Three years as Subject O-00 taught him everything he needed to scientists lie, alphas are dangerous, and talking to yourself is a perfectly valid coping mechanism. When the facility collapses and the experiments escape, Zero does what any rational omega would do.
He runs straight into Colt.
Colt is an alpha soldier with blood on his hands and exactly zero patience for a mouthy lab omega who won't stop narrating his own catastrophe. He didn't come here to find him. He also didn't plan to keep him.
Now the city is burning. The monsters are loose. And somewhere between a collapsing lab and six blocks of running through the wasteland, mine stopped feeling like a threat and started feeling like something else entirely.
Zero has one survive. Three years in a cage built him for worse.
But an alpha who looks at him like he's something worth keeping — in a world that only ever saw him as a subject?
That's the variable he didn't calculate for.
Omega Zero is a dark, slow-burn MM omegaverse prequel set in a post-apocalyptic world. Expect sharp wit, a feral alpha, a chaotic omega, enemies-to-something-dangerous, and a love story that starts in a burning city and refuses to be reasonable about it.
HEA guaranteed. The chaos is complimentary.
Content dystopian/apocalyptic setting, lab experimentation, power dynamics, pheromone attraction, violence, dark humor, and a narrator who will not stop narrating. Sexual tension only - explicit content begins in Book One.
Book Zero of the Omega Protocol series. Continues in Omega Protocol.
This is alright for what it is, but if you're looking for anything of substance...there isn't any in this work. Pretty poor implementation of the omegaverse trope. It definitely reads like it was adapted from a forum rp.
An actual quote here: “I can smell you, Omega,” a rough voice growls in the dark, “I’m coming for you.” “Bring pizza,” I whisper.
So apparently this lab rat who has been locked up his whole life has (a) cringe 2013 era millennial humor and (b) apparently been given pizza at some point in his life during or between stints in solitary confinement.
Another quote for consideration: "They're the same thought." "They have different academic framings," I whine, and then bite down hard on the inside of my cheek.
Again, isolated science experiment has apparently had a formal education enough to argue semantics.
If that sort of stuff doesn't break your immersion you'll probably like this. It's otherwise pretty fast paced and doesn't waste a lot of time on exposition. That said, the characters end up pretty flat and the verisimilitude of the universe is dubious at best.
I didn’t totally dislike this book, in fact I intend to check out the next book in the series when it’s released, but overall it was hard for me to get into the story. There are a lot of repetitions and reworded sentences or paragraphs in every chapter saying the same stuff. Sometimes there is contradictory information. The book description is a bit misleading and I definitely wouldn’t describe Colt as feral.
Zero’s backstory is confusing and honestly the whole world is a pretty big mystery. Zero has been in this particular facility for 3 years but where was he before that, no clue. Colt’s POV gives the impression that omega experimentation is something he’s seen before so that sets a bit of a tone for the world but we don’t see anything happening in the outside world until Zero and him escape the facility after the explosions. Was it normal day to day life stuff or has it always been apocalyptic and abandoned above the facility that Zero was in? I’m not sure. I really wanted to like this book but I just thunk it needs more work and editing.
Holy sh!t! I truly loved this one! While only a prequel novella, I am completely invested in the storyline and Zero and Colt‘s relationship. I was getting Felix from Brainwashed by Nyla K vibes from Zero with how he processes the world around him and I am here for it. The way Zero and Colt analyzed each other while trying to pretend not to had me on the edge of my seat for them to be together. And when Zero‘s omega biology started to fully kick in? My heart rate picked up tenfold. I can’t wait to see how Zero and Colt‘s relationship progresses, and learn more about the other experiments, in Omega Protocol!
I absolutely adore Zero already. I cannot wait for the next book bc I'm already so invested. For a prequel it really delivers so much and I just want to know what happens next.
This is already a delight and Zero must be protected at all cost. 100% I really cant wait to see the full extent of their story, I LOVE the idea of feral omegas and Zero is hilarious had me cackling! Colt also deserves gold stars for having the patience of a saint lmao
I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I usually dont read novellas as I believe that they usually lack substance but this one was funny and enjoyable. I liked Zero's narrative voice and I am intrigued by Colt. I am looking forward to learning more about them.
I took off 1 star because of the following reasons: 1) While the introduction was funny, they were about 4 journal type introductions, and that felt, weird. 2) I was frustrated by the time skip between the explosion and the chair escape. That felt lazy because saying that someone escaped "for some reason," is insufficient. 3) The logistics of the catching scene was confusing. 4) Another time skip from entering a building to walking again. 5) Why didnt the author just write a full length book 1 instead of a novella?
Omega Zero is one of those reads that pulls you in fast, scrambles your brain a little, and somehow has you laughing while you’re trying to piece everything together. It’s a quick read, but it doesn’t hold your hand and honestly, that’s part of the charm. You’re dropped into the chaos, expected to keep up, and left connecting dots that don’t quite line up yet.
The story has this slightly disorienting edge, where you’re not entirely sure what’s happening or who you can trust, but instead of being frustrating, it keeps you hooked. And just when things start to feel intense or unclear, Zero’s commentary catches you off guard. It’s the kind of writing that has you giggling in the middle of the madness, wondering how you’re both confused and entertained at the same time. And then it ends. Not neatly, not cleanly, just enough to make you realize you absolutely need the next book to fill in the blanks. It’s the kind of ending that leaves you staring at the page thinking, “Wait… that’s it?” in the best and most impatient way. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
What a prequel! I thoroughly enjoyed this novella and I am really looking forward to the next book. I like the dark humour and writing style very much especially after a 6 month reading slump.
