From the very first page of The Echo Below, I was completely hooked. Isla is intriguing from the start, and the mystery surrounding her begins almost immediately. I found myself unable to put the book down, desperate to understand what was happening to her and where her journey would lead. That sense of urgency and curiosity carries beautifully through the entire story.

One of my favorite aspects of the novel is how seamlessly the sea is woven into every layer of the narrative. It isn’t just a backdrop—it feels alive, present in the emotions, the tension, and the atmosphere of the story. The descriptions are vivid and immersive, capturing the beauty, power, and unpredictability of the ocean in a way that makes you feel as though you’re standing on the shore yourself. The imagery is simply stunning.

The love story is another highlight. Sweet, tender, and genuinely heartwarming, it adds a softness to the mystery and depth to Isla’s journey. It feels authentic and adorable without ever overshadowing the larger story unfolding around it.

Heather Cavill’s writing is brilliant and eloquent throughout. Her prose flows effortlessly, balancing suspense, emotion, and rich description with remarkable skill. The Echo Below is a beautifully crafted novel that lingers long after you turn the final page.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves atmospheric storytelling, compelling mysteries, and a love story that feels both tender and true.

This beautiful debut novel blends mysticism and folklore with modern-day romance and a relatable cast of quirky yet endearing small-town characters, serving as a love letter to the ocean and to the tight-knit communities that form along its shores. For anyone who feels rooted to the coast, the ties that bind us to the ocean are undeniable, and this is a story that illuminates just how deeply those connections can run. Heather Cavill’s vivid imagery and immersive descriptions had me hooked from the first few pages, and kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning as the story evolved from a tale of homecoming and self-discovery to include themes of grief, belonging, and the struggles of navigating complex family secrets.

By reshaping a traditional siren’s tale into something fresh and contemporary, Cavill tells a story that feels timeless and familiar without becoming predictable. The sea maintains a constant, haunting presence that sets a delightfully unsettling tone, while the characters’ raw vulnerability and subtle humour add warmth and balance. The sweet, slow-burning romance delivers just the right amount of spice, and I found it difficult to say goodbye to these characters when the story ended. This is a story that lingers, a definite five-star read for me, and I’m eager to see what Cavill writes next!

I seriously loved The Echo Below by Heather Cavill. It completely pulled me in from the start. Isla heading back to her coastal hometown after her grandmother disappears had me hooked right away, and the family secrets unfolding kept me turning pages.
The romance is sweet and real, but honestly, the best part for me was Isla’s almost-mystical connection to the sea. It gives the whole story this moody, magical vibe without feeling over the top. I didn’t want it to end — it’s one of those books that just stays with you.

I absolutely loved The Echo Below. Cavill has delivered a beautifully written tale of love, family secrets and the mysterious power of the sea. I was hooked by the endearing characters that are tender and real; and by the relatable yet complex relationships found in a small town with a long history. I couldn’t put it down, truly a delight to read, eagerly anticipating more from Cavill.
