#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods sweeps readers away with the story of a beloved member of the O'Brien family as she claims the life she's always dreamed of...
Spirited, spontaneous Carrie Winters has grown up under the watchful eyes of not only her grandfather Mick O'Brien, but the entire town of Chesapeake Shores.
Now that she's home from Europe, a glamorous fashion career behind her and her heart broken, there seem to be far too many people watching to see if she'll live up to the expectations her family has for her.
As if that weren't enough pressure, Carrie finds herself drawn to sexy, grief-stricken Sam Winslow, who is yearning for someone to help him raise the nephew who's unexpectedly come into his life after a tragedy.
With her own life in turmoil, is Carrie really ready to take on a new career and a new man? Or is Sam exactly what she needs to create the strong, loving family she's always wanted?
With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
Sherryl Woods returns with her charming Chesapeake Shores #13 series, and the famous O’Brien family, with another heartwarming story of the strong bonds of family, and a budding romance in the picturesque Chesapeake Bay with WILLOW BROOK ROAD —and of course, always nice catching up with familiar characters from previous books.
Mick O’Brien, architect designed the adorable cottage with porch and rockers facing Willow Brook for a perfect Chesapeake Shores’ vacation getaway, or starter home for a small family. However, Carrie Winters had been living there alone at loose ends for the last six months.
After two years in a high-pressure public relations job, Carrie does not like being idle. However, she was too distracted to read and even though she enjoyed cooking, no sense in making anything fancy for one, making her feel more lonely.
Carrie had been in a funk since she arrived and her grandfather Mick was frantic, as the O’Briens do not believe in self-pity. Carrie had been doing just that since her breakup of her last relationship, Marc Reynolds, fashion world icon, which was timed with the crash and burn demolition of her career in the fashion industry— the combination had sent her fleeing from Paris, back to the comfort of her family.
She had finally realized he thought of her more as a convenient bed partner and workhorse. Her public relations efforts for his fashion empire had helped put him on the fast track to international acclaim. Unbeknownst to her, his heart apparently belonged to a self-absorbed model who treated him like dirt.
She was not interested in a man anytime soon, and could hardly even trust her own instincts. She was spending time taking care of her twin sister, Caitlyn’s little boy, Jackson, while her sister was serving a medical internship at John Hopkins and her husband Noah was running an increasingly busy family medical practice in town. She had volunteered for daycare duty whenever they needed her.
Of course, everyone wants to know what Carrie is planning for her life. From her cousins, and nosy family members. She really just wanted to be a wife and mom, as Gram was always her role model. Nell, always loved cooking, baking, and taking care of her family.
Enter sexy, newcomer Sam Winslow who is raising his nephew, Bobby which has entered his life. His parents died in an accident only weeks ago. Images of him were a little too enticing for her comfort. Of course, everyone is involved in her business about this guy. Sam is the new web designer and tech expert for Mack at the paper.
Will these two hit it off with their own personal issues and baggage? In between brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, nieces and nephews, a large family and faithful friends, nothing is impossible. Will Carrie and Sam be the perfect match to carry on the O’Brien legacy and overcome all the obstacles and challenges?
If you have read any of the previous books in the series, the O’Brien’s pretty much run the town, with the Irish pub, while each of the family members possesses numerous talents and qualities. Not too shabby a bunch. They seem to run off to spread their wings with successful careers, world travels, and return home to find a partner, and settle down, plus more.
Having read all the books in the series, always nice catching up with familiar characters and old friends. They are growing up fast, always expanding by marrying and adding more babies with every book. They always seem to gather around the dining room table, so assume it has lots of extensions.
For all, you Christmas book fans, look for the new Chesapeake Shores novella, Bayside Retreat, coming Oct 27, and of course the upcoming Hallmark channel featuring Chesapeake Shores series and the exciting line up of stars.
Fans of Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove series, Susan Wiggs’ Lakeshore Chronicles, and Mariah Stewart's Chesapeake Diaries will enjoy Woods' small town charm, family, friendship, home, and light romance.
