Rachel was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Being part of the Mennonite community, she started writing Amish romance fiction as a way of looking at the Amish community. She wanted to present a fair and honest representation of a love that is both romantic and sweet. Her books about Jacob Marshall, "A Home for Jacob series," is the most popular of her books.
I enjoyed this short Amish novella, the first book I have read by this author. The storyline seemed to move along slowly at times. It didn't keep my attention and I was able to put the book down and complete other tasks before finishing the book.
The book was mostly sad. The family had lost their youngest child, a three-year-old girl, in a tragic accident. Then the mother passed away due to cancer. The only upbeat part of the book was when the father met a young woman and fell in love either her.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish fiction.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and kept my attention throughout. I liked it and found no reason to give it a rating of less than five. I would recommend this series for those that want a short, light story that can be completed in very little time. Hoping to read the entire series.
Good book so far, but disappointed to find that it's just an advertisement or hook to get you to buy the next one to get the end of the story. It cuts off abruptly with no answers as to what Ruth and her boys are up to or what the sheriff finds out. Seems a little unethical to do that to your readers.
If you are looking for suspense this is a easy read, but if you are a follower of amish stories this is very much not ! There are many inconsistencies with true amish life. I am not going to purchase number three because I prefer more amish accurate stories.
The story is fine, but it's more like a few chapters of a book rather than an actual book. You don't really get a while story. You have to buy the next one.
I don't like that I was tricked into thinking I bought a book that leaves me hanging without an ending and it's really only a short story not a complete book.
Sad Amish story. A daughter dies followed by the Mother, Dad meets a woman then story ends. I would assume this continues in the next book. Again I must complain anout these too short Amish books. I will not continue with this series
I found this short novella (22 pages) on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a go. I havent read a book by the author before so I didn't have any expections, but after reading this novella I would definately read more by her! This was a sad story but it turns around with a happy ending, I like it doesnt leave the book on a sour note however it does make you want to read the next book in the series as soon as you can do. Very well written and the characters that feature in it are wel described and developed which makes them seem more realistic
Beth Zook is 16, takes care of her father and takes over the household when her mother dies. Marcus her father starts liking a widow woman who has 2 teenage sons. Beth is leery of them as they act like they have something to hide and act strange. We don't know what the sheriff found out, we don't know if Marcus marries the woman you have to get the other books and keep going. I don't mind that but the story was repeative and was not as authentic to Amish world as some of the great authors like Beverly Lewis, Amy Clipston, Marta Perry or Wanda Brunstetter. I might read more books in this but I highly doubt it.
The author fails to convey the language, thinking or world view of the Amish. The book is filled with modern English colloquialisms that the Amish would never use. Important Amish customs like confronting a sinner or wrongdoers are ignored. It is also full of spelling errors and misused words. Too bad because it had potential.
This amish story is clever, in that it leaves you hanging, thus fully anticipating the next volume. You really are wondering of the trustworthiness of Ruthie and her two sons. Something is too fishy, while Beth's father is gullible and lonely, and Beth knows it!
Not sure if I would keep reading this one. Felt depressed reading it. I like more cheerful reading I guess. All. most didn't keep reading after first few pages. Just my opinion.
The book didn't hold my attention, it was not very interesting and there wasn't enough meat to it. It's left on a cliff hanger but I don't even care to find out how it ends.
I thought this was a pretty good read I didn't like the. Way that this book came on so fast with Ruthie and her boys I think they was more looking for a home than anything else .
