হজের সফর যে এত দীর্ঘ, কঠিন ও ত্যাগে ভরা হতে পারে, তা এই উপন্যাস না পড়লে অনুভব করা সত্যিই কঠিন।

এটা এমন সময়ের গল্প, যখন মানুষ উটের পিঠে চড়ে হজ করতে যেতো। গল্পটি মিশরের পটভূমিতে রচিত। তিনজন পতিতা; আজিজা, আমেনা ও জান্নাত। যারা এক সময় ইসলামের দিশা খুঁজে পেয়ে একজন দরবেশের হাতে ইসলাম গ্রহণ করে। তাঁদের একমাত্র স্বপ্ন ছিল হজ করতে যাওয়া। কিন্তু তাঁরা জানত, এ সমাজ যদি তাদের অতীত জানতে পারে, কখনোই এই সুযোগ দেবে না। তবুও কোনোভাবে ইবনে মূসা তাদের কে হজ কাফেলার সঙ্গে যাওয়ার অনুমতি দেন। কিন্তু হঠাৎ সফরের মাঝপথে এক মর্মান্তিক বাঁক আসে। তাদের হজ যাত্রা হয়ে ওঠে একটি ভিন্নধর্মী যাত্রা; ত্যাগ, ধৈর্য, আস্থা এবং আল্লাহর ওপর অগাধ বিশ্বাসের এক কষ্টকর পরীক্ষা। তাঁরা অপমান, কষ্ট, অমানবিকতা, সবকিছু পার করেও ঈমানের ওপর অটল থাকে।

Finished this book just now. And I'm literally in tears. This book made me cry on so many points. And I haven't cried reading for years.

The book that shakes your ideas about the hajj! The hajj that was just a big set of sacred rituals with a mystic history that involves some toilsome practices for me, is now one of the most important thing on my bucket lists.

When we think of prayers and success and achievements and whish to do something with life, we have our own timings in life. Our own ways imagined to get our dreams fulfilled. We just wait for a yes from the divine decree.
We forget that nothing happens on our timing or following our desired patterns. Sometimes prayers might take years to be fulfilled. And we might lose temporary happiness for the sake of them. But in the end, it will be worth it. With all of the bittersweet feeling for all of the hardships, reckless times, cruel people and unfair treatments of life in the past, you'd have your most beloved prayers in front of you and it would make your heart smile.

This book tells you how unfair we are towards the people of sinful pasts repented and moving on with pious lives. And how man is the worst enemy of man. And how we forget to treasure the beauty of humanity and run for other worldly possessions.
Oh my God! My review seems so simple. I really am spellbound by the beauty of this book.
If I could tell how beautiful it is that it's making my heart ache at this moment while thinking about its beauty. About how rudely awakening it is towards the love for our Creator.

I've always been a fan of this author. It's no ordinary book and deserves every possible praise it can get. It's poetic. I'm grateful to be able to read it. ♥️

There are few authors who i love so much that i can read their grocery list, Sumera hameed is one of them ugh the chokehold she has on me is unreal.

I loveee ibn e musa my sweetheart he really is something because the way he never held Jannat, aziza and amna's past against them always treated them with respect and after losing them he actually held himself accountable and thought he has failed his job of (ameer e karwan). Was ready to give up his position because he thought he no longer deserve it 😭 he's so good to be true.

منصور سے بات چیت نے اسے کتنی شدت سے یہ احساس دلادیا تھا کہ کارواں کا امیر ان سے کس احترام سے بات کرتا ہے۔ وہ اس کی جلی کٹی باتوں کو نظر انداز کر دیتا ہے۔ وہ انہیں بھی، اپنے جیسا ہی سمجھتا ہے۔ قاہرہ کی عورتیں، کوئی بھی عورت،مخصوص عورتیں نہیں۔

This story isn't just about the 3 beautiful ladies and their way to Iman , Kabba and love , its every human's journey to find themselves,
Ham insaan itni choti choti cheezun pe khud ko aziyat dedete hai, lakin ye bhool jate hai ki ye dunya ek Imtihaan hai, hume Allah ko bhi muh dikhana hai, ye sab kuch nhi rehna wala , rehna wala tu sirf Allah hai.

