Sadie Speers’s friend Virginia asks her to help research the history of Silver Peak’s first schoolhouse for a presentation at a fund-raiser. The historic one-room structure dated back to the early days of the mining town’s boom years but was destroyed by a fire in 1964. The authorities deemed it an accident, but Virginia isn’t so sure. She calls Sadie one evening, eager to report on a tantalizing piece of information that she’s found. But before she can tell Sadie what she’s learned, the call abruptly ends. Sadie is shocked to learn that someone intentionally ran Virginia off the road. Had she gotten too close to the truth? While Virginia is hospitalized, Sadie turns up cryptic evidence that supports her friend’s arson theory. Can Sadie uncover the truth before history reignites in a shocking collision of past and present? Welcome to Silver Peak, a jewel of a town nestled high in the rugged grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. Behind its rustic charm, Silver Peak has a rough-and-tumble past full of mysteries, and Sadie Speers has a knack for uncovering them, using her love of antiques and Colorado history.
This was an exciting mystery from the opening prologue to the last page. I read it in just a couple hours making for a quick, easy fun read. The mystery kept me guessing and I enjoyed the twists and turns that kept Sadie busy as she put together the clues. I am thoroughly enjoying this series! It's nice to have mysteries with out murder. :)
The fourth in this series. This one focuses on an investigation into a fire that burned down the school 40 years earlier. Still good, complex fun twists in the mystery. Was irritated and unsure why we needed to go into teenage romances so much.
Another good story in the Mysteries of SilverPeak series. Set in a small town near Breckenridge, CO. Love these series set in small towns. 50 years ago, the old school house burnt to the ground. The culprit was never found. Who did it?
This is another book from a team of writers, that has as their main character Sadie Speers. She is a retired history teacher, who now runs the antique shop in Silver Peak (a small old silver mine town), called the Antique Mine.
The team of writers have done a wonderful job...their stories just flow. And so many mysteries they seem to find for this town and Sadie always seems to end up helping solve the mystery! This one started out about an old schoolhouse that had burnt long ago, but still had the original bell from it's beginnings. Sadie and her friend Virginina were talked into giving a talk about the school and the old bell for a fundraiser dinner. They were in the midst of working on the presentation, when Virigina called one evening...heading towards Sadie's to tell her what she had found in her research and that she thought she had figured out who had set the fire! But unfortuntaly there was a car following her..and while they were talking Virginia ended up in a wreck. She was taken to the hospital, but was in a coma. So they couldn't find out anymore. So Sadie ends up investigating more to see if she can figure it out as well. And as you know....Sadie will figure it out!
I love the many characters they have included in the stories in this series. Plus her close knit friends and family, who are always involved in the mystery as well. Plus it's always fun to see if I can figure it out, before it's reveiled in the end of the story.
Another nice cozy mystery...published by Guideposts, so it also interweaves the Christian view throughout as well. Sadie prays for her friends, family and for clarification and truth. I recommend this series and look forward to more.
This book was so suspenseful! Virginia a friend of Sadie's is helping her research the history of the fire that burned down Silver Peak's first schoolhouse in 1965 for a fund raiser for the school. Virginia call Sadie and tells her that she knows who started the fire. She is driving to Sadie's house and the call keeps cutting in and out, and Virginia tells her that someone is following her. The next thing Sadie hears is a crash and the line goes dead. Virginia ends up in the hospital in a coma. So Sadie decides to find out what who ran Virginia off the road and who sent her a letter to stop looking into the school house fire. Also, Sadie has to now do the presentation by herself. Can Sadie figure out who burned the old school house down? This is a real page turner!
This is book #4 in a Guideposts Christian series that take place in Colorado. I like that the protagonist in this series is an older woman. They are nice cozy mysteries.
Sadie and her friend Virginia are putting together a presentation on the first school system in Silver Peak. The original school house mysteriously burned in 1965, only leaving behind the valuable silver bell. When Virginia discovers evidence that the fire may have been arson, she is on her way to tell Sadie when she's run off the road. Her car flips into a canyon and she is in a coma. Sadie follows clues, interviewing anyone mentioned in the newspapers at the time of the fire until she too realizes the answer.
The series is starting to get predictable. Also noted less communication with praying in this one. Throughout this and other Guidepost novels, I note a lot of error in the fact, proofreading was not done at all or very incompetently. It's frustrating to read a book with so many errors as these have been. This one was filled with them!
This is published by Guideposts so as a mystery it was pretty bland. No one died, no language, no romance, however: the story was believable and well written.
This story is a mystery about a fire that occurred decades ago. A girl, Sadie, was informed by her friend Virginia that this fire might not have been an accident. When Virginia is then suddenly ran off the road, Sadie realizes that the car accident was not an accident, it was someone trying to keep Virginia quiet. So Sadie tries to uncover the secrets of the past before it comes back to hurt them all. I love mysteries and think this was a great book. I recommend it to anyone who loves mysteries.
