As one would expect from a screenplay by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, Marty Supreme is propulsive and exhausting in the best way, a story that makes you root for its lead character while also begging them to stop. You can feel the tension and obstacles mounting throughout this script, and it's almost like this story could burst at any moment. However, the screenplay does understandably mute some of the elements that are electric on the screen. For example, Marty is a much more uncomfortable character to be around in the film, because Timothée Chalamet knows how to highlight his best and worst details. And while this script is still tense, it doesn't hit you in the gut the same way that the film does. Yet this is still an engrossing, cringe-inducing screenplay that was only made better when it made the jump to the screen.

Saw the movie six times, and the film pails in comparison to this screenplay. This was so tucking good. Dammit! I can’t believe they didn’t go with a lot of the shit that was written. Fucking masterpiece…. All hail the Safdie brothers
