He pulled her from a life ruled by fear, then disappeared without a name, without a promise, without a single explanation. Years pass. The world hardens. Elowyn learns to survive.
When fate draws him back into her path, the connection between them is immediate and unsettling, something quiet and perilous rekindling beneath the surface. By firelight and shadow, he becomes her anchor in a world that has never been kind. With him, she begins to believe in things once denied to safety, belonging, perhaps even love.
Then he vanishes again.
Alone and unprotected, Elowyn is forced into the orbit of a powerful and dangerous man whose interest is anything but gentle. What follows will test not only her endurance, but the fragile strength she fought to build.
And now… he has returned.
Changed. Silent. Watching her with an intensity that unsettles old wounds rather than soothing them. The past stands between them, heavy with unanswered questions. Trust, once broken, does not mend easily. Nor does the heart forget.
Darkfire of Caerwynfael is a gothic fantasy romance steeped in longing, tension, and the haunting cost of silence. It is a story of protection and absence, of love deferred, and of whether a bond forged in the dark can survive the damage left by time.
Perfect for readers who
• Gothic fantasy romance • Slow-burn, high-tension relationships • A deeply restrained, stoic warrior hero • Yearning, missed chances, and emotional intensity • A romantic dynamic reminiscent of classic fairy-tale devotion • A tender romance with no spice
Some loves ignite like wildfire. Others linger like embers, waiting to consume everything.
Some books entertain you. Some books stay with you. And Darkfire of Caerwynfel did both.
This story is all substance — no filler. Every scene moves with purpose, and the world feels immersive without being heavy.
The villain? So well written I almost questioned myself for a second. Almost. He is not morally gray. He is dangerous. And that tension was so well done.
And the yearning?? Elite. The slow, aching, soul-deep kind. There’s a line in a dream sequence that has lived in my head ever since.
As a former military girlie, I have to say — the battle scenes delivered. Strategic, intense, high stakes. And the Skyrin absolutely understood the assignment.
Elowyn and Draitheon’s growth felt earned, emotional, and necessary for the fate of the realm.
Emotionally? This book gave me everything I want in a romantasy. Especially at the end. I cried. No shame.
What really sealed it for me was the growth. Elowyn and Draitheon evolve in very different ways, and what they each accomplish feels necessary for the fate of the realm. Their arcs feel earned.
And one more thing — there is zero spice. None. Not because it’s making a statement. But because the story didn’t need it. And that, to me, is powerful. It proves that yearning, depth, and strong storytelling can carry a fantasy all on their own.
If you love slow-burn tension, high-stakes fantasy, meaningful character growth, and battle scenes that actually feel epic… this needs to be on your TBR. Thank you Katie Lyn Easter for the ARC to review for an honest review.
I loved this book so much! I was lucky enough to read it as an eARC but that did not influence my honest opinion. Possible spoilers ahead (I don’t think so but just in case!)
Premise: Elowyn is a shy girl, who learned early that love comes after pain. One day, a stranger rescues her from her abuser and shows him what picking on someone his own size is like. Never harmed again but never seeing the stranger who saved her life again, Elowyn turns 20 and is finally accepted into a magical academy to learn to harness her rare power. There, she meets her mysterious stranger - Draitheon - again, along with a fantastic group of friends who help Elowyn find her strength and her true self.
The side characters stand out a lot, it really is a terrific ensemble. Elowyn, the FMC, learns to stand up for herself without completely changing from the shy, scared girl into Alice-from-Resident-Evil, and the MMC is a strong yet non-toxic male.
There’s a unique magic system, with some very cool powers. The world-building felt very well done and didn’t leave me wanting. I think this is intended as a standalone, but there could easily be other stories told in this world. Any of the side characters would make great MCs.
This is a zero-spice, NA (new adult) story. Barely even any kissing. Despite some verbally implied threats of SA, it never happens. Although the despicable king’s power allows him to bend anyone’s will to his whims - the ultimate gaslighter - he is thankfully never given a chance to follow through. It’s a very sweet, slow burn romance.
