Between deadly attacks and a surprise betrothal(unfortunately, not to my hot ex-boss), I am not getting as much reading time as I’d like this summer.
Hi, I’m Cammie. I’m a bookworm living in a bona fide castle owned by Nic, the man I’m in major like with, I’m a dragonshifter with frankly unpredictable powers, and I keep getting caught in random attacks from dangerous mythicals intent on taking out my friends and me.
But all of that takes a backseat when I wake up one night to a burning pain and find I’m locked into a magical betrothal with the prince of the Ruby dragon clan—the clan we suspect is behind the attacks.
Now I’m racing against the clock: I need to figure out exactly what’s fueling my magic, find who triggered this betrothal spell, and discover if the Ruby clan is actually a threat to everyone I hold dear.
If I don’t, it’s do or die: do marry the Ruby heir, or quite literally die.
Yikes.
And to top it off, I strongly suspect I’m tipping from ‘major like’ into ‘true love’ with Nic—which is scarier than either option.
Bookwyrm Deceptions is the second book in a cozy romantic urban fantasy trilogy for fans of Shari Tapscott, KM Shea, and Kenley Davidson. If you love found family, animal companions, and clean romance, dive in today!
BOOKWYRM DECEPTIONS!!!! Y’all have no idea how much I love this trilogy so far. The characters, the companionship, the slowest-burn sweet romance, the references. All of it feels incredibly cozy and comforting while still having danger and feuds.
Cammie’s inner dialogue is hilarious and relatable. She’s a little bit oblivious when it comes to Nic but that just makes me love her more (even while I’m wanting to shake her and say “Can’t you see it?!”). I loved watching her integrate into her new little found family even more fully than the first book. NIC!!! Oh, how I love him. My sweet and dangerous boy. I adore every scene with him. His gentle and teasing nature is perfect for Cammie. Also, I loved the whole found-family group.
There are some seriously conniving characters in this series and a lot of whodunnit. Some of the events made me go, “WHAT???”. Overall, I really, really loved this book. *wipes tear from corner of eye and shakily asks* Book three?
Thank you to Constance Lopez for an ARC of Bookwyrm Deceptions! All opinions are my own.
I absolutely love when the sequel can keep the slow burn going without feeling dragged out. And that’s exactly what happed here! Loved it! There’s more action in this one, we get some answers to some questions, some new questions arise that make near impossible to wait for the next one. Ahh!
Only complaint was that one of my least favorite things happened. Without giving away anything too specific there is a moment when Cammie is told by someone essentially “do want I want or else” and without a fight Cammie is like okay no other options and I won’t tell anyone that I SHOULD TRUST (though she gets mildly upset about not being trusted 😩) ….i almost stopped right there. I wanted like a John Wick moment of I will destroy you if you try, or at least some scheming to get outta that and fight. So sadly one star off for that.
But I loved everything else, love where the story is going, still absolutely love the world building. Super pumped for the next one.
Content: no spice, no swearing, so non descriptive violence.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second instalment in The Book Hoard Collective and it didn’t disappoint! It was action packed and engaging with many moments of humor also (generally at Cammie’s awkwardness 😂). Love these characters so much! Can’t wait for the next one 🙃
Side note: Soo many moments though where I wanted to shout at Cammie to not be so blind but it made sense that she thought the way she did it was just borderline frustrating. Glad mostly everything is out in the open now! I really don’t like when there is a lack of communication between the main characters where communication would mean solving the problem though 😬 so that’s why it grated on me when she was so misinformed! We got there in the end. And I love all these characters so I’m not upset haha.
Ok, so THIS is how you write a sequel! Constance style! Not only do I love this series, I love the humour! Which starts on page 1..."I’m really in abysmal shape. This is made extra embarrassing by the fact that I’m a dragon shifter" To understand this, you'd need to read the previous book, which captivated me from word 1! And blow me down, THIS book did exactly the same! I expected this book to be on a par with the previous one, this IS a Constance Lopez book....but shoot me full of feathers, this book was even better....