Quite dense writing, really short. It says it is a prequel but I felt that it was like the first couple of chapters with nothing really finished. Just kind of sets up the next book. Not sure if I am keen on that.

I got this book from the author as an ARC reader, and let me tell you what, I honestly couldnt put it down. It is a short read prequel that leads to the next book and I loved reading it. It gives you a taste of the main characters and the world they are a part of as well as a good start to the beginning of the series. The MMC Zero has the type of personality that is interesting to read the interactions of with his dark humor and lightning quick intelligence of understanding what is going on around him. While Colt seems like a stead firm force who is not quite thrilled with the self narration Zero has developed as a coping mechanism after being imprisoned and experimented on. These two started as strangers but it short time are starting to become more aware of eachother. Im excited to see where the heated tension they are beginning to experience goes and develops into. I truely can't wait to get my hands on the 2nd book once it is out.
I love myself a good omegaverse MM book! Once I saw what this book was going to be about I knew I had to read it. For being a first work from this author, I absolutely loved this prequel to the unpublished book 1. This really opened up the storyline and give you an idea for what book 1 will bring. The world building and dialogue have been written beautifully. I love how Zero talks with his “supposed to be” inner thoughts. It bring another layer to the character that I absolutely love. The growing relationship between Zero and Colt is so warming and special. I cannot wait for his first heat with his fated. Hate to be left hanging like that but it just makes me even more excited about book one.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves omegaverse and slow burn books that will make you kick your get while reading.
I really liked Zero. He’s a pretty funny character with a lot of potential. I can see him getting annoying pretty quickly, but in a fun and lovable way. As for Colt, there isn’t too much to go off other than his personality is the opposite of Zero, but it’s clear there’s more to him that will hopefully be revealed later. The two of them are forced together, trying to escape and survive, which makes for an interesting dynamic.
The story itself was interesting. A lot happens in a short time to set up for the book. I think there’s a lot of potential with this story and im interested to see where it goes
I received this book as an ARC reader from the author. Initially, I took a few pages to really get into the narration style of the book. I quickly realized that I adore Zero. The way he talks himself through high stress situations is extremely relatable, and his monologue (internal and external) is fantastic. The prequel really set the stage for what the story's world looks like, and I cannot wait to dive into the next book to learn more about the obstacles Zero and Colt will face together and how their relationship will grow in future installments.
The start was so promising. I loved Zero’s character and voice and the premise of the story was intriguing. But then…
“[adj.]. Not the [adj.] of [something}. But the [adj.] of [nonsensical metaphor].” “The kind of ___ that [anthropomorphic action].” “[verb]. Not [adv]. Not [adv.] [Adv.] [Avv. And simile].”
The occasional curly quote or curly apostrophe in a sea of straight quotes and apostrophes also hints at something. I’m not flat out accusing anyone of anything. But as soon as the suspicious structures began to clutter any actual plot…
Zero is an amazingly done character. He is a one of a kind omega who took his bad situation into his own hands. Colt is day one on the job and knows the minute he sees Zero that he is a unique individual. What becomes total chaos follows and keeps you on the edge waiting for the next moment. The characters are done very well and the world building is wonderful.
I have been waiting for this book since I first saw it and wasn’t sure what to expect with this being a new author to me. But it did not disappoint! Zero definitely makes you fall in love with him. I loved his character and his chattyness 😄. I’m looking forward to the next book and watching Colt and Zero’s relationship grow ❤️.
Instantly hooked! I adore reading from Zero's perspective because it seems to put me into the story. His attitude resonates with me as well, being similar to that of one of my own characters I write. This was definitely a story that I couldn't put down and simply cannot wait to read more when released! I implore you to read this story. It is... addicting. In the best way.
Received as an ARC copy. I’ve never read an omegaverse dystopian before but I’m glad I had the opportunity. Zero and Colt definitely has me needing more. The curiosity of what’s to come… will they survive the unknown roaring creature? Will they give in to each others scent? Such a great read! Recommend 💯
I love the snark that Zero does all the time. When he meets Colt and he is an Alpha and he tries to help Zero navigate the apocslypse that is what has happen to the Earth. They are being chased by something. Colt wants to help and still tries to take control of the situation even though Zero has a spatial awarness. Love this and will be reading Omega Protocol next.
If there is one thing I love its well written unhinged characters and I love Zero. I am absolutely looking forward to diving into this series. I want to know more about this world. I want to know the characters and I am excited to read it. I am glad I took my time and read this prequel slowly. I am excited for the next part of the story.
I absolutely loved everything about this prequel, and can’t wait to need the next book in the series!
Zero is a straight ball of chaos and Colt is the stoic Alpha who seems like he’s trying to not only survive the apocalypse, but also Zero’s shenanigans.
A daring breakout from an experiential lab, it’s the start of something for Omega…. I cannot wait to see what happens next @Jenna Malice ! Im def gonna need more MM Omegaverse!
DNF 32% Even before first chapter author tells you everything that will happen in book in details. so there isn't much point reading all of it again but with more filler thoughts. not my preferable style of writing.
This was so repetitive and the writing style is very similar to books I started to read that then were exposed as written by AI. Not saying this is but again, it had notable similarities. Sad because the premise is good.
This was a great start to a post apocalyptic omegaverse book. I’m excited to see where this leads. Zero is extremely intelligent and obviously has an unbreakable core. It will be interesting to see what Colt does with it.