This is one of my favourite novels,and one of the best novels by sumaira hameed. Short story yet impactful. It deserves all the attention. Sumaira Hameed's way of writing is unique and mesmerizing. I just adore the way she describes everything in her Novels, she is so underrated!

Tawaf e ishq, A story of the time when people used to go for journeys on camels. The story is based on Egypt(cairo). Three friends Aziza,Amna and Jannat who were formerly tawaif but they repented and accepted Islam in the hands of Darvesh who took them with him and they started to live with the old darvesh his wife & their children. They started practicing their deen (religion).They had a wish they wanted to go for hajj but they also knew that if people got to know about their past they won't accept and allow them.(Allah maaf kar deta hai, magar insaan nahi karta - yakeen ka safar) We People often judge others by their past. But somehow they were allowed to go with the caravan for hajj but they have to keep their identities as secret only the Leader of Traveler group (meer e karvan) knows about it. But in the middle of the journey there awaits for them something devastating , a journey different from the other caravans who are going for pilgrimage a journey of sacrifice, patience,trust & strong faith in Allah, somehow their past identity were know and they were not allowed to do Hajj as they were not considered pious, and they were sold in the market ( this part 💔), They went through so much but their faith was always firm, with all that they went in the end 3 of them become much more stronger they have succeeded in their test by Allah Almighty while mankind has failed . Also The character of Darvesh and his home scenes were beautifully portrayed. I also loved the character of Murad & Ibn musa his loyalty and how he waits for them all this year .
A must read for everyone, you'll definitely love it !

طواف عشق:
جو سفر پر نکلتا ہے وہ منزل تک ضرور پہنچتا ہے بشرطیکہ منزل تک پہنچنے کی تڑپ سچی ہو۔یہ کہانی ہے سچی تڑپ رکھنے والی تین لڑکیوں آمنہ، جنت اور عزیزہ کی، جو کہ تین طوائفیں تھیں مگر ایک درویش کی دعوت ہدایت پر تائب ہوئیں اور اپنی باقی ماندہ زندگی اللہ کی رضا کے مطابق گزارنے کا عہد کیا۔ یہ اس زمانے کے داستان ہے جب لوگ حج کے لیے امیر حج کی سربراہی میں قافلوں کی صورت میں سفر کیا کرتے تھے۔ ان تینوں نے بھی حج کی نیت کی اور سفر پر چل پڑیں مگر یہ بھول گئیں کہ توبہ کرنے والوں کو اللہ تو معاف کر دیتا ہے مگر زمانہ نہیں کرتا۔ وہ نہ تو خود دوسروں کا ماضی بھولتا ہے اور نہ ہی انہیں بھولنے دیتا ہے۔ ان تینوں کے ساتھ بھی یہی ہوا۔ طوائف کو طوائف سمجھنا آسان اور طوائف اب طوائف نہیں رہی تسلیم کرنا مشکل ہے۔ ہر ناپاک شے پاک ہو سکتی ہے لیکن طوائف کا دل نہیں۔ ایسا فرض کر لیا گیا ہے۔
کاررواں پر بدوؤں کا حملہ ہوتا ہے اور اسی دوران یہ انکشاف ہوتا ہے کہ اس کاررواں میں تین طوائفیں بھی شامل ہیں۔ بدوؤں کے حملے کو ان طوائفوں کی نحوست تصور کر کے انہیں کاررواں سے بے دخل کر دیا جاتا ہے اور ڈاکوؤں کے حوالے کر دیا جاتا ہے۔ ڈاکوؤں کا سردار انہیں منڈی لے جا کر کوڑیوں کے مول بیچ دیتا ہے اور یہاں سے ان تینوں کا کڑی آزمائش کا سفر شروع ہوتا ہے جو کہ سات سال پہ محیط ہوتا ہے۔ یہ سات سال ان کی سعی کا زمانہ ہے۔ ان سات سالوں میں وہ زندگی کے تلخ ترین تجربوں سے گزرتیں ہیں۔ دنیا کی سفاک حقیقتوں کا سامنا کرتی ہیں مگر پھر بھی ثابت قدم رہتی ہیں اور بالآخر اپنی منزل پر پہنچ جاتیں ہیں۔ کیونکہ اللہ تعالی اپنے بندے کا مقام بلند کرنے کے لیے ہی اسے آزمائشوں سے گزارتا ہے۔

