Between Departures: An Age Gap Billionaire Workplace Romance

Rate this book
Samantha Hayes has spent years building a life that has nothing to do with her last name. Instead of joining her family’s billion-dollar empire, she became a flight attendant. Choosing freedom, new cities, and a life lived somewhere between departures.

Then Theodore Jones takes seat 1A.

Their chemistry follows them off the plane and straight into a Paris layover neither of them intends to forget. It’s supposed to be temporary. One city. One night. No expectations. Until Sam discovers Theo isn’t just another first-class passenger. He’s the newly appointed CEO of Hayes International. Her father’s company.

Suddenly, the man she was never supposed to see again is standing at the center of the world she spent years running from. And when Sam finds herself pulled back into the family business, staying away from Theo becomes impossible, especially when their attraction turns into something neither of them planned for.

Between Departures is a steamy contemporary romance featuring an age gap, forbidden workplace romance, CEO × heiress, flight attendant × passenger, family drama, billionaire romance, forced proximity, and a heroine who would rather be anywhere than where everyone expects her to be.

💙✈️Between Departures✈️💙

By K.V. Thorn

|FIVE ⭐️’s|

Between departures is the first installment to the Love in Transit series. The story follows Samantha Hayes, a flight attendant who is also the billionaire heiress to her father’s company that she wants no part of, that is until she decides to later join the company. And then there’s Theodore Jones, the new CEO to Samantha’s father’s company and a self-made billionaire.

The story is mostly set in NYC where the company is located, but Paris is where it began. It’s where Sam and Theo began as nothing more than two people meeting on a flight and wanting a brief moment of fun, but that transient state became more, it gradually turned into something lasting. Something special, something beautiful. Paris will always mean more than just a quick stop to Sam and Theo.

Sam is such an exciting character in the most beautifully, powerful and chaotic way. She forges her own path instead of doing what is expected of her. She’s strong and clever and figuring out who she wants to be. And she can be quite funny with a bit of a smart mouth which is most definitely saved for Theo lol Sam’s conflict with her family and her families life values were evident throughout the story, but you could see her strive to overcome it on her own time and you feel as though you were going through it yourself.

Theo had me at seat 1A. Wait that kinda sounds dirty…..but don’t worry, I won’t reveal any spoilers, so you’ll just have to read this book to find out all the spicy bits. Okay, but on a serious note though, let’s talk about Theadore Jones. Theo is just down right glorious. He’s a very well rounded character who is everything you want and NEED in a man. He may be all business-like at times, but he is the most thoughtful, gentle, patient and genuine person when it comes to the people in his life. He’s perfection. And he is everything Sam needs in her life to keep her grounded with calmness, supportiveness and that undiluted love she deserves.

I was full heartedly swooning over the growth of friendship and love between Sam and Theo. There was never any doubt between the two, only reluctance due to working together which quickly ended because they knew they couldn’t deny what they had for one another, it was a pull that couldn’t be tamed. I absolutely loved all of the little special moments between them, the lingering looks, the touches and that quiet support. But also can we talk about their tension….!? I could feel it take a hold of me and I was gasping for release. It was mutual and respectful and downright sinful in the most pleasurable ways!

The MC’s friends and siblings…omg I’m obsessed!! Each one brings such an incredible and unique personality to the forefront of the book that really helps shape the story. Rose and Nico are the most supportive friends to Sam and Theo and I adore the bonds they have. Harper is such a serious and professional character and basically keeps Theo’s whole life in check, but I know hidden somewhere there’s a softer side to her which I can’t wait to explore in a future book! Naomi has a lot of layers to her that I hope we get to peel back in future books and really get to know her more on a deeper level. And Elana, Theo’s sister is such a fun character. She’s bubbly and free spirited and walks her own path. I can see how quickly she bonded with Sam because they have the same self values and I can’t wait to see their friendship continue to grow! I just absolutely loved all of these characters so much and they felt completed.

