So far so good. I have finished the first book "His Captive" (11/2007) and liked the way it went although there was too much back and forth between Nichola and Alexander but that's what makes a good romance I guess. Anyway, I knew something was off with Patryk but not sure just how much. Now I'm off to read 'His Woman' (10/2008) and see how Duncan does.
#3 is 'His Conquest' (11/2010) #4 is 'His Destiny' (10/2011) #5 is 'His Seduction' (8/2013) #6 is 'His Enchantment' (12/2013)
I list them here because the titles in the Book of 6 are not shown in the proper order and it confused me so I sorted them and then dated them.
I didn't read this straight through as you can tell but did finish the book today. I liked every story. Griffin took a while to convince himself that Rois was the one but after he did, everything got better. I liked the last story, His Enchantment, best. It told the story of Trailin and Catrina, the grandfather and grandmother to the brothers in the earlier stories. Catrina is the magical grandmother who the chamber was designed for and who on occasion still visits to straighten everyone out as to who belongs to whom. This story ties it all together. Cosby has a gift for writing and her Scottish history is spot on.
I loved these as individual books and therefor bought the series as well so that reading them in order, one after the other, would be easier and faster. Actually, this series is one of my most favorite so I should just go ahead and get them in paperback. Initially, I fell in love with Alex, the eldest, but continuing on through the series I discovered that all the brothers were strong and very appealing characters. Each of the books in the MacGruder series are true page turners. I hated to put them down and then couldn't wait to begin the next one to continue the saga. This is one of the life long great stories of Scottish warrior, their flaws and their strengths. I loved this series equally as much as I loved Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. You can't help but love this well written, strong, exciting and enchanting series.
I love this series!!! I can not recommend this series enough!! Every book in the series was great! Very entertaining with surprises & twists here and there! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this series!! 2 thumbs up & 5 Stars!!! Great reads!!
The series is written well and believable. I wish the last book was first in reading since it is the beginning of the series but it was still worth reading to know how it all began.
I paid $1.99 for the series, which, was a fair deal in the end.
The first book is terrible. I could have sworn it was written by a man with the amount of times the nipples puckered to signal desire. The lack of knowledge on how a hymen works brings sympathy from me for the author.
If you can get through the eye-rolling of soap-opera'esk tropes, you might find some good. Almost all of the conflicts in the book could be solved by the two main characters JUST TALKING TO EACH OTHER.
I can deal with the plot being a flimsy excuse to have something between all the smut in a book, but the plot wasn't even that.
The series gets better if you wanna stick with it. But unless you're getting this at a super cheap price, I wouldn't spend money on it.
I reviewed these individually, because they are independent books. I am reviewing them here strictly as the group. First, if I were arranging them, I would go ahead and put "His Enchantment" first. It is really the first book, as it sets the stage (and creates the world) for the rest of the books. There is room for a second book, featuring the father/mother, and Patrik as a young boy. It would be less romantic, unless there is a need for the father to get remarried (which might explain why some of these lads have dark black hair and others apparently are rather light... I get hung up on genetics at times). The romance of Patrik's parents.... toss in however many you want. The plots are exciting. Sure, they basically variations on a theme, but it is a great theme and this author has her craft well in hand. As a result, the characters move like dancers, swaying to music by Hayden... The characters are introduced, and developed, book by book. As a result, in the fifth book, the characters are very well rounded. The bottom line is, having finished them, I am in withdrawal. It is not a pretty thing.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a wonderful read in this box set. Diana Cosby has done a wonderful job of keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. The only thing I would suggest would be the books be listed in chronological order. At first I was confused about how each character fit in the plot. Good job of keeping the plot going. I loved reading this book.