مہر میراں:
مہر میراں دو مختلف زمانوں سے تعلق رکھنے والی لڑکیوں کی موسیقی سے عشق کی کہانی ہے۔ موسیقی سے ان کا یہ عشق دونوں کو امر کر دیتا ہے مگر فرق صرف اتنا ہے کہ مہر اس عشق کی قیمت اپنی جان دے کر چکاتی ہے تو میراں اس عشق کی خاطر ہر داؤ کھیل کر کامیاب ہو جاتی ہے۔

برہا بہاگ کی مینا:
یہ کہانی غربت کی چکی میں پستے فنکار گھرانے میں پیدا ہونے والی مینا کی ہے جس نے یتیم خانے کی سیڑھیوں پر مہ جبین ناز کی حیثیت سے آنکھ کھولی اور اپنا بچپن قربان کر کے اپنے دور کی سب سے کم عمر، حسین اور کامیاب اداکارہ مینا کماری بنی۔ مگر اس شہرت کی اس نے قدم قدم پر بہت بڑی قیمت چکائی۔

سمیرا کی کہانیوں کی سب سے اچھی بات یہ ہے کہ ان کی کہانیوں کے موضوعات متنوع ہوتے ہیں۔ عام طور پر لکھاریوں کے لکھنے کا انداز اور موضوعات بھی کم و بیش ایک جیسے ہوتے ہیں مگر ان کی ہر کہانی دوسری کہانی سے بہت مختلف ہوتی ہے۔ کہانیوں میں موضوعات سے متعلق ان کی معلومات بھی خاصی وسیع ہوتی ہیں جس سے پڑھنے والے کی معلومات میں بھی خاصا اضافہ ہوتا ہے۔

Sumaira Hameed🤍I don’t even have the words to describe her writing.
This novel was truly a masterpiece.
There was a bitter reality in it, how we can’t forgive others while forgetting our own sins and how we judge people based on their past.
The stories of the three girls Amna, Azizia, and Jannat really made me cry. They were so patient and inspiring,and how they sacrificed so much for the sake of Allah.

While reading this I kept thinking about how ungrateful we can be like we start complaining about the smallest pains while some people endure so much in this world and still remain more grateful.

I am so glad I read this book.
It’s so intense, so pure, and exactly the kind of story that makes you enjoy every word you’re reading.
So, the story is about:
Jannat:
"Jannat ne tawaif, tawaif, tawaif ke baad pehli baar apne liye ‘farishta’ lafz suna tha. Ismein pehli baar zameen ke kisi insaan se apne liye aasmani lafz suna tha.” 🥹😭
Oh Murad! the man you are 🤌

Aamna:
“Main kaun hoon? Meri qadr kya hai? Main Khuda ke liye kya hoon?”

“Be-qarar beher hain, be-qarar lehr hain.
Tera Rabb rehmat hai, aur yehi teri qadr hai.”
Kalam-e-Haq par likhi tahreer—Aamna ke liye likha Haq.
Iss ka sawal qadr tha, aur Rabb ka jawab bhi qadr.

Azeeza:
“To kya woh zindagi ke karwan ke ameer se, hajj ke karwan ke ameer ki baat kare?”

Ibn-e-Musa:
Misr ki shaan, Qahera ka har-dil-azeez! 🥹

There is so much that can be written in this man’s honour. His past was heartbreaking.

