Haunting #442: SoulCycle Spin Studio

Number of ghosts: A boogie bunch of phantom disco divas

Location: West End, London

History: Former site of an underground gay nightclub from the 70s. It burned down in an unsolved arson incident and killed a number of men who got trapped in the club.

Wanted: Immediate ghost removal. Customers can’t handle the flickering lights, ectoplasm facials, or ABBA and the BeeGees playing on repeat while they’re trying to work out.

The ExorSquad Team: Callum Fraser, former Detective Inspector turned ghost hunter. Visiting American paranormal podcaster, Beau Montgomery.

Additional Notes: Apparitions spotted in studio mirrors. Flying objects and ectoplasm. All exercise music that is played switches over to disco classics. Instances of temporary possession reported—customers made to do The Bump and The Hustle. Phantom strobe lights and illuminated floors have begun to manifest. A disco ball hanging from the ceiling keeps reappearing no matter how many times it is removed. Notable increase in paranormal activity signals growing danger. Be careful!

Glitter. Ghosts. One grump, one sunshine—and a haunting that might just spark a love story.

Callum Fraser

From Detective Inspector to ghost hunter—how did my life go this spectacularly wrong?

The supernatural upended my world, and after some highly questionable training from ExorSquad Ltd., I’m chasing ghosts instead of criminals. My latest case? A haunted spin studio and a gaggle of disco-loving spirits from the 70s.

Enter chaos in the form of Beau Montgomery.

An absurdly cheerful American in suspenders and a bowtie who insists on calling me “big fella.” Beau’s all glitter, warmth, and a smile sweeter than sin. I prefer order, control, and silence, but somehow he manages to dazzle and confound me in equal measure.

Meanwhile, our ghosts are upping their paranormal antics—and if we can’t help them move on soon, their funky little afterlife party might turn dangerous.

Beau Montgomery
My plan? Come to England for a paranormal pilgrimage and research trip for my podcast. Not in the plan? Meeting Callum Fraser—tall, brooding, and grumpy enough to sour a glass of lemonade. Back home in Mobile, Alabama, when someone blows into your life like a tornado, folks just call it fate.

We’ve got some sassy spirits to help get their eternal happily ever afters ASAP, but I’m laying on the charm while we work. Who says I can’t multitask? Wooing my grumpy, guarded Scotsman isn’t about to take a backseat.

A Southern gentleman doesn’t go down without a fight… and I sure as hell will prove it. If we want our very own HEA, we have to wrap up the case and figure out how to keep our spark alive across the Atlantic. Otherwise, our chance at love may turn (un)deader than disco.

The ExorSquad Series is a collection of standalone MM romcoms centred around the unfortunate employees of ExorSquad Ltd, the UK's shadiest ghost-busting operation. Expect supernatural shenanigans, things that go bump in the night, sizzling encounters, and hard-won happy-ever-afters.

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

🪩👻🔥

Cute pnr fluff with a side of mystery that made me feel very sad ngl.
And though I wasn't a super fan of Beau's dialogue choices at times,
he was a pure-hearted, flirtatious sweetie who'd added quite a bit of sparkle to this installment in the ExorSquad series.

This had a light and breezy narrative tone compared to the other books, and even though I wasn't as in love with this romance as I was with the others, I found the story compelling enough to find out who did the ghosties dirty, and how Beau and Callum would help them find peace and justice at the end!

ARC Read
Beau was honestly SO cute and sweet! I loved his character, and he was definitely one of my favorite parts of this book. I also really enjoyed that both main characters could see ghosts. The podcast was such a fun addition to the story. Honestly, I would listen to that podcast in real life!
I loved that there was an actual mystery for them to solve, too. It added another layer to the story and kept things interesting while the romance developed. The combination of paranormal elements, a sweet romance, and a mystery made this such a fun read. And of course, the added bonus of the spice!!
Overall, this was a sweet, entertaining romance with a great plot, lovable characters, and perfect spice. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal romance with a little mystery mixed in! This series is so good!