Although it’s being marketed as a ‘gothic Princess Bride retelling’, which is one of my all-time favourite love/adventure stories, I have to admit, I didn’t get many of those vibes at all. I can see the inspiration but this is very much a different story, in my opinion.
HOWEVER, as a Robin Hood retelling, this book checked ALL the boxes and earned the five star rating.
It has one of my favourite book tropes - found family - with a fantastic cast of side characters who very much resemble Robin’s band of Merry Men. Although it could be argued that Alder & Rhenmar are reminiscent of Fezzick & Inigo, I found them far more like Little John and Will Scarlet. I liked the mixing up of gender roles, with Brielle being an incredibly capable fighter, and Sera being a timid but capable spy, where usually these might be roles occupied by men.
✨NO SPICE FANTASY BOOK REVIEW ⚔️ 🔥 | Darkfire of Caerwynfael by @katie_lyn_easter
Right from the start, there’s a mysterious, protective MMC who shows up exactly when she needs him…but she has no idea who he is. That alone hooked me. Add in the steady build of tension and the vivid imagery, and I was completely pulled in from the first page.
Plus, there’s something about characters carrying abilities they don’t fully understand. They try to control them, hide them, survive them… it made me wonder early on if their giftings will eventually cost them something.
Elowyn’s growth felt real and deep. And Draitheon… he’s quiet, controlled, and protective in a way that never felt like an overbearing “main character”, BUT he was always there. Always watching. The restraint between them? It was the kind of tension that builds and builds instead of forcing itself and carrying the whole plot.
You can expect: No spice. Just depth, tension, beautiful words, gothic/Celtic vibes, a stoic protector MMC, soft but growing FMC, hidden powers, high stakes old world, found family, a real good slow burn that feels earned, and yeah, he falls first but still keeps his distance. 👏 👏 👏 . It gives vibes of Princess Bride mashed with Game of Thrones. 🐉

(3.5) Arc review - Darkfire of Caerwynfael by Katie Lyn Easter.
This book cover is stunning. A slow burn, no spice fantasy story with interesting character powers and creative animals. True to the fantasy fashion it is an extremely long book with names you struggle to pronounce and remember. The story has a Robin Hood feel and theme with great found family relationships build.
Elowyn was a strong female character who grew throughout her journey. But there were a few gaps in her story that didn’t make a lot of sense to me and some questions you never get answers to.
Draitheon was an interesting character. He also had a lot of growth and revelations throughout the story. I enjoyed the friendships that were made throughout.
I did feel bit annoyed with the feelings between characters where they just don’t speak up until it’s too late.
I feel some scenes and chapters could have been skipped and had no impact on the flow of the story and we would have had a shorter and more engaging book. Some things were kind of left in the air and never brought up again where you could finally fit it into a slot in the storyline. The book left me with to many unanswered questions.
Recommended to fantasy readers who enjoy all the adventures and the path of characters finding themselves.
This was such a delightful find. I am so glad I got a chance to ARC read this one.
It first struck me because it is just so beautifully written. The writing style is effective and poetic. My brain was like, "It's like a Bronte sister wrote a Romantasy."
The story is engaging and the characters are intriguing. The slow burn was wonderful. Even with how much time they spend apart, you are always felt the tension and longing between them.
This story also did something I adore in a book, it delved into the inner lives and thoughts of the characters in a unique, magic influenced way. The Mindveil and Willshaper magic conflict is the kind of stuff I absolutely eat up. The work to figure out where her will ended and his began was fascinating.
and it played beautifully into the central romance.
This is a fantastic gothic style, slow burn Romantasy. Easy 5 stars.
I have been left without words. That’s why it took me 3 days after finishing this book to write the review.
