My Guide Dog is a Wolf Shifter

Rate this book
It started as a terrible plan. Then he caught feelings.

Jason needs to disappear.
So his friends hand him the worst idea become a guide dog.

Violet didn’t move to a quiet little town to become “the brave blind girl.” She came for independence. For a fresh start. For the chance to figure out who she is now after spending the last year rebuilding her life after losing her sight.

So when an enormous guide dog named Jason shows up for a trial match, Violet says yes…

Then Human Jason knocks on her door.

He’s supposedly a cooking instructor for visually impaired clients. He’s charming in a way that should be illegal. And the fact that he shares a name with her dog is the kind of cosmic joke that makes Violet want to fight the universe in a parking lot.

Between grocery-store commentary, weekly lessons, and one wildly inconvenient flutter in Violet’s stomach, her world starts getting bigger again.

Jason thought he was just choosing the safest place to hide.
Violet thought she was just choosing her independence back.

Neither of them planned on the part where ‘temporary’ gets complicated.

You need an editor to fix mistakes, but the story started out good but it just drugged out until I just skipped a lot of it to the end. The alpha is following them didn’t make a lot of sense. The what they owe the alpha didn’t make a lot of it was just difficult to read.

First things first in case you’re like me and you’ve ever thought “oh the things my cats (dogs/birds/ferrets/whatever) would say about the things they see me do if they were suddenly granted the ability to speak and human level comprehension… In “dog” form, Jason leaves the room when she changes clothes. Also, a Trigger Warning at the end.

This book is like stepping outside on a clear, sunny day and lifting your face to the sun, eyes closed, to bask in the sun’s heat on your face.

First thought I had while reading the book? Holy smokes but does this book grab you from the jump or what? Spoiler alert – the answer is *not * “or what.”

Yay for Be My Eyes rep!!!! Folks, that’s a real app where real people help other real people.

First question that came to mind while reading was a perceived plot hole, which has a mostly adequate resolution within the story.

First time I went from leaning back curled up in my chair to a whisper-shouted “YES! MEEEMAAAAAAW!!!!!” is something I can’t tell you about because it’s a real spoiler (not like my figurative spoiler alert above).

There’s some contrived x happens right before y completely independent of each other right before the climax, but the climax is so spectacular I could ignore worse. Although… there is a little bit of a wrapped up too pretty element that I’m just going to go with because Memaw is just too delightful and bad AF (minus the F).

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t silence the “how does she not know that this is not how you get a guide dog” and “okay I know we know she’s going to find out the truth eventually but if he had to just up and leave like he’s planning to do she would be used to a “dog” who does stuff a real dog can’t actually do!” which I suppose makes me like the people who complained that the live action Ariel was a woman of color instead of a paper white *imaginary creature * so I’m not deducting any stars for that.

I was also super curious how the betrayal/forgiveness element would be handled when she found out the truth, and I don’t want to risk spoilers, I’ll just say I thought that was very well done.

TW: abandonment/disowning of children.

This was such an adorable, quietly compelling story — the kind that sneaks up on you instead of overwhelming you with drama.

There isn’t huge, explosive action here, and honestly, it doesn’t need it. The tension comes from something much subtler. As a reader, you’re aware of the looming timeline ticking in the background, and it creates this steady undercurrent of urgency. Violet doesn’t know it’s there, which makes every soft, growing moment between her and Jason feel even more fragile. You’re rooting for them while holding your breath, hoping that deadline never comes crashing down.

Violet was such a strong character. I loved that her blindness is part of her life without ever being framed as something that defines or limits her. She has her moments — frustration, doubt, vulnerability — but she pushes through. She adapts. She lives fully and independently, and it feels authentic rather than overly sentimental. Her resilience is woven naturally into who she is.

And Jason — especially in his dog form — was unexpectedly endearing. There’s something so sweet about the way he handles things for Violet. It never feels patronizing, just thoughtful and intentional. Dog-Jason being so distinctly human in the way he moves through the world for her was honestly one of the most charming parts of the book.

Beau might not dominate the page, but his emotional presence is huge. Every scene with him carried weight, and he left a lasting impression. Way too lovable for his own good.

The twins were also an unexpected but satisfying development. Their arc added depth without distracting from the core relationship, and I was genuinely pleased with how everything unfolded.

