Zoe and smiles for miles, Miles sitting in a tree… But seriously these two are so dang cute ,they really are .
Baker Zoe Wells has just turned forty and has never been wed. Spending her time on her splendid bakery in Sea Breeze Harbor, Florida instead. Miles Harper is a successful writer ,mid forties with two grown offspring. Romance isn’t in the offing it’s passed him by ,but it’s his writers block he has his mind upon as he emits a sigh.
So here’s an idea ,why not get away for a couple of months ,see if a change of scenery will help get those locked words out. It’s worth a shot because he’s not got a lot else , and this next in series detective genre book needs to be written and on bestseller list bookshelves. So a tiny coastal town he’s bound and a cottage rental found.
The meet cute ,I ask you. Is there any better than her standing like the chef of Christmas past with flour covering half of her ass? Well it’s top half but she sure gave him a laugh at her gaff and something else he hasn’t yet put a name to. Miles Harper, he likes what he sees and what’s more his writing block dam has burst its banks with ease. Sure he has this delightful cafe or the lady who owns it to thank. The words flow like the strongest river flooding its bank. And so he’s back the next day and there’s no guessing why. He’s so happy and so is his editor. The book has words by the thousands ,it’s taking shape is this detective novel .
He’s not exactly staying in a hovel but it’s not a true representation of his status ,his station in life. He’s mid forties ,no wife, that’s true but Zoe he’s not entirely being truthful about himself… She’s just turned forty ,just her and her bakery to care for. But it’s a good life. She’s not looking for romance , hasn’t given anything or anyone a chance for so long. Could getting close to this gentle, funny man be what she has been missing without even knowing . Look at her red cheeks ,they’re glowing.
So do these two haplessly beautiful people who chance meet and make each other complete with amour ,have a future together or left wondering what might have been forevermore? Well you’d best read this book and fast like I did . It’s by Leah Busboom’s and ever so good . Go read it I would if I was you .

Zoe is such a sweet FMC. She wants to find love, yet feels as though time is running out for her, due to her age. Girl, love has no age limits or requirements! Miles lost his wife years ago and is ready to put himself out there again, but his hidden career does make it tricky to get close to people. But things are easy between the two of them and they fall quickly. I loved seeing Miles talk about Zoe with his daughters! It is easy to feel his excitement.
While the hidden identity does cause some hurdles for these two, as always love wins. Leah’s books always promise a happy ending and this one delivered. Leah wrote both characters in a way that is easy to connect with them and wants to see them both happy. While Miles does keep his author self hidden, I do understand why. At the same time, it provided a layer of suspense, especially about what will happen when Zoe finds out.

My name is Brandi, spelled the same way, and I can’t tell you the last time I saw a Brandi of any spelling in a book. It’s just not a common name, and has been associated with some less that savory things, so I was absolutely delighted to see a Brandi in this book.
Zoe and Miles have to leap over a few hurdles before they get to that happily ever after, but they get there, and it’s just as sweet as the rest of the book. It’s a perfect beach read, so get the book!

This delightful small-town romance was everything I wanted in a feel-good beach read. Filled with warmth, humor, and plenty of sweet moments, it proves that love can find you exactly when you least expect it.
Zoe and Miles were absolutely adorable together. Zoe's passion for her bakery and her quiet hope of finding love someday made her instantly relatable. I loved how genuine and kind she was, and it was easy to root for her happiness. Miles was equally endearing. A successful author struggling with writer's block, he finds far more than creative inspiration when he arrives in Sea Breeze Harbor. Watching his feelings for Zoe grow while trying to protect the secret of his hidden identity added just the right amount of tension to an otherwise cozy romance.
Their chemistry felt natural from their unforgettable first meeting, and I enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom through shared conversations, laughter, and simple everyday moments. I love small-town romances; I also love fake dating and small-town bakeries. This book has all of these elements, so it was bound to be fun for me.

Her life is suddenly changed when a handsome newcomer enters the bakery and flips her world upside down. Suddenly, she has someone new to bake for.
Miles is looking for inspiration for his new book when he enters Zoe's bakery and finds her covered in flour. Suddenly, his muse returns, and he spends his days writing away in the bakery whilst sampling the new-flavoured muffins daily. When a flirtatious customer approaches him, he panics and says Zoe is his girlfriend. She ups the ante and claims they are engaged.
I love fake dating; it's so much fun. I love how awkward Zoe was around Miles, fumbling over her words and tripping over things. She thought she wasn't in the market for love, but Miles changes all of that. I loved Miles and the fact he was hiding just how successful an author he really is. I can totally understand why he kept it from Zoe; he wanted to show her his real identity rather than his pseudonym, but it didn't really go to plan.
This was a sweet story and I ate it all up, just like those muffins.

Talk about a funny first impression, oh my this one was a doozy. Zoey is working in her bakery and has just been assaulted with a face full of flour by her giant mixer right before a customer enters. Lets just say Miles will not soon forget his first meeting with the lovely Zoey.