Darkfire of Caerwynfael is a NO SPICE Dark Romantasy with the slowest burnnnnn and yearninnnng I have read!!!! Like very slowwww, and I loved it!! We have a strong FMC that has gone through the worst life has hit her with and a Broody MMC that I am obsessed with ( don’t tell my husband ) lol. Great world-building, political intrigue, warfare, found family, found strength, I mean should I go on!
This book gave me so many LOTR vibes I absolutely loved it!!!! It is a chunky book but once you get to that last page you are left wanting more. This is a DARK romantasy so there is a lot of violence and some abuse. I didn’t find it too much or too little, just perfect!!! I need more of this world like now!!!!
This decadent, exquisite, and lush Celtic and gothic inspired fantasy was such a delectable treat. I savored every single moment and felt every single emotion!
Elowyn is stuck living under the abusive rule of her father, and one night, she is saved by a mysterious young man. A young man who is rumored to hold the ancient magic of dark fire in his veins. Years pass, and Elowyn crosses paths with Draitheon, the man who saved her, while attending a magic school. When a school tournament turns sinister, and a tyrant king, Kaedor, sets his eyes on Elowyn, she is left not knowing who to trust. As each day passes, King Kaedor tightens his control over the land, driving his own people to starvation and desperation. Elowyn does all she can to evade the king’s control, but finds that her circle of freedom grows smaller and smaller. With rebellion brewing on the horizon, Draitheon sets out to protect the people of Caerwynfael and free both Elowyn and his beloved kingdom from Kaedor, once and for all.
The banter, found family, moments of weakness and strength, and depth of emotion portrayed by each character was so superbly done. Elowyn and Draitheon as main characters and love interests, were not only so refreshing but also so relatable. Elowyn’s growth as a character spoke to my heart deeply, and her courage to finally speak for herself, I felt in my soul. That kind of strength is something you build slowly, brick by brick, and is not for the faint of heart. Draitheon, while flawed, truly embodied what a hero signifies to me. A hero recognizes his weaknesses and strives to overcome them, and allows duty, honor, and doing what is right to be the catalyst for change. Not power. Not prestige. Not even love, though love can play a role in a change for the better. My heart was taken on an emotional journey that I will never forget. I cannot wait to see what is to come for the next chapter of this world!
Review Darkfire of Caerwynfael This was such an interesting read. I went into the story expecting one thing and it was completely different. That is not to say that it is bad, just interesting. This is one of those stories that you can just tell was well thought out, especially the battle planning. It took me a tiny bit to get into the story but once I did, I was hooked. It felt like a combination of Lord of the Rings, Princess Bride, and Robin Hood with a dark, Celtic feel. It’s gritty and pushing the edge of hopelessness but the characters persist anyway.
The main characters are put through the ringing and there is some good character growth because of it. Elowyn really learned how to speak up. I admired her extremely feminine, soft and quiet strength. Draitheon is a strong MMC and reminded me quite a bit of Aragorn. He isn’t a rogue. instead, he’s dutiful yet heavily burdened. His persistence was a virtue. The things he went through were awful. His parts of the story were my favorite. The yearning in Darkfire was beautiful, though I wish we could have seen more of Elowyn and Draitheon together. I would have especially enjoyed an epilogue (not gonna lie though, I have a weakness for them), though it wasn’t wholly necessary. The villain was horrendous I hated every moment I had to read about him.
The story is filled with plotting and battles. It is at times harsh and gruesome. I was impressed with the battle strategy throughout. Honestly, I would say that the cover of this book (while very pretty) does not match the more gothic feel. I don’t normally bring the cover up but I feel like it could make some readers think the story is softer than it is. I don’t say this to disparage the story, maybe just lead the right readers to it. It is a haunting book and I think it is definitely worth the read. I mean, it even made me cry! Overall, a lovely and dark story!
Thank you to Katie Lyn Easter for an ARC of Darkfire of Caerwynfael! All opinions are my own.