Constance does swoon with such aplomb, I have to wipe the drool from my mouth and force my curled toes to uncurl. You wanna know why? Nic is why! He has completely bewitched me, everything he does, everything he says, turns me into a swoony giggling schoolgirl. So, I fully agree with Cammie, "when Nic chuckles, it’s a disgustingly delicious sound", HE'S delicious! With every thought surrounding Nic swimming around Cammie's head, I was nodding vigorously in agreement, "my brain is melting under this searing smile he’s giving me." So, what makes you think both Cammie and I have it BAD for Nic? He's perfection, pure and simple! I do love the way the author does the tug and release with this relationship. Although obvious to us mere mortals, Cammie and Nic skirt around each other as though they were dragon eggs beneath them, neither reaching out to grasp what's in front of them.
Cammie, bless her dragon heart, is in a major conundrum, to access her powers she needs magic, but to get that, she needs to grow her hoard, much like a catch 22 situation. And just to complicate matters more, this THING she has going on with Maximilian sends her spiralling... Yeah, I'm certain my neighbours heard my swearing...And then there's the THING she feels for Nic... to which, she's so totally oblivious, it borders on comical, well, that is, if the other situation wasn't as dire as it is. Very VERY dire! I had so many theories competing in my head about this particular situation. There's so much going on, so much action, I felt as though I was watching an exciting tennis finals match, my eyes darting furiously across the pages, until an errant ball hit me square between the eyes... like whoa! Extra WHOA was how the author spun me 360 when Cammie soared to new heights.... And then, yes, I get another ball tossed straight at me! Oh you have no idea the twists Constance concocts, suffice to say, unhinging jaw material! My word and stars, this went from one calamity to the next, this went from one attack to the next, this went from anguish to agony, from despair to joy, all within 250 odd pages! Yep, fast paced, major curve balls, awesome revelations, outstanding intricacies and a whole lot of fun too.
I honestly didn't know which way to turn, from wanting to hug Cammie and Nic, to wanting to embrace Sophie, to wanting to destroy Maximilien with my bare hands, to wanting a nice cup of tea surrounded by MY people, the awesome inhabitants of Nic's mansion. Yes, they are so relatable, so protective and caring, of Nic, of each other, I adopted them as my family too. These characters are brimming with life, each one so distinctly awesome, I honestly can't even say who's my favourite. Josephine? Sergei? Will? Sophie? Who btw FLOODED me! See? Another Constance genius move, I'm sure I figured out her ploy to keep me so totally invested and immersed, I'm positive she has a Ruby dragon's power.... This was an awesome read I just couldn't put down, as much as I love all of Constance's books, this series is shaping up to be my very favourite, so much so, I howled in despair that I'd reached the end of the book. Please ma'am, I need more!!!!
(Mild spoilers) Let's start with the good: Cammie's magic is finally growing, and she connects with her hoard. Darcy is an adorable dragon. I love how he's a little dramatic. Nic is sweet and kind and protective and hot as ever. Cammie and her sister become closer, and they seem to understand each other a little bit more. There were some things that definitely made me laugh ("holy smacking mackerel molehills" really got me), and I'm glad Cammie decided to be proactive and start training. Now the not so good (at least, in my opinion): I didn't like this book as much as the first one. I'm really not sure what Nic sees in Cammie. She seems to have no particular skills or redeeming qualities until her magic starts to grow. He seems to be amazing in every aspect, but her? Not so much. Her deliberate obtuseness about Nic's love for her really started to bother me. It seemed like it was only dragged out to create more tension. If a hot guy was always giving me long, intense looks, calling me "love", and generally seemed to enjoy my company, it wouldn't be hard for me to think that he liked me. But for some reason, Cammie is determined not to see it. (And Nic seems determined not to address it). Even when everybody and their mother is telling Cammie it's there, she considers what they're saying, then dismisses it. It seemed like it was dragged out to create angst, but it wasn't too believable. Slow-burn romance? More like, (almost) no-burn romance. I was also very disappointed in Cammie's reaction to Maximilien's refusal to break the betrothal invocation. I think most people would be livid if someone was forcing them to get married. And they certainly wouldn't accept a betrothal gift. But though she's upset, she seems to just kind of accept the whole thing. Cammie has a lot of internal thoughts about things, but it was making me crazy how she wouldn't voice most of them. I know poor communication adds to the drama, but most of it seemed unnecessary. The resolution to the betrothal also seemed very neatly taken care of, with very little fanfare. Most of the drama of the book was about the betrothal, and it was just wrapped up so neatly, with a very convenient solution, that it was kind of disappointing. It's one thing to want to do something for somebody else, but it's another thing to be a martyr and actually marry someone. This isn't like letting someone else have the last slice of cake. Marriage is kind of permanent. And my last gripe? No kiss. Not one. Not even a close call. I don't need characters to be making out every other page, but a little romance is a requirement in most of the books I read, and I thought I'd be getting that here. Nope. I kind of assumed there'd be a cliffhanger of some sort, so I wasn't too disappointed in that. Although I do agree with another reviewer who said this really could have just been completed in two books. A third book seemed unnecessary. I certainly hope it's not dragged out to four books. I feel like the author could have slapped another 50 pages on to this book and called it good. All in all, I was disappointed. I don't know that I'll be reading the next book. TLDR: not as good as the first book, some humor, hardly any romance, deliberate ignorance, and a cliffhanger.
