From the author of Feels Like Family, a Netflix Book Club Pick!
Don't miss this acclaimed Adams Dynasty story from New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods about learning to fall in love again.
Texan Dani Adams was through with single dads. Never again would she brush away their children's tears or bandage scraped knees. Instead, she'd care for the sick animals brought to her veterinary practice. She'd find fulfillment—without the heartache.
So, darn Duke Jenkins and his adorable twins. The sexy single dad had just moved to town…and he was determined to make Dani his kids' mother! His soul-searing kisses, warm embraces and his children's antics were quickly melting her resolve. But was Dani heading for another disappointment…or down the aisle to meet her groom?
With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
I didn't like the Hero and that makes this book very bad. He was always flirting and smiling like some teenager , he never seemed like a single parent handling 8 yr old twins, Ohh and so infuriating. Duh , he was not even serious when he proposed marriage. And I think the less we talk about the h and her family the better -_-
It's worth noting that the only reason I picked this up us because it came as a 2-fer along with the last book I read - The Littlest Angel.
This one was, thankfully, a bit better than the last. But not by much.
The love story is undercut by the main man just wanting to manipulate himself into a relationship so his two boys get a mom. And he's taking advantage of a woman who has a soft spot for kids and has already been burned by a single father. The main gal's feelings are completely understandable, down to her desire to not put herself through that particular brand of heartache again. So it made it very hard to root for them.
As these things go, of course the guy eventually realizes his scheming has backfired and he's caught real, actual feelings for her, himself. And that would be a 'yay' moment for the book if it didn't happen in the penultimate chapter, and if it wasn't immediately followed by the two of them essentially saying "eh, well, ok then..." and deciding to get married.
The whole thing was just so rushed by the end that it all felt disengenuine.
Also -- the entire family needs to learn to stop meddling. It's entirety over-the-top and obnoxious.
Dani Adams was through with single dads and the ready-made family. Then she meets precocious twins and their dad. Duke Jenkins takes a job that has him behind a desk instead out in the field. But he does what is best for his two boys. When he meets the local vet she stirs up feelings he wants to pursue. Then he discovers that she is the daughter of his new boss. Dani is determined to never get involved with another single father. Duke is just as determined to make her his little boys new mother. The heat between them is undeniable. Dani tries to resist. But with Duke's determination, the twins antics and the Adams family meddling she does not stand a chance.
I had a hard time getting into the story but eventually I started enjoying the story. Then I couldn't put my kindle down! I can't wait to go into the next series book.....
I have loved this whole series, but the capers of Duke's boys in this story provides a lot of cute action. Sheryl Woods has a lot of "laugh out loud" lines to the story.
A cute read. Cheryl never disappoints in her romantic reads. Gives you a real good warm feeling on a very cold day as I am sitting here at 12° and snow. This book really brightened me up