I think it's safe to say that Archer and I are a mismatch. The humor is just toooo much for me to where the characters become caricatures (if that makes sense)

“Sweet Miz Dolly Parton and all that is gay and holy…”

I am truly loving every entry in the ExorSquad series, and I am loving seeing how each author approaches this ghostie-filled world.

Callum is a grumpy Scott and former Detective Inspector for the Met who can see ghosts after a career-ending accident. Beau is Jennifer Love Hewitt wrapped in Southern charm and a bowtie, who’s talked to ghosts his entire life. When Callum’s first ExorSquad case crosses with Beau’s first trip to London, the sparks are immediate, and you can’t help but think, “this is fate.”

I really loved how comfortable Beau is being himself. It was fun to see his sunshine-y forwardness bump up against Calum’s closed-off nature (I came in like a wrecking ball…), and how his sparkle was the last thing Calum needed for his new life. He's lived with ghosts his entire life and can offer Callum a unique comfort in this new world.

The haunting here was a sad but touching story. While the idea of disco ghosts had me cracking up, I appreciated the contrast of queer life in the 1970s and our supernatural experts’ focus on helping the ghosties get the justice they deserved so they could move on happily.

Shake Your Boo Thang is part of the multi author ExorSquad series. Each book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the whole series. This is the story of Beau an American pod caster and Callum a Scottish ex detective. I loved these two totally opposite guys. I loved watching them solve the case while building their relationship. I also loved all the ghosts. This was just a fluffy sweet addition to a wonderful series. I can't wait to see what Chloe Archer writes next because I know I will be reading it. I also can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

Having read the other instalments in this series, this has definitely been the most lighthearted book in the ExorSquad Series so far. I really liked that this took a more lighthearted approach which was funny but still stayed true to the paranormal mysery plots I have seen previously.

I loved meeting Callum and understanding his background as an ex police officer and how it comes into play while working with Beau. Beau, oh bless his heart, a southern gentleman being a tourist while seeing ghosts.

I loved these two so much, they had such differing personalities that worked to perfection. Beau is an absolute darling who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. It was nice to see him shuffle his way under Callums walls and break them down bit by bit and how they grew as a couple. That ending for me was just perfect!

This as said is the most lighthearted but my god what a great addition. This whole series has been phenomenal and I will be recommending to everyone.

First, thank you to the author for the opportunity to ARC read this book! I've *loved* the ExorSquad series and am so delighted to get my hands on another piece of the ghost hunting puzzle. Marking for spoilers just in case though I am avoiding any specifics.

I will say that I was a little unsure of Beau, one of our two male leads, at the beginning. He's adorable, but I felt the southernisms may have been a tiny bit overdone; he felt like a caricature more than a real person at the beginning. I am happy to say he settled a bit and felt more real further in, and he really is such a well-meaning and good hearted character it's hard not to love him. Cal, on the other hand, was really lovely right from the beginning. I love a slightly gruff but well meaning dude who is having a learning curve with seeing ghosts. They are such a sweet couple - they work together well and Beau is so reassuring with Cal as he figures out his new abilities. Their meeting is very much a right people-right place-right time and I adore that.

I had a lot of emotions about how Beau uses his abilities to help people move on; the main case is really close to home for me and I could have done with even more case work. There are some very sweet side "cases" as Cal and Beau get to know one another, but I felt like the main case was abandoned for the middle third of the book. I would have loved to go deeper into it and spending time with the ghosts in that case, because I was *really* into the case for a lot of reasons and could have read 100 pages more about it.

3.5⭐️

It’s very long!

Entertaining, and I loved the actual plot of the story. I also loved the title! Setting a hall full of haunted souls free, mixed in with a bit of Poirot detecting, and it was fun. The characters are such polar opposites, it’s like getting whiplash moving chapter to chapter. Beau is very extroverted and brings Calum out and helps to wash away his grumpy nature a little. After his accident, Calum has been a bit lost, and Beau helps bring him back to what he loves too.

The side characters all add to the plot and help us to solve the mystery of why the ghosts died. It was very easy and drama-free read. Little Cluedo fun.

But… There are a lot of unnecessary details, and I mean a lot. This author takes descriptions to another level. I did skim in parts; it was just too much of nothing for me. I think the author had a great idea here, and her characters are definitely enjoyable, but it all got lost, for me anyway.

