PLANS CAN CHANGE AT THE MOST UNLIKELY TIME DUE TO SOMETHING THAT YOU WOULD EVER SEE COMING

4/24/26 Review:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jess Tucker: A Western by R.O. Lane is a well-written, action-packed, thriller, with a touch of romance that will hook you into the storyline from the first chapter and hold your interest to the last as Jess Tucker, a bounty hunter, sets out to track down the cattle rustlers who kidnapped Katie Flaherty "a young woman with a spine of iron who refused to be frightened, who met danger with her chin up", that they plan on selling her and her cattle down across the border in Mexico.

Tucker is approached by Katie's desperate grandfather to help bring back his granddaughter and the cattle if possible. Seamus Flaherty, Katie's grandfather, is a cranky old Irishman with enough aces and pains to make the trip himself all but impossible if not for his stubbornness and determination to reunite with his granddaughter and return her safely back to their ranch in southwest Texas. Tucker doesn't even think twice when asked to help by Seamus and the two hit the trail of the rustlers and kidnappers within the hour, crossing desert wastelands, little to no access to water, and pull Katie out of the clutches of the band of murderous and ruthless rustlers.

During their travels, every step of the way is a fight for their lives. Every mile is a chance for Tucker, who is set in his ways and believes that his destiny is that of a man whose life is by the gun and bound to be a bachelor for life. A fate he has accepted and is comfortable with. That is until Katie.

Though I haven't read everything that R.O. Lane has written yet, everything that I have read is well enjoyed and I can honestly recommend each and every book I have read to all readers of all ages and this book is at the top of that list. I hope you will also find yourself enjoying this book as much as I have.

Quotes:
"I was having a quiet beer, minding my own business, when three cowboys decided they didn't care for the Irish. Started pushin' me around, knockin' my beer over--which, if you know anything about the Irish, is a declaration of war."

"He could not hang a picture without the wall falling down."

"Dreams are how everything starts.”

A heart touching story

This is a wonderful story of a man whom I became a bounty hunter from early adulthood, and was good at it. When he saw a friend along the Mexican border with Texas his life made a sharp turn. The old friend, a stubborn Irish immigrant, nearly crippled from rheumatism, was headed into Mexico to get his seventeen year old granddaughter back from the thieves who had taken her and fifty of their eighty head herd of cattle. The young bounty hunter joined the determined old man in his quest to rescue the granddaughter, the two against seven evil banditos. This story tells of the adventure, and how the strong young woman, equally as stubborn and determined as her grandfather, transformed the heart of her rescuer, giving him true purpose, and showing him contentment he didn't know even existed. Along with the adventure and dangers, it is a wholesome story of finding love and a new life.

I have loved the previous books by R.O. Lane. Yet this one seemed special to me with the way it was written, with full imagery of the locations, action, thoughts and feelings of the main character especially. I had lots of warm fuzzies reading it, and strongly recommend it.

excellent book

I enjoy your books as they are clean but have a very interesting plot. I have read all of your books and some of them twice. This is a switch for me as I usually read mystery’s. I read a book every night as I don’t watch a lot of TV, I rather use my imagination. I am 91 and reading is one of the greatest pleasures I have had through the years that includes my bible which is the greatest treasure.

I look forward to reading the next one and I have re-read several of them again.

Thank you for great stories. This one was completely different from any of your others and was very very enjoyable.

A redheaded lady and your horse is named Red. How could you go wrong?

I always am delighted when I discover another "Lane". This one was is one of his best. A bounty hunter with no direction other than the next wanted poster. His elderly friend who has his granddaughter taken. An evil Mexican bandito. And a most beautiful and tough redheaded Green eyed answer to his own salvation.

A bountiful heart

This is one of thse stories you immediately want to identify with the main characters. This is a story that practically everyone can understand and it fills you with gratitude for the blessings in life. Good People are what makes life worth the living. Once we know such people and who we are too, it fills our hearts with the desire to do all we can for them. My kind of story.

Great story!

I loved how you wrote a love story in 205 pages that so eloquently stated how love should build and grow. The title is Jess Tucker, but the story is a love story in 1883 Texas. I appreciate your writing style, and that you can turn out a good story every few months. Keep up the good work.

A bounty hunters dream.

Grit and danger lead this story. Kidnapping and cattle rustling amid threats and bullets lead to a desperately failing ranch and an old man willing to risk his life for his granddaughter. The bounty hunters dream which he never thought possible is within his reach and he is willing to risk his life for her.

Another wonderful story

R.O. Lane knows how to tell a story. It's like watching a movie. You see the beautiful rich characters, you fell the action, the intensity of the story. Jess Rocker was a great bounty hunter who helped a friend get his granddaughter back from a Mexican bandits.

this is well written book

Nice to read a book that people mean so much to each other. Not given but earned by doing. True values mean more than money and words. The description of the land and desert was very good to read. The a Mexican Hacienda and the owner of the ranch was very good description of honorable men. Thank God for honor man.

such a sweet story

This author can create the best stories because it touches the heart. His characters are solid and ones you have met and loved. The action is suttle but it can still stir your imagination. I didn’t want this story to end. Maybe there will be a sequel. On to his next story. Thank you Mr Lane.

A Wonderful Western and Love Story

This book is one of the best westerns and love stories I've read in a very long time. It keeps you on edge and at the same time in love with the hero and heroine. With just the right amount of danger, mixed with heroism, and a very happy ending. Enjoy.

First Class reading

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was easy reading with a well structured storyline. Having grown up in the upper head waters of the Rio Grande Del Norte, it is critical to me that an author write Rio Grande and NOT Rio Grande River which translates to River Big River. Thanks R. O.

Really enjoyed getting to know Jess and Katie as well as everyone else they had telling their story. Enough suspense, romance and humor to make it very difficult to put down. Great storytelling again by Mr. Lane.

R.o.Land can write a western book as well as any author that I’ve read . His characters are strong and all fit the tale to a perfection. I would highly recommend any western book with his name below the title and believe that I have read most of them!
