One More Fight: A Romantic Suspense Novel

Rate this book
Adelaide Barnes never forgave Fletcher Ward for leaving her behind.

Once, he was the love of her life. Then he abandoned her at her lowest point, and later turned their painful history into a bestselling novel that made her the villain.

Now Fletcher has fame, fortune, and a movie deal, but none of it has erased the guilt he carries for losing Adelaide.

When a bank robbery leaves them trapped together as hostages, the exes are forced to confront the heartbreak, betrayal, and lingering desire they thought they’d buried. As danger mounts, so does the chemistry between them.

But some wounds don’t heal easily, and some apologies come too late.

With the past closing in and survival uncertain, Adelaide and Fletcher must decide whether love deserves one more fight.

One More Fight is a romantic suspense novel featuring second chance romance, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, celebrity romance, and exes who can’t outrun their past.

One More Fight is a perfect depiction of how trauma can shape a person, both when experiencing said trauma first-hand or when living with it as a loved-one. Adelaide and Fletcher are both incredibly written; flawed, broken, but not beyond repair. This book depicts that journey into (self)healing beautifully.
As a drama reader and author, I enjoyed that aspect of the book more than the romance part, but this story is honestly for everyone.
There's great rep of an LGBTQ+ character, of friendship that can 100% stay just that. Most importantly, the mentioned real-life attack was handled with care and respect, which can be tricky to do, so I applaud Alex for the way she depicted this moment and the aftermath.

This story is beautifully written and really stayed with me after I finished it. I loved how the author showed the emotional depth between Adelaide and Fletcher. Their relationship felt real, messy, and full of history. One of my favorite moments was when Fletcher read the letter he had written for her. That scene was so touching and heartfelt that I honestly had tears in my eyes. The way he confessed his feelings through that letter was written so beautifully.
The mix of romance and suspense kept me hooked, especially with the hostage situation bringing them back together in such an intense way. It added tension but also gave them the space to face their past and everything they had been avoiding. I really liked how the story focused on second chances. Sometimes love does deserve another try, especially when feelings run so deep. It also shows that not everything is black and white, and sometimes people just make mistakes or circumstances pull them apart.
Overall, I truly enjoyed reading this book. It is emotional, gripping, and full of heart. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves second chance romance with a bit of drama and suspense.

Great second chance romance that started off in a really bad place. Ade and Fletcher were no longer. She wrote a book, became the villain, and Fletcher reaped the rewards and caught fortune and fame. Seems really messed up. The two of them come together again in the most unconventional way. They’re both held hostage during a bank robbery…i guess those kinds of moments tend to do things to people. Cuz next thing you know, they’re making up and wanting to rekindle their romance again. This was a very original way to go about a story. But it was definitely worth reading.

A woman walks into a bank and runs into the one man she truly hates. Then the bank gets held up by robbers, leaving her stuck inside with him. Oh great. While Adelaide and Fletcher were trapped together, memories of their past life come to the surface.

The narrative was simple and mildly interesting. You could tell it was aiming for a lyrical sense. It was pretty slow and hearing the diary prose of both characters only made it slower and longer. I wish it didn’t have to dive so deeply into their past. I thought the back-to-back dialogue in the present was better and we could’ve easily learned of their past through that instead. The whole thing was a constant shift between present and past, which can only work when learning of the past becomes relevant to the story. I mean, hearing the origin of Adelaide’s bisexuality didn’t seem relevant. Yes, her sexuality led to a threesome and a surprise pregnancy, which were all titillating. Of course, the past did present some good drama, complexity, and tender moments that readers will get a kick out of. For me, it was just a little too much. I understand that the past was meant to detail their long romantic history, but a little brevity could’ve gone a long way. Sometimes less is more.

Quite frankly, I was much more interested in the dire predicament that they were in. The reader will get to know a love story while wondering if they have a future together. Somewhat appealing, sure. For me, I guess I prefer a simpler and lighthearted story, and I would definitely like more suspense. This had too much soap opera drama for my taste. But others might enjoy that drama. A fairly nice read altogether.

“The tinking of the pop-rock through the radio stop abruptly, like the end of a crescendo, but without the climax. Instead, the beat becomes the fear running through my bloodstream that's pulsing in my ears.”

One more fight is an explosive cocktail. Get ready for it and be warned!
It’s the fight between the unresolved past and the future. Imagine yourself trapped in a bank robbery with someone you don’t want to be with. Familiar to the author’s previous works, I knew I will fall in love with this book.

I love Adelaide for opening up so well about her bisexuality, how she comes to accept it, and what reaction she has to it. Something usually people don’t go deep into, but once again the author does not shy away from it, like she delivered an unfiltered, realist female character.

Then there is Fletcher and what’s not to love about him? He is funny; there is also a deep trauma in him and how he overcame it all. His character arc was one of the best in the book; he went through having it all and losing it all to understand it all with an enemy hidden in plain sight.

This book kept me on edge, asking me to think, but overall it’s a lesson in survival and choosing wisely what one has to do and its consequences.

I highly recommend this book and all the rest of this courageous author’s list of work.

What an amazing plot! To be thrown straight into a perilous bank robbery with two characters you are immediately screaming at to get back together - incredible. I love it. I ate it up.

This book is a romantic suspense, second chance romance about a famous author the the one that got away. The writing is excellent. The language is diverse and interesting, the dialogue quick and realistic and the descriptions easy to picture.

Furthermore, the book addresses trauma and PTSD in a refreshingly honest and brutal way. It feels gritty and real and raw - just like trauma. So much was brave about this book and I admire Alexandra for fearlessly tackling such complex issues and detailing, so beautifully, a horrible terrorist attack. Not only that, but the portrayal of bisexuality was important and interesting.

I am excited to see what she writes next!

If you like romance with plot - give this one a go, you won't be disappointed.

For me as a dyslexic, the slight and personal feedback I would give would be that the name Adelaide threw me off because the book is set in the UK and Australia. Also, as much as I enjoyed the dive into the trauma in the second half of the book, I was a bit hung over from the amazing action scenes at the start.

'But with danger rising around them, they’ll have to decide whether the love they lost is worth fighting for.'

The characters were very well written. Plot was intriguing. World building was solidly drawn. All in all a very good read. Recommend.