A special thank you to Harlequin/MIRA and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 Stars
What a great story to escape to! Visiting characters that are like family and friends. Finding out one of the twin girls you’ve witnessed grow up through the series find love and a family of her own. I’ll be sad to see the end of this series but grateful that the author has many other wonderful books about neighbors to visit too! This book is one of Sherryl Woods best!
This is the 13th book in the series and the cast of characters is quite large. Reading some of the previous stories would help keep everyone straight. As always, Sherryl Woods writes a wonderful romance with several lines in the background, keeping characters from previous books updated and adding to the current story. Carrie and Sam take front row in this book as he moves to town with his nephew and she decides to stay in Chesapeake Shores and open a much needed daycare center. An enjoyable read of a wholesome fun loving family.
Willow Brook Road by Sherryl Woods is a wonderful addition to the heartwarming Chesapeake Shores series. In this latest offering featuring the meddlesome but loving O'Brien family, Carrie Winters discovers her niche in life after her returning to her beloved hometown. She also unexpectedly finds love despite her first tempestuous encounters with newcomer Sam Winslow.
Carrie is feeling the pressure from her well-intentioned but interfering grandpa Mick to figure out what she is going to do now she decided to move back home. Her messy break-up with her ex not only ended her relationship but also her career and over the past several months, she has been filling in as a babysitter for her various family members while she tries to decide what she wants to do next. A surprising suggestion by one of her cousins helps steer her in an unanticipated but exciting new direction but her family's lack of confidence in her new endeavor is disheartening. Adding to her distress is a family member's unexpected jealousy and hurtful comments over Carrie's involvement with Sam and his nephew Bobby. As if Carrie is not contending with enough drama, the future of her budding romance with Sam remains uncertain in the face of their individual insecurities.
Although Carrie loved traveling and seeing new places, she is ready to put down roots in Chesapeake Shore. She has purchased a home and she is enjoying reconnecting with her family even though she is a little frustrated by their insistence at poking around in her business. Despite their assertions she is acting without thinking things through, after careful research, Carrie is certain she has made the right decision, but she is still afraid of disappointing her family.
Sam is still reeling from the death of his sister but he puts his grief aside while he creates a new home for Bobby. He is clearly out of his depth as he attempts to adapt to instant "fatherhood" and his honesty about his fears is quite refreshing. He also must come to terms with the fact that his footloose, fancy free days are behind him now that he is responsible for Bobby. While he is certainly confused about why his sister named him as Bobby's guardian, Sam never once considers taking care of him as an unwelcome burden. He makes a few missteps and mistakes but Sam's commitment to his nephew never wavers as he tries to help Bobby settle into their new life together.
The relationship between Sam and Carrie is slow growing and simmers on the backburner while they deal with the individual changes in their lives. Both are very concerned about Bobby's well-being and after their initial somewhat hostile encounters, Sam often turns to Carrie for advice. Sam and Carrie attempt to ignore the spark between them as they help Bobby adjust to his new life but their attraction is just too powerful to resist. Sam and Carrie tentatively begin dating, but with so much uncertainty in their lives, is their budding romance strong enough to withstand the unresolved issues from their respective pasts?
Willow Brook Road by Sherryl Woods is another enchanting installment in the Chesapeake Shores series. Carrie and Sam are three-dimensional, vibrant characters that are quite appealing. Their relationship is very sweet and grows naturally over the course of the story. As always, the O'Brien family plays a huge role in the unfolding storyline, and it is quite enjoyable catching up with characters from previous novels. All in all, it is another heartfelt and engaging visit in Chesapeake Shores that is sure to delight old and new fans of this charming series.
Bah. The book had its moments. I'm a sucker for single dad stories but the story was too fast paced. The endless character introductions made it hard for me to connect with anyone. I felt like I needed a flow chart to keep every character in mind. You get very little character growth although you do witness some with Sam. Not sure I interested in reading the rest of the series..