I received a ARC copy of this book from the author and even though a review wasn’t required, I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression of it upon finishing it.
Constance has written a wonderful series with humor and a story that will pull you in and keep you glued to the pages until the end and then have you waiting until the next book in the series Bookwyrm Revelation is released!
You must get the first book Bookwyrm Acquisitions to fully enjoy this delightful new series! It would be like going to the theater and trying to watch a movie when it’s already half over! You need the background believe me!
Cammie is trying to find her magic with the hoard of books Nic has given her to allow her now to shift for the first time to her dragon form but nothing has happened. Then she gets a burning pain that incapacitates her and discovers her estranged uncle has made a betrothal bond without her knowledge between her and the heir of another dragon clan. It’s the last thing she wants because she is falling in love with Nic!
A strange thing is occurring though when she is around him in that some of her Emerald powers are manifesting and she is able to help her friends when they are attacked!
More surprises are in store for Cammie as she discovers why her powers are starting to manifest themselves now and she finds her hoard isn’t what she thought because she shares it with someone she knows along with something much deeper!
Join Cammie, Nic, her sister Sophie and her friends who become more than just friends to her as what is happening to her is revealed as they all work to break this betrothal bond her uncle put on her without her knowledge or consent!
This is a great series that I know you’ll love as much as I do! Cammie and the rest are going to be your new best friends as you get involved in this story!
I for one am anxious for Bookwyrm Revelations to come out so this story can continue!
I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend you get both books and read them so you too will be ready when Revelation is released!
If you are looking for a series with humor and a heroine who has always struggled believing she is a failure because of her inability to shift and access her magic or. find her hoard allowing that magic to flow through her you really need to read these books!
I guarantee you’ll love them and the story that will keep you entertained and riveted as it unfolds!
What do you mean that's the end?! There's so much explanation and talking that needs to happen in the next book for readers to feel satisfied after being left hanging like that. But let me back up.
I've never felt writing a review to be this hard, but it's somehow been with this book. A major part of it is that it's a sequel and *so* many things happen that I want to talk with someone else about them, but I clearly can't here because #spoilers. So, just know that if a book can get such a strong reaction from readers, it's one heck of a ride in all the best and worst-but-worth-it ways.
Just know that the author is certainly magical in her writing, and she definitely knows how to deliver in the yearning and pining between our dear MCs (so yes, the super slow burn of the century continues with some delicious progress along the way!). There's also more sleuthing, action, and learning about new (and old?) complications. And don't even get me started on some secrets that are finally revealed. #AllTheAnswers (OK, not *all* but you get my point).
I simply loved every step of the journey. The pacing was on point, and I loved how the author gave a recap of events as she went along in the first few chapters of this book. Ideally, I would have reread the first book in prep for this one's release, but time is tight these days, so I greatly appreciated this fact. I also loved the introduction of new characters and seeing Cammie's interactions with all the side characters that we've come to love (from Eri and Kal to Will and Josephine, and even Sergei).
