Nobody Has To Know, Frank Nappi's dark and daring new thriller, tells the story of Cameron Baldridge, a popular high school teacher whose relationship with one of his students leads him down an unfortunate and self-destructive path. Stalked through text-messages, Baldridge fights for his life against a terrifying extortion plot and the forces that threaten to expose him. NHTK is a sobering look into a world of secrets, lies, and shocking revelations, and will leave the reader wondering many things, including whether or not you can ever really know the person you love.
Frank Nappi has taught high school English and Creative Writing for over twenty years. His debut novel, ECHOES FROM THE INFANTRY, received national attention, including MWSA's silver medal for outstanding fiction. His follow-up novel, THE LEGEND OF MICKEY TUSSLER, garnered rave reviews as well, including a movie adaptation of the touching story "A Mile in His Shoes" starring Dean Cain and Luke Schroder. Nappi continues to produce quality work, including SOPHOMORE CAMPAIGN, the intriguing sequel to the much heralded original story and the thriller, NOBODY HAS TO KNOW, which received an endorsement from #1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille. The third installment of Nappi's Mickey Tussler series, WELCOME TO THE SHOW, was released in April 2016. Nappi's first memoir I BECAME AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OUTLAW, was released in June of 2019. Nappi makes his home on Long Island where he has lived his entire life.
Well, this is a new one for me. I had planned until the last page to give this a five star rating, but something happened on the last page that knocked the book down to a four star rating. Without giving out any spoilers, let's get the negative out of the way right now. Yes, there is a lot of profanity in the book that I could have done without. It is definitely "hard core" profanity, but this did not affect the rating of the book. There are sexual encounters in the book, but this did not mark the novel down either. When it comes to mysteries and/or thrillers, I don't expect a happy ending, but I expect all criminals to pay for their deeds. I was left feeling very much like darkness won in the end. Honestly, if only the book had ended with more closure, I would have felt better. Yes, I am sure it was realistic, but I just cannot condone a crime that goes unpunished.
Now to the positives. This book struck a chord from the beginning. I'm a teacher, so since much of the action takes place in a high school, I was quite intrigued. Writing about a love story between a teacher and a student--an instant story that kept my attention. Add in spine-tingling suspense and a web of lies that has no end. This book shows exactly how once you begin deception, the person has to lie again and again to cover his/her tracks. I appreciated this greatly.
The writing style is fantastic! I read the book in one evening, and I almost couldn't put it down. The characters were amazing, and the plot twists kept me wondering what would happen next. Indeed, this book is intricate in design, and I only wish I could recommend it more highly. And it only would have taken one more paragraph to bring a conclusion to it, but I'll get off my soapbox.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
This was such a good read! Even better than I expected, very underrated too so you should give it a read if you’re looking for something new!
It had such interesting characters, Nappi did a really good job creating equally likeable and unlikeable characters. The MMC is kind of a piece of shit while at the same time you can’t help but root for him a little too because you’re reading from his perspective and seeing his thoughts and feelings. But I still very much enjoyed the ending.
This book had twist after twist after twist!! They just kept on coming. It had a pretty solid setup and after around 60 pages it really started to pick up and after that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time just waiting for what’s going to happen next. I was pretty suspicious of some characters and could vaguely figure out one of the twists. But the last ones really shocked me, and I’m usually pretty good at figuring out twists by now!
I really like the way Nappi writes, being able to explain thoughts and feelings in such a good way while writing in 3rd person is super impressive. This was a fun quick read that you should definitely check out! It’s on kindle unlimited too, I can’t wait for his next book 🤩
I fear my rating on this book might be harsh, I did enjoy some elements to this story, I do enjoy the heart racing pace of not knowing where this story is going to go, the unhinged characters and the twist (despite it being slightly predictable) but I just cannot do the teacher/student thing 🤢 It’s not not a good niche for me it feels so wrong reading it and I cannot enjoy a story with that element to it as it makes me feel ill.