I loved this latest addition to the Chesapeake Shores series, as one of the two little girls from the very first book has grown up and finds her own true love. Carrie grew up in Chesapeake Shores, but moved away in search of her own place in the world. After finding out that her boss and the man she thought she loved wasn't what she thought, she has come back home. She's been wallowing in her unhappiness a little bit, filling her time by taking care of the various children in the family. She hasn't decided yet what she is going to do, and is getting tired of the hassle from members of her family, especially her grandfather Mick.
Carrie is definitely going through a rough time, trying to figure out what she wants to do. She knows she wants it to be there, as she has missed her home and family more than she expected. A comment from her cousin Luke gives her food for thought, but she's distracted by the arrival of a handsome but harried looking man.
Sam Winslow is new to Chesapeake Shores, the web tech for the town newspaper. He'd barely arrived in town when he his sister and brother-in-law were killed in an accident, leaving him as guardian of his six year old nephew Bobby. As a formerly foot loose and fancy free bachelor, Sam is feeling overwhelmed by the thought of being an instant father. Dashing in to the pub to grab some take out, leaving Bobby snoozing in the car (though he keeps a close eye on the car while doing it), Sam runs afoul of Carrie. Their initial meeting has sparks flying, with each of them doing some judging of the other. Things get better once they both calm down.
I loved both Carrie and Sam. Carrie has finally reached the point where she is ready to move on with her life. Luke's suggestion finds fertile ground as she realizes that taking care of children is something that she both enjoys and can get passionate about. She knows her family well and realizes that she will have to make sure she has all her ducks in a row before she tells them her plans. I was really impressed with the way she went about her research. It was also very helpful for her that she had Sam to talk to. I felt bad for her when she didn't get the immediate support from her family that she wanted.
I thought Sam was terrific. Even though he had been a carefree bachelor, he didn't hesitate to step up when it came time to take care of Bobby. His fears were real and realistic, as he didn't know anything about kids or what they need. He is used to doing things on his own, so asking for help isn't easy. Even though he makes a few mistakes along the way, he is determined that he and Bobby will be the "team" that they need to get through it. There were some really sweet moments between the two of them as Sam went from nervous uncle to (semi) confident dad.
I loved seeing the relationship develop between Carrie and Sam. There were sparks from the beginning, but neither is ready to begin a relationship. Carrie is still recovering from her last one, and not all that confident in her ability to pick the right man this time. It doesn't help that her family members keep warning her against getting involved with Sam. At the same time, Sam knows that he needs to concentrate on Bobby's needs first. He's drawn to Carrie, but he also isn't so sure that she is going to stay around and doesn't want Bobby to get attached and then hurt. I loved that they became friends first, helping each other out when needed. Even when they admitted that their feelings were growing they tried to keep it private, not wanting to deal with interference from Carrie's well meaning but pesky relatives. I loved seeing them both overcome their fears and take a chance on each other.
As always, the various O'Brien relatives play important parts throughout the book. Mick is always the biggest presence, wanting to direct things the way he thinks they should go. It's always fun to see Megan and Nell find ways to rein him in. Nell had an excellent role in this book as she dispensed love and advice in the form of cooking lessons. She also showed her fair share of O'Brien deviousness when Carrie's ex showed up in Chesapeake Shores. But it was Mack and Susie that had the biggest of the secondary roles. They have had disappointment after disappointment in their quest to adopt, and it has affected Susie very badly. She turns into a real nasty piece of work and I was totally disgusted with her. I thought that Mack and Carrie had an incredible amount of patience with her. She knew she was wrong and would apologize, then turn around and do it again. I did like the way that things went for them at the end.
So right from the start you know how this one is going to end up, yet that didn't matter. I loved how all of the O'Brien's stuck their noses in, they did it with the best intensions. It was fun to see Sam's reaction to the clan, how they welcomed him and Bobby and how he got talked to from a few of the men.