Overall, this is a soft romance with quiet tension, strong emotional beats, and characters that feel warm and real. It doesn’t rely on chaos or spectacle — it builds intimacy instead. And sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

I really, really liked this book <3. I love this author’s prior representation of differently abled people, and this book does not disappoint. Violet struggles for sure, but Jason never comes to her rescue. He may help guide her but for the most part, he lets her do things herself as he figures out how best to act as her support. I love how warm their romance is. Whenever they interact it’s always so wholesome. I also love Violet’s interactions with her Meemaw and Jason’s Interactions with Beau. I found myself actually smiling without meaning to during so many scenes.

The only problems I had were that I found a couple of passages were a little confusing, and you kind’ve need a bunch of suspension of disbelief when it comes to the stuff involving the violent shifter pack but otherwise, honestly, no notes. As to plot, other than this book being a bit of a slow starter(which isn’t my favorite but was definitely worth it),  the story itself was everything I wanted from the summary, and it left me feeling just really content and satisfied.

Also, a huge highlight was the ending. It just wrapped up so so nicely(so much so that I want a book about Beau and Fiona). I also love that at the end every time you think “that’s it” and you're satisfied a new ending chapter appears like a gift.

I would hugely recommend it if you want a wholesome, very slightly angsty story about two people coming together to make early other better and establish a place to belong for themselves.

I got this for free but I would  have been super happy if I bought it too.

Yep, that title absolutely hooked me. I’ve felt a little cynical writing reviews lately, but this book reminded me how I actually enjoy experiencing the different stages of a story as it unfolds.
The book opens with three extremely young wolf cubs who are orphaned and brutally cast out of their pack. We follow them into adulthood as they stumble and bumble their way through survival and eventually find themselves on the wrong side of pack politics. The sheer brutality of pack life plays a big role in shaping their path.
Eventually the story shifts to our heroine. We see her struggles and her triumphs as her life collides with theirs. The looming mate bond is pretty obvious to the reader—even if the characters take their time figuring it out. By the end, the story comes to a satisfying resolution, and even the pack that originally seems completely unhinged turns out to have a few redeeming qualities.
Along the way I found myself endeared to several side characters, and there’s an absolutely flabbergasting plot twist that caught me off guard.
My favorite moment was what I dubbed Jason’s “male menopause” moment—after rapidly shifting between wolf, dog, and human, he ends up overheated and miserable. The scene had me giggling.
The title might be the hook, but the story made the ride worth it. The only reason this isn’t a full five stars for me is that the amount of explicit sex felt a bit excessive for my taste.

First and foremost, thank you to the author for allowing me to read this story early, in exchange for an honest

ARC Review:
When I first came across the opportunity to read this book early, the cover had me swooning (I'm a dog love either way). Not only that, the description had me curious because 1. I haven't read enough about Blind main characters (I know thats bad, but I hope to work on it). 2. It made me realize that I haven't read a proper werewolf story since wattpad (excluding FBAA, not sure if TOG or any fantasy series has that and I just forgot, OOPS🙈). So this was a really interesting one for me. I was hooked from the first page.

MeeMaw is such a character that I think anyone would fall in love with. I did feel like certain scenes felt rushed. It definitely needed more since its such a crucial part of the plot. I have so much respect and admiration for Violet, its unbelievable. The way she works through things, manages her emotions, and so forth is truly remarkable to see. And Jason just made it even better. He respected her from day 1, without any other thought. He made life easier for her. She did the same for him. They're definitely made for each other. How can I forget Buff and Hattie? The two people that truly cared about Jason and Violet, from the moment they met. I love found family so that hit hard. Overall, I'd highly recommend!!

I really liked it until the ending. The ending just kinda pissed me off. This is extremely spoilery so only read this is you don't plan to read the book. Freddie sucks. There was a little bit of foreshadowing, they gave him rogue traits for fucks sake, but ultimately, him stealing from Violet and then betraying his trauma bond brothers felt like way out of left field for the situation. That sucked. And being re-exiled, even for good reason, felt so cruel for a feel good book.

