This story lives up to its title. There were several moments when I wanted to jump into the book and shake both the FMC and MMC because their decisions had me stressed.
That says a lot about the author's storytelling. When characters can frustrate you and still keep you emotionally invested, you know the author did something right.
The story follows Elohor, a talented athlete who constantly wins on the track even though it is not the life she truly wants, and Ifeanyi, a charming but entitled last born who refuses to take life seriously. There is also Odafe, a wealthy man who seems perfect on paper but whose interest in Elohor feels more like control than love.
What I appreciated most about this book is how real the characters felt. They are flawed, and human, which made their choices and relationships feel believable.
The story started a little slow for me, but once it found its rhythm, it became very engaging.
I also loved the strong presence of family throughout the story and how those relationships shaped the characters and their decisions.
Overall, this was an engaging read with complex characters and some really valuable life lessons. I recommend.
This isn’t just romance. It’s ambition, grief, pressure, secrets, and emotional chaos.
Elohor wants Olympic gold and swears love won’t distract her… but life had other plans.Elohor pissed me off. She kept making decisions that had me staring at the wall like, “Why are you like this?” But that’s also what made the story hit.
She’s not a perfect FMC. She’s ambitious but vulnerable. Strong but flawed.
Odafe is intense and calculated. Ifeanyi is charming but complicated.
The drama builds slowly and then boom- consequences everywhere.
Nigerian romance at its finest! Elohor's chasing Olympic dreams, but Odafe and Ifeanyi crash in. 💭 Odafe's wealthy, charming, and used to getting his way 😤. Ifeanyi's quiet, magnetic, and sees right through Elohor's walls 😎.
🔥 When Odafe proposes, Ifeanyi says "Still irrelevant" 🤣. When Odafe's like "I'm Odafe Odiete, son of Olorogun Daniel Odiete", Ifeanyi's all "Still irrelevant" 😂. Yep, he's not playing about Elohor!
💔 Complex relationships, Nigerian culture, and feels that'll twist you up. Elohor's torn between ambition and heart(s). Will she choose her dreams or love? 🔥
💪 "Ambition and love aren't mutually exclusive, but balancing them requires vulnerability." Truer words 🤑.
4.5/5 stars - couldn't put it down! 😊 Would love to see more Nigerian romance like this 💖.
Thank you Nky for the ARC! Loved giving this review 😊 Can't wait to see beautiful reactions written by others..
From the very first page, Twisted pulls you into a web you cannot easily escape. True to its name, the story keeps you turning corners you didn’t expect. At the center of it all are three strong-willed and determined characters - Elor, Odafe, and Ifeanyi - each determined to emerge the winner in the dangerous game of love that binds them together.
Elor has spent her life chasing a dream that was never really hers. Determined to make her parents proud, she pushes forward, despite hating every moment of it until a deep level of betrayal perpetrated by a close friend forced her out of the game and into the arms of a definite distraction in the form of Ifeanyi. Irresistible, and impossible to ignore, Ifeanyi is the addictive poison she shouldn’t have… but desperately needs.
Ifeanyi is a typical playboy , unattached and always in control but his life changes the moment he becomes captivated by the sight of a young woman who jogs past his home every morning on her way to the training ground. When fate grants him a chance meeting with her, he realizes that holding on to this rare and special gift may require something far more dangerous - stepping further onto a dark path that leads to nothing but destruction. He soon finds out life has a way of teaching its hardest lesson the brutal way.
Odafe, Oh God! No one should have him as an enemy, otherwise that person is dead-meat. At first, I was mildly irritated by his high level of arrogance and the wealth he threw around as if na him papa owns the world until I realise the kind of evil this man is capable of. I doff cap for this he-devil.
It is a must-read story for young adults. It is a story of a love triangle, second chance, the world of Athletics, smuggling and adoption. The Author did a great job, describing the world of Athletic and I could almost feel the emotions, the beating heartbeats and roaring sounds of victory or the cries of defeat. Well done , Nky!
Tighten your seat belt and get ready for the rollercoaster of emotion you are going to experience. The story will definitely leave you in a Twist!
As the title says, Twisted truly lives up to its name. The story perfectly reflects how complicated and tangled the characters. lives become because of the questionable decisions they make and the consequences that follow.
Elohor honestly stressed me out while reading this book. I couldn’t understand why she was so determined to please her family without thinking about her own happiness. But in the end, I was glad she finally got the life she truly wanted.
Ifeanyi was another character that made me want to smack his head at some point. But as I kept reading, I realized he was simply being human (flawed, confused, and learning from his mistakes). His redemption arc was not rushed and that made me appreciate his character even more. As for Odafe… I honestly have no words for him. God will judge him for me because I don’t have the strength 😂.
One thing I really loved about this book was how flawed the characters were. Their imperfections made them feel real and human. I also appreciated that the author didn’t rush Ifeanyi’s redemption. It showed that real change takes time and often comes from personal experiences and growth.
The author also explored the miscommunication trope, and while it was definitely stressful, it was still worth the emotional ride.
Overall, the writing style was good, the characters were well developed and I definitely recommend this book.
Twisted is beautifully written and features some really amazing tropes.
The story follows Elohor, an aspiring Olympian, and Ifeanyi, and their love story is executed so well. At first, I had issues with Ifeanyi, but as the story progressed, I ended up really loving him.
Elohor makes some questionable decisions at times, and there were moments when I just wanted to knock some sense into her, but her character was still written so well that I couldn’t help but root for her.
At several points, I was practically screaming, “Just explain things to each other!” But what really stood out was Elohor’s relationship with Kevwe — it was so heartwarming and genuine.
I have a long list of characters in this book that I want to throw heads at, and I’m sure you’ll feel the same after reading it.
