Alderian is an A’aruin, a guardian spirit bound by a luminous Silver Thread to Augustine, the human he has watched over for lifetimes. Their connection is eternal, yet cruelly each is fated to forget the other, never to meet in waking life.

But when Augustine wakes from a dream remembering Alderian’s name, the ancient Law of Oblivion fractures. Suddenly, she can see the Silver Threads linking every soul to its guardian.

For Alderian, this breach is both hope and if the High Council discovers their anomaly, both could be erased from existence. As Augustine’s new sight draws Shadows and danger, she must navigate a world where her classmates are not what they seem and her own heart is torn between the impossible love for her guardian and the ordinary life slipping away.

In a world where memory is forbidden and love is a risk, how far will two souls go to reclaim what was once lost?
"The Silver Thread" is a sweeping tale of forbidden love, spiritual rebellion, and the courage to choose destiny over fate.

The Silver Thread completely pulled me in with its simple yet incredibly effective writing style. Instead of getting lost in overly complicated fantasy worldbuilding, the story focuses on what truly matters: the characters, their emotions, and the hauntingly beautiful connections between them. Reincarnation, angels, humanity, love, yearning, and deception all weave together into a story layered with suspense where no one is truly who, or what, they seem. Every reveal left me questioning everything, and that cliffhanger ending left me eager for more. I need the next book immediately.

Received an ARC from the author.

I went into this book genuinely excited because the premise got me immediately and I'm happy to say it delivered on most of what it promised.

What makes The Silver Thread stand out is how it weaves real-world history into its fantasy framework. It's not something you see often, and it works beautifully here. The blend of our world, our past, and the realm of A'aru feels remarkably believable rather than jarring, and that's a harder balance to strike than it looks.

Worldbuilding: I loved it. The author gives you exactly what you need to move forward without overwhelming you, but just enough to keep your curiosity constantly alive. The writing is straightforward and easy to follow, you can picture everything clearly. My one wish is that the prose had been a little more lyrical in places. The world feels like it has so much more texture to offer, and I would have happily lingered in it longer with richer, more flowing descriptions.

Characters: Both the FMC and MMC are strong, which I always appreciate. They're supportive of each other, they fight for each other, and the connection between them, while it arrives fairly quickly, is earned by the way the plot is constructed, so it doesn't feel cheap. What I loved most is that the relationship never tips into toxicity. Both of them give each other room to leave, and they still choose each other, even when the odds are stacked against them. There's something really beautiful about that. I did wish the secondary characters got more page time, the world around the two leads feels a little thin. And I wanted to see more of the FMC's defiance. There are flashes of it that are genuinely electric, and I kept wanting the author to lean into it harder.

The antagonist: This is where the book lost a star for me. Without getting into specifics, the main threat builds well, and then the resolution arrives too quickly and too neatly. After so much tension, it deflates rather than detonates. Hopefully this gets more room to breathe in future books.

Spice: Open door, I'd put it at a 4/5.

Overall, The Silver Thread is a promising and genuinely original start to what I hope becomes a series with more room to expand, in its world, its side characters, and its conflict. I'll absolutely be continuing.

The Silver Thread felt very emotional and atmospheric from the beginning. The concept of guardian spirits tied to humans through invisible threads was honestly what pulled me in first, but the relationship between Augustine and Alderian ended up being the reason I stayed invested.

Their connection feels both deeply familiar and completely impossible at the same time. I really liked how the romance developed through memories, dreams, and small moments rather than relying only on dramatic scenes. It gave the story a softer, more emotional feel that worked really well for this kind of fantasy.

I also enjoyed that the world slowly opens up the further you read. At first it seems quite simple and character focused, but then more secrets start unfolding around the threads, the guardians, and the rules controlling everything. By the second half, I was fully locked in trying to figure out what was really going on.

Alderian was probably my favorite part of the book. He feels patient, lonely, protective, and slightly tragic in a way that made it very easy to root for him. And Augustine’s curiosity and determination balanced him nicely.

That ending definitely left me needing the next book because there are still so many questions left unanswered.

One of the most unique books I’ve read in a long time!

I read a lot of fantasy and romantasy books–A LOT–and what is so impressive about The Silver Thread is its original concept and world building. I honestly can’t think of another book like it, and in a time when fantasy books seem to have exploded (not a bad thing), it’s really refreshing to read one that carves its own path.

Perhaps what stands out most about this book is how the story is woven together. Not only are you invested in the main characters, Alderian and Augustine, because of their relationship and the complicated challenges they face, but the side characters and subplots are also well-developed and intriguing. Sara, Elarión, and the Guardian of Oblivion left me with so many questions that I wasn’t disappointed when I realized that The Silver Thread was the first book in a series. I can’t wait to find out what happens to the characters I’ve grown attached to as the series progresses.