No-Spice Rating: 1.5 Language: Arse and Damn Faith-Elements: None
If you are looking for a standalone fantasy book that gives “The Princess Bride” vibes, then look no further! This book has it all! You have magic, war, sacrifice, trust, friendships, etc. I really did enjoy the plot line of this story. It hooked me in right from the beginning (and that’s when I fell in love with our lovely MMC 🤭), because our MMC comes to “rescue” our FMC before they even knew each other. Throughout the story, we see each of them go through struggles together and separately. We see them learning to trust not only each other, but to trust themselves with the decisions that are needed to be made. Our FMC finally learns to stand up for herself and to have a voice in a world she didn’t believe she could have one in. Our MMC learns that he doesn’t have to be the monster if only he sees what lies deeper within. Truly such an amazing story. With this being a standalone, time does move very quickly. I felt at times that I wished it to go slower, because it seemed that as a reader we missed some of the character development. Like we see the change happen, but we don’t get to explore that change fully with our characters. It just felt like something was missing at times. It would have been more impactful to read and see their growth, versus seeing the before, the brief present, and then the after. But aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. So much happened, and you learn to love so many characters, both main and side, and you really just felt immersed I the plot. Overall, a very fantastic book! ☺️
Thank you Katie Lyn Easter for the ARC, it was such a heartfelt read! Elowyn is a strong, but timid FMC; conditioned by her environment. Draitheon has steeled himself from others, protecting them from the dangers of his Erynblood gift. After namelessly saving Elowyn from an assault, he takes her to a healer and disappears from her life for 4 years… upon reuniting at Erynborne Hall of Healing and Arms, Elowyn and Draitheon study and hone their gifts while proximity ignites yearning.
As a gothic fantasy romance, with no spice, I felt each of these were fittingly achieved! The gothic setting suits classic readers, but I also reccomend this for One Dark Window and Lord of the Rings fans who were also invested in the romantic subplots. The fantasy was not complicated to follow, the glossaries and appendices all eloquently explained the world building, with pronunciations as well! The romance was a strong part of the story, but may even be considered a subplot— attraction growing into longing vs. instalust, written with so much yearning and a dash of regret for missed opportunities. The characters all grow into the best versions of themselves; timid becomes confident, self-hatred becomes self-assured, easily distressed becomes centered and collected. The battle scenes had me holding my breath, I felt nobody was off limits and any character could fall!
I recommend this book for fans of The Shepherd King Duology, Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride and Wuthering Heights.
Can love triumph over an evil ruler's spell of fear and hatred??
No Spoilers!
If you love the full range of fantasy literature, then this book is for you!
It has it all: romance, magic, whispered hints of ancient legends and mysterious creatures, courtly intrigue, complex heroes, detestable villains, stalwart allies, intensely emotional character arcs for both MMC and FMC, (is anyone else getting the vibe of an older, deeper genre of fantasy that we haven't seen in a long time that still long for as it lingers on the edges of our dreams?) ... And, most of all: those moments that will bring tears to the eyes of anyone who has ever felt an emotion, no matter how jaded you pretend to be!
Follow the lives of Elowyn and Draitheon as they struggle to find themselves, each other, and their own special magic in a world torn by war and divided by the cruel magic of a despot whose power lies not in some silly ring, but in the subtle arts of manipulation and deception.
I won't lie, it is a long book, but by the end you will be wishing it could be three times longer!
The prose frequently soars to epic heights and catches you with hidden meanings that whisper of all the things you've always secretly hoped were true....
I recommend this book for anyone who has ever felt alone or afraid and wished for a ray of hope. (i.e. Everybody!)
A no spice, Gothic Romantasy that is heavy on the political unrest in the Kingdom of Caewynfael. This story showed how trying to control every situation can eventually lead to failure. I was pulled into the emotions of them all and the hope of a peaceful conclusion. I highly recommend this book for all the romantasy lovers out there.
