When the Jensen boys decide to take a trip to Smoke Jensen's ranch -- leaving Sally, Pearle, and Cal alone at the Sugarloaf -- the family homestead becomes an easy target for enemies, outlaws, and one hell of a hardcase named Jonas Trask. A former army doctor with a degree in cruelty, Trask and his vicious band of followers kidnap Sally Jensen. Now, he waits for the Jensen boys to return, like lambs to slaughter. It doesn't take long for Matt, Preacher, Luke, and Smoke to see that they're up against a vicious maniac. One thing is sure: the Jensens will perform the operation with surgical precision, blazing guns, and not a shred of mercy ...

Another in the Family Jensen series, with the Jensen men and Preacher. An evil man and his army of outlaws take over and hold hostage Smoke’s ranch and the nearby town of Big Rock. The Jensen family have to go against exorbitant odds to free the town and ranch. I loved the story as I usually do.
Crazies Crazy thoughts from a medical man, who wants to create a gang of Zombies to do his bidding. His name is Dr. Trask and he wants Smoke's Jensen's brain to use as a study to transfer Smoke's brain tissue in other men. That way he can control them to do his will. Sounds like the "Island of Dr. Moreau,"right, creepy right?? Will Dr.Trask told Smoke what he was going to do, Smoke was probably saying "what the hell," and people in Hell want ice water too. As all Smoke Jensen's adventures this should be number one, Sci-Fi comes to Sugar Loaf Ranch and the town of Rock Hill, doggone ain't this a hot mess to deal with. This Dr. Trask and ex-Major Pike felt he owed his life to Dr. Trask because he saved Pike 's leg which had been wounded with mini-ball and usually this resulted in the loss of a limb which was prevalent during the Confederate War. All I will say is, ENJOY as Smoke, Preacher, Matt, Cal, Pearlie load them up. Can't forget Sally and Dog, it's everyone fighting for their lives and others. Like we all know, life on the Frontier was rough and unforgiving to those who fought the good fight for peace and justice for all.
I am addicted to these western novels by William Johnstone as they always provide an incredible adventure that always turns out good for those on the right side of the law. The bad guys always get their due, and everyone lives happily ever after until the next adventure is encountered. Here a mad doctor takes over the entire town near Smoke's ranch and attempts to capture Smoke so the doctor can get a look at his brain. They try to take over Smoke's ranch while he is away and take Smoke's wife hostage. This is a great adventure, and when Smoke, Matt, and Preacher arrive to find the situation existing and take measures to make things right. It is one novel that is hard to put down.
In the final book of the series "The Family Jensen" a mad genius - doctor Trask takes over Smoke Jensen's ranch, the Sugarloaf and the nearby town along with all the inhabitants. All but Smoke's wife - Sally. However, even trying to mess with Smoke is enough to bring all hell loose on your head and doctor Trask is going to experience this first hand.
All books from the series were classics and brought me back to my teen years. I will definitely come back to Smoke, Matt and Preacher some time soon.
After saving Luke, the foursome (Preacher, Luke, Matt, and Smoke) head slowly to Sugarloaf, Smoke's ranch. Matt gets the itch and heads off on his own. Just as they get into Big Rock, Preacher stops and says something ain't right and that is when the fun begins. The trio learns that the town has been taken over by Jonas Trask and his gang and they have also taken over the Sugarloaf ranch. There will be hell to pay and the payee his Smoke and his bunch of heroes.
Wow! It is the first word I said as I reached The End. Hubby and I enjoy all this authors books and this is no exception. From kidnapping to conquering a town and then taking of Smoke Jensen’s ranch, it is action. I love Preacher and any book with him and/or Smoke is the best. Thanks for a great story.
Another Great William Johnstone book I loved it until the very end. Just buy the book and read every word until the end the go looking for the next William Johnstone book to read. God Bless Y'alls
This one had an odd story line, but it was an alright listen. It is interesting to have the whole family involved, but I don't enjoy the characters that much. Certain characters like perly are great. The story was just alright.
I just can't seem to get enough Smoke Jensen!!! Even though William W Johnstone is no longer with us, I'm glad they are still publishing his manuscripts. It's also good to see Smoke, Luke, Matt and Preacher together again!!
As usual I was involved in the very story of what was happening. I was right there watching what was taking place. I love stories that take me as a participant and to mentally participate. I am so happy that I have found an equal to L’Lamour!!
I thought the book was wonderfully written. Smoke was a tough person who loves his wife and that's why he gave himself up. At the same time he was smart about his decisions.
A wonderful read! The Jensen family never disappoints. In this tale, a doctor, a major and a small army of outlaws attempts to tree Big Rock and the Sugarloaf. With a nefarious plot in mind, Smoke, Matt and Preacher must come together to battle the odds and get to the bottom of Jonas Trasks' plans.
Lots of action, intrigue and a bit of humor thrown in created a perfect Western tale. Matt, Smoke and Preacher are so well known to fans, reading their adventures one feels they are right in the action too, with old friends - or even family. Very entertaining to read the family Jensen coming together and doing what they do best.
I read this book some time ago. It is your typical Smoke Jensen Story. Yes we all know they are basically ''recipe'' books and you can predict what is going to happen next. But they are always quick reads and entertaining.
Pretty sure this reminds me of a movie I saw once, but no matter, I enjoyed it.
We need more western writers out there and should be happy that these books are being written.
As usual a great read. I love that Smoke,Preacher and Matt was all together in this book. Smoke was in a fight for his life in this book. But all is well at the end. Well worth a read. It is almost impossible to put this book down.
