The Ladder of Love Bible Study Guide plus Streaming Video: A Pathway to Emotional Healing and Spiritual Intimacy with Jesus

Not yet published
Expected 6 Oct 26
Bestselling author Stasi Eldredge guides women into deeper intimacy with Jesus through a biblical progression of relationship--clay, sheep, servant, child, sibling, friend, bride--inviting them into healing, discovery, and the joy of being deeply loved by God.

Many women long for a deeper, more experiential relationship with Jesus. They go to church, read their Bible, and pray yet still feel like they know God more in their heads than in their hearts. Shouldn't there be more?

In her new book, New York Times bestselling author Stasi Eldredge reveals that Scripture offers a beautiful, intentional progression of intimacy with God. These familiar metaphors--clay, sheep, servant, child, sibling, friend, bride--aren't random images. They're rungs on a spiritual ladder that leads us closer to God's heart. As we understand them, we begin to understand how He invites us to relate to Him. With her signature warmth, biblical depth, and guided prayers, Stasi helps readers

address the heartaches that keep them from drawing closer to God and remove the roadblocks that prevent healing, learn to take prayerful pauses that allow Christ to minister directly to their deepest needs, recognize the difference between knowing about God and experiencing Him personally, identify where they have "learned God wrong" and gently step into learning Him rightly, anddiscover how spiritual disciplines guide them on the journey of drawing near.

For every woman desiring closeness with Jesus or longing to rediscover it, this book offers a path of healing, transformation, and the breathtaking joy of truly knowing God and being deeply loved by Him.

Stasi Eldredge loves writing and speaking to women about the goodness of God. She spent her childhood years in Prairie Village, Kansas, for which she is truly grateful. Her family moved to southern California back in the really bad smog days when she was ten. She loved theater and acting and took a partiality to her now-husband, John, when they were friends in high school. Stasi earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from San Diego State University, which she attended primarily because it was close to the beach. She became a Christian her junior year in college and dove into the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. After graduating, Stasi joined Youth for Christ, heading up a ministry to pregnant teenagers and teen mothers. She has been active in ministry ever since, including theater ministry, crisis pregnancy center ministry, women’s ministry, and children’s ministry. The Eldredge family moved to Colorado in 1991.

Stasi loves the joy and freedom that comes from knowing the passionate, stunning love of Jesus Christ and lives to see others come to know him more deeply. She loves worship music, time to bake, celebrating life, getting lost in a good novel, baths, walking in the woods, hearing her sons' laughter, the sound of wind in the trees, a good cup of coffee, the smell of the earth after it rains, a powerful turn of phrase, animals in the wild, gardens, freshly mowed grass, family traditions, cherished friendships, the Tetons, rivers, mountain lakes, the grace and beauty of horses, the affection of her dog, and most of all, her family and her God.

My Dad used to say, “Religion tells us how people see God. But I want to know how God sees us.” That always stuck with me, but I don’t think I spent much time really walking this out in my life. The Ladder of Love by Staci Eldredge helped me to do just that! I hadn’t truly considered the sheer breadth of intricate, beautiful layers of who I am to God and the stages I can ascend with Him “like rungs on a ladder” to grow and mature in real relationship. This book is special.

Staci has written a very approachable and gentle paced journey for us. She explains the concept of the ladder, helps us to explore our own story of love, and to explore all that we are to God, building in intimacy and purpose with him as we climb. She shares her own story with bold vulnerability and quotes biblical scripture, well known Christian authors and Saints throughout.

What I loved right out of the gate is that it’s made clear that this not another book about what we must do to become something more. We have enough pressure in our lives, don’t we?: “No. It’s about responding to an invitation from Jesus to reveal to you who He is with more clarity, color, and depth, and to reveal to you who you are with awe and wonder.” (Introduction ix)

We know as Christians that God lives within our own hearts, but do we ever flip this to consider what this means in God’s heart?: “There is a holy, sacred corresponding place in the heart of God that you alone have access to. God does not make people the same; we are each unique, peculiar. We are made for God, and made to know him as only we can know him.” (3). Can a relationship be more personal than this? Is your own heart now stirring?

I also love that each chapter ends with a Selah – time to pause and reflect upon what we just absorbed. The guided prayer and exercises allow time to transition from one chapter, and step to the next (a bit like physically climbing a ladder). Once finished, I spent several more days going back through the guided prayer and exercises at the end of each chapter. Especially because just as Staci predicted, one of the “rungs” (sibling) came with a spotlight in my own heart and took me by quite a surprise. Jesus is always ready to meet us where we are, and in new and intimate ways.

This climb is a practice. The book is a beginning. In this way, it is more like a living, breathing document that I will return to again and again. I offer my heartfelt encouragement to other readers to accept the invitation in the Ladder of Love.

I absolutely loved this book! I am a biblical counselor/pastor and I speak with people about their identity ALL the time. I received this book at the Homecoming conference in June of 2026. This book will be a standard hand-out, as soon as it is available. Personally, my mind was blown with the chapter The Mothering of God. It explained so many of my counsels, it explained what is missing in the church, and it explained the hatred of Satan against women who are made in the image of God.

