He pulled him out of a cage. He should have left it at that.
Zain Rashid doesn't save people anymore. The former Detroit cop turned his back on a broken system and built something better - a crew of ex-military, ex-law enforcement operatives who hunt human traffickers in the ruins of a city that forgot how to protect its own. He's efficient. Methodical. Cold.
Then he cuts the lock on the last cage in a Delray warehouse and finds Seth - starving, shaking, and ready to fight anyone who touches him.
Seth doesn't do grateful.
Four months of debt bondage couldn't kill him. Neither could the pills, the prison time, or the years of sleeping in places no one should sleep. He's been invisible his whole life, and he's not interested in being someone's rescue story. What he wants is purpose. What he wants is in - into the crew, into the work, into the war Zain is waging against the people who caged him.
What he wants is Zain. Even if wanting him is the most dangerous thing he's ever done.
Zain has one don't get attached.
Seth breaks it the first time he opens his mouth.
As Lakefront Logistics closes in on a trafficking network with connections to Detroit PD, Zain and Seth are pulled deeper into a conspiracy that threatens everything the crew has built. The closer they get to the truth, the harder it becomes to keep their hands off each other - and the more Seth proves he's not content to stay on the sidelines.
He's not a victim. He's not a liability. And when the blood starts flowing, he'll prove it.
Weight of Ruin is Book 1 in the Iron & Blood series - a gritty, dark MM romance set in the decay and defiance of contemporary Detroit. This book features a morally gray vigilante crew, a sharp-mouthed survivor who refuses to break, explicit content, and men who love as hard as they fight.
What you can An ex-cop vigilante who kills with precision and loves like it's a threat A sharp-mouthed survivor who bites back harder than he breaks "Teach me to fight" → training that ends on the mats (and not the way either of them planned) Touch him and I'll bury you energy He kills for him. It changes everything. Found family forged in blood and bad decisions A crew of broken, beautiful men you'll be desperate to read about next Detroit in winter - rust, ruin, and no mercy Possessive, filthy, can't-keep-their-hands-off-each-other heat Dual POV - his cold control cracking, and the brat who cracks it "Your brat." (Yes. That scene.) An HEA earned in blood
Content Trafficking (on-page aftermath, not graphic depictions of assault), past addiction and recovery, violence, morally gray characters, explicit sexual content, gun violence, references to past incarceration, found family forged in blood.
Really liked this one! The writing style was easy to understand and the story was interesting enough for me to continue with the series. The smut was nice too 😎 Loved the found family with broken men.
It was a fun fluffy read. I was expecting more dark themes and action but most of the book was the team being domestic at their base. I liked the characters in the team and I liked the two main characters. I did find the writing style a little cheesy but overall I enjoyed it.
This was really cute, a lot of fluff. I wanted a quick read and found this while scrolling through KU. Insta love isn’t normally my vibe but I didn’t mind it with Zain and Seth, they had pretty good chemistry. Super tame in terms of dark romance, nothing left me in suspense or had me on the edge of my seat, nothing really got my heart pounding, no angst and honestly the violence was super minimal too. I was expecting a lot more dark themes than there were. The couple spicy scenes were really good. Honestly my favourite parts of the book were the parts with Ghost, I am super intrigued and definitely will read his book.
What a great book. I grew up in the Detroit area and knew all the places talked about in this book. Even though the characters are fiction trafficking is not. This is a story that needed to be told. This was in my opinion was very Well written and I am looking forward to the ones that follow.
As a native of metro D town... I was curious about this one. And it in no way disappointed. Very spicy, hard men learning how to feel... and great characters. I can't wait for more.