I love these novella romances because there is so much fun packed into a few pages. There was something especially sweet about this story. I think the characters were just so likable. I enjoyed it immensely. If you need a reprieve from real life and need to escape into a sweet romantic comedy, this one is a perfect fit.

One of the things I enjoyed most was that the romance wasn't overly straightforward. The characters don't fall instantly into a perfect relationship. Instead, they face obstacles and personal struggles that make their journey together feel more realistic and rewarding.
The character development is another strength. Both protagonists have interesting backstories, although the hero's past has a greater influence on the plot than the heroine's. Even so, they both felt like well-rounded individuals, and I found myself invested in their story.

I loved Zoe and Miles together. I loved how their relationship progressed - and since it is a quick read it was a fast progressing relationship. Sometimes I love the novellas because they pack a lot into the story and you love it from the first to last page.
I also love that this series has the characters in their 40s. It's fun to have characters that are my same age-ish finding love and their HEA.

Plot Twists and Pastries by Leah Busboom is a delightful escape into a charming beach town where fresh starts, deliciously baked goods, and unexpected romance came together in all the best ways. Set in the backdrop of the Midlife Meet Cute Beach Reads, we are introduced to the FMC Zoe, a bakery owner, and the MMC Miles, an aspiring novelist chasing a dream. One of the things that stood out to me about this novel was its lovable cast of characters. Busboom creates relatable, mature protagonists who prove that love and new beginnings aren't reserved for the young. I enjoyed the story, the bakery, the growing connection of the protagonists, and some side characters.
For me, the secret identity of the hero isn't a problem. If I were in his place, I wouldn't reveal what I write or with what pen name. My choice to do it or not should offend no one; it's enough for everyone to know about being a writer. In the heroine's place, I wouldn't feel offended or lied to because I understand the writer's side. I wouldn't mind knowing that information when the relationship is really serious, if he wants to reveal it.

Plot Twists and Pastries is a cute little addition to the MidLife Meet Cute Beach Reads collection, and I completely enjoyed the lightheartedness. Miles's attempt to escape his public figure life by becoming a nobody writer in the charming small town of Sea Breeze Harbor is such a fun hidden-identity setup, and Zoe and her bakery treats had me craving something sweet the whole way through. There's a lot packed into this quick story, and it delivers on charm, humor, and heart in equal measure. A perfect cozy, feel-good escape.

This is a wonderful fun romcom. It’s a great feel good story, maybe a few tears for me but is made me smile throughout the story. Zoe owns a bakery and Miles is a best selling author with writers block. He finds his muse again at Zoy’s bakery. He doesn’t mention he’s a best selling author, he lets Zoe think he’s a starving artist. As these two start to fall in love will Zoe forgive him for his omission when she finds out. Excellent romcom, well written, fast paced and a quick read and I loved it.

I really enjoyed Plot Twists and Pastries! It was such a fun, feel-good read that left me smiling.
Since it's a novella, the story does move pretty quickly, and at times it felt a little rushed. That said, one of the perks of a shorter story is that you get to the happily ever after much sooner, which can be exactly what you need when you're looking for a quick pick-me-up.
If you're in the mood for a sweet, lighthearted romance that you can finish in one sitting and leaves you feeling happy, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try!

I always love a good novella and this one was so cute. The small town feel, instant connection, and the HEA are just an added bonus. I really enjoyed the meet cute between Zoe and Miles, it was so cute and funny. Miles,the famous author struck with writers block and Zoe the baker who sworn off men. I loved the flirty communication that Miles and Zoe had when he would visit the bakery daily.

This was a fun read. It was short enough I read it within a couple hours. I started on my lunchbreak then continued throughout the day when I had a chance to read.
This would also be fun to read at the beach with a cool drink.

The first meet was laugh outloud funny. The relationship between these two was great to see how far they were willing to go. During the read though you might want to grab a muffin because there are many Zoe makes and it made me hungry at times 🙂
I definitely recommend reading.

This was the best fun, pick me up, short story I have read in a while. I got so much joy from reading Miles and Zoe's whirlwind romance. From the instant attraction, to the impromptu engagement, to the misunderstandings this book was filled with fun and charm. Perfect for a one hour break, this book is sure to bring smile to your face and flutters to your heart.

Some secrets are too big. A small town bakery becomes the spot for a writer to try and break his writer’s block. The baker is beside herself when the handsome man appears in her little establishment. The story follows the clumsy meet-cute thru to a normal conversation. A very sweet tale that is easy to read and provides some tongue in cheek entertainment as well as a few cringe worthy passages.

This book swept me off my feet because of the fun characters and the humor. I enjoyed how Zoe first met Miles and everything that followed in their whirlwind fake romance. He had writer's block until he stepped into Zoe's bakery and she became his muse. It was so much fun to read and it is a great addition to the Midlife Meet Cute series.