Loved ittttt!! Beau and Callum are so adorable i love Beau's not so subtle getting together 😂😂 he felt like a male bird trying to attract a mate, however I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed like everything came to an end very randomly almost? they resolved everything way faster than it took to get there and I did still feel like some things were left unsaid, however over all a great addition to the series!

Shake Your Boo Thang by Chloe Archer is another addition to the fantastic ExorSquad series which can be read as a stand-alone but is well worth reading the whole series. Chloe mentioned that this book is a lot lighter than the other books in this multi-author series, and she was right. It IS a lot lighter compared to the other books in this series, however, I think that's what makes it so great? There is heavy topics being discussed, there are still a bunch of ghosts, sleuthing does happen and a murder mystery does get solved, it's just not as dark as the other books. Which I think really works here because it has all of those lovely elements that has carried through this series while also having such a great comedic undertone to it and all of the banter between Callum and Beau all just combined together to create such a terrific book! I read this book in one sitting, that's how good it is!

Callum and Beau are complete opposites in almost every way possible, they are from different countries, they have differing personalities which makes their investigation very interesting to read about, and they both have a different approach to finding answers along with communing with ghosts.

I loved how this book had the opposites attract trope, along with the grumpy/sunshine trope, cause let's be honest, the former detective was a massive grump for a large portion of this book. He softened up after spending more time with his Ghost Whisperer, and I absolutely LOVED seeing that. I also really enjoyed how these two were so determined to help the souls of the ghost that perished in the tragic fire. I won't go into further detail about their case because those would be spoilers, so I'll just leave this with saying if you want a ghost story to read this Halloween season but you don't want something scary, this is the PERFECT thing to read. It has comedy, sass, snark, grumpiness, an intriguing murder mystery, along with plenty of romance that I just loved! I adored seeing these two getting to know one another, it was so special to read about.

All in all a fantastic book!

This is an ARC review. Thank you to the author for the ARC

This is a spicy MM romance that also deals with ghosts and grief. The spice is maybe a medium level and only happens a few times in the story. Make sure you know what all this means before reading.

This is part of the ExorSquad Series which is a multi author series where each story is a standalone with the main theme being ghosts and someone working for the ExorSquad

This story is our introduction to author Chloe Archer and we will definitely be checking out their other stories.

The two MMC’s are Callum and Beau. The author did a great job with these two characters. Beau is a southern queer man from the U.S. and Callum is an older Scottish man working in London. Well, he was working in London until he experienced an accident that left him with an unusual ability.

These two do not seem like they’re perfect for each other at first, but as the story unfolds and each character works through their own baggage and you realize they’re perfect for each other. Especially Beau, he brings the light Callum had lost back into his life. It’s quite sweet. They are great MMC leads and they make great detectives together.

The moms are side characters and they are wonderful. Like, a small novella could be written with their just gossiping and musings and it would be fantastic. You’ll love them and they show you the type of men Callum and Beau are.

The ghosts are who bring Callum and Beau together. It’s their murder they’re solving and you will come to care deeply for these ghost’s. Honestly we were not expecting that at all, but because of how Callum and Beau care about solving this case as a reader you also become invested. At the end you cry with Beau and it’s beautiful.

This is a murder mystery heavy story with the love story of Beau and Callum as another aspect of that. We think this makes a great first story if you’re interested in murder mystery stories with romance or if you’re interested in MM romances.

Oh this was the cutest freaking thing! Callum and Beau are the sweetest! Callum starts out as a grumpy Gus and Beau is an over the top southern boy! So Callum has an accident at work which makes him able to see ghosts which leads to his job at ExorSquad! Beau has had the gift of seeing spirits since he was little so he’s taking a trip to London to see the haunted spaces for his podcast! When Callum is on the job Beau is drawn to the spirits of the spot and he meets Callum and the attraction is instant! Callum of course is a little gruff but Beau is sunshine! The flirting! The endearing words Beau has for Callum is absolutely adorable! Their relationship okg it starts off with one sided flirting from Beau but slowly but surely Callum realizes that their connection like Beau suggests maybe destiny! The case in this book is sad I do love that they get all the information they need for the ghosts to cross over! It’s hard to see what these ghosts went through in the 70s but I love that Callum and Beau with the help of Callums former partner were able to find out what happened to them and get them justice!
Their relationship felt so special because both of them had trouble in relationships because they both see ghosts and normal people don’t take that very seriously! I love how Beau got Callum to open up to the possibility that they were truly destined to be together! I love that their spicy moments were also very damn sweet! The author said this one would probably be more fluffy sweet than the other books in the series and I agree absolutely but it doesn’t take away from the story! Even though it’s very very low angst their relationship felt important their connection was special! Their hea wasn’t hard earned but it was so so good!