💙Tropes💙
•Airplane flight meet cute
•Layover temporary romance
•Hidden identity
•Age gap
•Billionaire Romance
•Forced workplace proximity
•He falls first
•She stays for him
•His love language is Showing

The writing and the plot was masterfully done. A picture was painted clearly, as was a beautiful love story. The transitions throughout were smooth and felt real, as did every moment within the book. Each step of the MC’s journey to finding themselves and to being with each other was also felt, it was felt deeply. I was so invested in them and seeing their happiness and growth unfold. The love was gentle, patient and smokin’ hot, in the good way lol Was it by chance or fate that they encountered one another on the same flight to Paris that day!? Who knows, but I sure am glad it happened and to have gotten to know these characters!

Favorite quotes/moments that define the book:
-We aren’t just in transit, we are the transit. The calm in the chaos, the smiles before takeoff.
Everything that happens between departures.
-He’s controlled and composed, and beginning a new life. She’s fiercely independent, hiding more than just her last name”
-Pull up your skir*, sit on the desk, and open your leg*
-Scratch the ‘I hate you’, I absolutely love you, Theodore Jones……….
I will spend the rest of my life making sure she never doubts that she belongs anywhere she wants to be.
Especially with me.
“I love you too, Samantha Jones.”

I just want to humbly say thank you to author K.V. Thorn for trusting me to Beta read a copy of the first book to her newest romance series! I truly enjoyed every single moment of this book. It was more than I could have imagined and completely got me out of a reading slump. It was the romance refresher I not only needed, but wanted 🥰 I cannot wait for the next book in the series! 💙

Thank you so much to the author K.V. Thorn for providing me with an ARC of Between Departures ✈️🩵

Honestly, this felt like a comeback read for me because I don’t usually pick up contemporary romances the way I used to… and omfg I didn’t realize how much I missed them 🥺

✨ Tropes you’ll find:
☆ Hidden identity
☆ Billionaire romance
☆ He falls first
☆ Layover romance
☆ Age gap
☆ Forced proximity
☆ Workplace romance

Between Departures is the first book in the Love in Transit series and follows Samantha Hayes, a billionaire heiress turned flight attendant who later joins her father’s company, and Theodore Jones, the new CEO of her father’s company.

The story starts in Paris, where they meet as strangers, which is described as something “temporary” but somehow it becomes the place where their most defining moments happen. Even though most of the story unfolds in NYC, Paris lingers in a way that slowly turns into something permanent 🥹

The writing is truly beautiful. It’s not just about romance, it’s about expectations, loneliness, burnout and that feeling of wanting to escape even when everything on the outside looks perfect.

Samantha AKA Sam is such a fun character. She’s smart, chaotic, stubborn, funny, and a little all over the place in the best way. She feels like someone who’s always running but convincing herself she just likes to keep moving. Her struggles with family expectations and wanting freedom felt very real. I loved that she chose her own path on her own terms 🩷

“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥.”

And Theo… yeah I’m fucking gone for him 😮‍💨 I don’t even know how many times I swooned over this man. He’s calm, composed, and the complete opposite of Sam. A proper gentleman, but also so caring, thoughtful and supportive. And when it comes to Sam?? He’s completely obsessed with her.

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘐 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵.”

Their chemistry was so well done. It wasn’t just loud or over the top, it was in the small things. The glances, the quiet conversations, the tension built through proximity. And what made it even better was the mutual respect and maturity between them 🫶 (THE SPICY SCENES... HOLY FUCK AHHH 😳🔥)

“𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘧 𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵, 𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘦𝘴.”

What I loved the most is how this story truly lives in the “in-between.” Between flights, between conversations, between who they were and who they were becoming.

Also, the friendships?? I loved them so much. Rose was supportive from the very beginning and honestly we all need a friend like her 🥺 Nico was hilarious every single time he showed up and I adored him. And Harper being the ultimate wingwoman?? That was so fun to read. And the way all of them teased Sam and Theo!!? I was busy cackling 🤣🤣

I seriously can’t wait for the next book in the series… and I already have a feeling about who it might be 🤭

ARC REVIEW 💙✈️

"I spent most of my life running, not because I didn't want love. But because I didn't think I deserved something that would stay with me. But you, you don't feel like a trap. You feel like home."

This is the first book in the Love in transit series and follows a swoony, high chemistry romance full of self discovery, new beginnings, and learning to let someone truly see you.