“Imaam-e-Kaaba ne Ameer-e-Karwan Ibn-e-Musa aur Khatoon-e-Karwan Azeeza ka nikah padhwa diya tha.” 😭🥹💗

আজিজা, আমেনা আর জান্নাত তিনজন আপন বোন না হলেও বোনের থেকে কম নয়। মিসরের ধুলি প্রান্তরে তিনজন ছুটছে ভিড় ঠেলে। ময়দানে মানুষের মাথা মানুষ খায়। কারণ আসন্ন হজের যাত্রা শুরু হবে। তখন মানুষ কাফেলা নিয়ে দীর্ঘ পথ পাড়ি দিয়ে উটের পিঠে চড়ে হজ পালন করত। আর মিসরের আমীর-উল-হজ সেই সম্মানের অধিকারী ছিলেন যিনি কাফেলার নেতৃত্ব দিতেন। ইবনে মূসা ছিলেন সেই ব্যক্তি যিনি নিজের গুণে এমন পদে আসীন হয়েছিলেন।

কিসওয়াতুল কাবা আর মেহ❜মাল শরীফ নিয়ে কাফেলা যাবে হজে। সেই জিনিসের আগমন মিসরবাসী দেখতে পথে সমাগম করেছে। এই তিন উচ্ছ্বল তরুণীও পবিত্র সে বস্তু দর্শনের জন্য প্রাণপণে ছুটে যাচ্ছে উঁচু কোনো স্থানের আশায়।

পবিত্র সে বস্তু দেখেই আজিজার ইচ্ছা হলো সেও পবিত্র হজের এই যাত্রায় শামিল হয়। কিন্তু তাদের জন্য হজ করাটা খুব সোজা কথা ছিল না।

কথায় আছে আপনি কালো অতীত থেকে নিজেকে ছাড়িয়ে আনলেও অতীত আপনার পিছু ছাড়ে না। এই তিন নারীর অতীত ছিল পাপে ভরা। তারা ছিল তাওয়াঈফ। এক দরবেশের দেখানো পথে আজিজা পাপের পথ ছেড়ে আল্লাহর পথে ফিরেছিল। ফিরিয়ে এনেছিল জান্নাত আর আমেনাকেও। দরবেশ নিজের কন্যার স্নেহে তাদের পালন করেছেন। কিন্তু কন্যাদের এই আর্জি তিনি কী করে পূরণ করবেন?

কারণ অতীতের এই কালিমা থেকে তারা আল্লাহর কাছে তওবা করে হয়তো মুক্তি পেয়েছে। কিন্তু সমাজ, সমাজের কটু ব্যক্তিরা কি তাদের এই অতীত ভুলতে দিবে? হজের পবিত্র যাত্রায় শামিল হওয়ার জন্য সমাজ কি তাদের ছাড় দিবে?

দরবেশ আর্জি জানালেন আমীর-উল-হজ ইবনে মূসা কাছে। যথারীতি সে মানা করে দিলো। মূসার অন্তর হয়তো সাফ কিন্তু তার মধ্যেও সমাজের ভীতি ছিল।

যে তওবা করে আল্লাহর কাছে ফিরে আসে তাকে আল্লাহ্ ক্ষমা করেন। তার ইচ্ছাও আল্লাহ্ পূরণ করেন।
আজিজা, আমেনা আর জান্নাতের কাবা দর্শনের যাত্রা ঠিকই কবুল হলো।
কিন্তু সেটা মাত্র দীর্ঘ এক যাত্রার প্রথম পদক্ষেপ ছিল।
তারা তিনজন ঈমানদীপ্ত নারী জানতো না মরুর পথ তাদের ভাগ্যকে কীভাবে লিখে রেখেছিল। আল্লাহর ইচ্ছা ঠিক কেমন ছিল তারা জানতো না।

কাবায় তাওয়াফ করার ইচ্ছা তাদের তিনজনের জীবনকে কীভাবে বদলে দিয়েছিল সে ব্যাপারে বিন্দুমাত্র ধারণা ছিল না তাদের। এই দীর্ঘ যাত্রা তাদের ঈমান, আমল পরীক্ষা করেছে। তিনজন আল্লাহর প্রেমে উজ্জীবিত নারী তাদের জীবনের প্রতিটা পরীক্ষা কতটা ধৈর্য্য আর ঈমানের সাথে দিতে পারে তার প্রমাণই হয়তো আসল ❛তাওয়াফ-এ-ইশক❜!