What seems like a story that will simply be pure fun, a little silly, and quirky romance - is just that, with a touching mystery and plenty of tender moments between our leading men.

From detective inspector to ghost hunter, Callum has been on quite a journey since his accident. These events have brought him to working for the questionable ExorSquad company. The owner clearly watched too many Ghostbusters movies!

It’s clear Callum needs purpose in his life. Needs to help people. So trying to help with ghosts now that he can see them is probably pretty natural. On his first case, Beau, a southern boy on vacation, is drawn into the case thanks to his own abilities.

Beau is a force of nature and is hard to ignore! Over-the-top flirting is his weapon.

I’ll admit, I don’t love the over-the-top southerness; it always feels like a caricature (in real life too), but I can say that I love these two together, and I especially love how they opened up to each other.

OMG. So good. Callum used to be a detective with the Met until 5 years prior due to an accident. After he died and was resuscitated 2 minutes later, he can now see ghosts but cannot talk to them. He decided to join ExorSquad to better understand his new gift. Beau was born with his gift of being the ghost whisperer. He has a podcast and went to England so he can explore nd help ghosts cross over. He met Callum, who was investigating his first case at a spin studio. This starts their story of how they helped each other figure out what happened and also started their relationship. I loved the way they were with each other and cannot wait to read more from this author.

This book is cute. It’s got humor and “quirky” characters, plus a ghostly fun. It is a low stakes, easy read.

I struggled to connect with both characters, especially Beau. He was too over the top stereotypical southern gay man. Everything with him felt over exaggerated and it was not fun to read after a while. The ghost issue seemed to be secondary to the relationship to the point the ending felt rushed and like an afterthought.

I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Omgosh this story was so good! I absolutely loved this story. Beau and Callum grabbed my heart and kept running with it. These two were hilarious, and the setting was phenomenal. This was the most fun and swoony storyline I’ve ever read. The whole 70’s idea was fantastic. And I Scotsman and a southern man, awesome. This story had me obsessed. Seeing Beau push into Callum, his attraction, he was too cute. The two of them slowly developing something between the two of them whilst doing this humorous job, was just so nice fun to be pulled into. I had an absolute blast with this one.

Another fantastic book in an already phenomenal series. I am so glad I got the chance to read this book! It was adorable and the characters were so much fun! I love Beau from Mobile Alabama and Callum with his Scottish accent. *Cue the Swoon* I am from the south and meeting a handsome man with a sexy Scottish accent would make me act just like Beau 🤣 so I highly recommend that you all read this book! The tone of the book was weird for me. Beau felt like a southern caricature, very over the top. This book doesn’t have as much angst as others in the series. The ghosts/haunting feel less central to the story than the mystery and investigation of the fire at the club.

I liked that both Callum and Beau were older, 43 and almost 30 respectively.

Shake Your Boo Thang is part of the ExorSquad series.

Like the other books in the series, it is set in the UK and centers on the employees of a company that specializes in ghost hunting.

This time, the story centers on Callum, a former police officer who had to leave the Met due to an accident, an accident that gave him the ability to see ghosts, but not to hear them. He’s assigned a job at a sports center.
The other main character is Beau, a quintessential Southern gentleman who hosts a podcast about the supernatural and travels to England to hunt ghosts.

They meet, and despite Callum’s reluctance, they end up working together to unravel the mystery of the ghosts at the sports center

Callum is very grumpy but deep down he’s super affectionate, and Beau is super sweet.

