“You can’t erase love”

So here we are, the last book of 'The Story Of Us' series. I'm sad because I will miss these characters. I began this journey in February with the 'The Way We Fall' and I knew back then this story was going to be one of my favorites and the characters were going to stay close to my heart forever.

 photo 9078438_zps58224bd2.gif

If you have been reading the series you already know 'The Way We Break' ended with "Code Blue. Code Blue." A cliffhanger that left us pretty much pacing the room and again counting the days for the next book. The waiting was driving me crazy I might add.

 photo 8729295_zpse94f6385.gif

So, what happens now?

 photo tumblr_inline_n3iqut5huM1suk512_zps16679034.gif

Before you start reading the book, make yourself comfortable ( because you won't be able to put it down ), have a box of kleenex near you, lots of junk food and a good alcoholic beverage. I'm not kidding. You will need every thing i just mentioned. Do it, don't make me say "I told you so".

Houston and Rory happiness seems to be just around the corner. Is it? Can they just grab it and be HEA? Get ready then because there are still secrets to be revealed and lessons to be learned.

With each revelation, Houston is absolutely sure that they need a break.

 photo 8061766_zps95836b40.gif

We already know Rory and Houston story is complicated. Life hasn't been fair with them and now Houston, after everything they have been through, suggests they could be friends.

random photo tumblr_inline_mzfhu19Z1k1s6xs69_zps08048e7b.gif

Will they friendship survive? Can they be just friends? Can they forgive and move on? Can they forget and start over? Can Houston and Rory heal their wounds and learn what's really important? If you want to know the answers don't forget 'The Way We Rise' goes LIVE August 21st.

We finally get to the conclusion of Houston and Rory's story and I was definitely ready for some happy times after the ending of the last book.

However, the book starts off with all the aftermath of that ending and Rory's thrust right back in the middle of things. I was pretty shocked at Liam's father but I loved what Rory's dad did. It was a perfect reentry for him.

Rory's dad does a lot to make amends...and he needs to. They set up a foundation for Hallie with her mom's help and Rory takes a job there.

description

Houston and Rory also decide things went off the deep end and they're taking a step back and reacquainting themselves with each other. A little silly IMO and thankfully it didn't last too long. I did love their trip to the cemetery though! ;)

Then as soon as they are back together, Houston starts acting the distant. I love the reasons why and of course, he is forgiven!

And I can believe that my wish came true!! I'm always frustrated when the H/h finally get together and the book is over but not this one. From about sixty percent on is all happy-ever-after and it was amazing. Okay, maybe a little long winded but I got what I asked for so I can't complain.

I loved how everything came together for these two. They've struggled for so long and had so many obstacles that it was just wonderful reading about them being happy.

I'm very disappointed with this series. It started off great with so much potential and then just fizzled. The Way We Rise was awful...Rory was annoying and the storyline was lame.

5 "No friendship, no love." STARS!

Ahhh, Cassia Leo... you brought me another book boyfriend, Houston Cavanaugh but he comes in behind Chris Knight! This series is FANTASTIC!

Talk about bad luck, in the last two books Houston and Rory were tested over and over again. Eventually Houston suggests they need to take a break if you will. Talk about frustration, I was very much upset with such a setback, the sexual tension was off the charts when they were around each other. This is an opening for me to mention something about Cassia I love, I first noticed in her Shattered Love Series (Awesome btw). I think there's nothing better than an author including playlists, it makes for a better/realistic experience in reading for me but it's even more amazing the way Cassia does it. She inserted a song called Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran into a scene with Chris Knight (yum) and Claire in the Shattered Love Series. It was PERFECT! I was in the moment and after reading and getting to know Chris and Claire and the relationship, having that knowledge, the song felt right. A playlist at the beginning of a book is ok but you can't associate it with any event or meaning if it's not In the chapter with the event or even on the new chapter page.