❝তাওয়াফ-এ-ইশক❞ পাকিস্তানি আধুনিক লেখিকা সুমাইরা হামিদের লেখা ইসলামী আধ্যাত্মিক যাত্রার এক উপন্যাস।

পাকিস্তানি বেশ কিছু উপন্যাস পড়েছি। তাদের ইসলামী উপন্যাসের ধারাটা আমার বেশ ভালো লাগে। সেখানে প্রচলিত ধারায় ইসলামকে না দেখিয়ে সহজ, সরল এবং ইসলামের পালনীয় দিকগুলোকে খুব স্বতঃস্ফূর্তভাবে ফুটিয়ে তোলা হয়।

ইসলামের পাঁচটি স্তম্ভের মধ্যে হজ অন্যতম। এই উপন্যাসের খুঁটিও এই হজ। গল্পের সময়কার অনেক পুরোনো। যখন মানুষ কাফেলায় সমবেত হয়ে বিশ্বের সকল প্রান্ত থেকে আল্লাহর ঘরে হজ করতে যেত।

মিসরের সবথেকে বৃহৎ কাফেলার অংশ হয়ে হজ করতে যাওয়ার ইচ্ছা পোষণ করা তিন আল্লাহ প্রেমী নারীর যাত্রা এই উপন্যাস।

উপন্যাসের শুরুটা খুবই সুন্দর। প্রাণবন্ত তিন উচ্ছ্বল নারীর বন্ধুত্ব, হাসি ঠাট্টা আর তাদের আল্লাহর পথে আসার চমৎকার সূচনা ছিল।

দুটো অধ্যায়ে লেখিকা ভাগ করেছেন কাহিনি। প্রথমভাগে তাদের তিনজনের হজ যাত্রার কাহিনি আসে।
পড়ে মনে হতে পারে পথভ্রষ্ট ছিল, এক দরবেশের কথায় আল্লাহর পথে আসলো। হজ যেতে চাইলো আর চলে গেল? এত সোজা!

কিন্তু এখানেই দ্বিতীয় ভাগ এসে আমাদের জানান দেয় আল্লাহর রাস্তায় যাত্রার পথ সবসময় সোজা হয় না। সেই পথ হয় বন্ধুর, কণ্টকাকীর্ণ। সেই পথ পাড়ি দেয়ার সামর্থ্য তাদেরই থাকে যাদের ঈমান শক্ত, বিশ্বাসের শক্তি অসীম।

আজিজা, আমেনা আর জান্নাতের এই হজ করার বাসনা কীভাবে তাদের জীবনকে অদ্ভুত মোড়ে নিয়ে গেছিল সে গল্পটা পাঠককে অবাক করবে।
ঠিক কতটা শক্তি আল্লাহর প্রতি বিশ্বাসের সে নতিজা তাদের পুরো যাত্রায় পাওয়া যাবে।

তাদের সংগ্রাম, দুঃখের মাঝেও আশার সেই টিমটিমে বাতিটা যেভাবে পথ দেখিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে তা সত্যিই মনোমুগ্ধকর।

বইয়ের শুরুটা যেন অনবদ্য তেমনি পরে দিয়ে লেখিকা অনেকটা ধীর গতির করে ফেলেছেন। একই কথায় মনে হচ্ছিল আটকে গেছিলাম।
আবার শেষদিকে খুবই দ্রুত টেনে দিলেন। এক ঘটনা থেকে আরেক ঘটনায় টার্ন খুব দ্রুত হচ্ছিল।
শেষটা আরও গোছানো হতে পারতো। এতে মুগ্ধতা বাড়ত নিঃসন্দেহে।


চরিত্র:

মূল চরিত্র আমার কাছে মনে হয়েছে আজিজা। তার চরিত্রের দৃঢ়তা, আল্লাহর প্রতি বিশ্বাস আর ত্যাগ করার মানসিকতা খুবই দারুণ ছিল। কোমলতা, কঠোরতা আর প্রাণবন্ত বৈশিষ্ট্য তার চরিত্রকে অনন্যতা দিয়েছে।

আমেনা কোমল ছিল। তার অপেক্ষার মুহূর্তগুলো চাইলে লেখিকা আরেকটু বেশি প্রকাশ করতে পারতেন। তার সংগ্রাম, কষ্ট সহ্য করে সুসময়ের অপেক্ষার যাত্রা মসৃণ ছিল না।

জান্নাতকে আমার ব্যক্তিগতভাবে অসাধারণ লেগেছে। আজিজার পাওয়া কষ্ট, নির্যাতনগুলো যেমন গায়ে কাঁটা দিয়েছে তেমনি জান্নাতের বিপদসংকুল জীবনে ছোটো ছোটো প্রাপ্তিগুলো হয়তো সেই কাঁটায় মলম হিসেবে কাজ করেছে।

দরবেশ চরিত্রের ব্যাপ্তি কম হলেও ভালোই ছিল।

মূসা চরিত্র থেকে আশা আরেকটু বেশি ছিল। তাকে আরও দৃঢ় হিসেবে আবির্ভূত করতে পারতেন।

ইবনে মনসুর আর তূন দুই খল যার যার জায়গায় ঠিক ছিল। তবে তাদের শেষের দৃশ্য গুলো ধোঁয়াশা ছিল।

মুরাদ চরিত্রটা আমার অসম্ভব ভালো লেগেছে। তার অসহায়তার মাঝেও যে নিষ্ঠা আর দয়া ছিল তা দারুণ।



প্রচ্ছদ, প্রোডাকশন:


প্রচ্ছদটা আমার বেশ ভালো লেগেছে । মরুর একটা ভাইব দিয়েছে।

বইয়ের সম্পাদনায় আরেকটু নজর দেয়া যেত। এক লাইনে শব্দ শেষ না হলে সেটা পরের লাইনে গেলে সাধারণত হাইফেন দেয়া হয়। এখানে হাইফেনের ধার ধারা হয়নি। যুক্তক্ষরের ক্ষেত্রেও পরের লাইনে গেলে সেটা ভেঙে গেছে বা তার প্রয়োগ করা হয়নি।
বাক্যগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে আরও প্রাঞ্জল ভাব আনা যেত।

বইয়ের তিনভাগের দুইভাগে নতুন দৃশ্যে গেলে চিহ্ন (ফুল) দিয়ে বোঝানো হলেও পরের দিকে স্পেস বা কোনো চিহ্ন দেয়া হয়নি। এতে হুট করেই নতুন দৃশ্য এসে পড়ায় বুঝতে বেগ পেতে হয়েছিল।


অনুবাদ:

প্রথম করা অনুবাদ হিসেবে বেশ ভালো। কিছু জায়গায় মনে হয়েছে আবেগের প্রয়োগ একটু বেশি ছিল। সেটা মূল বইতেই এমন ছিল নাকি জানিনা।

Story -

Tawaf-e-Ishq (طوافِ عشق) is a spiritual and historical-style novel centered on three women—Azeeza, Amina, and Jannat—whose journey to perform Hajj becomes a years-long test of faith, patience, suffering, repentance, and divine love. The title refers not merely to the physical tawaf around the Kaaba, but to a spiritual “circumambulation of love” around Allah’s mercy and guidance.

Beginning: Three Women Seeking Redemption

The story follows three women:

* Azeeza
* Amina (Amna)
* Jannat

They were formerly tawaifs (courtesans/prostitutes). Despite abandoning that life and sincerely repenting, society continues to judge them by their past. Their transformation begins after meeting a Darwaish (dervish/mystic) whose teachings inspire them to devote themselves to Allah and leave their previous lives behind. They eventually live under his guidance and dedicate themselves to worship and spiritual reform.

Their greatest dream becomes seeing the Kaaba and performing Hajj. They repeatedly express this longing to the Darwaish and beg him to help them undertake the pilgrimage.