This is definitely a book I will recommend to my friends who love fantasy and romantasy books, but who have grown tired of the same storylines. If you’re looking for something original and engaging, you won’t be disappointed with this choice.

Thank you, Ema V. Arden, for providing an advanced copy for review. All opinions are my own.

Simple and fulfilling story with focus on beautiful emotional build. It had a “Lady Hawke” vibe to it: a couple that can’t ever be together because when one is a human, the other will be the guardian angel and, as a human, they cannot see the angel.

Well…. And now our story starts with the question: so what happens if the human form, who is not supposed to have any prior memories, remembers the angel’s name and can see him? What happens when the angel, who is only supposed to act as a guardian, start feeling love? (which is considered a weak form of emotion for a certain higher up angel in charge of the silver threads)

Augustine and Alderian were a beautiful couple and, gods… my heart felt for them!! True unconditional love, profound relationship!! I’m very curious to see what will happen now that they are together again for the first time since whatever happened that we still don’t know much about it. And given the revelations of who Augustine is!!

Thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this arc.

Every human has a guardian spirit looking over them, tethered together by a Silver Thread. They are never supposed to meet...

I loved the premise of Silver Thread as I thought it sounded different from other Romantasy books out at the moment, I haven’t really read too many stories around reincarnated romance included in the plot.
The world in this book is intriguing, both the main characters of this book are strong and you can see them progress into the powerful beings that they are by the end of book 1. Who doesn’t love a badass FMC!

The pacing was a bit off to me. Sometimes it left me a bit confused in some places of the book. Also at times I didn’t know who was talking and had to reread the lines again to make sense of it.
.
However the last 30% I was locked in and was intrigued to find out how it will pan out in the end. I am curious about where the 2nd book takes this.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The Silver Thread follows the lives of Alderian and Augustine who are tied together by a Silver Thread, destined to always be connected but never physically in the same dimension. The world that Ema V Arden has created is absolutely fascinating, and one of the most unique I have encountered.

For me personally, the character development just felt a bit rushed, though both main characters are fascinating in their own rights, and the writing style just wasn't for me (I tend to like a bit more flowery writing and Arden's writing is direct and to the point.

I did really enjoy the plot arc and am very curious to see where our main characters end up in Book Two!

Oh. My. God.

I was not expecting this at all!!!

This book starts quite like a lovely, cosy romantasy. We see Augustine navigating college when she discovers she now able to see her guardian angel, Alderian
Their chemistry is incredible and the romance is so swoon worthy.

What I didn’t expect … that the further you progress into this story .. the complex it gets!
I genuinely couldn’t put it down .. I just needed answers!!!

The world building was insane in the latter half and opens up worlds of new directions for the sequel!!!

I… I can’t believe it’s finished 😭😭😭 I desperately need more!! I need more of Aldana! What a bad ass in the making!!!

ARC Read from author 3.5 ⭐

Thank you for the opportunity to read this -

I really loved the concept of this book — the idea of guardian angels and two main characters destined to never meet was so intriguing.

The world building was beautifully done, especially the way the guardian angels exist on another plane. It was described really vividly and added so much atmosphere to the story.

The pacing was very fast, maybe a little too fast in places, which did leave some parts feeling slightly confusing or underdeveloped at times.

Overall, I enjoyed this read and I’d definitely be interested in continuing with the series and seeing where the story goes next.

ARC Review: this review is voluntary and all thoughts are my own.
That ending! I can’t wait to dive more into this world and learn more about Aladana. I also am hoping for more on who Alderian is outside of that relationship. I found myself curious of who every character really was/their own past lives and the connections in those past lives to the main characters. Who is/was Elarion, Sara?
It’s such a unique concept for a story and I loved it!
I wasn’t fond of the word consummated being used lol but wasn’t a determinant.
So much excitement for what’s next! The story has you asking yourself a lot of questions and thinking of your own view of guardian angels.
Looking forward to book 2!

Ema.V.Arden has blown me away with her debut novel The Silver Thread. The world building is so intricate and well done. The forbidden romance was so beautifully tragic and done so differently. The characters were completely loveable Augustine and Alderain are going to stay with me for a very long time. The Silver Thread has become one of my top books of the year. The only thing this book is lacking is the next book.

I am a sucker for romances that transcend time and space, so going into this I was excited for the characters, the world, and the plot. I really wanted to love this one more, but it just couldn’t hook me enough. Thank you to the author and publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

3.5 stars... I struggled a little with the dialogue on this one, many times having to stop and wonder "who would talk like this?" But the premise of this is unique and different enough that I'll probably be picking up the rest of the series to find out what happens.