Example. This is a moment between Houston and Rory driving along during their being friends break. Cassia makes you feel it... I know I did!

I was curious to what role Contessa and Liam would play in this final book, I must say I never would have guessed but it was perfect, for both of them.

This was The Story of Us series for a reason, it's based on a book Rory was writing about loving Houston since she was fourteen years old.
I didn't mention it the last two reviews because it's their story, you need to read it, there's nothing I can say.

This includes some more secrets, sadness, learning to live again, forgiveness, healing, reaching out for help, and knowing everyone has a story that needs to be heard.

This was a winner for me... I love Cassia Leo, what can I say?

Well, I breezed through this book pretty quick. That's a good thing. Because I was enjoying the story.
The first book I really liked, the second book not as much.
Rory and Houston definitely grew as individuals and as a couple in this book.
I really agreed with Houston in his reason for moving Rory into the friend zone. It gave them a chance to step back and really see each other. Houston wasn't a super hero, but he was an amazing guy that you would call your hero because he was always there for Rory in her times of need.
But the step back really helped these two, even though it didn't seem to last that long.
I liked how everyone came together and forgiveness was found.
I loved all the smexy times between Rory and Houston.
For me this was a great conclusion to their story.

Thank his book was horrific! Not a fan of authors who try to romanticise married men’s infidelities with his teenage daughter’s best friend! Love? Seriously I don’t think so! No way would he be forgiven!

Ne znam sto sam ocekivala od ovog serijala ali nije mi sjeo. Voljela bih da mi se netko javi tko je procitao i napise svoje dojmove, meni tu nesto ne stima. Razvuceno, sporo, nikakav zaplet, hrpica nabacanih kratkih prica s istim protagonistima. Fali mi ona nit koja drzi cijelu knjigu.

4 Star Review by Jen Skewes

The Way We Rise is the third and final installment in this series. I could not wait to get my hands on this one. I needed answers. I needed to know if Rory and Houston would finally get their happily ever after. What would happen with Liam and would they all be able to work it out and put the past where it belongs, in the past.

Rory and Houston have come together at the end of the last book and now they are left to deal with the aftermath of what happened with Liam. It’s a very emotional moment and time for Rory and neither one of them really know how to deal with it. Houston loves Rory and wants a future with her but he also knows that they still have so much to work out. There are still secrets that are being kept ans when it all comes out, the are both left completely shocked and wondering what happens next. Houston thinks that maybe they need to take a step back and start over, as friends. Yes you read that correctly. Being just friends for now, get to know each other better and take it slow is the way he thinks they should proceed. And honestly I completely understood exactly where he was coming from and why he suggested it. These two have been through so much hurt and pain over the last six years. The event that brought them together still plagues them. It is still something that is between them and they both need to be able to put it in the past, all of it in order to move forward. They both need to forgive and not just each other. But will being friends really be the solution? Given the way they feel about each other will they be able to truly be just friends? And most importantly will they get the happy ending that they both deserve? So many questions. But trust me you will get all the answers that you need in the end.

I really loved the conclusion to Rory and Houston’s story. We were kept wondering if they would get their happy ending. At times it didn’t seem like they were both on the same page. They loved each other but there was so much standing in their way. Once again Ms. Leo managed to surpise us even further when more secrets come out an you are left wondering how will these two get past this. And at times I wasn’t really sure. But there love is strong and because of that their love is strong enough to rise above it all.

I think my favorite part of this book was the epilogue. Cassia Leo certainly did their love story justice with this amazing epilogue. Not only did Ms. Leo do a fantastic job tying everything together where all parties are concerned, but it was the perfect ending for Rory and houston. It was funny, sweet and just beautiful. I felt the love and connection between Rory and Houston in this one, which for me personally was lacking a bit in the first two. But I felt it all with them this time around. I truly saw how much these two were meant to be together. No matter how long it took for them to figure it all out and find their way back to each other, in the end they were exactly where they belonged. Another fantastic job by Ms. Leo

No friendship, no love.

