Another 5 star read from Denise Hunter. I was excited to receive the ARC for her latest novel, Falling Into Us. It follows Gabby who is looking for her long lost grandmother. To her surprise, her mother on her deathbed revealed that her grandmother disowned her after getting pregnant at 19. Gabby has a lot of emotions to tackle - from her mom lying to her for her whole life, to honouring her request from her mom to deliver a letter to the grandmother. While in Gibson, where the grandmother last lived, Gabby finds comfort with her Airbnb host (and journalist), Mason.
The novel is filled with emotional trauma and finding family. Romance was sweet and the characters finely developed. A perfect romance read from the fabulous Denise Hunter. Releases October 2026.

This was a sweet, Christian romance! There isn’t necessarily anything about it that was ground breaking or addicting, but it was an enjoyable read overall.
I love the small town feel and the found family. Mason’s family is what dreams are made of! I liked the setting of the family farm too - honestly what I would love in my own life 😆
One tedious thing I didn’t like was the lack of identifying who was talking during dialogue. I had to go back at times to identify who started the conversation and do a process of elimination.
Overall, it’s exactly what you’d expect out of Christian fiction!

Gabby's mothers dying wish was for Gabby to deliver a letter to her estranged mother. Gabby had never met her grandmother, Rosemary, and was very resentful of how her mother was treated when she found herself pregnant.
Widower Mason Morrison is a reporter. And a landlord. Gabby rents his cabin for two days to locate her grandmother in North Carolina. Things don't go exactly as planned. Mason wants to help Gabby find her grandmother. A trail that ends up taking weeks. And in that time, a sweet romance starts to bloom.
This book is a heartfelt and emotional story. The characters felt so real. Gabby's issues with trust. Mason's guilty feelings over the death of his wife. Peyton, Mason's daughter, is such a sweet addition, hungry for a woman's touch. The Morrison family welcomes Gabby into the fold, even though they did not really know her. Grandmother Rosemary's cheerfulness in her surrounding. This is definitely a book you will enjoy.

This book was such a heartfelt, comforting read. Denise Hunter has a way of writing stories that feel like a warm hug, even when her characters are carrying heavy emotional baggage. I found myself completely invested in Gabby’s journey from the very beginning.
After her mother’s final wish sends her to the small town of Gibson in search of the grandmother she never met, Gabby is forced to face family secrets, unanswered questions and emotions she never expected. Along the way, she meets Mason, a kind hearted journalist and single father who quickly became one of my favorite characters. And can we talk about Peyton for a second? She completely stole the show for me! Every scene with her put a smile on my face.
I loved watching Gabby slowly find a sense of belonging in Mason’s family and the community. The romance was sweet, wholesome and full of tender moments, while the story also explored grief, forgiveness, loneliness and the idea that family isn’t always as simple as we think it is. It felt genuine without becoming overly heavy.
If I had one tiny complaint, it would be that the romance moved a little faster than I usually prefer. I tend to love a slow burn, so I would have happily spent a few more chapters watching Gabby and Mason fall for each other. Even so, their chemistry felt believable and I was rooting for them the entire time.
This was a cozy, emotional story that reminded me that healing often begins when we least expect it. Also… now I kind of want to move to a charming small town where everyone knows everyone and someone is always bringing pie.
If you’re looking for a heartwarming contemporary romance filled with lovable characters, small town charm, family secrets and a beautiful journey of healing, I definitely recommend adding Falling Into Us to your TBR before it releases on October 13, 2026.

Sweet as pie! A bunch of God”incidences” brought two hurting people together healing them creating a lovely family. Mason is now a single dad with a middle school daughter Peyton. He has been grieving for seven years and still can’t seem to stop blaming himself for his wife’s death. A grandma who drew a tough love line long ago kicking her daughter and grandchild from her world. This book is so good, full of hope and love.