I felt for Carrie, she seemed at lost ends, that Luke's suggestion seemed perfect for her. As soon as I heard it I wanted Carrie to explore things, so when she made that first impulsive step I was cheering her on. While to her family things seemed out of the blue, Carrie had thought things through, her showing them was great!
With how Sam and Carrie's first meeting was you had to wonder about them as a couple. Sam did a great job with Bobby, especially being thrown in. Watching Sam build a relationship with Bobby was just as great as the one he was building with Carrie.
The one downer for me in this one was Susie. I felt for her, I've had friends in her position, but man, she was such a shrew that when she turned up on the page I read faster to make her go away. But with that being said, I was happy with how things ended with her.
As much as I love the characters in this series when I was reading this book I just felt there was just too many to keep up with at times. One thing I adored was a meddling family but only with them helping find their true love and not with business.
I loved Sam and how his character was written. I mean a life long bachelor is now taking care of his 6 year old nephew was sweet but I liked the "how" in how he did it when he wasn't so sure of things.
Carrie was interesting but at times I felt she might be a little stuck up. Dressing in designer stuff while her family was really laid back. You can see right away these two have a chemistry which was great but I did get tired of Carrie not wanting to explore it.
Woods is talented in describing and bringing in key details to a story that just keeps you wanting more. This may not have been my favorite book of the series but I can't wait to read more of this work she has created.
I have read all the books in this series, but I found this one predictable and shallow. The meddling family is tiresome and it's hard to relate to a "trust fund" heroine as she tries to find herself.
This is the story of Carrie Winters and Sam Winslow in Chesapeake Shores. Carrie has returned from Europe and is having a problem moving ahead in her professional or personal life. Sam has just moved to town to work for the local newspaper. He has also just received custody of his nephew,Bobby, after the death of his sister and her husband. The book was a quick easy read.
I love coming back to stories that I've been reading for a while. To towns that make you wish they were real and families you want as your own.
Carrie is home in Chesapeake Shores with her tail between her legs. The man she worked for; and loved; didn't love her back and she was tired of his crap. She quit and moved home. Now she's drifting and O'Briens don't DRIFT! Her grandfather Mick is ready to push her to find out what her life's work is supposed to be. She's just not ready to decide, so she's enjoying watching the children of the family, while they work. One night she meets a guy that's new to town and then she sees he left his nephew in the car alone. She's all over him for doing it in a flash!
Sam only lived in Chesapeake Shores a week before he got the call that his sister and her husband had died, leaving him the custody of his six year old nephew, Bobby. What Sam knows about being a parent is near zero and even worse the little boy asks sometimes when his parents will be back. The concept that they are gone for good is nearly too much for the little boy. Sam doesn't need this woman he doesn't know telling him everything he's doing wrong, even if she is beautiful. That is one complication he doesn't need.
While I hadn't liked Carrie's twin's story, I thoroughly enjoyed Carrie and Sam's story. Sam is in a depth of water he never in a million years he would think he'd have to tread. Carrie is trying to find her path and some how they may just learn the way together. I wish that we didn't have to deal with Susie issues so much this story, but I understood what they brought to the table. It showed how much grief can change and mold. I hope that we get more from Chesapeake Shores. I love the world that it is and the family it surrounds. Leave the author a review, it shows you care and support them!!
I'll began by expressing how much I have admired Woods as an author throughout the years as her stories are always enriched in happiness, in love and of course within the bonds of friendships. Yet, I feel like I am ready for some new material or at least a new series beyond the shores of Chesapeake.
As a reader who has enjoyed most of what this series has offered I was disappointed by this story. I felt like Carrie as the lead character did not fit when comparing her to fellow heroines of the past. She seemed more distant and unlike her family, perhaps even uptight. I found myself unable to relate to her as I did the other characters and I'm not so certain that even at this point that I liked her character all that much.
The same can be not said for Sam, the hero of the story. To my surprise he did pair well with Carrie and he was well written. I enjoyed Sam's company above the other characters. He was handsome with a sense of humor and someone that I could see living within the boundaries of the story and he alone made the romance far more interesting.
