"Naam: Inspector Abhay Pandey, Uttar Pradesh Police, sheher Allahabad. If you read newspapers, naam toh suna hee hoga.

Kaam: Maintaining public order, ordering the hawaldars, patrolling in my jeep and giving rides to women in need.

Shauk: Haseeno ko bachaana, gundon aur politicians ki bajaana. Fir chhamiya party mein nachnagana. I like murder investigations the way I like my women - mysterious, complicated, and with a (killer) body.

A murder: An unidentified body is found in the public toilet with Naina's photograph and a huge sum of money. Was he out to kill her?

A secret: There is a dark secret from her past that Naina is unable to remember. Does the secret hold the key to solving the case? As new secrets are unravelled, I begin to realize that everybody from her past has something to hide. This is much more than a simple murder case. Come, let's find the Killer in the Shadows!"

My first impression of the book after reading the blurb was that it is ‘Dabangg’ in a book instead of on screen. And viola, our protagonist, Inspector Abhay Pandey makes his entrance in the book to the tune of Dabangg! I know! I did ask myself if I was ready to waste couple of hours on mindless masala stuff. But the one line in the blurb had caught my attention – ‘I found Naina with a bloodstained knife at her house. Has she killed someone?’ So I picked up the book with hopes of finishing it off in a couple of hours either way.

The story starts with an unidentified body being found at a public toilet. Police discovers Naina’s photograph and a large sum of money on him. On the other hand Naina has received a call threatening her life. Everybody around Naina seems to have some secret that they want to keep buried, but they are nothing compared to Naina’s own secret. Will the bindaas inspector be able to find the culprit or will all the secrets surrounding the case prove to be too much for him?

I have to say, the plot had great potential. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of it thoroughly. The author has included a thorough dose of twists and turns that keeps a reader second guessing about who the killer might be. However, the fact remains that I just could not shake off the feeling of déjà vu at certain points where Abhay Pandey and Chulbul Pandey felt like one and the same. And that is where the reading experience lagged for me. Even if I accept the fact that Abhay Pandey is a great fan of Salman Khan / Chulbul Pandey, it was just a wee bit too much for my liking. I like strong and original characters Abhay Pandey ends up being neither for the lack of proper development.

Amit Nangia clearly shows potential and I hope that he will develop his protagonist to be more original and indulging in the coming instalments of Daring Daroga.

Its Mind-Ravishing Thriller ! I Picked the book after Reading Review of one my Senior Blogger .
Starting with the Front Cover ,Name of the Book " DARING DAROGA " Tagged in Yellow colour and beneath it is the Artistic view of a Police Officer with a red scarff tied along neck , a Police Jeep and a hand gripping Knife . And in the bottom of very cover lies the extended name of book " KILLER IN THE EXTENDED SHADOWS ! " and name of the author " AMIT NANGIA " .
On Back Cover lies a basic bio data of the protagonist and Gist of the book and Author with Dark green background on the whole except the orange flame on low-left corner .
Coming to Inside View :
No Doubt , Writing is flawless and self-page-turner . Author had described his Protagonist , Inspector Abhey Pandey, as a fearless police official who drives his jeep with Music system playing Bollywood songs staring salman khan .Basically the concept of Police inspector is taken from the Bollywood Movie Dabang . Author had embedded characters like Shukla Ji and Mishra ji to make the plot humorous with their actions .
Writing flung open with dead body of a man found in a Public Toilet , with a photograph of a woman named Nisha Sinah in his pocket with bundle of Bucks . Naina Sinha recieved threatning calls , followed by an attempt to kill her . Her life is filled with deep secrets and everybody from her past had something to hide . Her parents were killed years ago and every rotten thing going on since the day she landed in her birth-town convinced her that it was linked to her parents murder .
Author had made the plot hilarious by pushing some stances like Someone's buffalos had been stolen and Chamiya Fund .
In all I found this book truly riveting , which keep the reader hooked till last page and ensures a Bang-for-the-bucks Book:) . Only Situation that incur while reading , which makes it a bit difficult pick for Non-Hindi background readers , is that there are stances where Author had put Dialogues in Roman Hindi . I Think , author had to put translated version of dialogues in English .
Otherwise its Dabang Book :)

Amit Nangia's Daring Daroga: Killer in the Shadows! is a Srishti Quickie which makes it so easy to read because the book is short and entertaining. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this mystery that revolves around the life of Naina, a girl who can't escape her past, mainly because she barely remembers it and inspector Abhay Pandey, a hot shot police officer who is good at whatever he does. This short story had everything from romance to action to comedy to politics and some Bollywood thrown in here and there. The latter had me annoyed sometimes, but the story was very good. Like I said, I wasn't expecting this to be such a good read, because sexism and objectification in books makes me cringe. And it did with this as well. But if I put that aside, Daring Daroga: Killer in the Shadows! was a thrilling and enjoyable read. Not much into mysteries, this one had me at the edge of my seat because I couldn't figure out who the killer was until the very end, and although as a whole, it was really mediocre, the journey was fun, and that's what matters anyway.

This was the first quick reads i have taken and i am happy the publishers have got this unique idea, it was such a pleasure reading such a thrilling novel in just a single day, devoting only around 3 hours. its more like a movie. Overall the book is a very good read if one has a less time and an urge to read. I bet once you start you won't put the book down until you complete, and even if you do, you won't sleep without completing it.

A good masala fiction , Nice attempt but overall it seems filmier. The time frame and the incidence happened in story is not fully convincing.
I must say more work is needed to work on the storyline and characters.

How come in the age of 20ties anyone can become a successful lawyer ...?
How come a friend of 6year old girl can kill her parents..?

lots of question....but for masala fiction lover they can read.....

Full dabang Pandey jii's estyle ;-)