I had such a good time reading this book. It was cute and emotional read that completely pulled me in from the start. Sam and Theo first met on a flight to Paris and continue running into each other afterwards, and from the beginning their chemistry was undeniable. I loved all the in between and little moments they shared before they officially got together because the tension between them was so good.

Sam and Theo are complete opposites in the best way and balance each other so well. She’s independent, funny, and a little chaotic, while he is more reserved and composed. But he’s also incredibly thoughtful and supportive of Sam, completely over heels for her in the sweetest way.

I also really loved the side characters and the friendships, especially the bond between Sam and Rose, and later with the other girls. The writing style was easy to connect with, and for this being my first book by the author, I’m already excited to read more from her and see where the series goes next!

Tropes:

You put a grumpy billionaire with a cute as can be flight attendant and you have some FUNNNN🤭

This was such a cute, fun, spicy and fast read🙂‍↕️ Theres nothing I love more than forced proximity. First them meeting immediately on the flight, SPARKS. I loved her constantly checking on him, the small talks and looks and her remembering his drink order. ALSO HER NICKNAME FOR HIM!!

Sam was such a beautiful character down to her core. She knew what she wanted and she took HIM😏 She instantly knew who she was but still decided to play with fire and I LOVE THAT LOL. Knowing her father was sick she decided to end her career as a flight attendant and work for her new book man *cough cough* the man she screwed not long before. What a baddie🫡 Her character growth was so stunning. She was a Spicy little vixen 🤭

Theo....Taking a shot everytime I said "dear god" at the words that came out his mouth. OBLITERATED. This man was so swoony. Tried to stay away but couldnt. The age gap? Perfection. The tension? Chefs kiss. The office scenes. Read one handed😏 But in all honesty, what a hunk of a man. He was respectful but also made sure to tell someone to back the fuck up if they even looked at Sam wrong. King❤️‍🔥

Will forever love them and how obsessed he was. The ending has me craving MOREEEEE!!! I need book 2 like air. 😭

Thank you for this amazing arc and the opportunity to read and review 🥹

A flight attendant, a successful businessman, and a connection neither of them saw coming. ✈️❤️‍🔥

Found this book through a non-reader recommendation (haha)… AKA my fav cousin. 😂💗

I really enjoyed this contemporary romance! The chemistry, romance, and spicy moments between the MCs kept me glued to the book. Not gonna lie, the slow burn was INTENSE, and I was absolutely loving it. 😮‍💨🔥

I’m glad the age gap didn’t feel as significant as I initially imagined. Since Theo was still fairly young, their dynamic felt natural, and it never made the story feel awkward.

And Sam? I really liked her as a character! ✨ I admired her independence and how determined she was to make a name for herself on her own terms instead of relying on her family’s money, even though she could have easily done so. Loved how confident she was with Theo.

Now, Theo… this man had me swooning throughout the entire book. 🫠❤️‍🔥 Where can I find a hot CEO who treats me like that?! Ughhh… so perfectly annoying.

I really, really loved Theo and Sam’s story, and I can’t wait to read book 2 of the Love in Transit series!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this one. Sam and Theo were such an unexpected pair and I honestly loved watching their story unfold.

I liked how they met on the flight and how things just happened between them without either of them really planning for it. Their time in Paris was probably one of my favorite parts because the chemistry between them was so good. But once they went back to their normal lives, things definitely got complicated.

Theo was quiet and a little hard to figure out at first, but I really liked seeing his softer side with Sam. And Sam was easy to root for too. She had her own things going on and I liked that she wasn’t just written around the romance.

There were definitely moments where I wanted to yell at both of them 😂, especially when they weren’t being completely honest with each other, but I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know how everything would work out.

I loved the travel setting, the chemistry, the drama and just the whole unexpectedness of their relationship.

Definitely a 5 star read for me. Sam and Theo had me hooked. ❤️

Thank you so much to the author for the arc! I couldn't put it down. I read it in less than 24 hours and im pretty sure Theo is one of the best book boyfriends ever.

Hes attentive, protective and such a caring man. The banter between him & Sam is so great, I want more of their story. Im so glad this is book 1, even if the other books follow other characters im good with that because everyone i met in book one is memorable.