This story follows the perspectives of both Gabby and Mason as they begin their coinciding journeys of forgiveness and healing. What begins as a quest for personal redemption turns into an interwoven journey of two seemingly disconnected families.
The setting is one of my favorite qualities of this book. Gabby is initially from Indianapolis, Indiana but travels to Gibson, North Carolina to track down her grandmother. When she arrives at the cabin, the scenery is deep in its Fall colors and Mason's family is preparing for this Fall Festival they host every year. Autumn is by far my favorite season with all the corn mazes, hay rides, pies, and all things pumpkin spice. Their farm being situated within the mountains, man, I could smell the spicy and crisp mountain air coming out of this book.
The most prevalent theme in this book that goes hand in hand with the low-key Christian messaging, is healing through redemption, love and faith. I say low-key Christian messaging due to it not being so in your face so I feel people who may not share the faith could enjoy this book. Both Gabby and Mason have been dealing with trauma from their past. This includes family rejection, family death, guilt, and regret. I though Denise did a great job with humanizing these characters as they are struggling with their inner turmoil. The decisions that are made, may be questionable to some, but are understandable given their own hesitancies and anxieties. These decisions not only effect themselves in their personal and family lives, but Gabby's relationship with Mason throughout the book.
Speaking of Gabby and Mason's relationship, the romance in this book was initially highly guarded by both parties. With that I mean that both characters clearly desired to explore romantic possibilities with the other, but again due to past experiences and current obligations, felt as though any relationship would end before it truly began. That being said, it only took one spark of attraction for these two to start changing their tunes. Particularly with Gabby's quest to posthumously redeem her mother through the letter to her biological grandmother. Mason ends up being quite helpful and supportive which allows Gabby to slowly trust once again.
I will say, there is a point in which a misunderstanding ensues in the last part of the book that I felt went on a bit too long even if it does lead to a happy conclusion. It could have been solved sooner if communication was used but understandably, emotions were at an all time high.
When it came to the main plot involving the grandmother, things do not quite turn out how Gabby was initially expecting. There are some unforeseen complications with being able to give her the letter. While I did enjoy this conflict since it forced Gabby to come to terms that sometimes healing and forgiveness does not look the way we expect, I was disappointed with the conclusion of that plot.
The romance takes the main seat at some point in the story which I did not mind. However, it led to, in my opinion, a hasty return to the grandma in a way that felt like an afterthought. Quite literally, Gabby mentions the eventual found relationship after it had actually happened. Likewise, there are multiple other conclusions to plotlines that are set up on page, that take place without the reader being present. It felt like having all the air escape out of a balloon after spending all that time blowing it up. I think the story would have felt more complete if the reader would have been present for those eventual conclusions.
All in all, I thought Falling Into Us was a pretty good contemporary romance with Christian themes and Southern charm. I would recommend anyone who enjoys Denise Hunter to give it a shot for sure.

There are certain promises inherent in picking up a Denise Hunter novel, and Falling Into Us delivers exactly what I expected: a wholesome, low/no-spice romance, mature characters, a picturesque small-town setting, complicated family relationships, and faith woven naturally into the characters’ everyday lives.
Gabby Donaldson is grieving the death of her mother when she sets out to fulfill one of her final requests: deliver a letter to Rosemary, the grandmother Gabby has never met. Gabby has always known that Rosemary disapproved when her mother became pregnant as a teenager and that the relationship between them was severed. What she doesn’t know until after her mother’s death is that Rosemary had tried to reconnect over the years, sending letters that went unanswered.
So Gabby heads to a quaint mountain town in North Carolina to deliver her mother’s letter—and this is where things get delightfully Hallmark-y.
She rents an Airbnb. Naturally, said Airbnb is owned by Mason, a handsome widowed dad with a precocious 12-year-old daughter named Peyton. Naturally, Gabby makes jewelry for a living and can conveniently work from this charming mountain town. And naturally, when delivering the letter becomes more complicated than Gabby anticipated, Mason happens to be a reporter who may be able to help.
You know where this train is headed. And you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
The romance between Gabby and Mason is pleasant rather than swoony or particularly surprising, and Gabby felt like the more developed of the two characters. Peyton falls somewhere between genuinely endearing and “precocious fictional 12-year-old,” but she adds some sweetness to the story. The real emotional weight comes from Gabby’s family history and the questions surrounding her mother and grandmother.
I also appreciate the way Hunter incorporates Christianity into her books. The characters pray, attend church, and openly reference their faith, but faith isn’t used as a heavy-handed plot device or turned into a sermon. It’s simply part of who these people are and how they move through the world, which feels natural.
Despite the cozy romance packaging, there are some heavier themes here, including grief, estranged family relationships, regret, aging, and health concerns. Still, this remains firmly in comforting-read territory. It wasn’t a book that had me frantically turning pages, nor is it doing anything particularly groundbreaking. It’s familiar, predictable, and very well executed—and sometimes there is real pleasure in getting exactly the book you expected.
Existing Denise Hunter readers should feel right at home, but I also think Falling Into Us would be a lovely entry point for someone curious about Christian or wholesome romance. It’s basically a Hallmark movie in book form, with a little more emotional weight and a gorgeous North Carolina mountain setting that had me ready to book an Airbnb of my own.
Another successful story from an author who clearly knows her audience—and knows how to deliver for them.

