Thanks to wings & words & M. Patrick Furry for this read.

5 star read from me

It was nothing like I was expecting and really is the "never judge a book by its cover" (in a good way cuz i love the cover lol).

It was an emotional read for me with 3 generations of one family involved in the book (the keene family) it really shows the good the bad and the ugly of a family dynamic and it blew me away. Although it is fiction it has a realistic feel to it with regards to what you feel as a family throughout the whole book & damn what a plot twist at the end, everyone loves a plot twist!

The dynamic and conversations between the grandson, father, and grandfather alone are worth the read. The story is so different from what I was expecting. The supernatural part of the story is really not the point, but a great tool to drive the character arcs. It’s a road trip story, a family drama story, an exploration of what it means to be family and a story about how we see ourselves and those around us. Just a fantastic read.

So good! It’s nothing like what I expected. I didn’t expect to laugh or cry as much as I did. It was really just a different kind of novel. Like a fairytale for adults, but not a fairytale. The magical element was really grounded and not really what the story was about. Definitely made me want to call my dad.