There's some spice but not so much spice we lose plot. K.V Thorn writes in a way that pulls me in from page one and im so excited to read anything else she puts out.

I think id also include found family as a trope for this one because I felt it as more people were introduced.

Do yourself a favor and add this one to your tbr!

Honest review in exchange for an ARC

Oh my God! This was so beautiful, tender, and indescribably gorgeous. I probably don't have enough words in my vocabulary to express the emotions this book gave me. To be honest, I’ve been craving a book as sweet and spicy as "Between Departures" by K. V. Thorn for a long time.
Let’s talk about the plot!🖇️
Samantha Hayes is the heiress to Hayes International, a flight attendant, and an absolute beauty. Sam ran away from her father’s suffocating legacy and chose freedom in the form of endless skies and airplanes. Theodore Jones is a successful billionaire with a great sense of humor and a huge... with heart😏
I love how their relationship develops through effortless conversations and getting to know each other. The plot twist with Sam’s integration into the corporation and Theo’s reaction was played out so well 😂 And as for the hot scenes, no words are needed, you just have to devour them!
I loved absolutely everything about this book, including the side characters. I’ve already picked out a couple who I hope will get the second book (at the very least... 😍)
Thank you K. V. Thorn for the opportunity to be among the first to board the "Between Departures" story 🥰

Heiress x CEO office romance with found family was everything.
Sam & Theo's relationship felt like insta-love not that I'm complaining.
This story felt empowering where she's an independant woman with realistic family dynamics, and a hero who is able to love her for who she is absolute perfection.
But still I wanted to know more about Sam's background her relationship with her sister Naomi. I loved Rose & Sams bond so much they were soulmates!! Their moments had my heart😩🥹🥹🤧❤️‍🩹
Can't wait for the Naomi's & Nico's book!!

This is the second book by K.V. Thorn that I've read, and it was ABSOLUTELY beautiful. The pacing was honestly amazing, in both the spicy scenes, as well as their relationship. I have a certain kinship to “quickly developing” relationships considering mine was very fast. I don't have an ounce of regret about that, and that's a big part of why this book felt so special. It truly was all so sweet and beautifully written.

I’m obsessed with Theo and Sam; they were simply perfect. There was an instant connection, great communication between them, spice (and what spice!), and funny moments. It was incredible. We get to see some of Sam’s reluctance to start a serious relationship, but with Theo’s persistence and understanding, she eventually gives in. We also see the boundaries Sam sets with her family and the company, as well as the sisters building a closer relationship.Theo is a man who knows what he wants: from the moment he accepts that he can’t live without Sam, he goes above and beyond to win her over. He is so hot — there’s no other word to describe him (hahaha). The moments in Paris were especially romantic. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!

Theo is the ultimate book husband! This book was so deliciously sexy; the tension, the flirtiness, omg those spicy scenes were on point, and those characters (main and friends) were so lovable. I absolutely loved this story. The slow burn was AHHHHH 🤌🏼 exactly how I like it. The tension stayed RIGHT THERE without feeling rushed, and everything developed at its own pace. I LOVE THAT.

I also connected with this story on a more personal level because the main character is a flight attendant, just like me. There were so many little moments and feelings I could relate to, and it was really special seeing pieces of a life I know so well woven into a romance. 🥹

I really enjoyed the way K.V. Thorn wrote this book. The writing felt natural, easy to get into, and kept me wanting to read more just to see when that slow burn was finally going to BURN. 😂🔥

I genuinely enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Romance, traveling, tension, and a slow burn that actually knew how to take its time. ✈️💙

Between Departures was a fast-paced, emotional, and cute read.

Theo and Sam meet on a flight to Paris, instantly click, and keep unexpectedly crossing paths throughout the city. Sam hides the fact that she’s the heiress to the company Theo was just appointed CEO of, wanting one thing in her life untouched by her family’s name. Of course, she never expected to end up working directly for him days later.

Their chemistry felt effortless from the start, but what stood out most was how much the story focused on the “in-between” moments. Between flights, conversations, and the people they were becoming.

The friend group was also a highlight. They felt supportive, honest, and refreshingly real.

I’m already curious who the next book will follow because I’ll definitely be continuing this series!