This was such a cute book, filled with swoon worthy moments, a mystery to solve, and two men with all the green flags ❤️. I love the ExorSquad series !!

I love books where opposites attract and this is definitely the case for these two. They are a perfect grumpy sunshine pair. As soon as these two meet Beau lays down his southern charm but Callum is hesitant and Beau is respectfully determined. The way Beau breaks down Callum’s walls and the way he uses the most adorable pet names was swoon worthy. I loved the age gap and it worked so well for their dynamic.

This was equally focused on their relationship and the case they are investigating and I think it was a perfect balance. I really loved how these two took care of each other. This was such a cute book, I adored these two.

Each new author who adds to this ExorSquad world makes it more and more engaging. It has been filled with so many new and interesting characters, as well as lore, that I feel like there’s always something new and exciting waiting to happen around the corner. Chloe Archer’s additions are no exception to this, and I want nothing but the best for Callum and Beau

Callum Fraser was devoted to his job as a Detective Inspector for the Metropolitan Police Service in London; it was his entire life for 15 years until an accident left him broken and on death's door. Brought back from the brink of death with a new ability to see spirits, he is forced into early retirement due to his injuries. After rehabilitation, and a few years of figuring out what’s next, he stumbles across a job advert for ExorSquad. In an attempt to learn more about his new abilities and to find a new purpose in life, Callum applies and gets sent out on his first job. In over his head, he needs any help he can get. When a tourist shows up with the ability to see and SPEAK to spirits, Callum’s life is changed, whether he likes it or not.
Callum is a grump, which is understandable when your entire life is turned upside down in an instant. But when the stunningly handsome Southern man walks into his life and starts to show an interest in him, he’s a bit hesitant to return the affection. He suffers from “What If”. Callum’s journey is based around letting go of the past and giving yourself the chance to move on for a better future.

Beau hasn’t had the easiest life, born with “The Gift”, as he calls it, and raised by a single mother who has been living with an autoimmune disease for years; he has found it hard to build up relationships with other people. He’s been branded a weirdo stick due to his ability to see and speak to the dead. But this has never let this get him down. Given the chance to finally explore more of the world, he takes off to London to research for his podcast on the supernatural. While there, he lets his intuition lead him, and it leads him right towards the world's sexiest grump who may just need his help.
Beau is a ray of Southern Sunshine; he has a heart of gold and will help whoever he sees that needs it. He is also very forthcoming with his wants and needs, and what he wants and needs is some Happy Fun Adult Time with Callum.

The relationship between these two men was so adorable to watch evolve. Beau’s Southern Charm wore away at Callum’s gruff Scottish exterior, and when he finally broke through, things got spicy! I really enjoyed how Beau brought Callum out of his shell and opened him up to a world he was missing out on. The banter between the two men was top-notch, and the interactions between them and the side characters really helped to solidify Beau’s place in Callum’s world. I loved the fated mates aspect of this story, how Beau and Callum complemented each other perfectly, and how they inspired each other to be the best they could be.

The investigation aspect of the story was SO GOOD! I loved how it wasn’t cut and dry; they had to put in some legwork to get their breakthroughs. I really enjoyed seeing them hit dead ends and then pivot and go in different directions. When they finally got to the answers they needed to help their spirit friends move on, it was heartbreaking to see how many victims there really were in the events that happened.

This was such an excellent addition to the ExorSquad collaboration! It was low angst and focused more on the relationship building between the two MCs, with a side of investigation. I recommend reading this ENTIRE SERIES

This series is really hit n miss, which is completely understandable being a multi-author series, but this is the least ghostly one of them all and probably the worst in terms of being all over the place in both dialogue and pace. It’s also feels like it was written in a rush.

There is VERY little ghost action or activity in this. Literally a couple of scenes featuring anything to do with exorsquad and actual ghosts. A lot of the important parts of the book are told rather than shown.