Honestly, I could go on and on about this one, but for fear of ruining it for anyone, I'll stop now. If you want to talk about this one, feel free to reach out (here or on SM). If you're looking for your next Urban Fantasy Romance addiction, don't look further than this one. I mean, a hero with an Irish accent who can quote Austen? *dreamy sigh* Sign me up! 😍 And, btw, when's the next one's release date? Asking purely for myself. ;) Oh, and if you want something to tide you over and haven't read the bonus scenes from Nic's POV, you're totally missing out, friend. Go check them out! You're welcome. 😊 ~ 5+ stars!
This book was a truly enjoyable read. It was so warm, cozy, and humorous and I absolutely loved Cammie's and Nic's relationship. The book was so well written that all the hints in the first book and now this book pointed directly toward the conclusion in this book! The world-building was excellent and the magic system and supernaturals were very well-developed and interesting to read.
I loved all the side-characters, especially since they play such an important role in the book! It was wonderful seeing Cammie's relationship with Nic's family grow and develop and each character had their own unique personalities that were wonderful to read. I'm also thrilled that Cammie's relationship with her sister has drastically improved and I really grew to love Sophie in this book. The relationships are well-written, the emotions are perfect, and the humour is wonderful! Cammie's personality is not the typical sassy heroine of many urban fantasy books and I loved it!
The plot was great and I'm hating the cliffhanger. The pacing was really good, not too fast that there was no time to take a break, but fast enough that it kept me wanting to turn the (digital) pages. I didn't feel as though there were any filler details and I absolutely loved how well Maximilien was brought into the story and his role in it. I can't wait to see how everything turns out later, especially since I'm guessing he'll have his own story?
Overall, this book was absolutely incredible and an absolutely delightful read! I definitely highly recommend the book to anyone who loves urban fantasy, humour, and a cozy read. The book is really clean in terms of romance, violence, swear words, etc. I cannot wait for the next book!
I received an ARC from the author. All opinions are my own.
With Gideon's plan foiled, Cammie has a little bit of breathing room. That is, until Maximilien comes knocking on Nic's door looking to wed Cammie. They have no formal betrothal until Cammie wakes up in pain, the betrothal invoked against her will. Now Maximilien refuses to help dissolve the betrothal and Cammie and her friends must figure out to get rid of it before she is forced to marry him or die. And that is assuming she manages to even make it that long with Nic's enemies coming at them as well. Cammie is just about the best friend you ask for! She is so kind and is almost as fierce as Nic when defending her new family. She is definitely fiercely loyal and her friends help bring out so much she has had hidden from even herself. She may be a bit naive, but she is definitely coming around. As usual, Nic is protective of not only Cammie, but his found family as well. We get a few hints at his background in this book and it helps you understand why he is so cautious with his trust. We also get more of Sophie and I was so pleasantly surprised by her! She has really become the sister Cammie needed. This is such an amazing book. I said it in my review for the last book, but this is one of my newest favorite series. There is action, but nothing graphic or extreme. Just enough to keep the suspense and tension. It has humor and all the feels. With Cammie finally coming to her senses you can't help but root for her. Some of the "reveals" were easy to see coming, but I actually loved that. It felt right for this story. The pacing was absolutely perfect and I couldn't put this book down! It was definitely easy to read and get lost in.
I received an ARC copy from the author but all thoughts and opinions are my own :)
Can I just say that I am obsessed with this series!? I adored book 1 but book 2 was even better!
We follow Cammie righ were we left off in the first book after learning she has been betrayed by her own family (her uncle). Now her and Nic (Dominic) are having to figure out who hired her uncle and who is trying to her them and their friends.
I simply could not put this book down! OH and that ending!!! I am so mad now that I have to wait for the next book! What a cliffhanger!
One thing I really appreciated with this book was that Constance dove in more with our characters being dragon shifters. In the first book it definitely was a part of the plot but I felt like it took way more of a backseat and I was just reading about regular nonmagic characters. In Bookwyrm Deceptions we delve way more into actually dragon shifting, the use of unique powers, and what a dragon hoard is and the emotional ties around it. The magic and how hoards and bonds work was fascniating!
We also cannot forget the little relationship that has been sprouting between Cammie and Nic! It gets sooo good in this book guys! You are going to love it and what Nic starts calling Cammie is my favorite endearment that a guy uses! But that being said, it is also what led me to being so frustrated with the ending! (Quick note Constance writes clean romances so you do not have to worry about anything explicity or above a PG level)
This was definitely a 5 star read and I am going to be anxiously waiting for the next book because I absolutely need more!
