Sheriff Emmett Love thought he had his hands full with two witches, two wives, Hopeful Harold, and a passel of flirty, determined women who won’t take no for an answer. But when a mysterious man shows up in Dodge City, unannounced, things really get crazy!

Preliminary

I loved it! I absolutely loved it!

You buy your ticket with no idea where John will take the story, but you’re always glad to ride the ride.

Locke’s Rag Soup recipe is a perfect blend of winning blistering pace; authentic dialog; crazy characters; improbable situations, non-stop humor; plot twists galore; and big-hearted, good-natured fun.

An interesting story. Not the best form this author. Reads more like "I need to keep the money coming in" kind of book. The first third was excellent.....the remainder, not so much.

Awesome!

Always entertaining. Really good short read. The old west is interesting and John brings it to life. Emmet Love is such a lovable character.

The thing you know you're going to get with a John Locke book is twists and turns and this book was no different.

If you're looking at this book as your first John Locke book, stop. Now, don't get me wrong, you could buy this book and have a great reading experience but I would recommend going a different route. This author has a number of books available and a couple different series. One thing that I really enjoy about this author is that each series stands on its own but are also all tied together. If your main interest is just in western themed books then I would start at the beginning of this series, however if your into other genres then I would start where I did. I started with the Donavon Creed series. I don't remember the exact book in that series but you will get to a point that had me jumping over to the Dr. Box series then back and then again into the Emmett Love series because they're all tied together, each is a great read but you get more of the story filled in with each.

I'm not really going to go into this particular book other than to say if you’re a fan then trust me get it and enjoy it like you have the others. If you’re new then, welcome but start at the beginning of this series or the Donavon Creed series.

Is there ever an easy day in Doge City? Not hardly but this book takes that to new levels. Emmett, Poor lovable, honorable Emmett. How does one of the most valuable commodities in the west, a Dentist turn into a hurricane of chaos?

What do an almost 5 year old girl and a man's head spontaneously exploding on fire have in common?

A beauty contest? In Doge City?

How does the Latin phrase Habeas Corpus cause the death of 5 people?

Want to read it right? Its ok go ahead. You'll enjoy it just like I did.

I love John Locke's books. This is a westen in his Emmett Love series and two things really stand out: his original turns of phrase and the humor--neither one of which you normally associate with westerns.

Early on, the narrator suffers a leg injury and states that he expects it to hurt for at least six more chapters.

He can also be puckish with his character's names. Love's sidekick of sorts is named Wayne, from the town of Newton, so people call him Wayne Newton. Another person questions the name Emmett Love, saying I suppose you'll be saying you're Bob Hope next (keeping in mind this is the mid 1800s).

It's a fine series, and fun.

This series is one of the few books that make me laugh out loud while reading. Some of the one liners are unique...

"If you puked six gallons of vomit into a shithouse pit and marinated a dead body in it for six weeks it wouldn’t smell as bad as whatever’s goin’ on in the back of Louis’s wagon."

Thanks again Mr Locke.

Another great story

After Emmet and Gentry I thought, good end to a great story line. Then Rag Soup showed up. The wit and story was as good as ever. If you haven't read the previous books I urge you to as the story is that good. I hope there is another, but if not - I am glad to have read them. Great reading!

Not quite as enjoyable as the fourth in the series (Goodbye, Enorma), but still a quite fun book to read.

Good quick read but with some substance too.

Cleverly written. I liked the truth of the old West and straight talk dialogue. Lots of smiles and some outright laughter.

I think this is the best one in the series. Emmett has more women problems than he can handle. And a daughter he is scared of. Great book; you need to pick this one up.
