Kayla Whitman survived Theridon Academy—but survival changed everything.

The truth about her power has shattered the fragile balance between dragon riders and hunters, turning allies into enemies and placing a target on her back. Hunted by forces she barely understands and haunted by a prophecy she never asked for, Kayla discovers that the war was never about dragons or wolves at all. Someone is pulling the strings from the darkness, weakening every magical bloodline while the world tears itself apart.

As kingdoms fracture and ancient enemies rise, Kayla is forced beyond the safety of the academy into a dangerous world filled with hidden prisons, forbidden magic, and truths powerful enough to rewrite history itself. Trust becomes a weapon, love becomes a risk, and the bond she thought she understood may be hiding secrets capable of destroying everything she believes in—including her own heart.

The riders are divided.

The hunters are awakening.

And Kayla is no longer running from destiny—she’s learning how to lead it.

Wolf Blood is the thrilling sequel to The Magic of Dragons, perfect for readers who love dragon academies, slow-burn romance, found family, and epic fantasy adventures filled with heart, danger, and impossible choices—where loyalty is tested, power comes with consequences, and the greatest threat may already be standing at her side.

5 stars (it won't let me update it - I felt it needed that fifth star!)

This book builds on the solid foundation of book one and elevates everything to a whole new level. The danger is greater, the stakes are higher, and everyone has something to lose. Not only must our group of characters navigate the politics of the fae and wolf packs, but they must navigate those of the dragons as well. All while an even greater threat is at work behind the scenes, "weakening every magical faction simultaneously while the world argues about dragon riders and wolf shifters."

I loved that we got chapters from the different characters this time around. It really added dimension to the story to get inside their heads and hear more than one perspective.

As the dedication tells us, "this tale is one of found family, unfailing courage and true love." The connection between the core group of characters is a magic all its own, and I really enjoyed seeing them grow even closer. This found family is one you want to root for, and I can't wait to see what book three has in store for them. Especially after that epilogue, oh my gosh. I literally shrieked out loud reading that last bit, it got me so bad. I had to give an extra star just for that!

I loved the first book, but this one took it to a whole other level for me. More action, more emotion, deeper plot twists and more fantastic sarcasm. It really filled in some gaps from the first book, explaining the history between the dragons, fae (not elves!) and wolves.

I was really able to get into their heads and feel their emotions, since the chapters were told by different character perspectives. It really helped bring Mari’s story forward for me; I liked that we got to see her point of view as the side kick who felt left behind and unneeded. It really portrayed the range of human emotions; angst, resentment, jealousy, guilt, fear of loving and being hurt, and how joy and anger can sometimes exist at the same time. And the sarcasm and snarky comments make it realistic and fun to read.

The epilogue twist had me just staring at the last page, wondering how I can get the next book faster. I cannot wait to see where she takes us next.

The Magic of Dragon's: Wolf Blood is an exciting thriller by Laura Burton. I always enjoy reading a Laura Burton book because she writes books that pull me into the pages of her story. I find that the middle of a trilogy is so important to the overall story. Kayla has survived the The Theridon Academy and her magic is awakened. There is a darkness moving over dragons and hunters and Kayla is right in the middle of this problem. I found this book to be so good and I couldn't put the book down. If you love Dragon books then The Magic of Dragons: Wolf Blood is a must read.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Kayla has accepted that she really is connected to the academy and her dragon. Now the problem is she is a prophecy. The bridge between dragons and wolves to end a war. A war that seems to be manufactured to keep control and secrets. Kayla is a first a Wolf who is a rider, bot a hunter as all believes. Kayla, Ajax, Bo and Mari find themselves separated and following different paths. They each must learn about themselves and others to truly figure out what is wrong.

Even though Kayla and her friends had to endure so many trials and tribulations at every step of the way, I still loved the book. Loving the attraction between Kayla and Ajax. Yay!!! We finally see Marigold get the answers she has been searching for but I am not going to spoil that for you in this review. And after reading the epilogue, I am now having to rethink my theories as to how Kayla and her friends are going to survive. Can’t wait to find out in Book 3!

I enjoyed Wolf Blood maybe even more than the first book. The story development of the characters was great and although I tried to follow the advice of the characters in the book I still didn't see the twists coming. Especially towards the end! I can't wait for the next one. I need to know!