Elowyn has just got to Erynborne Academy where all the Erynbloods go when they turn 20 years of age. As she attends her first royal dinner, much to her dismay, the king takes notice of her. And when the king wants something, he gets it.
The king has a powerful mind control gift and so has enraptured the people to be his devoted followers all while bleeding the kingdom dry. He doesn’t know what it’s like to have people not go along with what he wants and Elowyn has become his next target.
Draitheon, also known as Darkfire, once saved Elowyn from her own father but she did not know who he was or where he came from. He has been at the academy for a while now but can’t seem to control the power within. When given a chance to save Elowyn from the king, he declines. By the time he realizes his mistake, it is too late. She is now the queen.
First of all, this was an ARC read, thank you Katie Lyn Easter for reaching out ♡
Darkfire of Caerwynfael is an adventure, a story that will stay with you, a powerful love story that breaks and heals your heart at the same time ♡
It was a pleasure to read, even if the world is dark and perilous. The characters have each their own personnalities, struggles, they all matter, they all feel important to learn about ♡ The main characters are longing for each other, and it hurts to see them apart, but the reunions are just everything. Elowyn needs Dratheon, and he needs her, but she is captive and he is restrained... He controls himself, she gets stronger willed... They cannot be together, they failed before ; right place, wrong time. But the world needs them. It needs HIM. And there is so much to fight for.
A five star read, for sure ! ♡ It was a big book, and I loved it, what can I say ! 100% recommend if you want a slow burn love story with no spice at all, and a dark and cruel world around it !
"Silence is a sharp thing. It cuts as cleanly as any blade, and it leaves you bleeding long after the strike." That quote ringed so true I had to pause when I read it. What a amazing story ♡
I really enjoyed ARC reading this for Katie Lyn Easter. This is a no-spice book, meaning kisses only.
Darkfire of Caerwynfael is different from the books I have read before. I don’t read many Gothic Fantasy Romance books. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I loved the found family trope in this book. Alder, Brielle, Draitheon, Elowyn, Rhenmar, and Sera found each other. I loved their relationships with each other. Each of them have something about them that just draws you in.
I loved the storyline of Darkfire Caerwynfael. I did not expect what happened in this book at all, but I loved it. This book was very well done.
The only thing I wished was a romantic tension scene between Elowyn and Draitheon when they were heading to the Winter Ball.
I really want more from these characters. I cannot wait to read more from Katie.
Content triggers:
Depictions of physical abuse between father and daughter
Death in battle
Death of forest animals
Violence (Moderate: battle scenes, imprisonment, past abuse referenced)
This was a great book. I enjoyed the devotion between the 2 main characters. This is what gave me the Princess bride vibe. I almost missed that though. But you could see it in some of the instances. They get separated tragically and she doesn’t know if he’s alive. She’s forced to marry the king, because he is king, and what he says goes. But once she hears word that her love might be alive she does more to stand up for herself. I would agree with the author that this is for mature adults. At least 20-25+ years old. Her content cautions are listed below. Many of the experiences in this book hit a little too close to home for me and sadly did end up triggering my ptsd. Despite this happening, I still enjoyed the book and fell in love with the characters and their growth. I might not read this book again myself but I would recommend this book.
“Emotional abuse and manipulation Controlling relationships and power imbalances Parental abuse (father), one scene Confinement and imprisonment Psychological distress Battle violence, including several scenes of moderate gore Death of forest animals, one scene”
This book was a great adventure full of mystery, darkness, yearning and paths that cross many times. I was so intrigued with this world the author built. If you love Princess Bride, dystopian, quiet fantasy, slow-burn, magic, gothic Jane Eyre vibes with clean romance, you'll love this book.
If I could describe this in one word, it would be almost. There were so many almost moments..being saved, being killed, friends or foe, love or safety...I could go on and on!