Also the twin pack. They were set up as cruel, deviant, sloppy, fucked up, stupid, and criminal. Their redemption felt slimy and disgusting and absolutely unearned. I've literally got the biggest ick face on right now even just thinking about it. To go from being extra Disney villain vibes to found family? No. They were literally introduced as the cruelest pack on US soil. If a redemption was in the cards, they should have just been overprotective of the daughters. And speaking of, weren't there two? And now there's just one and she's left her pack for the non-pack that Jason starts? Without asking him first? Yeah okay, like that's how wolf dynamics work. *rolls eyes*

This went from decently okay to downright ick in the last quarter, and I'm so disappointed.

Violet is in a serious car accident and as a result loses her sight. She needs to relearn many things while being independent. It is hard learning the layout of a home, navigating the stairs, cooking and shopping. She has her Meemaw and a new friend Hattie. Maybe she needs a guide dog.

Jason, Beau and Freddie have been wolf pack misfits since they were little. They are exiles. No pack to guide them or to learn from. They get in trouble and literally run for their life, from the twin leaders/pack alphas. If they catch them they will be killed. They run to hide and plan to leave the area.

Violet is out riding a horse and is thrown, the horse being startled by three wolves. Jason comes up with the idea to help Violet as a guide dog. Then helps her learn to cook, shop and label everything in her house. Surprisingly they fall for each other. Picnics and dancing together. It is a sweet read.

Then Freddie betrays them to the Alphas. To save Violet and Beau, Jason surrenders. What will happen to Jason? How will Violet handle Jason/dogs Jason being gone? Does Violet learn about his dual nature?

I absolutely loved this book. The cooking parts made my mouth water. I will be reading more from this author!!!!

This story was endearing, sweet, and genuinely funny—I found myself laughing through most of it. The main male character completely stole the show for me. He was hilarious, but also incredibly romantic and thoughtful in a way that felt natural and sincere. His balance of humor and heart made him impossible not to love.

The main female character was just as wonderful. She was strong, funny, and resilient. Even when life challenged her and it became difficult to maintain her sunshine personality, she kept pushing forward. Watching her navigate those struggles made her feel real and relatable.

While there were some serious and emotional scenes, they were handled beautifully and always resolved in a satisfying way. This isn’t your typical shifter romance. Both main characters carried the weight of difficult and sometimes lonely childhoods, which added depth and emotional richness to their journey.

Roxie Ray does an amazing job portraying complex characters with warmth and authenticity. The combination of humor, heart, and healing made this story a standout for me. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a shifter romance that’s both heartfelt and refreshingly different.

idk maybe I was in a bad mood when I read this. I wanted to love this. I mean a werewolf pretending to be a guide dog because he's in hiding. but the set up for why he was in trouble was too long and honestly didn't make sense. I would have preferred if they didn't even try to explain the situation instead of wasting my time with that nonsense. like they were about to get hung by the rival pack. when I read this type of book I give a lot of room for silly premises and setups. so if they hadn't spent half the book explaining it I would have just shrugged and gone along with it.

it was also insta lust, but not fated mate. which fated mate could have been really funny. it was also the perfect situation to build a relationship and like it could have been really funny him listening in dog form to her talk about how her date went.

also this read like a chatgpt conversation
he was not broken
he was not behind
this was the start of new beginnings

the descriptions were really weird. like did a human come up with them?

idk

the romance was not there: instalust, also they were just trying to scam her

I'm really enjoying these cozy shifter romances, and, just FYI for fellow readers, they work great as palate cleansers if, like me, you also read a lot of dark an/or angsty/stressy romance, too. And, like, yeah, okay, I had to skip ahead a bit just to see how things ended with the Eustace pack, and that made me sad because I really wanted to like *name redacted* even though he seemed to constantly be doing sketchy stuff. Maybe someday we'll get a little redemption arc/spin-off for him. As much as I liked Violet and Jason's (Dog-Jason and Human-Jason) relationship, it really felt like the side/supporting characters really stole the show more often than not, especially for the last few chapters and the epilogue

Anyway, loved the book. Kinda sad it's over.

Good read

I was expecting it to be more of a comedy, but this story actually goes deeper - the heaviness of Jason’s experience of being unwanted, the determination of Violet as she regains her independence, their character growth as they lean on one another. There are lighthearted moments, especially towards the end when I was anticipating sadness and drama, but it’s definitely more serious a lot of the time.
One thing that stands out to me: essentially this is a homeless guy who posed as a service dog to live in her house, and though she meets the human version and falls in love, I was surprised that topic didn’t come up at all once the secret was out. She should’ve made a bigger deal out of this, imo.
But it’s an easy read and I enjoyed it.