The dialogue is extremely choppy, their conversations seemed so stilted and forced. Whenever Beau talks to someone other than Callum (and sometimes even Callum) he sounds like he’s at a job interview. Beau’s entire personality is basically - nice southern American mamas boy - who can see ghosts and loves Dolly Parton. Which he reminds us of EVERY single page. Honestly Beaus mom was basically the main character, alongside Dolly Parton…who’s also referenced on almost every page!
There’s literally no more to him.
Callum’s personality is grumpy ex detective. That’s it.
The romance wasn’t the most compelling, no chemistry to speak of, or any obvious reason other than having the ghost seeing ability in common, as to why they’d be drawn to each other. Very little spice if that’s your thing.

Callum also suffers with chronic nerve pain in his back and a pinned together leg due to an accident, but can pick up and carry a grown man?! Then he’s pleased a bit of frotting hasn’t thrown his back out? Honestly, it’s just all over the place.

This also features one of my least favourite tropes; can’t act on attraction so I’m going to be grumpy and growly “just because” I find it so lazy.

Normally I can ignore things like grammar, spelling and errors to a certain degree but so much in this book completely took me out of the story. The main issue comes from the many errors that come from it being set in the UK, mostly London. We don’t say “ignore me leaking like a faucet” to excuse crying. We don’t use the word faucet. We don’t say “call the cops”. We also don’t say “I’ll keep calm and carry on” to each other…that one made me literally cackle 🤦🏼‍♀️ ..

I read books mostly based in the US and I love them as much as books based in the UK or Australia but when the language, cultural references and dialogue is all over the place like this was it’s just distracting.

Some parts are a cute, Beau came across as happy, positive and empathetic. He really respects and values his mom and seemed like the definition of a nice person. Callum has a hidden-ish soft side for Beau.
The mystery was easy to solve and made to be extremely obvious but was still a little fun to watch them solve it fairly straightforwardly and without unnecessary drama.

A haunted spin studio, phantom disco divas, ABBA and the BeeGees playing on an endless loop...I'm sorry, but I have QUESTIONS! 😂😂 Chloe Archer, what on earth are you feeding these ghosts? Because apparently, death isn't going to stop these divas from having the time of their afterlives!

This time, the ExorSquad team is called to SoulCycle Spin Studio in London, where the paranormal activity is anything but subtle. Imagine trying to get through a workout while ABBA and the BeeGees blast through the speakers, the lights start flickering and objects flying across the room...I'd be cancelling my membership immediately! Although, knowing me, I'd probably stick around long enough to see what happened next. 😂

But beneath the hilarious supernatural chaos lies a much darker history.
The studio sits on the former site of an underground gay nightclub from the 1970s, which burned down in an unsolved arson attack, killing several men trapped inside. Decades later, their presence is making itself known, and the haunting is becoming increasingly dangerous.

Enter Callum Fraser, a former Detective Inspector turned ghost hunter. Having spent years investigating crimes, Callum now finds himself tackling a different kind of mystery, one where the evidence might fly across the room and the suspects could be hiding in the mirrors! Then there's Beau Montgomery, an American paranormal podcaster visiting London. Pairing him with Callum gives this investigation an interesting dynamic, bringing together two men with different professional backgrounds who must navigate an increasingly dangerous haunting. With disco-loving spirits wreaking havoc around them, there's certainly no shortage of situations to keep them on their toes!

And let's be honest, I'm always here for an MM romance that brings two men together in the middle of absolute chaos. 👀💜 Ghost hunting already comes with enough opportunities for unexpected encounters, stressful situations, and close quarters. Add a mysterious haunting and a former nightclub full of restless spirits, and there's plenty of potential for Callum and Beau's relationship to develop alongside the investigation.

I'm here for the disco ghosts, the supernatural shenanigans, the mystery behind the fire, and the prospect of watching two men navigate an investigation that is anything but ordinary.

I absolutely adore this series!

Blimey, this was a wild one. We’ve got Callum Fraser, this proper grumpy, stone-faced Scottish ex-DI who has basically had it with the universe, paired up with Beau Montgomery, a Southern ghost whisperer who is basically walking sunshine in neon exercise gear. They end up stuck together trying to solve this mental haunting at a local spin studio called CycleSoul. Literally, a trio of phantom disco divas keep hijacking the workouts, blasting out the old-school tunes and throwing glitter everywhere while people are trying to pedal. It’s completely ridiculous, dead funny, and easily the most lighthearted thing in the whole multi-author collaboration.