This series is a bookwyrm’s dream. 🐉 Cozy, clean urban fantasy is one of my absolute favorite genres, but sadly it is not an easy genre to find—and it's even harder to find it done well. Constance absolutely nailed it! I couldn’t put this book down, and now I am impatiently awaiting the next one in the series.
Cammie is one of the most relatable characters I have ever read! I adore her. And I think she showed great restraint in not yelling at Will. I definitely would have yelled at Will.
These characters have bewitched me, body and soul. If I loved this book any less, I might be able to talk about it more. It has pierced my soul. And I am half agony, half hope after that cliffhanger.
If you think Jane Austen quotes seem out of place in a review of an urban fantasy book, then you absolutely need to read this series!
Favorite Quotes: “At least my nails will look pretty when I die.”
“‘What are you doing here?’ I manage. Look at me, a coherent sentence. Embarrassed introverts everywhere would be proud.”
“That would be irrational, and I am only irrational on Tuesdays. Wait—what day is it? Dang it. It’s Tuesday.”
“People with Irish accents shouldn’t be allowed to call other people ‘love,’ especially when they’re attractive. It’s just too much power.”
“We start with stretches. Which sounds relaxing but is actually kind of like being drawn and quartered, except you’re doing it to yourself, and the quartering is just the burning from the drawn-ing part.”
I did receive an ARC copy from the author, and I am so grateful because if I had had to wait one more week to read this delightful book, I would have popped! 🥰
Camila is an emerald dragon, though she doesn’t feel like much if one, since she has such low power. She lives at Nic’s manor with a large number of his found family and is crazy about him. Nic is an Alexandrite dragon and of a different clan, but he is crazy for Cammie. (Book 1 has their backstory of how she came to live at the manor). Somehow neither have told each other how they feel, (yes, I’m rolling my eyes at the pups, tellllll each other, duh!!) and then a villain enters their story.
A Ruby dragon heir, Maxilimilien, and Cammie have a betrothal bond forced upon them. Disaster for Cammie but not so much for the heir - Max needs a well born bride for the upper echelons of dragon elite society, and she will do just fine. (Feel free to surmise that Max is a supercilious snob, he is, with moments of decency - just not enough of them).
In the midst of the upheaval, Cammie is abducted. Nic is able to locate her because of their actual bond and assist her (Cammie has managed to battle already and mostly free herself) and then, another shocking surprise. Nic has to race home with Cammie and her sister Sophia in tow, to save Cammie’s life.
Well written, this has it all! Romance, danger and a dragons hoard as well as true love. The betrothal bond is dissolved, they go home and Cammie wakes after healing to another shocker of a surprise and not a fun one (enthralling) and an absolutely worthwhile read
The second book in the Book Hoard Collective series is here! After the crazy cliffhanger, I was so excited for this! It was a great continuation. Cammie just had one thing after another! I felt for her. She was still reeling from her uncle’s betrayal and then hit with a betrothal. Cammie was also facing her own growing feelings and what it meant for her relationship with Nic and the others in the house. She was learning about her magic and her self throughout the story. I loved seeing her grow into herself and connecting more with the others in the house. It was so cool to understand more of the world! I loved seeing Cammie’s growing relationship with all the side characters! They had such a fun dynamic and I loved meeting some new characters as well! Sohpia was a good sister too, I loved getting to see their relationship in this book and how they had each other’s back. She did not completely understand Cammie, but did her best to support her as she could. I was so engrossed in the progression of the story and I was once again hit with another cliffhanger! I cannot wait for the continuation and highly recommend this. This cozy urban fantasy is a direct continuation of the first book and so should be read after it. It has some light fantasy violence and only kisses. I received an ARC.