Having read Frank Nappi's two original novels - ECHOES FROM THE INFANTRY (brilliant) and THE LEGEND OF MICKEY TUSSLER (involving) - this reader had very high expectations for NOBODY HAS TO KNOW. That Nappi is a superb author now goes without saying. He is a superb wordsmith, a magician in developing three-dimensional characters, and he has the knack for momentary disruption of a storyline in order to clarify a new character's or situation's significance without breaking speed. This latest novel continues all of those fine traits. The problem for this reader is this story is about people who are simply not likeable, and not really caring what happens to people you don't care about in the first place hampers the appreciation for what otherwise is a brilliantly produced novel.
Cameron Baldridge doesn't do relationships well, starting with first loves (an Ecuadorian girl who is his dream but who drowns on the night she is to move back to Ecuador, to high school loves that ended badly), to a live-in girlfriend with whom he is frequently at odds, job wise and philosophically. At age twenty-five he is a high school English teacher (his girlfriend is a successful entrepreneur in business) - he is handsome, beloved by his students, but has a wandering eye. That cardinal rule of student teacher relationships stepping over the line to the physical is the key here: the beautiful but disturbed Nikki seeks his help, Cam falls for her, and even knowing that the affair is against the law he foolishly proceeds to a complete physical relationship in a motel where after their love feast Nikki dies from a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol (yes, Cam even broke the law of giving alcohol to a minor!). From there Cam must cover his tracks, lie to his girlfriend, become involved in internet email threats from a student who knows about Cam's blatant indiscretion and in turn seduces Cam to repeat his unlawful line crossing and that goes on and one until several others become involved in murder, extortion and blackmail - AND it all ends badly.
Perhaps Nappi's reason for writing this novel is to call our attention to the dangerous misuse of the social media, or focus our attention on the degree of sexual freedom among high school kids, or just demonstrate how far libido can overshadow judgment to the point of destroying futures for the ecstasy of a moment, or simply ask us to look at the quality of relationships today. If that is the case, he succeeds. It is just difficult to care about anyone of the characters in the well-constructed novel.
Having read and loved Frank Nappi’s other books (Echoes from the Infantry & the Mickey Tussler series), I was surprised to learn that he was writing a psychological thriller – very different genre from these previous titles. However, since I find his storytelling to be so compelling I immediately downloaded NOBODY HAS TO KNOW and immediately knew (pun intended) that Nappi can write anything. Nappi’s latest draws you in from the first few pages – and leaves you second guessing and making predictions chapter after chapter, right up until the insane (did I say insane?) ending.
Nappi did not sacrifice any of his artistic prose with this tale – something I often find a deterrent in other books of this genre. And he continues his “tradition” of developing complex characters that are layered. I read in a recent blog of Nappi’s on his website, that people questioned whether readers would be able to connect to Cameron Baldridge (the book’s main character) – considering some of the situations he becomes embroiled in. What Nappi does so artfully here – and is further proof of his talent – is to make a character who operates outside the moral spectrum be somewhat likeable. Dare I say I felt sorry for him as his life unraveled? This “connection” to the character propels you forward through the book – and mind you I read it in one sitting. Couldn’t bear to wait it out.
The subject of this book is certainly taboo – and just adds to the intensity you feel as you navigate the story. What lends a further controversy and curiosity to the story is that Nappi’s Baldridge is a high school English teacher – the author is himself a high school English teacher. This firsthand knowledge of “teacherly” life and the functioning of a high school English classroom give Nappi’s story credibility. On a side note, I can’t help but wonder what Nappi’s teaching colleagues, students, etc. think of this book’s plot!
Download NOBODY HAS TO KNOW today – Nappi has certainly proven that he can tackle this genre masterfully. I highly recommend it.
Cam is twenty-five years old, teaching at Hillcrest Highschool, and in a long-term relationship with his college sweetheart. A relationship where he can’t seem to commit himself to the final step.
He should have listened to his mentor’s words – “Remember, you can be friendly with these kids, but you are not their friend….. Especially the girls. That’s just trouble waiting to happen.”
Well, trouble finds Cam or does he find it? A beautiful, vulnerable young girl tests the boundaries between student and teacher, and Cam fails miserably.
One night in a seedy little motel room sends him straight to hell.