Houston, we have closure. Get it?

They're back, they're better than ever, and they're just friends. Rory and Houston have so much to deal with, to put behind them, and to move forward in their own personal lives. Liam is out of the picture , Tessa isn't messing with Houston anymore, Rory's dad is making amends, and yet Rory and Houston don't know how to have a relationship and still have all this baggage. Rory's book is gone and she's lost without it, floating along in life, but Rory's dad has a plan. His amends involve the creation of Hallie's Hope, a nonprofit to help others dealing with the same situation. Rory agrees to head up the foundation, especially after learning even more about Hallie's struggles in life. All the family and friends of Houston and Rory team up to bring them together, to help them along the way of dealing with their past, planning futures, and hopefully a happily ever after.

I cannot tell you how hard it was to put this book down when I finished it. Houston is my new book boyfriend, how can you say no to this man? The friendship between Houston and Rory is tantalizing, you're waiting for them to lose control, to fall back into the same pattern. Instead, they talk, they learn from each other, they grow, and in due time, they come together. Their relationship has been my favorite from the start of The Way We Fall. They're meant to be. There are a lot more laughs in this book than the previous two, the air seems lighter and the words less heavy. While all the characters deal with their individual parts in the massive puzzle there are moments of sadness, despair, anger, and hurt, but it all works out in the end. The ending, of course, is my favorite. How everyone comes together to work together for one cause, to look at the past in a positive light, it's just heartwarming. Then Cassia Leo delivers this beautiful epilogue that closes out the story in the best way possible. I can't even.

Unfortunately, the switching characters POV adds up to more than two. It's past, present, Rory, Houston, Patricia, etc. That got so confusing for me. It really made the story make more sense, but it was easy to forget who I was reading, especially when the present/past switched in the middle of a character's POV. At some points, the secrets get overwhelming, it's hard to keep finding out more bad news. It works out in the end, I promise you, hang tight for the good.

You won't want to put this series down when you start it and you'll be totally happy you read it once you get to The Way We Rise. Everything comes full circle and it's all meant to be.

This book was seriously the perfect ending. It was a beautiful and trying culmination of Houston and Rory's love, life and story. It really came full circle from the beginning of the series and it was a beautiful thing to witness. As per usual Cassia Leo invoked a TON of emotion in me and I can't stop thinking about this series! Houston is just perfection. The beginning grabbed me right away and hooked me throughout the story and the ending...the epilogue of all epilogues went out with a bang!

We get to go on this amazing roller coaster from book 1, into book 2 and now book 3! It's chalk full of love, heartache, loss, family and friends. Having seen the character growth throughout the series has made me fall in love with them even more and these books, especially this one will stick with me forever. Cassia Leo has done it again and this series yet again proves her incredible writing talent and she is one author I will drop everything for and read whatever she writes! Well done!

Review: I was given an advanced reader copy from the author for an honest review.
I have loved each one of these books and I was sad to see this series end but the way that Cassia Leo finishes Rory and Houston’s story I am pleased with it. Cassia you did a wonderful job and I loved every bit of their story. I loved that it was from both Houston and Rory’s point of view. It is an amazing story of love and overcoming obstacles in life.
They have been in love for a long time, they have been through a lot and so when Houston wants to be friends to reestablish their friendship and love, Rory is first upset but she comes to understand. There are ups and downs but you get to see things come around full circle. All the characters are back in this book. I loved everything about the final book in this series. I love the way Cassia wrote it. Cassia has a way with words. I can’t wait to read whatever she has coming out next. I would recommend this series to anyone who hasn’t read it. I give The way we rise 5 out of 5 stars!