Elowyn's quiet strength, kindness and determination really drew me in as she grows. She learns so much about herself and her inner strength. As she makes friends and truly discovers who Draitheon (the man who once saved her) is, she has to trust herself and I admired that. Draitheon is the quiet, broody, but kind and dutiful, even if it takes awhile to truly discover if you love or hate him. I loved him from the very beginning. This book takes you on a very emotional journey with depth, heartache and true pain. I shed a few tears and cursed a few characters, but ultimately loved how it turned out.
This is not action-heavy—this is all about emotion, longing, and what’s left unsaid. If you love angsty, fragile connections and slow burns that take their time, this will hit.
Thank you to BookSirens for an advanced reader copy of this book.
4.5 stars - This book took me completely by surprise! I liked the premise of it, and the execution was even better. The romance was built up so well, the longing was fantastic, and I loved how the plot developed and unfolded.
Elowen is so strong and I love her growth throughout the book, still remaining kind despite all she’s endured. Draitheon was strong, principled, and I liked reading the story from his perspective as well. Their connection was slow, yet undeniable, and I really liked them thinking about each other in their time apart. Apart from the main characters, the side characters were great additions and fit perfectly in the story.
It took me a bit to get into, but once I was in I was hooked! I was pleasantly surprised with how emotional this was and how much this made me feel. I really did feel the princess bride inspiration woven into this and it made me enjoy it even more!
This was truly wonderful to read and I would absolutely read more from Katie.
If you looked up “high stakes” in the dictionary, I think you would find this book.
We are in a kingdom ruled by a tyrant king, and because of a power he has, no one knows if their thoughts are truly their own. So who can you really trust if you cannot even trust yourself?
I really liked the magic system in this one. The way the author introduces each power works really well, giving you just a little at a time. The same goes for the worldbuilding, which unfolds gradually so you never feel overwhelmed.
This is written in a first person dual POV, and it is done right. We follow both the FMC and the MMC. The MMC is especially interesting, and his struggle to understand and use his magic is well written. I also really enjoyed the connection between the two of them. Sometimes it is sweet, and sometimes it is heartbreaking.
This is a story with found family, action, a tyrannized kingdom, and a soft romance where they are afraid to touch each other. I really liked it, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
This book was given to me by the author and I chose to share my honest thoughts.
Rated: PG13 for some language and difficult themes
More than just a fantasy story, this book deals with deeper themes of abuse, protection, control and power. I was emotionally invested in this from the start and was rooting for the main characters from the get-go. Even the side characters were easy to fall in love with.
My favorite part is the slow burn of the story that allowed the characters to grow independently before the romance. I love seeing fully developed characters who are seeking emotional health first and this book delivered!
A few of my favorite quotes: “I wanted to know your scars and the stories beneath them. I wanted to touch the guarded places, when I was ready, when my heart could bear it.”
“Grief does not ask if you are ready. It simply places weight in your hands and tells you who must be buried next.”
“Edges don’t stop being dangerous just because you grow fond of them.”
The cover of Darkfire of Caerwynfael is an absolute showstopper—it captures that lush, ethereal atmosphere so perfectly that I was sold before I even read the first page. Katie Lyn Easter delivers a beautifully atmospheric gothic fantasy that leans heavily into the "yearning" trope, offering a slow-burn tension that feels like a physical ache. The dynamic between Elowyn and her stoic, silent protector is steeped in that classic fairy-tale devotion, and the emotional intensity kept me hooked through every missed chance and lingering shadow. While I found the pacing a bit meditative at times, the "no spice" approach actually heightened the romantic stakes, making every brush of a hand feel monumental. If you’re looking for a story that prioritizes deep emotional resonance and a hauntingly beautiful aesthetic over high-octane action, this is a gorgeous choice.
This book broke me, made me want to fight people, cursed a system that makes people feel small, and scream into a void because some individuals really needed to work on themselves so my heart wouldn’t have to break every time they were on the page (which sucked, in a good way, with them being an MC)
This book is an absolute beauty. The character growth is immaculate. The story built upon itself in a way that showed how much time and space it takes to heal and trust. It’s not n easy road to walk and it’s not easy when you have to take a leap of faith when you’ve been shown nothing but pain. The ending had me in an absolute chokehold. I am not above saying I cried many times because this book just brings out so many emotions especially because in some ways I walked some of these characters paths.