I'm not sure how to rate this book, so bear with me here while I figure it out. It was SO FRUSTRATING having Cam be in such ridiculous denial ALL THROUGH THE BOOK. I mean, EVERYONE'S telling her they're in love with each other, he's literally calling her love, and NOT being subtle, and she's denying it up til 78%. Arg! And of COURSE it's his sister pulling the strings. Because everything is about inheritance with dragons. But worst of all was how freaking long she took to figure out the bonds. Both of them! She's taking such obvious notice of catching Nic's thoughts and emotions, and yet a mate bond never crossed her mind?! It doesn't even seem realistic. And I think I figured out she was hoarding the people sometime around 25%...I mean, her entire fight with the vampires was about protecting Sergei, that's how she leveled up. And she didn't even like him that much! Okay, so that's the bad stuff, that kinda makes me want to give it 3 stars. But oh, the adorable little geek. She is hilarious fumbling through her life, even when also frustrating. I can relate so much. And the romance IS compelling, even if she was clueless through most of it. I just think this mighta made a better duology than trilogy.
This was an amazing sequel to this series! It picks up right where the first book left off and kept me hooked from the start. The world-building was wonderful and easy to visualize in this urban fantasy setting. The twists were shocking and had my jaw dropping more than once. The characters were wonderful and played crucial roles, I loved them all (except for Gideon and the bad guys of course), even Maximilien grew on me! Of course Cammie and Nic were my favorites with their sweet and swoony moments. It was great watching Cammie become more powerful, and even gaining some confidence (especially when she volunteered for combat training). I appreciated how fiercely everyone in the mansion protected and loved each other in their own way. Forewarning: this does end on a slight cliffhanger thanks to developments towards the end, and Nic being Nic. I absolutely recommend this slow-burn, no-spice, dragon-shifter (plus other mythical creatures) series to any reader!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy with no expectation of a review. All opinions are my own.
I just finished this book and I have no idea how I’m going to survive until book 3 comes out!!
I received Bookwyrm Deceptions by Constance Lopez as an ARC and it did not disappoint! It’s a romantic urban fantasy with no explicit content that is perfect for fans of KM Shea, Kenley Davidson and Shari Tapscott. It is the second book in a planned trilogy.
I loved every minute of this book - and this whole series so far, honestly! Book 2 continues to build on the found family vibes and it was an absolute treat getting to spend more time with the side characters. I am still patiently waiting for my very own fae dragon familiar (because Darcy is absolutely adorable) and Cammie’s library? If it were mine, I would never leave! Oh and the chapter titles? They were sneak peeks of what was to come which basically guarantees a severe, incurable case of “just one more chapter” syndrome. There are a ton of swoon-worthy moments along with plenty of banter to keep readers hooked on this fast-paced adventure. Plus, Nic is the ultimate book-boyfriend: Irish accent, intense gaze, teasing half-smiles, and fierce protectiveness? Yes, please!
Welcome to Book 2 in the Book Hoard Collective. As someone who really only thrives when surrounded by people who like me...this book was my *jam*. Camile is weak, but would really like to be strong...but man, that takes a lot of WORK. Nic loves Cami, but desperately wants her to make the first move. Max is...uh....well, he's Max. Don't worry about him. Sophie is Camile's sister, and she's a complicated mix of aloof, frustrated, loyal, and loving. This series must be read in order to make sense, so make sure you read book 1 first.
I loved this book. I expected it to take me a few days to finish. Instead, it took me a single (focused) afternoon/evening. The plot moved quickly, I wanted to shake the characters more than once, and watching Camile and Nic come together was just oh. so. sweet. (And Camile made some awesome progress on her "hoard", which was so satisfying!!) I loved this. Great for fans of KM Shea, Alora Carter, or Kenley Davidson. A strong female lead, a devoted male lead, a good amount of action, and some slow burn romance...and lots of delicious treats, warm tea, and cardigans in the background.
Okay so I'm sleep deprived from staying up to read this, so this review will not be eloquent, lol. But I of course have to drop in here and leave my glowing review!
I've never read such a cozy yet gripping and adorable story in my life as the one in this series! Reading this feels like wrapping up in a fluffy blanket or a warm hug, with a treat that's perfectly sweet and filling. It just really hits the spot!
Now, did I see everything coming? Yes, but in a happy way where I'm satisfied that I correctly read between the lines in the previous book. Even better, the relationship between Cammie and Nic progressed more than I expected, and all of the characters grew on me even more! (And the author thankfully did a great job of reminding me who everyone is since it's been a while since book 1, which I always REALLY appreciate!) I especially love and appreciate Cammie's sister in this book, which was also a welcome surprise! I LOVE her. Heck, I adore all of the characters...
