The Death and Life of River Song: War Widow

Rate this book
River Song is dragged into the madness of the Time War, alongside a Doctor who never wanted to fight that battle. River thinks she knows where their paths will take them, but the temporal battlegrounds are shifting - and she can no longer take anything for granted. Not even her own existence.

4.1 The Shape of Fear - The Stormcage is attacked by creatures recruiting for the Time War, and the Doctor saves its most dangerous prisoner. He takes River into hiding on a remote world, whose rulers reject science. But spectres stalk the unwary, as the land itself becomes the enemy. And when the Doctor is lost, River discovers that the worst thing to do is to become emotional.

4.2 Bad Timing - River knows this Doctor's time is almost over. She can’t save him, but he wants to save her. Trying to escape the Time War, they end up deeper inside it, on a Time Lord mission threatening the fabric of causality. But the Daleks are to blame for the Doctor’s fate - and River will make them pay.

4.3 Unchained Melodies - River Song takes a moment to find herself, to discover her true potential... and put a stop to it before it even gets started! Is she the Woman Who Killed the Doctor? Or the Woman Who Wins the War? In the maelstrom that is the Time War, she can be both and neither all at once.

The Reality Director - We go behind the scenes of the making of the latest River Song adventure with cast and crew.

Currently I am staying in Granada Spain for a weeks holliday while I pass into my sixties already. During the flight towards Spain I had planned the listen of the voice of the glorious Alex Kingston as River Song in a Big Finish production. I had been gifted by my wife a brand New JBL headphone, which I forgot at home, silly old me. Bought a cheap set of earplugs to enjoy Kingston and of course Paul McGann as the Doctor. The 8th Doctor has always been a reason to listen BF.
THE SHAPE OF FEAR- in which River Song gets rescued by the 8th Doctor on the eve of a big moment in the Doctor his life, his next regeneration.
The Stormcage, the safest prison in the Galaxy, is being attacked and the Doctor comes to take its most dangerous prisoner away. The 8th Doctor has no other knowledge about River Song yet.
It is during the Timewar when the Doctor takes River to a place he hopes is safe for her to be and is as yet not spoiled by the war between Dalek and Timelords.
This is an emotional tale for River as she knows the Doctors' future.

BAD TIMING- The 8th Doctor has figured out that River Song is important for him in his next life so he wants to protect her to be safe in a universe Ripper apart by the time war.
However they land or get caught by a place outside of the universe where logic and causality has very little place and it Will possibly kill the Doctor. A place that no longer excists the Daleks fight the Timelords and they capture the Doctor which offers them a path to a doomsday weapon. But nobody takes the Doctor away from River Song certainly not some puny army of Daleks.

UNCHAINED MELODIES- the title is a great pun upon the first life of Melody Pond who gave up her regenerations after changing into River Song in order to safe the Doctor in 30's Berlin.
Now she comes face to face with her other lives she would have had if she had not saved the Doctor.
All of these lives had stalked the 10 know Doctors to assassinate each version of the Doctor and had failed nonetheless. What would a univverse be without the Doctor? And what would each regeneration do if the original Melody Pond gets her way in killing the Doctor so she keeps her 13 lives, not unlike a Timelord.
A brilliant tale albeit a wee bit timey wimey but what do you expect of a tale from the Timewar. River Song solo adventure again.

Two of the 3 tales has the 8th Doctor and he and Professor Song make a soectacular team albeit an uneasy one. The 3rd story is a solo Story of River Song and all her possible regenerations would the Doctor have died and is wicked fun but nuts with a capital N.

This is a great collection but only if you are invested in the Whoniverse otherwise it Will be confusing as heck. Absolute fun for the doctor Who fans.
Kingston not only still looks sexy and amazing her voice can still melt Butterfly like the Sahara sun.