" Maybe the heart remembers what the mind doesn't."
Words cannot express how deeply this book touched my heart, how precious this book truly was to me. This book hit a sore spot in my heart, as my grandmother of 88 years died recently from Alzheimer's Disease. She was absolutely precious but most importantly she made sure we kids knew how important a true relationship with Jesus was! She never forgot Jesus!
I adores Rosemary and the relationship she had with our FMC. She was absolutely precious. I also loved the fact that she was a army Nurse! I love learning about our military.
Denise never fails at adding just the right amount of faith Content and once again she nailed it! I adored the relationship our MMC continued to have with her mother, I cannot imagine what it's like losing a mother. Especially at such a young age.
The romance was so beautifully done. I adored how both our MMC and FMC became aware that they loved one another! I just love love! It is so beautiful when it is done right! The make out scenes were also perfectly done with no spice.
Most of All I loved the healing! The healing in this book was so beautiful and I cried my eyes out! The character growth was so good. I loved how our FMC finally realized that she was perfect the way she was. She didn't have to change for anyone!
I also loved how our MMC figured out that he is not to blame for his wife's death and that mistakes happen. I love how they healed one another.
This is definitely a book I would buy just to read again and again! Well done Denise hunter 👏 well done!!
Words cannot express how deeply this book touched my heart, how precious this book truly was to me. This book hit a sore spot in my heart, as my grandmother of 88 years died recently from Alzheimer's Disease. She was absolutely precious but most importantly she made sure we kids knew how important a true relationship with Jesus was! She never forgot Jesus!
I adores Rosemary and the relationship she had with our FMC. She was absolutely precious. I also loved the fact that she was a army Nurse! I love learning about our military.
Denise never fails at adding just the right amount of faith Content and once again she nailed it! I adored the relationship our MMC continued to have with her mother, I cannot imagine what it's like losing a mother. Especially at such a young age.
The romance was so beautifully done. I adored how both our MMC and FMC became aware that they loved one another! I just love love! It is so beautiful when it is done right! The make out scenes were also perfectly done with no spice.

This is the my first time reading Denise Hunter’s books and it definitely won’t be my last. This book follows Gabby who is trying to fulfill her mother’s last wish by delivering a letter to her grandma from whom her mother was estranged. But when she is unable to locate her grandma, she is offered help from Mason who is a journalist and single dad in exchange for his permission to tell her story.
I really loved Gabby and Mason together…..they were so adorable. I really loved the way grief was portrayed in this book. The way how both Mason and Gabby move on after losing the people they loved was inspiring. i really loved Peyton and her quirkiness.
I also really loved the family vibes. The way each of the Morrisons’ care for each other was really cute. I also loved the reconciliation between Gabby and her grandmother. I really did not like Gabby’s father. He was the reason for her trust issues.
The only thing I did not like in this book was how long the third act breakup happened. I know that the breakup was necessary but the amount of time it took for them to reconcile bothered me a bit. Other than that I really enjoyed this book.

I loved this read! I knew from the very start it was a good one and had my attention. The characters are great and really draw you in to their lives.
Our main character, Gabby, is on a quest to find an unknown until now grandmother. So she travels to North Carolina to do her search. I have to say, the descriptions of the fall, hills, mountains are wonderful. I could really see it. As she settles in, she meets her landlord, Mason. It's a funny meet, I'll leave it at that. He is very likeable also as his family that we meet further in.
There's mystery to this story along with lots of feelings. All justified and relatable. One of my very favorite stories involved "see me" but I won't spoil.
An easy, lovely read that lifts you and brings lots of feeling.

At its core, this is a story of family dynamics. The book opens with Gabby heading out of town to track down her estranged grandmother -her mother’s dying wish. Along the way, she meets Mason, the Airbnb owner, and a single dad, who’s struggling to let go of the guilt and grief of losing his wife. I was particularly intrigued by the relationship Gabby forms with Mason’s daughter. Both girls are mourning their mom’s, but it’s an interesting comparison to see Peyton with large family, and no mother, while Gabby was raised with only a mother and no other family.
When Gabby and Mason first met, I thought I had the storyline all worked out. I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected turns that happened throughout. While some books add in unnecessary dramatic scenes to keep the reader hooked, Denise Hunter finds a way to help the characters naturally progress.
This was such a fun read. The characters were varied and enjoyable, even with their own unique flaws.