If Cam had listened to his mentor’s warnings, if he’d stayed true to his college love, if he’d just quit justifying the act to himself, he wouldn’t be looking out of the deep, dark abyss he’s now in.
There is one name for men like Cam – Loser.
He lies to the girl, he lies to his lover, he lies to everyone, including himself. And his lies take him deeper and deeper into a frightening, out-of-control madness.
Frank Nappi knows how to write a thrilling suspense story. The subject is delicate, and there are some gritty scenes, which I feel were necessary to evoke the called for responses.
My responses were disgust, outrage, anxiety, sadness, and exhilaration!
Congratulations go to Frank for leaving me exhausted and triumphant.
You don’t have to like the main character, Cam. I don’t expect you will. I sure didn’t. But I did squirm as his lies caught up with him.
The author leads you to believe the worse is over, but don’t relax. It is really just beginning and the suspense is relentless. My jaw ached from clenching my teeth in anguish. I was so invested in this story, I felt physical pain.
What took this from a 4 to a 5 rating was the explosive ending. I couldn’t imagine a better one!
Anyone remember the movie “The Crush” with Alicia Silverstone? Great 90s movie! When I picked up this book, it gave all the epic vibes of The Crush, but the delivery wasn’t there. The jump in timelines in the middle of a paragraph was really confusing and the dialogue was on the cringe side. The beginning hooked you because it introduced the premise straight away. After that, it just dragged. While I typically can never figure out the plot twist, I figured this one out 50% in. I finished it, because I was hoping to be proven wrong. I WAS NOT! 2.5⭐️
This was such a fun and twisted read from start to finish! Loved all of the different layers of Cam’s indiscretions. Enjoyed the “twist” at the end as well. While I suspected some of it, other aspects of it went in an entirely different direction. Great read! 10/10
DARK! DARING! This story blazes through your mind! Move over James Patterson; here comes Frank Nappi.
"Nobody Has to Know" blazes through your mind with an original kind of perversity. I can't believe how good Frank Nappi is, whether he's writing about military veterans, an autistic baseball player and his caring coach (as in previous award-winning books, see endnote below) or about illicit feelings of love and lust between a teacher and his student...as in this shocking, gripping book.
According to Amazon's book description: "'Nobody Has to Know,' Frank Nappi's dark and daring new thriller, tells the story of Cameron Baldridge, a popular high school teacher whose relationship with one of his students leads him down an unfortunate and self-destructive path. Stalked through text-messages, Baldridge fights for his life against a terrifying extortion plot and the forces that threaten to expose him. Nobody Has to Know is a sobering look into a world of secrets, lies and shocking revelations, and will leave the reader wondering many things, including whether or not you can ever really know the person you love."
Why is Baldridge attracted to the young girl in the first place, especially when he has such a good, normal life: nice job, lovely fiancée, the whole works? What problems does she share with him? What happens to interrupt their budding attraction/addiction to each other? After a tragedy, how does someone find out about his frightening predicament?
How does his fiancée react when she learns "another person's" version of the truth? And most important, does this unfortunate teacher ever get his life back?
Nappi answers those questions and more as he transports his readers through an intricate web of lies, deceit and betrayal (first by Baldridge; later, directed at him). Although it's hard for most people to sympathize with a man with such "lustful" desires--no matter how altruistic they seem to him at the time--Nappi weaves his story in such a way that Baldridge is, indeed, a very sympathetic character...a victim of circumstances beyond his control.
In fact, I generally view vice and foils with scorn, profound dismay and tragic sympathy, but my feelings for Baldridge are such that I view the actions of his extortionist (and others who may be helping) to be far more reprehensible than what he has contemplated... My heart goes out to him.
But you will have to read for yourself and form your own opinion.
Even though this is Frank Nappi's first thriller, he pulled it off to perfection! He made his characters come alive in the high drama of real life. In my opinion, Nappi always hits his mark; I've never begun a Nappi book and been able to put it down. As always, he paints his characters in such a fashion that I feel like I know them. Just as in real life, I care for some and hate others, depending on their deeds. In this book, the only one I really cared for was this teacher; even though he was not always a paragon of virtue, he was human and tried to do the right thing.