Ibn-e-Musa and the Caravan

The Darwaish approaches Ibn-e-Musa, the leader of a Hajj caravan (Ameer-ul-Hajj/Ameer-e-Karwan), seeking permission for the women to travel with the pilgrims. At first, Ibn-e-Musa is reluctant after learning about their past. The stigma attached to their former lives follows them even after repentance. Eventually, persuaded by the Darwaish and convinced of the women’s sincerity, he allows them to join the caravan.

Disaster on the Journey

The pilgrimage does not proceed as expected.
The caravan is attacked during the journey. The three women are separated from the group upon revelation of their identities, kidnapped, and eventually sold in a slave market. What was supposed to be a sacred pilgrimage turns into an extended ordeal filled with suffering and repeated tests of faith.

The journey’s completion takes seven years, suggesting that the women spend years enduring hardship before finally reaching their goal.

Azeeza’s Story

Among the three women, Azeeza’s storyline is closely connected to Ibn-e-Musa.

Azeeza being taken by a cruel master and enduring severe oppression. She repeatedly attempts to resist injustice and speak against wrongdoing, which results in further suffering. Chopping off of her digits. Throughout these years, she remains steadfast in her faith despite losing almost everything.

Meanwhile, Ibn-e-Musa never forgets them, him waiting for years, holding onto hope that he will find his carvaan again. His loyalty and patience was admirable.

Amina’s Story

Amina’s trials are particularly heartbreaking.
Acid was thrown on her face, leaving her disfigured. Afterwards, she is sold extremely cheaply and ends up in circumstances where she is valued only for practical purposes, including caring for a child named kiswah. Her storyline explores dignity, self-worth, and the question of whether a person’s value is determined by appearance, social status, or Allah’s regard for them.

Years later kishwah is grown enough to be selected among children to weave Ghilaaf e Kaaba (Kiswah) but upon asking about who she is to kiswah and what her identity is, she reveals her identity and is faced with rejection but then she shows one of the man the letter in persian she found in her first pilgrimage and he realises she is one of the closest person to Allah who Allah blessed with Kiswah years ago. Then she is added to the list of people going for hajj that year.

The novel repeatedly returns to the theme that Allah’s mercy is greater than society’s judgment.

Jannat’s Story

Jannat also undergoes years of hardship after the women are separated.

She is married off to Murad, whose is sick with some incurable diseases or as it seemed at the time but Jannat with her dedication and care finds him a doctor and moves to another village and they are both cured (as she has gotten the disease from him too in the previous years). The same year Amina name is called for Hajj so is Jannats.

The Novel’s Core Theme

The central message is that human beings often refuse to forgive people for their past, even after sincere repentance, whereas Allah’s mercy remains open to them.

Throughout their suffering, the women repeatedly lose status, wealth, beauty, freedom, and security. Yet each trial strengthens their reliance on Allah. The novel emphasizes:

* Sabr (patience)
* Tawakkul (trust in Allah)
* Repentance
* Divine mercy
* The distinction between worldly love and divine love
* Perseverance in worship despite suffering

Ending

After years of separation, suffering, and spiritual testing, the women ultimately succeed in completing the pilgrimage they had dreamed of from the beginning. Their journey to the House of Allah finally becomes reality after seven years of struggle.

In the previous years Ibn e Musa dedicated himself to the service of the carvaan e Hajj, and he would call Azeezas, Aminas and Jannats name & that year he does again and finds them. They all perform hajj, and Azeeza and Ibn-e-Musa eventually marry, with their nikah being performed in Makkah.

women’s eventual arrival at the Kaaba not merely as the completion of a physical journey but as the culmination of a much deeper spiritual transformation. After years of trials, they emerge stronger, purified through suffering, and closer to Allah than they were when the story began.