Stasi Eldredge leads readers into hearing from God, rather than just telling you how to do it. The Selah's at the end of each chapter are not only beautiful and healing, they set a pattern of interacting with the Lord.

The only thing that could make this better is to offer discussion questions at the end of each chapter for a group discussion. I plan on offering group studies on this book.

I'm a pastor, so I read a lot of books hoping I can hand them off to people in my church, and this is going straight into rotation. I've followed Stasi Eldredge's work since "Captivating" and this might be the most practical thing she's written.

Most books in this space tell you to try harder at feeling close to God. This one does the opposite. It's about what happens when a woman stops performing for love and just lets herself be loved, which sounds simple until you actually try to do it. Stasi is really good at naming the gap between what we say we believe and what we actually feel most days, and she doesn't make anyone feel dumb for having that gap. She just walks you through closing it.

Her voice is what makes this work. Warm, honest, says hard things without being harsh about it.

Already thinking about which women in our church need this in their hands first. Five stars, no hesitation.

This was an excellent look at how we relate to our Father and Creator. I will start by saying I have read and thoroughly enjoyed everything that the Eldredges have written over the years and most of them are on my "keeper" shelf. This one will soon be joining them as this is one I will want to re-read and reference again and again. Taking the reader through each "stage" (or ladder rung, if you will) of relationship with God (love), each chapter helps us understand how our loving Father guides us as clay, sheep, servants, children, siblings, friends and lovers of God. Each of these rungs is based firmly in scripture. The author takes us through her own experiences as well, as she teaches us how we need healing from our earthly relationships in order to get to the perfection of relationship with God. I loved her descriptions of how He pursues us in each of these realms as well. And how we don't leave a stage behind, but live in many of them (even all of them) concurrently. I was able to analyze my own life experiences a bit more clearly in light of some of these things and learned some things about the life of Jesus that I didn't know before. This book is one I will recommend again and again to anyone who wants to know God better and grow in their relationship with Him. Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

I was so blessed to receive a copy of this book serendipitously from a couple who attended the Homecoming conference in Colorado. They received two copies, one for each of them. My mother in NC cuts one of their hair, and knows how much I have gleaned from the Eldredge’s teachings over the years, and graciously gave me her copy from her client before she finished it. God is always at work, isn’t he?

This book really touched my … quite guarded heart. I’ve read an enormous amount of Christian literature. Yet I confess, it’s been a wilderness season for me. Stasi presents the ladder in an easy to follow format, going ‘further up, further in’, with each chapter. It was precisely what my tender heart needed. Jesus ministered to me the entire time. It felt like a gentle, loving, “look under the hood” for the heart. This book is important. This book is special and Stasi was especially anointed to share its message. I will treasure the words she wrote, the beautiful encounters (yes) I had with Christ throughout my reading, and take them with me where He leads me next.

God bless you too Stasi.

I offer this early review in hopes that many more find its help and wisdom! Stasi transcends gender barriers in her writing, thou intended for the female audience, I as a man find myself captured by her wisdom and insight as she shares Papa's and Jesus's Love and Desire for each of us to meet and heal our hearts.
I was captured in the Intro and thou only thru chapter four, her writing and insight have already made a huge impact! I only wish that I had 30 more copies in hand to rush into my daughters, sons, allies and loved ones hands for themselves.......
A must read i believe for all of us who have questions, I mean really, who hasn't been betrayed, hurt, misunderstood in the realm of the heart and left wondering who we are and what the Father thinks of us....Read this and find Out!! :)

I am on the final chapter of this book. It honestly feels like I received from it more than one should get from reading a book. It has been more of an experience. I have read through it slowly, over the course of a few months. At the end of each chapter, Stasi leads the reader through a guided prayer experience. I have found myself having profound meetings with Jesus as I've read through these prayers. It has felt like therapy as Jesus has used the readings to meet me and speak to my heart about areas of my life that I've conveniently put from my mind over the years. I have received unexpected healing as I've read this book. It will remain as a reference on my nightstand, with sticky note bookmarks throughout. I look forward to revisiting the prayers in this book repeatedly. Reading this book has truly been a gift. Highly recommend.

The Ladder of Love book is by far the best book I’ve ever read regarding emotional healing and learning about the heart behind God’s gentle work in our lives to draw us closer to Him and , at the same time, conform us into His own image. But, this image He creates is supremely unique and powerful to each and every person and Stasi Eldridge explains it perfectly in every chapter leaving you feeling restored to a rich, full life that you are able to enjoy and give to others! It’s beautifully written and her willingness to share her own story in such a raw and compelling manner helps you to feel accepted and able to face yourself no matter how difficult your past may be. It’s worth its weight in gold. My greatest aspiration is to be able to teach it now to others with her permission.
Sincerely, Julie Brackett

Ladder of Love may well be Stasi Eldredge’s definitive work to-date. Filled with wisdom, vulnerability, and authenticity, it is a comprehensive offering of life more abundant for friends of Jesus. For my initial reading, I climbed the reading rungs slowly–one topic at a time, allowing space and pause in between. It made for a richer experience. You can soak in the book’s refreshing shallower waters, or dive into deep-end depths. The Selahs at the end of each chapter contain life-imparting prayers and reflections. Those can also be approached at different levels of engagement. Women, men, and small groups who have the courage and hunger to climb will be rewarded with a glorious new view. And more of the Only One who is Worthy.