I hate that I didn't love this. If authors insist on turning everything into a trilogy, they really need to release the books closer together. I had forgotten so much about the first 2 books by the time I read this, that I felt pretty unattached to both the MCs throughout this book. They're both likable, but this could have been MUCH shorter and their HEA could have been accomplished by sticking an extended epilogue on the end of book 2. Speaking of extended epilogues...40% of this book was the epilogue!! Strange but true...

4.5 “Happy beginnings are my favorite” Stars

“You see, in real life, there are no happy endings, because real life, real love, has no ending. So all of this… This is our happy beginning.”

"This is how the story ends, with a promise of forever."

I binged on this series and now that I've reached the end, I still want more Houston and Rory. How could I not? I was sucked in by this angsty vortex and this (new-to-me) author's writing. Oh my, do I miss Houston already. He was written so authentically. From his mannerisms down to his every thought and emotion, he felt true and real to me. His longing for Rory, every time he reached for her and held her, made me adore him even more—flaws and all. All "Fifty Shades of Houston." I'm excited to have found another author to stalk and look forward to binging on her other existing work. I'm booked!

Gah!

The truth is that ever story ends at some point. It's just that some stories end happier that others.

I've experience a lot of emotions since the beginning of Houston and Rory's love story. The Way We rise is the final conclusion of The Story of Us. It is sad to say goodbye to the characters that you fall in love with. This beautiful love story ends perfectly. A perfect ending for a perfect story. No words how very much I adore and how talented Cassia Leo is. I will surely miss this series. I know that every story ends in some point but a real love story never ends, it is just the beginning. I highly recommend this book and I hope you wont miss this out!

I wanted to like this, but I actually hated every word. Rory was awful. She was so completely unlikable in books 2 and 3, that I actually wanted her to end up miserable and alone. Houston also became really lame and whipped. Just spineless and weak. Secondary characters really held no substance and so many scenes felt unnecessary and like filler material. Book one was okay, but 2 and 3 just fell so incredibly flat. Plus the epilogue was really a novella and just didn't help this book at all, in my opinion. It just made me hate characters more, especially when things happen that are so unbelievable they are eye roll worthy. Didn't come over as real life, just a real selfish, spiteful mess.

not a winning trilogy for me.

This conclusion was written beautifully. I must say that Cassia Leo's writing style for contemporary is completely different from that of her erotic series. I'm glad I gave this a chance.

Okay, maybe it's just me but Rory aggravated me for the entire series! Unfortunately this book didn't improve my opinion of her. Houston was absolutely wonderful and had the patience of a saint! For someone that has loved him for more than half her life, I just wasn't feeling it. His love I didn't doubt at all. He proved it time and time again. Her not so much. Ah maybe it's just me.

Regardless the essence of the story, Houston, and Kenny made the story very worthwhile.

After loving Black Box, I thought it was a give that this series would be amazing. Oh, how wrong I was...

There was nothing good in these books. Nothing. At. All. The plot was bad, the characters were bad, the writing was bad. Everything was so, so, so BAD. A month ago, I would have jumped at the chance to read anything by Cassia Leo, but now I don't think she's an author I will continue reading.

I decided to withhold my review until I finished reading the entire series. To be honest, I vacillated between giving 3 or 4 stars to this final installment for a number of reasons. But I really think the reason I settled on a 3 is due to the epilogue. After going through two and a half books of constant angst, I just had a hard time swallowing how perfectly everything came together for every single character. It was just so hard to believe. Hence, when the car came at Houston after the reception, I really expected the story to end right at that moment because it would have seemed more real in the grand scheme of things.

While I did enjoy the story as it progressed, there were a few things that just didn't sit well with me. For one thing, the issue of Rory's father and Hallie. As a mother, I can't even begin to imagine a scenario where I would ever forgive the man who indulged my teenage daughter's fantasies. Regardless of whether they loved one another, Rory's father should have had the maturity and common sense to not give in to the temptation for the sake of his family (if not for the fact that Hallie was barely legal). In my opinion, it doesn't matter that he called the affair off when he realized she had been assaulted at one point in her life. It doesn't matter that she had "daddy" issues. The damage alone from an affair with a child (and yes, Hallie was an IMPRESSIONABLE CHILD) is inexcusable. The damage that he had to have known the affair would cause his family and particularly his daughter was inexcusable.