I'm certainly not the biggest fan of this book within the series. I feel like as a reader that as a series continue book after book the stories tend to lose some value and are not as strongly written as the early books and yet I will always consider Woods to be an outstanding writer. However I would love to see something a little different the next time I select a book penned by the author.

Sherryl Woods has made another amazing romance book that it will have the reader hook from page one. She has deliver a loving feel that it makes the read so much good! There will be some emotional feeling throughout the book that it will show all of the character true feelings.
Willow Brook Road starts off in a bump road for Carrie and Sam that it takes some time for them to build something together. Carrie is well known in the town that its makes her suffocate that she moved away while she was in college. But something big happened to her that she drops everything and move back into her hometown. However, Carrie is not feeling herself since everyone in her family is breathe down on her since she does not know what to do for her career. I truly felt for Carrie because she has bad luck that she is lost, but she definitely finds herself especially when Sam is in town.
Sam has a rough road ahead of him that he becomes parent unexpectedly that he needs some help that he gets some from Carrie. Sam does not know what to think about Carrie that he is put of element. But he is attract to her since she is kind and beautiful women but he does not want to become too attached to her since she is kinda lost on what she should do for a living. I definitely understand Sam when he does not want to become too attached when he is responsible for a child that he needs stable environment.
They are both lost in Willow Brook Road that they both need to know what they want in life. It does take some time for them that it gives a slow pace for them to build a great loving relationship. Willow Brook Road is a good romance read that it gives a homely field when reading it. Four Stars!
I have never been disappointed with any book by Sherryl Woods that I have read and this one is no different. So make sure you are comfortable when you start this book as you won't get up until you have read the last word.
In Willow Brook Road we are taken back to the town that Mick O'Brien has built, Chesapeake Shores. It is here that Carrie Winters, Mick's granddaughter, returns after a disappointing relationship came to an end. Carrie was in France and working in fashion design and in love or so she thought with Marc Reynolds until her eyes are opened.
Sam Winslow has come to Chesapeake Shores for a new job. He is also grieving over the death of his sister and brother-in-law who were recently killed in an auto accident. Because of this Sam is now the legal guardian for his nephew, Bobby who is five years old. Sam is not having an easy time of it going from a footloose and carefree bachelor to a responsible father figure.
Carrie always seems to be there to help Sam out with Bobby. They are becoming close but Sam has a fear that if he loves her then if he loses her he won't be able to cope with the hurt. He is still healing from his sister's death.
Much goes on with these two from the time they meet...you will also spend some time with Mack and Susie and their problems. You will feel everything they all feel and when you reach the end will have a sweet smile on your face. I never hesitate to pick up a book by Sherryl Woods and you shouldn't either.
Always a pleasure to read a novel by Sherryl Woods! The way she interweaves a huge family and makes them all a part of the book is magical and makes you wish YOU were one of the O'Brien's living in Chesapeake Shores. :)
Carrie Winters has been back in Chesapeake Shores among her extended family for 6 months. She's basically licking her wounds after a breakup with her former boss, fashion icon Marc Reynolds. At a loss of what to do with her life, she is feeling pressure to make a decision just as she meets an interesting man.
Sam Winslow had barely been a resident of the town, when tragedy struck his family and he's now the guardian to his orphaned 6 year old nephew. He's trying to get settled with Bobby, as well as get to work at his new job as the web designer/tech expert at the local paper.
Carrie manages to always be close by when Sam needs help with something and a friendship develops. Carrie finally has an idea of a business that she thinks will make her really happy, and Sam supports her idea and keeps her secret as she explores it. As time passes and their lives interweave, Carrie and Sam admit they are having feelings for each other. Will Carrie decide she's going to make a go of a business in town, or will her old life in the luxurious fashion industry world woo her back?
This is the 13th book in this Chesapeake Shore series. I have read 4 or 5 books in the series, but lost interest after a while. Well a few weeks ago, I received this book along with another book, as a part of a free gift for me. I love free gifts especially if they are books.