This fast-paced romantasy had me hooked from the very first chapter and never let up. There wasn’t a single moment where the story dragged—it just kept pulling me deeper.
It delivers everything I love: magic academia, found family friendships, missed opportunities, second chances, and strong character development that actually feels earned. And that moment near the end? It genuinely got to me—I had tears in my eyes for a second.
The HEA felt completely deserved, which made the journey even more satisfying.
My only small critique is that I wish a few scenes had lingered a bit longer. Some moments were so good I wanted to stay in them just a little more. But I understand why the pacing had to stay tight.
Overall, a captivating, emotional read that I’d definitely recommend to romantasy lovers.
Thank you so much to Katie Lyn Easter for this ARC! • My rating: ☆☆☆☆ (4.25 stars rounded down to 4) • This retelling of The Princess Bride was a beautiful story about two fractured people learning to heal, love, and trust. I loved both Elowyn's and Daitheon's journeys. As well as the found family, the brotherhood, they made with their friends. They grew through the love of each other and their friends, as well as finding their own strength during times of isolation. The loyalty and sacrifice among the whole group was so touching. The writing was poetic and vivid. There was a part near the end that made me cry. This book had me hooked and I recommend if you're looking for a new book journey to embark on.
This was a solid read. I’d have to say that the graphic descriptions of violence were a bit dark if you don’t like that sort of thing. It was strong for me but I didn’t mind. There are descriptions of death, violence, darkness, magic hoya power, abuse, and a man trying to be intimate with his wife who wasn’t into the idea. Be intentional and don’t say I didn’t tell you. Anyway on to plot discussion. It was very interesting. People with special power and a man who wants to control it all. Not an unusual concept but this was done uniquely. I liked the concept. The almost ending tricked me so the actual ending was quite fun. Love won out in the end-or did it? I won’t say.
This book made me believe in a somewhat happy ending. Even though things shifted even through everything they've been through. This book had me in tears in the best way possible. It's beautifully written high with fantasy which I love. The enemy in this book has earned his place in my hate category and I'm slightly disappointed there was no "twue wuv" I feel like that would make this book a bit better as its already great though saying that I get why the author didn't do it and I respect her for it. If you like fantasy with no smut this book is for you I won't say spice because this book is pretty spicey in other areas than romance.
I received an ARC copy of this book. And while it took me a little longer to read than most books, it was an absolutely amazing read! The slow-burn, the lore, the sparring, the battles. 😍 I thoroughly enjoyed this story! The last 20% of the book had me bawling and at the edge of my seat! I look forward to where this author will take us next. 🥰
Oh. My. Lord!!!!! This book ruined me in the BEST way possible. It was so beautifully written. The tension, the battles, the longing, the sacrifices, the brotherhood, the loyalty of a found family…I mean, there wasn’t ANYTHING I didn’t love about it. Elowyn and Draitheon are the absolute best power couple. To recommend it is an understatement. You NEED to read this book!!! 💙💙💙💙💙
Wow! If you like your books chock full of emotional damage, character growth, and high tension, then this one is perfect. I got so wrapped up in this story I could not read it fast enough.
You’ve got not one, but two characters whose pasts affect their present in detrimental ways. Overcoming traumas and trusting yourself and others is not easily done, yet Elowyn and Draitheon prove that trying is worth it!
This gothic style fantasy perfectly mixes a unique magic system and unjust political rule with deep, meaningful character connections. The eloquent writing immerses you within the story making you feel instead of just telling.
Honestly great book!! No spice, slow burn, gothic romance with high stakes! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! 4 stars because I felt it was a little long. Draitheon… swoon!!!!