This is the novel that made me cry. It follows three courtesans (tawaifen) — Azeeza, Amina, and Jannat — who endure everything together, sacrificing their wealth and beauty for one dream: to visit the Kaaba. After years of waiting and immense struggle (azmaish), that dream finally comes true.
Their ordeal begins when their group, finally setting out for Hajj after so much difficulty, is attacked — the three are kidnapped and sold in a slave market. From there, each girl's fate unfolds separately.
Azeeza is imprisoned under a cruel master. She tries again and again to speak out against the oppression, enduring immense suffering for it. Unknown to her, the leader of the Hajj group they were once travelling with had fallen in love with her — and he waits years for her at the Kaaba, never giving up hope of finding her again.
Amina, left disfigured by acid, is sold for the price of a rat to a man who buys her only so she can raise his child. His wives, jealous of her former beauty, are the ones who threw the acid on her — yet she never gives up. She raises the child with wisdom and love, and years later, when the child competes in an Islamic quiz alongside her, they pass together. It's this moment that finally brings her a piece of the Kaaba and, after all those years, her chance to go for Hajj.
Jannat is married off to a man suffering from a disfiguring disease. She nurses him and, in doing so, contracts it herself — yet her resolve never breaks.
My favorite scene is still the very first one — the three girls climbing a mosque wall just to catch a glimpse of the pilgrims leaving for Hajj. Knowing everything they go through after that makes the scene even more powerful in hindsight.
Honestly, I don't think I could survive what they went through with even a fraction of their patience (sabr). It left me shaken — how can one person be tested this much? But as they say, Allah tests those He loves the most.
No real criticism — a solid 4/5. My only wish: Amina deserved a happy ending with a hero too, not just a piece of the Kaaba. Also, the pacing made it a little hard to stay engaged at times.
Recommended for those who love history, and for anyone in their own azmaish, wondering "why me?"

I’m in awe at the writing style. How the author lays down the principles of Islam like Sabr(patience), Tawakkul, Repentance and more) and the way she weaved the story to imply the importance of different acts under different circumstances.

This book was sitting in my tbr for a while but since it was not available online, I couldn’t read it earlier. But finally, I got my hands on the 2nd hand copy of it. I really wish someone would have made me read this book during one of my toughest times, it really would have made things a lot easier. Despite that, even now, this book heals, it revives your belief in Islam and boost your morale.

Overall, a book that has to be read over and over again, especially when things are going south. Absolutely loved the writing style (it’s soothing, feels like something my grandma would read to me, like a classic yk).

This book has my heart my soul! I cried like crazy, but I also smiled through the tears. Even now, some lines randomly come to mind and make my heart ache and soar at the same time. Hajj ka itnaa taweel safar shayad hi Kisi ne Tay kiyaa hogaa and I want to read this again and again and againnn.

Jab kbhi Dil udas ho pareshan ho bechain ho yeh parho. Apni sari takleefen pareshaniyan bhool jaogay yaqeen karo!!

Excellent theme. Sumaira Hameed is writer of love and she writes it so beautifully whether it be love of Allah or love of mankind. After an extended period, I've encountered something exquisite that goes beyond the conventional hero and heroine narrative.
Girls love for Hajj as well as the beautiful scenes of desert , it was all beautiful. Girls have succeeded in their test by Allah Almighty while mankind has failed.

Uff such a beautiful and heart warming novel. This is my first Sumera Hameed's novel that I read and I can say she is such a brilliant writer in spiritual writing. The novel was fast paced, it wasn't dragged at all. Azeeza, Aamna and Jannat are literally well written specially Azeeza, strongest among them. The theme, I really liked how she portrayed old egypt with so much details, like I was imagining each and every scene in front of my eyes.
Journey of Hajj, ishq e haqeeqi, ishq e tawaf, ishq e baitullah, ohhh all are so amazingly expressed, I am really impressed with author's work. I have no words to explain how much I liked it.
I found some flaws when writer was explaining some past scene transitions, It was a little bit confusing. But still Its a best peace of work, at the end it made me too emotional, the Journey of three girls who left everything for Allah SWT and remained on HAQ. They didnt loose their courage and determination.

Beautiful... its a must read. Go Ahead & enjoy the old time Journey of Hajj.