And Nappi's pacing is spot on; I couldn't turn the pages fast enough...er, perhaps with so many people using e-readers, I should say "couldn't scroll fast enough." :-)
Be forewarned: After a series of hair-raising twists and turns (that not even the most cunning reader will guess), the ending left me gasping for breath. I'm still panting as I think back on it (an unforgettable kind of book).
Endnote: I have been a huge fan of author Frank Nappi since I read his debut novel, the award-winning "Echoes from the Infantry: A Novel" in 2005. At that time I predicted he would be a huge star in the literary world. And my faith in his great potential was rewarded; since then he has gone on to write "The Legend of Mickey Tussler: A Novel" which was released as a film last September and is now a DVD. Movie title is "A Mile in His Shoes," starring Dean Cain and Luke Schroder. Next, Nappi penned "Sophomore Campaign: A Mickey Tussler Novel," the exciting sequel which is also slated for film.
Dare I say, "I told you so?" I dare! And now I say: "Frank Nappi will soon be a household name!" You know, like James Patterson, Stephen King, Dean Koontz...and the list goes on. And it couldn't happen to a nicer man; Nappi is a very popular school teacher in real life; happily married with two teen sons.
Cameron Baldridge affectionately known to his students as Mr. B., is an enthusiastic English teacher. He brings the novels of Uncle Tom's Cabin and Macbeth alive by using swords or YouTube videos. The handsome twenty-five year old brings out the best of every student, even the ones who don't want to work as well as teaching life lessons about bullying.
Dismissing the warning given by his mentor John Volpe, at the start of his teaching career, that he can be friendly just not their friend, Cam finds the attraction to one of his students surprising and unnerving. Being so nice, he's not aware of a few crushes that some have on him like Melanie, a A grade student who really just wants some attention. Anyway, why would he develop feelings for a 17 years old? He's with Hayley, his college sweetheart, who is to soon to become his wife.
Nikki, a lithe, beautiful teenager comparable to Lolita in regards to her charms (and effect on Mr. B.) has her own troubles. Almost forgotten by busy parents, she finds understanding and companionship with her English teacher. Their unspoken feelings for each other soon come to fruition. But from that moment of realizing their affections, Cam starts a journey that sees his life spiraling out of control.
Unexpected events leave Cam heartbroken, reminiscing about his first true love Maleigha and whether Hayley is the one for him, especially as she's been cold (towards him) of late. Yet as he deals with regret, sorrow and planning a wedding, the brief moment he spent with Nikki has been recorded. Soon the text messages start and his confrontation with another of his student sends his mind reeling but not before Hayley becomes embroiled in his sordid affairs.
A twist of fate, sees the blackmailer gone only to be replaced by another. How many people know about Nikki? When will it end so he can get back on track with his much loved career and making it work with Hayley, the woman he knows he truly loves?
Nappi's explosive story will have the reader on the edge of their seats. The nail-biting drama unfolds getting more complex as Cam's life falls apart. Each of the characters are well defined and as in real life, an action will prompt a memory, so lacing the story with memories from the past and present creates a realistic narration. The author's descriptions are minimal but it's the conversations and observations where the details sit bringing great depth and richness to the plot. Nappi's style of writing is seamless and unhurried. With an unexpected and revealing ending, this tale of forbidden love will remain in the readers mind long after the final page has been turned.
What an amazing and surprising story. From the moment I started reading, I kept wondering how is this going to end? Like that moment you close your eyes because you know something bad is going to pop around the corner, I found myself mentally doing this throughout the book. Expecting it to go one way, I was taken down another path. The characters are all initially likable and I could, to a point, understand the forbidden passion Cam and Nikki felt but as a teacher, he had to know when to stop. On more than one occasion I would blurt out 'idiot', or 'how stupid'. His relationship with Hayley is chaotic and desperate, both clinging to the idea of what true love is. The students he gets involved with are at varying levels of teenage distress adding more tension and an inevitability of how things evolve. A gripping story with an unrelenting pull on emotions. Without any doubt, a highly recommended read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author to review. The opinions expressed are my own and I am not required to give a positive critique.