The fact that Rory forgave him made me angry. The fact that Houston and Ava forgave him made me even angrier. The fact that his ex-wife Patricia went back to him made me downright livid! In what universe does this actually happen? What kind of sick, twisted individual like Rory's father gets away with something like this and actually finds a happy ending and seemingly no regret even though he was the reason his daughter's best friend killed herself? I don't buy it.

Another issue I had was with the amount of explicit sex in all three novels. I'm not a prude by any means, but I had a hard time with it because it seemed to overshadow the genuine love that Rory and Houston were supposed to feel for one another. More often than not, it made me question whether their relationship was based on true love or sheer lust bordering on obsession. I tried to look past it, but it was difficult to say the least. Particularly when both of them seemed to use sex as a means to an end.

And I won't even address the whole "Liam" arc. I'd like to pretend that he wasn't even a part of the story.

A few highlights: I did enjoy that Rory had a gay best friend in Kenny, though his "gayness" did seem stereotypically over the top at times. I did enjoy the progression of the relationship between Rory and Houston when reading between the lines, and their struggle to overcome every obstacle in their way. I'm a sucker for stories that have the hero and heroine destined to be together but forced to remain apart until the stars finally align, and this story fit the bill.

I may decide to read more by this author as I enjoyed her writing, but I may have to wait awhile before starting a new series until I've come to terms with the issues I had with this series.

Cassia Leo could not have written a more perfect conclusion to The Story of Us Series. The Way We Rise was everything I’d come to love about Rory and Houston’s story and then some. This book embodies devastating heartbreak and unimaginable pain, ferocious love and unwavering hope. Cassia Leo has captured the delicate beauty that is falling in love and the even more fragile triumph that is nurturing it. The final book in Houston and Rory’s journey was raw, honest, and emotionally gripping. This book explored the challenge of making the rewrites necessary to adapt to life’s unmatched ability to stray from the planed storyline while maintaining hope for a happily ever after. The Way We Rise is touching, smart, and utterly breathtaking; every bit the ending Houston and Rory deserved.

In the first two books Houston’s sole focus has been on getting Rory back, but in this book we get to see a more mature and sympathetic man. Houston recognized the enormity of the events that had unfolded since he and Rory were reunited and he finally accepted the emotional significance of them. How he handles these challenges and the decisions he makes in their wake revealed so much about this character to the reader. Rory’s chance to grow as a character required her to face her family and eventually herself. Cassia Leo wrote Rory with a genuine vulnerability and understandable hesitancy that kept me feeling her struggle as she faced down the harsh realities of her world. Rory and Houston have a palpable connection that never fades. No matter what these two face, their undeniable chemistry and stunning connection continues to shine through, giving this series a magical quality that kept me enchanted.

Authentic to the tone of this series, The Way We Rise was not without several unexpected twists. Rory and Houston’s story unraveled in some ways I had desperately hoped for and in others I couldn’t have guessed. I loved that even after everything our characters had already been through, The Way We Rise still managed to surprise me. Emotionally, this book hit me hard. I found myself crying happy tears at even the smallest moments of joy, feeling deeply relieved to find glimpses of light amongst the darkness. I found this feeling to be the true measure of success in terms of this book, its demonstration of how deeply I had connected with the characters and events in the first two books. The Way We Rise was deeply satisfying, not only providing resolution to our couple’s journey but also delivering an exciting and comforting look into the future in the epilogue. Cassia Leo has truly outdone herself with this book and the entire series, leaving me with a book hangover it’ll be hard to relieve.

“This is how the story ends, with a promise of forever.”