It was not difficult to follow the story line even if I missed a lot of the other books in the series. The writing is basicly the same. The O'Brien family is still growing, and just as annoying as in all the other books. Only difference in this story then the ones before... are now the next generation is grown and starting their lives with all the angst that always surrounded the first generation of O'Briens. It becomes tiring sometimes reading about everyone sticking their nose into everyone else's business. I know it is part of the family relationships, but after a while I say: "Move on, enough is enough!"
It was pretty predictable from beginning to the end, boy meets girl, a few ups and downs in between, and finally a "Happily Ever After" ending. The one Pro of this book which I appreciated was the romance was light-hearted. No X-rated romance. My favorite kind of romance novels.
This book is now a part of my personal library and I decided to award it 3 "Willow" stars.
This is book 13 in the Chesapeake Shores series and once again we travel to the town where it seems as if everyone is an O'Brien or related to the family. Mick O'Brien's dream is to have all of his children and grandchildren happily married and he is not above doing some sneaky things behind the scenes to make sure that they end up with the person he approves of. Carrie is the final holdout in the family - she has returned to Chesapeake Shores from Europe after a failed love affair and doesn't even want to think about another relationship. Along comes Sam and his nephew who he has just gained custody of after his sister died. They clash and their relationship is the main story of the novel. There is also a sweet side story about a cousin trying to adopt a baby. Its a great series and this book is fantastic. Loved it
So nice to be back in Chesapeake Shores with lots of O'Briens and extended family around. Mick and Nell were in their element throughout. This time it's Sam and Carrie's story but lots of subplots going on. Heart-wrenching the misfortune befalling Mack and Susie but she was a first class witch as a result! Lots of family, love, businesses, interactions and the feel of real life. Several happily ever afters which just made me smile. Wouldn't mind being a part of the O'Brien clan or living in Chesapeake Shores. Loved the epilogue that tied up the loose ends and I hope to be back in Chesapeake Shores many more times in the future!
Goodness, the O'Brien's are a meddling family. This is number 13 in the series and the family is growing by leaps and bounds. One thing they do have is an unfailing love for each other. Always there when needed and when not needed. A not to be missed read by Sherryl Woods.
I liked the main characters but am not a big fan of books where kids play a significant role in the romance plot. The setting, family and overall feel of the book were good, but the story just wasn't for me.
I've read Sherryl Woods before but not this series (Chesapeake Shores). I didn't realize this was the 13th book in the series (though I did suspect it was not the first) until I came to review it. So it can be read as a stand-alone, though the cast of characters is quite large and may make more sense to you if you've read the series in order.
A friend (MH) sent me two books from this series in a box of books. I suspect the other book from the series comes before this one but didn't realize that until I'd already read part of this one.
The book started slowly (for my taste). It did get better.
Carrie is trying to decide what her calling in life is after quitting her job in the fashion industry and returning to her family's home town.
Sam has become a single parent overnight after his sister and brother-in-law die and leave Sam custody of their son. So much for the travel adventures he dreamed about.
Susie and Mack struggle with wanting a family and having the adoption they'd planned on fall through--especially since Susie's large family seems to bring forth babies at the drop of a hat.

I was a little surprised at Julie's and Lucy's decision--not the decision to move to Chesapeake Shores, but to slowly close the daycare they'd been running. When we're introduced to them, Lucy (and later Julie) make it sound like Lucy will be taking over from her mother when the time comes.
So, despite Carrie's assurances that her daycare would not be competition for Julie's, did it turn out to be the case that it was? Did enough families switch to Carrie's daycare that Julie's business went downhill? Or did Lucy decide she didn't want ownership in a business that was her mom's dream--and might not be hers? We saw early on that Julie said Lucy didn't always have the discipline skills Julie felt she needed to run the daycare.
I guess I just don't buy Lucy's explanation to Carrie about why Lucy wants to work for Carrie rather than her mom or taking over her mom's business. It just seemed like too convenient a way to solve Carrie's dilemma of needing an assistant manager.
