestic (and slightly lovey-dovey) as this one!!! There weren’t just sprinkles of Achilles being soft and gentle, they kept piling on which I LOVED.

I did feel like the characters were TOO AWARE—all the booktok talk and inclusion of those interests. Laz saying “touch her and die is putting it mildly” and the girls in general AND the boys acknowledging it too!

The “we’re an us” scene UGHHH Achilles was so perfect!!! And I just loved how Yelena became more confident as their chemistry developed and the kinky rendezvous progressed.

Here are some guesses:
Damiano + Bella
Wren + Laz
Lochlan + Galina (although he had an interest in the villainess girl)
Jude + Kirill + Selene (but aghhh imagine a mfm by Jagger!?!?)
Arianna + Adrik
Ronan + Akira (possibly)

🖤“It’s times like this that I do worry about having the same kind of blood in me that Lochlan worries about. Because when I look at her, standing there alone in the dark, lit only by the ghostly glow of a fading streetlight, I don't just see her as beautiful. Or sexy. Or alluring. Or even interesting. I see her as prey. Sweet, delicious, blood-igniting, cock-swelling prey. My prey, to be exact.”

🖤“The obsessive interest turns me on. Removing my ability to consent to that interest makes me furious and scared.”

OH-EM-GEE‼️ JAGGER COLE HAS DONE IT YET AGAIN ‼️. Every time I think this is my favorite book by him BAM he comes back and says Nope I got something new for you. I don’t know what he puts in his books but I eat them up every time. I finished this 600 page book in a day ‼️

The Devil We Crave is book 1 in the new of the second generation series, Dark Descendants. This book introduces us to Knightblood University, college for students of all the different crime families that were part of Jaggers previous series of the past. The university is also divided into 4 secret societies: Para Bellum, The Order, Ouroboros society, and The Reckless.

This gives us Achilles Drakos as the MMC. Achilles is the son of Neve Kildare and Ares Drakos, whom we met in Deviant Hearts. Achilles is the head of Para Bellum, and the kind of man that your mom warns you about. I mean he was dark, Achilles and OTT obsessive and possessive and he i found should come myself completely intertwined in this story.

Yelena is our FMC and the daughter of Nero De Luca and Milena Kalishnik from Dance of Madness. She has been dealing with trauma that no one knows about and gets her cousin to help. But instead of revenge it puts her into the path of a man in a scream mask, who as it turns out is none other than Achilles.
She is strong and soft at the same time and I absolutely love how her character developed as time went.

Their chemistry between these two was explosive and every moment seemed to have so much tension you could cut it with a knife. These two just had this connection and it was special to watch it unfold.

The parents appearance was amazing they add some great one liners in humor and it especially helped break up the really dark moments.

Jagger had my head on a swivel with all the side characters, and even as someone who’s read everything let me tell you the family trees are needed.

Jagger Cole absolutely nailed it with this story and has left his breadcrumbs of what’s to come and I can’t wait to see what this world brings. If I could give this book more than 5 i would…Highly recommend

Did I binge this book in a day? Absolutely yes I did because the second generation are here and Jagger absolutely started the series off with a bang👏🏼.

Now this series will take place in a Knightsblood university and the university is split into 4 societies that you pledge to. If you have read Jaggers books you will know by now our MMC Achilles is the son of Neve Kildare and Ares Drakos (Deviant Hearts), he the head of the Para Bellum society and also know as a reputation as the “Golden boy”, but don’t be fooled as this is not the face he wears beneath the mask, and I mean that literally because Achilles here is quite found of a scream mask and leisurely runs in the woods with a certain woman👀

Our FMC Yelena is the daughter of Nero De Luca and Milena Kalishnik (Dance of Madness). When we met Yelena she is quiet and keeps to her circle. We find out that she is dealing with trauma that only occurred quite recently and she wants revenge for what was done. She enlists her cousin to help her obtain an object that would help her frame this individual and the only chance she would get to do this would be at a Para Bellum party as the person she is out to get is the ex-president Kyle. Of course things didnt quite go to plan and she was caught by a man in a scream mask, which was none other than Achilles Drakos.

Now Yelena has caught the attention of Achilles and there is no uncapturing this. She was also quite shocked to find out that golden boy had quite similar tastes to Yelena if you catch my drift👀

Achilles was the chaos while Yelena was the calm and I loved seeing the progression of these two throughout the book.

While I loved that this is a second generation book, I adored how Jagger had quite a few parent interactions in the book as without the parents none of this wouldn’t have come to pass. I also couldn’t wait to see Nero De Luca as a father as he was quite psychotic in his own book and protective when it came to Milena but there is not a line he wouldn’t cross when it comes to his family.

Jagger has most certainly left obvious hints of who we can expect in the near future and I am oh so excited for this.

Thank you to Valentine PR who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts.

"The Devil We Crave"
(Dark Descendants # 1)

by Jagger Cole

This story follows Achilles and Yelena.