Anyway. I am very much looking forward to book 3! This is one of my favorite series ever!!
I received this book as an ARC and am leaving my honest review.
Cammie doesn't work for Nic anymore, but she still remains at the castle with all the others that Nic has taken under his wings. Cammie's powers are increasing, but are very unrelible. Considering they are still under attack from some enemy she needs to learn how to control her dragon magic, but then something else happens that demands her full attention.
So much fun to be back with Cammie and Nic and their whole found family! I love that Cammie's sister Sophie gets to play a bigger part and that the sisters come closer. I love Nic's thoughtfulness and how he's started calling Cammie "love".
“ 'Hello, love.' The man has got to stop calling me love. I can’t handle it."
Imagine saying it with an Irish accent as well!
We mostly get Cammie's POV, but at the end we also get a couple of chapters from Nic's point of view (I usually prefer dual POV!). There's a lot going on in this second book, and even though there are a lot of attacks and fighting it never loses its cozy vibes. Some things I realise long before they're revealed, but other things surprise me. I get a bit frustrated with Cammie sometimes, when she doesn't speak with Nic about what's going on, but it's hard to stay mad at her! I'm not sure how I'll manage to wait for the next book now, especially with that ending!
* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *
Oh my heart! Cammie and Nic steal the show in book two. While I had the chance to be an early reader, I still dove right into this gem in KU today, because Constance Lopez delivered everything you could hope for in q book that takes place in the middle of an epic journey. Some questions from book one getting tied answered, some loose threads that carried over get tied up, while yet others continue to evade our delightful couple.
There are, of course, some separate issues that arise within this book, as well. Even more complications for Cammie to struggle through. But all is not lost, since she has finally acquired her hoard. (I’m not telling what it is though… you just have to grab a copy and read it yourself!
The last portion of the book will definitely squeeze your heart, and then we are once again left with a cliffhanger that left me saying, “NO!!! WHY?!?”
Grab your copy and get caught up on the adventure today!
I received an ARC copy from the author. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
Spoiler warning. I don't understand why everyone just forgave Nic for what he did in book 1. The only reason I picked up this book was to be able to see that man grovel for what he did to Cammie. To see that not only is there no groveling but there is no apology, no atonement, not even any repercussions. Why, cuz he has a cute face and a cool accent? And then to top things off, you get to watch Cammie not only fawn over someone who betrayed and lied to her and let his bodyguard bully her regularly but she is polite and swoony over a man who looked her straight in the face and said that his needs mattered more than her consent. She literally took a gift from him amd let him kiss her hand like he's Darcy. I kept reading to see if she ever redeemed herself or grew a backbone at all but nope. I literally never post negative reviews but this book made me so mad I couldn't go to sleep last night. So much potential if she'd had an ounce of the backbone that Sophie did.
I really enjoyed Bookwyrm Deceptions, the second book in Constance Lopez’s Book Hoard Collective series. It picks up immediately where book one ends, so this is definitely a series you’ll want to read in order.
One of my favorite parts of the first book was the found family, and that continues to be one of the strongest aspects of the series. I loved seeing Cammie’s relationships with the group continue to grow, and Nic remains one of my favorite characters. He’s the perfect mix of thoughtful, protective, and just swoony enough.
What surprised me most about this book is how much depth it has. At first glance, it looks like a cozy fantasy, and it absolutely delivers those cozy bookish vibes. But beneath that is a story with real substance. The world expands naturally, questions from the first book are answered, and just when you think you’re getting everything figured out, new mysteries appear.
And that ending… wow. The cliffhanger is absolutely brutal in the best possible way. Now I’m counting down the days until the next book.
Y’all, I genuinely have no idea how Constance Lopez keeps making these books better, but somehow she does. I absolutely loved this sequel!
Bookwyrm Deceptions picks up pretty close to where the first book ends, so I definitely recommend reading Bookwyrm Acquisitions first. It had been a little while since I read the first book, but I was still able to jump back into Cammie's world without too much trouble.
