“We can’t be judged. We can’t be told we’re not good enough because of our past. After all, we’re all red on the inside…”
Sixteen year old, Peyton is all grown up and lives without the guidance of her mother or father. Raised by her older cousin, Mason and his wife Adalyn, she lives life making the same reckless mistakes her parents once made; left with only hallow words penned in her mother’s journal and vaulted music from her father’s band. But sometimes mistakes are necessary to grow even when they mean life as you know it will completely fall apart.
After constantly getting involved with the wrong guys and making questionable decisions, things start to look up for Peyton when she’s introduced to Ronan, a newcomer from New York. Nevertheless, when things start to look up we should be ready to shift our eyes downward because a fall is sure to come.
As Peyton makes a mess of her life in Arizona, she relocates to Los Angeles to live with her famous Uncle Jackson where she meets her musical muse, Alex Kinsley. But does a change of scenery really change who we are?
In the second installment of the RED Tragedies series, RED picks up where A Tragic Heart left off.
"I’m young, inexperienced, and vulnerable to the world. I’m an open book that no one cares to read so instead I write and hope that someone will read my words. Maybe that person is you……".
Growing up in a suburban area of Long Island, New York, S. Elle Cameron constantly felt like she didn’t belong. She creates characters that people of all ages can relate to. Her first novel, A Tragic Heart is based off of her many struggles and experiences as a teenager and early adult.
Cameron strives to create novels that capture most of her feelings and emotions while also depicting the inner feelings of other teens. She has since written three more novels that will be released to the public in the near future.
This story follows Peyton, the daughter of Taylor and Peyton from A Tragic Heart, over a 2 year period. It's told from 6 pov's and while that sounds like it would be confusing there's isn't any problems following it. While I didn't love this as much as A Tragic Heart it was a great story. It told of Peyton dealing with love, loss, and heartache. Although a lot of it she brings on herself. The thing that bothered me is how she spends so much time whining about being parent-less. Its not as though she was alone, she has a great life and was raised by Mason and his wife Adalynn. But she isn't the only one that says her life would be so much better if her parents hadn't died. Yes she is dealt some crappy stuff but it probably would've happened anyway. I absolutely loved Ronan but I thought throughout the whole book he was too good for her and then with one of their last scenes it really pushed it home. I kept hoping she would change her mind at the last second but she didn't and Ronan being the great guy he is still helped her out even after everything that had gone down. I realize being a teen you don't want advice but if she had just listened sometimes she could've saved her self so much heartbreak. Then again some of the dumb things she does is all on her own and impulsive. I believe Alex did love her in his own way but it wasn't healthy. I kept hoping for the best for him and was saddened with how his story turned out. Jackson is the coolest uncle ever and Peyton sometimes took that for granted. I would've loved to have someone that was so understanding at her age. Plus no matter what happened he had her back even if she didn't see it that way. I don't know really what to say about Mason. He's a great father but after 16 yrs he's still hung up on Taylor and it's destroying his marriage. Adalynn is a better woman than me because there's so way I could deal with it the way she does. This is a great follow up and I recommend it to those that loved A Tragic Heart. I can't wait to see what follows next with this series.
I received an eArc from the author in exchange for a honest review. Thank you.
As the first book I read from my Anticipated Releases post back in 2014, this one did not disappoint. In fact, it's almost 600 pages and I finished it in a little over two days. That being said, it wasn't perfect. In fact, the characters were, more times than not, frustrating and bipolar. They did and said the wrong thing at the wrong time which, of course, ended up in a whole lot of trouble. But that's what humans do, isn't it? They break things again and again until they're irreparable.