Cameron ("Mr. B") is a popular 25-year-old high school teacher. He's been dating and living with Haley for a few years. Despite the fact that he is only a couple years older than his students, he has been able to maintain an appropriate relationship with them ... until Nikki comes along. With Nikki, he feels things he hasn't felt since his first girlfriend, Maleigha, when he was fourteen. Though he tries to resist, he can't fight it and he and Nikki begin a relationship.
Cameron thinks he can hide the consequences of his actions ... but he can't. Someone knows and starts blackmailing him ... and the blackmailer is always one step ahead of him. And during all this, he and Haley are planning their wedding and she is getting mad because he's distracted and leaving all the arrangements to her. If she only knew!!
This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. An affair between a teacher and a student is always a touchy subject. I liked this book because it wasn't focused on the relationship itself but on how Cameron tries to hide that it happened. Just when he thinks he has everything under control, he is slammed by the blackmailer with threats and it's interesting to see how he deals with it.
I liked the writing style ... it was well-paced and kept me wanting to read more. The story is told in third person so you get to read how Cameron, Haley, Nikki, etc. are feeling at the moment. It dips back in the past at times ... for example, when Cameron remembering his relationship with Maleigha. Despite the fact that I figured out the ending way before it happened, I enjoyed reading how the author got me there and was satisfied with how it ended (for the most part, it's how I would have ended it ... except for the last two paragraphs).
Though he was an excellent teacher who could relate to his students, I didn't like Cameron as a person. I found him weak and it seemed to be always all about Cameron. And because I didn't like Cameron, I was cheering every time the blackmailer pushed him again and again. Ha! I found Haley a bit annoying at times. She had a tough life growing up and tended to whine about it at times. But she was justified in her frequent freaking out on Cameron. It's a testament to the writing that I enjoyed the book despite disliking the main characters.
This is a dark look at the consequences when a teacher has a relationship with a student and I'd recommend it! As a head's up, the language and activity are mature at times.
I received the book from the Touring Host for an honest review.
Standing applause for this well written fast paced thriller! The ending had me dumbfounded, I just did not see it coming. The author's cunning writing kept me glued to the book as I read this book in one sitting. The intriguing world of teachers and pupils stepped up a notch with this thought provoking, and mind blowing thriller. You get so engrossed with the main character Cameron Baldridge life, his career, and that of his pupils that you are genuinely caught by surprise at the end. I do not want to give the plot away since it would spoil the whole surprise, but the magnitude of this man's actions and decisions made this story alive, believable and entertaining. His constant struggle with a young woman he met while still in his teenage years ultimately set him on a course of exploration and love, always looking for the right woman, and every time he thought this is the one it back-fires on him big time. The supporting roles of Hayley his fiance, John his mentor, Nikki, Samantha and Melani as some of his students made a huge impact on the story. Each had the ability to draw you in and keep you attention as the plot unfolds. With well written craftiness and interesting scenes the story draws you into his world and at times I pity Cam, and at times I wanted to shake him out of pure frustration. His obvious romantic heart and ideas trapped him in secrets and lies that he could not get away from, and at the end it cost him dearly. Nobody Has to Know a well fitting name for the book as his life unravels into a cesspool of dirty and unforgivable consequences that will take you by surprise.
Whew this one is not an easy read. I did not find myself rooting for the main character, Cameron Baldridge, a popular high school teacher. Instead I was quite angry at him for not taking the right path. I could not feel pity even. Instead I was out raged that he gave in to temptation. Now do not think that was all for me though. You see I have always had the curiosity about why people do things they know is wrong. Where in their heads does it start to feel right or justified. Frank Nappi provided me with just that in his character, Cameron.
From there Nobody Has To Know became a mystery. You see not only does Cameron fall for the pursuits of one of his students, he gives in and makes plans to continue a 'relationship' with her. But things go wrong right off and he is then in the middle of a twisted plot of revenge. You find yourself sorta feeling like Cameron is going to get what he deserves and then later on feeling the spiraling effect of fear from his life becoming so out of control. It is there that I see where I find it important to help others no matter the past life they have led. Here is where I know that people do change and Cameron finds that he wishes he had made the right decision from the beginning.