Cammie's inner dialogue continues to be one of my favorite things. She is hilarious, slightly chaotic, and somehow completely oblivious when it comes to Nic. GIRL. WE SEE IT. Watching these two slowly circle around their feelings is giving me all the slow-burn frustration in the absolute best way.
And NIC. My sweet, dangerous, protective boy. I adore him and the way he cares for Cammie. Their romance is moving at approximately one dragon's pace, but the tension and little moments make it SO worth the wait.
Beyond the romance, I loved watching Cammie's found family grow even stronger. The characters, the humor, the cozy castle setting, the animal companions, the bookish references... all of it makes this series feel like the literary equivalent of a warm blanket and a cup of tea—except there are also dragons, magical attacks, dangerous enemies, and enough twists to keep me constantly guessing.
This series is quickly becoming one of my favorite cozy fantasy reads, and Constance Lopez is absolutely becoming one of my favorite fantasy authors. I am already over here dramatically asking...
If you love cozy fantasy, found family, clean romance, slow-burn love, magical creatures, humor, and book-loving heroines, you NEED this series on your TBR—but start with book one!
Thank you to Constance Lopez for providing me with an ARC. No positive review was required, and all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
This was such a great second book of the series! Cammie is living in the Alexanderites home, where the hope is her uncle cannot reach her. But there are other plans that no one saw coming. Between the attacks and the strengthening of her own magic, Cammie is learning so much but also needs more information.
I loved Constance's way of melding the found family and the chaos of blending lives in one giant household. The way they love and support one another is such a wonderful thing. Their wit and banter throughout the whole book had me laughing as well as Cammie and her inner neurotic monolog, absolutely kept me in her head space. I had so many feelings all the way thru this book, but most of all just wanting to be a part of this world. I can't wait to see what the last book brings and the kind of magic our girl taps into for it.
"That would be irrational, and I am only irrational on Tuesdays. Wait—what day is it? Dang it. It’s Tuesday."
I really enjoyed this second book in the Book Hoard Collective by Constance Lopez. Bookwyrm Deceptions picks up right where book one left off, and yes, you absolutely must read book one first! One of my favorite aspects from the first book was the found family, and that continues to be one of the strongest elements in this book. I loved watching Cammie’s relationship with everyone deepen, and Nic continues to be the perfect blend of swoony, considerate, and protective.
All in all, Bookwrym Deceptions is truly deceptive. You might pick it up expecting a light, cozy, urban fantasy read. While it does deliver on the cozy vibes, the plot has a surprising amount of depth and the story expands the world in the most organic way. Lingering questions from book one are answered while new mysteries are revealed. The cliff-hanger at the end is truly awful in the best way.
Bookwyrm deceptions was filled with all the yearning moments between Nic and Cammie! I absolutely loved it!! Cammie was continuing to grow throughout the book and finally admitting she cares for Nic was amazing. Honestly, the plot did surprise me with the betrothal because it built up more of the tension regarding the third book. There’s more behind the villain than meets the eye and we finally have an idea who it is. I will say that Cammie’s growth reminds me of Chloe from KM Shea’s Gate of Myth and Power trilogy in that she is very introverted, but because of her loved ones she wants to fight—needs to fight to protect them. Definitely excited for the next book! I also loved Sophie in this book cause she gave me a new perspective on her story (totally want a book for her)
This series is completely clean—no sexual content or swearing. My opinions for this book are my own and I received an ARC version from the author.
Bookwyrm Deceptions by Constance Lopez is one book that you just can't get enough of.
I have been waiting sooooo long for this book and it did not disappoint. We love the classic slow burn and this one just has a delicious simmer! We are brought into a love triangle where there doesn't seem to be any solution. Cammie is torn in two, by protecting the ones she loves, or being with the ones she loves. There is just so much to love about the dedication of the main characters and their loyalty. There was many tension filled scenes, that made me bite my nails in anticipation.
I loved the growth of Cammie, and I loved learning more about our lovely side characters. The world is just a magnificent one to be sucked into and I can't waitttttttt to read the last book. What is going to happen? Will Will's prophecies make sense? Will there even be a happy ending? Ahhhhh! When is it coming out?
If you want a book to drive you insane in a good way, this is the one for you.
