Kid doesn't remember his parents, but all the other farm animals tell him that they were the bravest goats ever. They left on a daring adventure when he was just a baby, and Kid has always believed they were simply too busy adventuring to return - though one day, he's sure, they'll come looking for him.

But then Kid learns about Farm Law. Enforced by the terrifying ruler of the farm, Ma, the law forbids any animal who crosses the fence from ever coming back.

Certain his parents are waiting for him, Kid decides to go on an adventure of his own. Along with his best friend, Harriet the Pig, and Audrey, the kindly chicken who raised him, he ventures beyond the farm fence. But the wild is unfamiliar and unpredictable, and may push even the bravest little goat to his limits...