Denise Hunter is one of those authors whose books are an auto-read for me. I know each time I pick one up that I am in for a romance that is going to take me through all the emotions... in the very best way possible. This one was certainly no exception. Mason and Gabby got off to a bit of a rough start, but as they work together to find the grandmother she has never met, it doesn't take long for sparks to fly. Both of these characters had experienced loss in their lives that had affected them greatly, him with his late wife and her with her mother, and I loved the sense of healing this story brought for both. With family secrets to be uncovered and unexpected twists, this story kept me intrigued to the end. It was a great blend of romance, a sense of family and a hint of mystery as well. If you're looking for a heartfelt romance that feels like coming home, this is certainly one to check out.

I read the blurb and was intrigued and thought why not, give it a try. I read a few books by this author and I like her style and writing.

I'm always super excited to see a new Denise Hunter book being published! She has become one of my favorite authors and one that I always recommend to friends. Hunter's latest novel, Falling Into Us, is a sweet Hallmark-style story with a handsome journalist and a beautiful 30-year-old coming to town to find her long lost grandmother. Falling Into Us delivers all the makings of a cherished romance novel with love, family, angst, forgiveness, and reconciliation. However, this story felt a little rushed to me - I would have loved to see more a slower burn with the main characters than the quick fall in love. In spite of that, it was a good story in a beautiful setting.. Fans of Denise Hunter won't be disappointed. A solid 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book! My husband and I got his parents diagnosed with dementia in February 2025.I wanted to move them in a nursing home because they’d both had multiple falls.My father in law suffered a stroke in April 2024.My mother in law was hospitalized in Indianapolis multiple times after her falls because they resulted in brain bleeds.My in laws wouldn’t move to a nursing home and my mother in law fell again in July 2025.She suffered another brain bleed and it ended up killing her. My husband and I saw a lawyer a couple weeks ago and talked to him about getting guardianship over my father in law.I’m sure he probably won’t want that anymore than he wanted to go to a nursing home.This book talked about a lot of things my husband and I are dealing with in real life!!

Loved this story of Gabby Donaldson who was traveling to Gibson , North Carolina to find the grandmother she had never met to give her a letter had left for her to deliver while on her death bed. Off Gabby went on a journey to find her. The night she arrived she lost the key to the Airbub and had to call the owner. Mason came with the key and killed a spider. She found out he worked for the newspaper. It seemed he might be able to help her because she didn't have much to go on. Follow their journey as they follow leads but it takes a while to get the right one. See what she is up against and how it all works out. A GREAT READ>

This is yet another can’t-put-down sweet romance by Denice Hunter! My favorite part was how Gabby and Mason met—it was a laugh-out-loud scene! I loved the premise of the story: Gabby has to deliver a final letter to her grandmother but has no idea where the woman lives. That starts a sweet partnership between the hero and heroine. Gabby then becomes intertwined with Mason and his life, including his preteen daughter, who needs someone exactly like Gabby. And Mason’s family—I want to have dinner with them! They are so loving and caring, and they seem like so much fun! This was an amazing read, pick up your copy today!

I enjoyed the setting of the mountains of North Carolina for this new stand-alone novel by Denise Hunter. The characters are wonderful, and the relationships between them are heart-warming. Several characters have old hurts that need healing as they learn about themselves, their pasts, and how family love can make a difference. I had a hard time putting the book down!

I love Denise Hunter and have read many of her books this one started off a bit slow but once I started learning about the characters and getting into the heart of the story, I didn’t want to put it down. I can always count on Denise for heartfelt storylines, interesting characters (of all ages), squeaky clean romance and laugh out loud moments. I always look forward to reading them and this one didn’t disappoint.

Emotional, heartwarming, heart wrenching, entertaining. All good words to describe Falling Into Us. Gabby and Mason both have experienced death, deal with feelings of misplaced guilt, and are afraid to open their hearts. But then they met each other, and nothing is easy or clear-cut. Family relationships, connections, trust, and forgiveness are all elements that are part of their journey.