This is told in first-person dual POV.

Oh my! What a sweet story. What a fun unique romance. The premise is fairly simple and a lot of the story is a little predictable not in a bad way in a “I’ve watched a ton of Hallmark movies, I know what’s coming” kind of way. But the end, yeah you gotta get to the end, soooo good and NOT predictable.
There are a couple questionable scenes where our MMC is jumping between wolf and man that probably would not work, but hey magic right?
If you are looking for a warm fuzzy, quick read and werwolf tale with perfect sidekicks this is a good one.

Love, love loved this book.

Two different broken souls looking for a future. He is on the run after always been shunted. She is alone after an accident and trying to fight another day in life.

The banter in this book is so good, so many one liners that had my laughing hard.

With a lovely HAE!

This story was absolutely beautiful. Second chances, found family, belonging, overcoming. Ugh it was just so beautiful to read about Jason and his little pack finding that sense of being chosen, found, and wanted. Then for Violet being such a BA. Dang I loved her throwing all cares to the wind and standing up for her man and new family. I could feel the deepness of their emotions and bond to each other. I would read this again for sure.

This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it quite a bit! I found it to be a fairly light read but I tend towards books that have pretty heavy world building as well as a good amount of blood and violence, so take that as you will. There was some spice but this book was definitely more plot than smut. Overall, I think I'll be checking out more books by this author.

My Guide Dog is a Wolf Shifter was both emotional, funny, and spicy. There was something so heartwarming about the character arc for both Violet and Jason and the way that they both found strength from each other. But there was still elements of levity, especially with Jason pretending to be a guide dog and all the chaos that ensued. This was fun beach read perfect for someone looking for something a little extra

Another amazing story

Oh my goodness, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record here. But...

Another fantastic story, with many exciting twists and turns awaiting us.

Pacing is by now, very well done and familiar. The characters are introduced wonderfully and given plenty of read time, and by the end there the story is satisfying closed with perhaps a hint of more? But then I always want more from your characters and stories. <3

THIS HAD SUCH PROMISED I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. It started a bit slow but once it got going I was like okay this is actually hilarious and then….. stall. The story is just too rudimentary. Not enough fleshed out feelings. It needs more time and thought into developing the characters - would’ve loved more funny interactions between the FMC and dog-Jason. Just so much missed opportunity, smh. Also YES I did see this on a Facebook ad and immediately had to read it - how could I not?

Roxie Ray has created another amazing read. These paranormal rom-com romances have quickly become some of my very favorite reads. Jason is hilarious, becoming a guard dog may have seemed like an easy route but he got a handful with that choice. I love that these books have serious themes mixed with such great humor and amazing characters. This one was just an excellent read.

This was a great book. Violet is not your typical FMC and she has grit and determination. Jason is hiding as her seeing eye dog for her. He’s doubling as her teacher to learn cooking while blind. Several times it was comical. This was a sweet story and a few times I teared up. They each have issues to work out, but they work as a team. I loved her Nan. She was a hoot.

I was pretty much stuck into this book right from the first page, which doesn't always happen for me. Especially with shifter type books.
This one was so sweet though. There's enough angst and drama to keep it interesting as well.

Roxie Ray has some of the best summary’s, romance and plots. I saw this one and took the plunge, but was quickly reminded why I am not a fan of her writing. For me, she is too descriptive. The plot, character chemistry, romance, and flow was great! Loved it! Meanwhile, I am not a fan of over describing or a lot of narrative and there was too much for me.

This is the book I didn’t know I needed to read at the moment. I’m a huge fan of Roxy Ray’s shifter books, and this one hit all the right notes—heartbreaking, healing, and love. Both Jason and Violet faced so much hardship. Jason entered Violet’s life at the perfect moment, and Violet’s love and courage were exactly what he needed.

Guide Dog Shifter

This is a wonderful love story, except with a twist. Jason, a wolf shifter goes into hiding as a guide dog for Violet, the blind girl. Craziness ensues.
Violence happens and love blossoms. I love most all of Roxie Ray’s books, but this one was special and so worth reading.

What a good story. It flowed really well and I read it within a day. It was a nice break from my normal fantasy that I read. This is such a feel good book. And makes you realise that you need to appreciate what you have. Things that you take for granted so easily
