A romp with Max Thorton becomes more, but Kenna McIntyre's standing by her tried and true method of dating--she's moving on. Having successfully dodged Max's calls and crushed any remaining sparks, Kenna learns that one of their encounters has produced startling results--a pregnancy she didn't believe possible and activation of her fire witch powers.
Can she reconcile her past relationship failures with a future that includes Max--if only as the father of her child? And what about her knitting, crafting, home-body mom who turns out to be a bad-ass fire witch fighting for the good of humans everywhere? Can Kenna be a devoted mom, a crime-fighting daughter, and a newly awakened witch without losing her sanity?
With the help of friends Lizzie and Jack, her shockingly capable mom, and a feisty little magical book that refuses to be silenced, Kenna might just have a shot.
Witch's Diary is fourth in the Lost Library (Paranormal Urban Fantasy) series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone novel.
Kate Baray writes page-turning urban fantasy with relatable characters.
When Kate's not tapping away at her keyboard or in deep contemplation of her next fanciful writing project, she's sweeping up hairy dust bunnies and watching British mysteries.
Kate is from Austin, Texas (where many of her stories take place) but has recently migrated north to Boise, Idaho, where soup season (her favorite time of year) lasts more than two weeks.
She's worked as an attorney, a dog trainer, and in various other positions, but writer is the hands-down winner. She's thankful readers keep reading, so she can keep writing!
Kate's series include Lost Library and Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. Under the pen name Cate Lawley, Kate (aka Cate!) writes Vegan Vamp Mysteries, Death Retired Mysteries, Fairmont Finds Canine Cozy Mysteries.
This was an excellent read. The main character, Kenna, is so real. She's not some twenty year old girl waiting on a guy to rescue her. She's a grown woman and handles things as such. The story is magical, but it's written so matter of fact that it seems perfectly normal. I was given this book to read in exchange for an honest review and I was unfamiliar with the author. Now, I can't wait to read more of her work.
I received this book for an honest review. I like the story line and will be reading the books that go with this one. Kate bray writes a good story and hope she continues to write more books.
I really love this author's writing! She is terrific at combining well-written, engaging characters with plenty of paranormal action/suspense. This was a great read and I enjoyed it.
I have to be honest and admit that Lizzie's stories, in the first three books of this series, really are my favourite, probably because of the magical books, and the magical library that is part of them. That said, this was still an excellent story, with plenty of action, drama and lots of cheeky humour!
Kenna is a bit of a mess, especially when she finds out at the same time that not only is she pregnant, but she's a witch. She handles these new aspects to her life relatively well, all things considered.
Then almost immediately, she finds out her mom - also a witch, and a really powerful one - has been kidnapped. Kenna has to call on all the supernatural friends she has to help her figure out how to get her mom back, while also figuring out what to do with her new powers. It makes for an exciting and fun story to read.
I highly recommend this whole series to any lovers of paranormal fiction. It is filled with action, magic and a little bit of romance. Lots of fun!
A Fun Magical Read This is the first book that I've read in this series and thought that I might be missing out on a bunch as this is the 4th book in the series, but that was ok, it was just fine being read as a standalone, it didn't detract from the story at all, in fact I enjoyed it so much that I am definitely going to be going back and reading the series from the beginning. In this story we follow the adventures of Kenna and Max, who are two very likable characters. While reading this story I enjoyed the plot, twists, the ups and downs, the twists, the magic, the love and the laughs. I was drawn into the book right away and found it hard to put down. The ending isn't what you would call a cliffhanger, but it definitely leaves the door wide open to another book to follow. I would definitely recommend this book. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I did receive this novel as a free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is book for of the series. It leaves from Lizzie & Jack, to her friend Kenna. The friend, Kenna we find out in book #3 that she is pregnant by the ex-boyfriend Max. Max seems like a great guy, although the Kenna, isn't really willing to give him another chance.
Through book #4, we learn that her mom has been kidnapped, and we have to go back to Prague to gather information on where they maybe keeping her. Her mom, seems like a sweet lady, who knits and oh has a side hobby Kenna just learns about of being a witch!
We are introduced to numerous new witch's and other new people. I think I got lost a few times trying to figure out who was who.
Overall a great story of witch's and a great mystery.