They both attend Knightsblood University, an elite college where all the biggest mafia families send their sons and daughters to be trained to, one day, inherit their empires.

Achilles Drakos is tall, gorgeous, the definition of perfect in every aspect.
Yelena de Luca is a beautiful and shy girl who loves her dark and steamy books.

One day Lena goes to a party at the frat house where is Achilles the leader and they find themselves in a situation she didn't anticipate: a masked man catches her with a secret.
She starts to realize her darkest taboo fantasies are possible outside her favorite books and Achilles finds the right person to be wrong with.
What started as dark fantasies evolves to dark love between two young heirs to the mafia.

This was my first Jagger Cole book ; it is (very) dark and full of spicy scenes, some of them need attention to trigger warnings.

Releasing May 26.

Thank you to the author and Valentine PR for this ARC.

Achilles is the golden boy of Knightsblood and a poster child for "magnanimous future king."

Consuming me with his darkness.
🔥
Achilles's dark eyes glint like liquid midnight as he leans closer, his forehead touching mine and his gaze slicing into my soul.
🔥
Her eyes glint, and I decide right then and there that they're the color of a serene forest.
🔥
"Like it or not, you're mine, little prey."

"I'm your hunter," I growl. "In every scenario."
🔥
The full darkness of his devil.
And God help me, I want him to swallow me whole.

There is a darkness to Achilles. His golden boy mask has slipped in my presence that I've seen the monster lurking beneath it.

Yelena isn't a "fascination". She's not my current obsession.
She's my forever obsession. My most fascinating fascination, one that I'll never tire of.

Insane! It is just absolutely insane how good this book is! It’s also insane just how deliriously in love with it I am. The primal play and the stalking, top freaking tier! The heat, just go plop yourself in an ice bath and cross your fingers that it’s enough to get you through. The characters, in-freakin-credible! And the whole premise, from this being about the descendants of all the other series he’s written all going to the same college to the how and the why Achilles is so fixated on Yelena, pure Jagger Cole genius. A book that is one hundred percent worthy of being obsessed over, which is good because I so am, is phenomenally well written, and should most definitely be on every dark romance must read list in existence.
The Dark Descendents series might just be Jagger Cole’s best idea ever and that’s saying a lot because he’s already a dark and deviant mastermind that can write dark romance like nobody’s business. I am just so into all these kids from mafia families being at the same college and raising all kinds of hell and I love seeing what all of their parents are up to. It makes this series feel like home before you’ve even started and I’m over the top excited for every juicy minute of it.
As for this read specifically. Look Achilles Drakos is just straight up an indescribably sexy God and the way he does obsession, manipulation, and knows there is no such thing as a line he won’t cross to have Yelena, yeah give me more of that. Also, when all the truths come out and you finally know why Achilles fixated on Yelena, you’re just a very large puddle at his ultra sexy feet because he’s that guy and just aww. With Yelena you get a broken inside girl that tugs your heart strings, you absolutely have to admire her quiet strength, and I kind of love that Achilles is the reason she feels strong enough to stand up for herself but it kind of spectacularly backfires on him for a minute. It’s got more heart and a deeper meaning than you’d guess, it has so many fun little connections between families, the friend groups are fantastically ride or die and it’s every ounce the touch her and I’ll slit your throat, mine and only mine kind of dark romance you know and love from Jagger Cole. In other words it’s dark perfection and I think everyone should read it.

Having grown up in the mafia world, Yelena isn’t a stranger to darkness, but when she finds out that the Knightsblood University’s golden boy has a dark side, she is surprised to see how much she likes it. Normally the campus good girl that no one pays much attention to, aside from her family name, Yekena now finds herself being prey for a masked monster, who makes her feel things she never even imagined.

Achilles may have a stellar reputation both on and off-campus, but that’s because he’s rarely let anyone see beneath his mask, until Yelena. When his obsessive personality fixates on her, he knows he will stop at nothing to possess her in every way. As far as he’s concerned, there is no such thing as taking things too far, and once she becomes his, he will not let her go.

I received an early copy of this book from Valentine PR and just like all of Jagger Cole’s books, I absolutely loved it! Having read all the parent series, it was fun to see the same characters with their children, and see how the family dynamics come together on a college campus. Achilles and Yelena may have seemed like an unlikely pairing, especially given the campus hierarchy, but somehow they worked together perfectly. Though their relationship may be perceived as dysfunctional on the outside (and maybe a little on the inside as well), Achilles always makes sure that Yelena is able to both consent to, as well as escape from, their every encounter. Given her past history, this is huge, and obviously a big part of why she trusts him so completely. Although his methods were extreme, once we find out his reasons, it all kind of makes sense. Achilles destroys the line between love and obsession, and I for one am here for it.

I loved both these characters relationships with their parents, and especially loved Nero and Achilles’ interactions. While the book contained sensitive topics, they were not glamourized in any way, instead used in a respectful manner to enhance the story. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series, as I already have a few theories of how things will play out (which I’m sure I’ll end up being wrong about).