Honestly, the chemistry between them is what kept me turning the pages. Beau is just a massive ball of chaotic energy, and watching him slowly crack Callum’s cold outer shell is brilliant. I will say, don't let the goofy, sparkle-covered setup fool you—the actual mystery with the ghosts takes a sharp turn into proper tear-jerker territory near the end. One minute you're laughing at spin class chaos, and the next you're genuinely sobbing over the emotional payoff about grief and finding your people. Chloe Archer’s pacing is incredibly snappy, and she nails that perfect balance where the romance feels totally earned rather than rushed, even with all the supernatural madness happening around them.

It’s a massive win if you want something that makes you laugh out loud but still delivers a proper emotional punch. Ideal for anyone obsessed with the total grump meets pure sunshine trope and wants a cozy, paranormal mystery that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Thank you to the author Chloe Archer for the arc of Shake Your Boo Thang. Book 7 of the Exorsquad series, that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I only have this 1 and the last one and then I’m finished 😭 these have been so good and I’m looking forward to getting my book trophies for these to re-read over and over.

As always I read over the handbook, trying to spy anything new and ofc Gerald encourages you to run after the disaster at Arduin castle with the elemental spirit that nearly killed everyone. Yes he isn’t gonna take any responsibility because he’s a sleaze bag but at least it’s acknowledged but only because he was the police on his tail for all these unsolved deaths 👀My mum always says everything comes in three’s and she has never been wrong about that so maybe Ted wrote this revised edition because Gerald is not that insightful.

Callum is gruff, a workaholic and really grumpy. But he has a great heart! He used to be a detective for the met but an injury and near death experience led to early retirement. But it did leave him with a specific gift, being able to see ghosts. So now what does he do? He ventures of course but bad luck it’s to Exorsquad because Gerald is a putz. After fighting to work alone, he gains a partner irregardless but cmon! Who wouldn’t want a sweetie pie helping along the way.

It’s literally impossible not to smile around Beau, he’s so well mannered and charming (except when he has his randy thoughts but I’m sure Callum wouldn’t mind) he could literally sweet talk his way into anything! It’d be pointless to try and say no to him, and the southern accent? Yep game over. Not only that but he also sees spirits from birth which gives him an advantage to this world and also helps aide Callum with his investigation because only Beau can talk to them.

Poor Poirot, seeing Beau for the first time and getting spooked because he and Callum are eating each others faces off 😂😂 We see the straight edged, gruff Callum become a teddy bear for Beau and I’m all for it. Their relationship was destined from the start, because who would come into a building declaring the energy was strong. I’m so happy we got a HEA and helped the ghosts too. Because that mystery was a great element but just showed them also they were a dream team!

First, I want to thank Chloe Archer for the gifted eARC of Shake Your Boo Thang to read and provide my honest, spoiler free review!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts:
I still can’t get over how different each installment of the ExorSquad collaboration is! Everything is literally a rollercoaster, not knowing what to expect when you start each book. This installment was no exception!

I was not expecting such a fluffy, funny read! I mean I should have seen it coming considering the haunting consists of phantom disco divas but still…I wasn’t expecting how it all played out! The “hauntings” cracked me up considering the amazing song choices the ghosts chose to play while other people were working out. Nothing like the BeeGees to get your blood pumping for a spin class am I right?!

Just like each installment of this collab series, there is always a mystery to be solved. Learning about the backstory of what used to be the now spin studio brought the emotional element to the story. It definitely put things into perspective on why these ghosts were progressively becoming more and more active and powerful.

Callum and Beau were honestly so adorable to me! I love the dynamic between these two as it honestly was so complimenting having these two work together as a team. They bring out the best in each other and treat each other so preciously that I couldn’t help but adore them. They truly fit the grumpy sunshine trope to perfection and I had a great time watching these two investigate and fall for each other as the story progressed.

Overall, this was a fun read and I was happily invested in the mystery behind the hauntings as well as the sweet, fluffy romance between Callum and Beau. As things are coming to an end with this series, I’m really sad to see the ending coming up but I’ve enjoyed my time with each installment so far!