I received this ebook for an honest review. Imagine being upset and stressed out, only to find out that your pregnant, single, and a fire witch!! Well if you hang around weirdness it's bound to include you! I really enjoyed this venture with Kenna and hope we get more about her and Max. Kenna has reasons to not trust love. Max is strong enough to travel with her on her magical journeys. When Gwen (Kenna's mother) gets kidnapped, Kenna finally meets her mother's closest friends. Family truths and skeletons come out of the closet. As fun as this book is, we need more about this family. Gwen needs a book about herself too! Whatever happened to Ginny and Gwen's fiancé? Just how close is Walter to Gwen? I need and want more!!!
“I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review”. Loved it. Recommend it highly. It was a book you will want to read and not put down. When she gets the register tape at the grocery store smoking is great. something that would be nice for rude people. And then the other things that come into play. I don't want to ruin it for you by telling you too much. But it is great. If you like witches and humor, mystery and so on get this.
Fantastic follow up to the previous Lost Library editions
I really enjoyed this story -easily as well written as the Lost Library stories based on Lizzie. The author seems to have pulled off a story that manages to be funny, heartwrenching and heartwarming in turn throughout. I can't wait to read the next book :)
The fourth book in the Lost Library series is character driven, and has quite a few new, interesting characters, (both good, and bad). Since I never give spoilers, (at least, not on purpose), I can't say much about the plot. I can say, there were several surprises, and one especially that I did Not see coming! This story is well crafted, interesting, and entertaining. As with all the others, I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend the series and the author, to anyone who enjoys a good paranormal, romantic suspense story!
I really love this series!!!! This book focuses more on Kenna and her mom than on Jack and Lizzie. You still get glimpses of Lizzie and Jack, so if they are the main reason that you are reading this series you still get your fix of them. I hope that Kenna and Max can get together in the next book in the series. I can't wait for it to be published. For a fantasy lover this series was an unexpected find and I loved every minute reading it.
A good fast Facebook going in to mordeath from the previous fourth novel of the original theories lost library book 4 with a disappointment because in social shortthis one fell then and goes currently in the timelinethey're both happening at the same time. They probably should be a book 5. The leases, and there is another book on this one. Which it could because the author left everything hanging with both hill and pregnant.
I liked how although this book was part of a series, that it focused on Kenna and Max and not Lizzie and John. It was a nice change of pace. Although I did have some issues with this book-particularly how men and women differ in getting their magic. That didn't really make sense to me, I feel like it was a cop out to make Kenna have magic now.
This is the fourth book in the Lost Library Series. Kenna finds out she is pregnant with Max's child, she also find out she is a fire witch. Add in a kidnapping and threats and you have a good story to read. Lots happen and leaves you wanting more. Would have liked more of Max and Kenna's story, like how they got together and why they broke up.
As with every book I have read in this series I have enjoyed this book, immensely. That main and supporting characters are fascinating, the plot is straight forward, and the premise was getting the main character's mother out of the coven prison. I most definitely recommend this book!
I loved the plotline about rescuing Kenya's mother, and about Jenna learning her new witchy powers. But I did not like that Jenna and Max have not come together. Maybe that is for a later book, but since another book is not out yet, it leaves me hanging, which I do not like.
This book was ok but for a YA book it was a little confusing. Some of the ideas they came up with were confusing and a little in depth. I have read 3 books in this series but am not sure about reading any more.
Loved this series, the characters, plots, craziness and funny. You won't go wrong reading all 4 books. I truly hope there are many more in this series very soon.
Newbie witch, with fluctuating hormones, a great cast of characters, most of whom we have met in previous books. I expected or maybe hoped is a better word choice, a sweeter ending , although this worked
Enjoyed all the characters. The story and plot were fast moving. Read all four books in the series. An interesting and creative view on how the magic worked between all the different magical societies and intermingled seemlessly coming together for a good ending.
This story has Kenna as the main character and despite Kenna's quirks was still entertaining! The shock of Kenna not only pregnant but now a fire witch was just the first of many conundrums.
I am done with this series. I am not paying $3.99 for 140 page follow up. The story is not great and the ending in this 240 page novella face planted in disgust at the conclusion. You can skip this, not even kidding a little bit.