This book is so good! Not only am I learning what coming into deeper emotional intimacy with Jesus can look like, but I’m also beginning ushered into the presence of Jesus with the guided prayers at the end of each chapter. It’s not another book that tells you all the things you should DO for God, but rather an invitation to come closer to him and let him love you and bestow your identity in him even deeper. This book is helping me rest in God rather than strive to do better or do more. Breath of fresh air!

The imagery of climbing a ladder with more and more to experience with all the members of the Trinity is spectacular! Whether you are a decades-old Christian or someone figuring out what this God thing is all about, Ladder of Love is a lovely invitation to more than friendship with the Creator of the universe. There is always more of His love to discover and KNOW (yada). I especially found the chapter on the Child/Father/Mother section very special. Not a huge spoiler: I want to "play" with Jesus:). I am purchasing a copy for my mentor, my mom and all three of my besties!!

I received an advance copy of The Ladder of Love at the Replenish conference, and it stayed with me.

Stasi Eldredge names something so many of us carry quietly, that we can know so much about God and still feel far from Him. Her progression, clay, sheep, servant, child, sibling, friend, bride, gave me language for something I had felt but never fully understood. Not more performance. More intimacy.

This is a book to sit with slowly. If you have ever wondered whether God wants closeness with you, not just obedience from you, start here.

I received an advanced reading copy of The Ladder of Love, and it was such an impactful read for me. Stasi did such a beautiful job guiding me through the biblical imagery of how we relate to God, and in the process, my heart uncovered new and precious ways to His heart, and a deeper understanding of who I am to Him. I look forward to going back to spend more time in each chapter, again and again.

Once again Stasi Eldredge has hit the mark, filled my bucket, and drawn me closer to Jesus.

The Ladder of Love leads readers into and through a
more mature, healing, and intimate relationship with Jesus. It is a read well worth savoring as well as recommending to those who are seeking the love of Jesus on a whole new level.

I can predict that my (already) well-worn copy will be one I return to frequently just as I have with Captivating.

What I love About this book is that it contains both Counseling wisdom and the truth of Jesus Christ on our authentic journey of emotional healing. Jesus is the only one who can truly heal our hearts and minds but we need the help and guidance of others to get there. Stacy‘s words are full of wisdom for those of us that want to go deeper in Christ and more complete in our wholeness on this journey.

When I'm reading nonfiction, I tend to underline, star and circle text I want to go back to when the author has struck a chord with me. This advance copy is full of my markings. Stasi Eldredge has a way of writing material you may have heard before in a fresh way that is applicable to your own life. And, I'm guessing there is a lot of material in this book you haven't heard! If you want to grow closer to God and receive more of the emotional healing he offers, this book is for you.

Easily one of my favorite reads of the year! Stasi has a wonderful gift for connecting the timeless truths of Scripture straight into the tender, messy realities of our everyday lives, reminding us that we are held by a God who truly knows us. If you are feeling weary or longing for a more authentic, grounded relationship with Jesus, this book is pure life and comfort. I cannot recommend it enough!

I shouldn’t be surprised that Stasi does it again, crafts her story with Jesus into a book that draws you in and brings healing to the heart. Her depth of the experience of Jesus and her intimacy with him is an open door for the reader to receive the same! I did! Wow. Just wow. Couldn’t put it down. My heart was shown so much more Jesus and what’s available!!

Honestly, the best book I’ve read in many years. It has connected me to the heart of the Father in ways I didn’t know were possible. Stasi continues to pour out from a well of wisdom and years spent listening to and loving the Holy Spirit. Even if you have a thriving, robust relationship with Jesus….. There. Is. More!!!

Stasi continues to speak to us in her new book with the feminine essence of God. Her intimacy with the Holy Trinity draws us into God's heart for his children and encourages us to mature into the man or woman we are created to be in His image. This is a rich resource to guide to the One who loves us to bring us healing and restoration in His name.

I love this book! So orienting and encouraging! Stasi leads the reader through a series of invitations to deepening intimacy with Jesus. These aren’t steps to check off of a list, but rather are windows to new ways of relating with our God. Stasi weaves vulnerable, beautiful illustrations in each chapter to help lead the reader up the ladder to deeper relationship with the Trinity.

This is a gentle and powerful call to explore facets of my relationship with God in ways I don't usually think of. It awakens my desire to experience MORE. It invites risk. It disrupts my ideas about what is possible. It confronts me with just how close to God I want to be. It offers hope and a way to be seen and known and welcomed into Love.