The conclusion of a series is always my favorite because I can’t wait to see how everything plays out. I have loved this series since the beginning and I was so excited to read TWWR.

This was such an awesome end to a great series! The characters and the storyline were so fascinating. I really didn’t want it to end. Cassia did not disappoint with the conclusion of Rory’s and Houston’s story. Everything that needed to be answered was as we finished this journey. So much emotion and heart packed into this book but it flowed smoothly and beautifully. I just love seeing the growth in these characters. They were just real. From who they were and their personalities to the struggles and what happened in their lives. It wasn’t all just sunshine and roses. And that is what made the story that much more great in my opinion. You could feel what these characters were going through and that made it so much more heartfelt. I loved taking this ride and this book had my emotions going crazy but in a good way :). And what can I say about that epilogue?! Definitely one of the best. Cassia is a master at writing epilogues so I knew that this one would be great and man I just loved it! I will miss these characters so much. Everything about this book was brilliant-the plot, the characters, the delivery. I just loved this book (and series) so much! There is no other words for me to say but just that it was amazing and that everyone should read this!

The Way We Rise

How do you dream of a future with someone you love with everything you've got when your past remains a constant reminder of the pain you can't escape from? How do you stay with someone you love more than anything in the world when she's related to the person you hated the most?

When a story gets so muddled that you don't know anymore which way is up or down,it might be wise to take a step back and start again from the beginning. Then maybe, you'll finally get the story right.

That's exactly what Houston and Rory did in this final book. They started out their relationship the way it was supposed to be done - get to know each other and be friends, without grief, anger or guilt to influence their feelings and decisions.

Their journey taught them how to set aside all pride and resentment for the person you love. Their love was pure and unquestionable, but it wasn't without challenges. They went through so much and circumstances made it difficult to concentrate on that love without letting outside forces affect them. They needed to heal and let go of their fears and resentments first. But you can't erase love. Houston and Rory proved that.

Most endings come with new beginnings, and if you're lucky, you get a happy beginning to guide you to your happily ever after.

I was happy to take this journey with Houston and Rory and looking forward to more stories from the great mind of Cassia Leo.

BEAUTIFUL CONCLUSION!!! FIVE STARS!!!!

The Way We Rise was an amazing conclusion to The Story of Us Series. And, I'm not surprised to be saying that this is yet again, another great book by Cassia Leo! This book picks up where the second book left off. The story is told in both Rory and Houston's POV. Cassia's way of storytelling seems to suck you in from the first page and keep a hold on you until the very last page is read. This series has taken me on an emotional roller coaster ride with a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns, smiling, and downright ugly crying! I don't want to give anything away but if you've read the first two books then you know that Houston and Rory's story is an amazing story of friendship and love that goes back many years. Of course, they have had ups and downs and obstacles, so this is the final book that will answer all of your questions and you find out if Houston and Rory's love is strong enough to last or not. I definitely recommend that you read The Story Of Us Series which includes The Way We Rise. Cassia Leo has done it again with a beautifully written love story! I'm really disappointed for the series to be over but I'm anxiously awaiting Cassia Leo's next book. But, this is a MUST READ, FIVE Stars!!!

After everything that Rory and Houston have been through, it shouldn't have surprised me that there were still more secrets to reveal, but there were. This conclusion wraps up all the remaining questions and loose ends from the previous 2 books. Rory and Houston's relationship may not be able to have a fresh start, but they deserve to make it better. There's a lot to overcome, though, from all the grief and hardships they've experienced to get to this point that they are still building mutual trust and respect.

I really love the way Houston loves Rory. I wasn't too sure about him in the first book but he has really shown how much he cares about her and makes her a priority. He is adamant that they do not repeat their mistakes. Rory herself matures quite a bit, too. This segment wasn't as angsty as the previous ones and gives the reader a great glimpse of the stronger and better version of Houston and Rory's relationship as it should have been, but would not have gotten to this point without everything that did happen.