Is this an easy read? For me no but it is not a long book and reads quite quickly. So you can come through it pretty quickly. Frank Nappi twines a way through a story line that fills you with anger, revulsion and even that 'going to get even' way that so many of us feel inside.
Sex, lies, and cell phones, all things that put Cam in a tight spot. High school teacher Cameron Baldridge has his very own after school special with a student. I guess he doesn’t watch Lifetime (or the news) much because he would have known that these things never end well. He seemingly has it all, job, girlfriend, and youth but for some reason wasn’t feeling it, “his relationship had grown stale, predictable and now contentious.” So taking up with a high school student was supposed to make things better? Ugh. When will these egotistical narcissists learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them? I enjoyed the way Frank Nappi showcased the anxiety and stress of Cam’s stupidity. I say stupidity because he really should have known better or at the very least cover his tracks better. But they never catch the smart ones. He’s a hard character to like (as I found all the characters) but in a strange way works for this story. The pacing slows in the middle where I was looking for a ramp up of the tension which I thought took away from the ending’s mystery reveal. The ending seemed a bit far-fetched and reminiscent of a Law and Order episode. Nobody Has To Know asks if you can ever really know the person you love. If they act as dim as old Cam, I think not, but if you like a little whodunit give this one a try.
After reading a few of the reviews on Goodreads and then on Amazon, I decided to download NOBODY HAS TO KNOW. NOBODY HAS TO KNOW has been well-received so far, was written by an author I already really like, and Nelson DeMille endorsed it; I couldn't go wrong. Truth be told I am so glad I read it. Nappi impresses me most in his ability to tell a story. The same skill he employed for his other novels he repeats here. The story grabbed me from the opening and shocked me at its closing. No time to breathe or take a pause in between. I definitely had a love hate relationship with his main characters. I didn't want to like them - some of them are quite "out there," but Nappi finds a way to make you care. Like some of the other reviews I have read, I wonder what Nappi's colleagues thought of him writing a book about a high school when he himself is a teacher. Maybe one day he will share that information with his readers. Read NOBODY HAS TO KNOW and enjoy a fast-paced and well-developed thriller.
I’m giving Nobody Has to Know 2 stars. The author, Frank Nappi, was kind enough to reach out and send me a copy, so I truly went into this wanting to love it. Because of that, I also want to be honest in a respectful way.
The overall plot was intriguing and had a lot of potential, which kept me reading. However, the execution didn’t quite work for me. The writing style felt very corny at times, and the frequent switching between timelines and characters within the same paragraph made it difficult to stay fully immersed in the story. It disrupted the flow and pulled me out of the emotional moments.
I also struggled with the dialogue, which often felt unrealistic and overly polished in a way that didn’t sound natural. At points, it seemed like there were a lot of big words added more as filler than for impact, which made the prose feel heavier than it needed to be.
That said, I did genuinely enjoy the core premise and think the story idea itself was strong. I just didn’t connect with the writing style, which ultimately affected my overall enjoyment.
This book is not what I expected it to be, in a good way. I thought this was going to be another story like we hear on the news about a teacher falling "in love" with a student. I was pleasantly surprised.
Cameron is a teacher. He is respected and loved by many. As with many beloved male teachers over the years, some of the girls started to have a crush on him. What he does with that is inexcusable though.
I found myself in disbelief and disgusted by many of Cameron's actions. I could not believe that an adult would do so many horrible things.
The way the book ended was a shock to me. I did not see it coming that way. I was on the edge of my seat to read how it would end.
Although this book is a work of fiction it's good to remember to be nice to everyone and treat them fairly. You just never know how someone deals with hurt, rejection and lies.
Twenty-five year old Cameron Balridge, a high school teacher, has been with Hayley Lofton for a few years before three high school students turn his world upside down. Samantha Brocking is one of the most popular girls at the school. Melanie Randolph is the straight “A” student with no social life. Nikki is an early bloomer that has "Mr. B’s" loins set afire. Now Nikki is dead and Samantha is missing. Hayley isn't going to like what Cameron has to tell her.
Nobody Has To Know is the first book that I have read by Frank Nappi and it is very different from any of the books I have read.
Cameron Balridge is a good looking young man who teaches at a high school. He is liked by many of the students and staff. A few of the female students like him a lot more. Even though he is in a serious relationship with a woman, he starts having feelings for one of his female students. He knows that it is wrong but the temptation is there and that if anyone finds out that he will lose it all.
Frank pens "Nobody Has To Know" in a thrilling plot with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. His characters are complex and interesting in this haunting tale and will stay with you long after you finish the book. I was totally captivated with this novel and had a really hard time putting it down. Frank Nappi just got a new fan...me! Highly recommended for all thriller fans.
This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author which was provided for an honest review.
This book is DARK. Like “one bad decision spirals into absolute chaos” dark, and I could not look away.
Following a high school teacher whose life unravels after crossing a dangerous line, this story dives headfirst into obsession, guilt, and the terrifying weight of secrets. What starts as a questionable choice quickly escalates into blackmail, manipulation, and a constant sense of dread that something worse is always coming.
The pacing had me hooked—short chapters, high tension, and twists that kept me flipping pages way past bedtime. And that ending? Completely unhinged in the best way.
That said, the characters aren’t exactly likable (honestly… most of them are a mess), which made it harder to emotionally connect at times. But somehow, that added to the unsettling vibe of the story—because you’re not rooting for them, you’re just watching everything burn.
If you love: ✨ morally gray characters ✨ messy, toxic decisions ✨ psychological thrillers with jaw-dropping twists
this one will absolutely pull you in.
Final thoughts: disturbing, addictive, and impossible to ignore—just be ready to question everyone and everything by the end.
I love a good story that grips your imagination as well as engages you into the characters lives. This book succeeds. We meet a guy who seemingly has it all, but wants more. It delves into the internal greed and selfishness we all may experience in our lives and shows the depths of evil we may run to in our quest to satisfy then try to justify our wants.
It’s about a man who wants it all but doesn’t want to have to pay for his mistakes, if he can avoid payment. The thing is, can he?
This is a very good psychological thriller. The characters are believable and easy to connect with. I was expecting the normal Lolita type of story but no… we enter an Indiana Jones movie type of thriller that leads us one way then another with surprise after surprise until the final surprise.
Just when you think you figure it out, well, nobody has to know.
Thank you Frank for an intriguing and well thought out story. Well done Sir.
Nobody Has To Know is a gripping and emotionally tense story that pulls you in from the very first chapter. Frank Nappi does a great job exploring guilt, temptation, and the consequences of keeping secrets. The writing is smooth and engaging, and the pacing keeps you turning the pages wanting to know what happens next.
The characters are flawed in a realistic way, which makes the story feel believable, even when their choices frustrate you. The psychological tension is definitely the strongest part of the book, and Nappi builds it well without overdoing it.
The only reason it’s not a full five stars is that a few parts could have gone deeper—some emotional moments feel rushed, and a couple character motivations could have been explored more. But overall, it’s a compelling, intense read that stays with you.
If you enjoy suspenseful, character-driven stories with moral complexity, this book is worth picking up.
I ate this book up. Read it in a day. Cam is a charismatic young teacher that makes a dumb mistake and his life starts to unravel a little at a time. He has a student that stalks him making his life more difficult as his relationship with his fiancé falls apart. I predicted a couple of possibilities for connections at the end of the book but was still surprised. As someone who was rooting for Cam's situation to get better I was sadly disappointed but that also made the books ending more juicer and I now wonder what happened to certain ladies in the book and where life has taken them after the ending of this book. All in all a decent suspense novel. 3.5 🌟.
Cameron Baldrige, the main character, is really something lol. While I would not do what he’s doing if I were him, it’s pretty intriguing to see what he’s going to do. This book is definitely a page turner, and the title fits the story perfectly throughout, “nobody has to know.” I might say the ending feels a little too “safe” to me (maybe I was hoping for something more open-ended, more lingering), but it’s definitely unexpected and can be shocking. Highly recommend if you are seeking a fast-paced, smooth thriller that is easy to follow and entertaining.
Huge thanks to the author, Frank Nappi, for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.
