I spotted a display of adult colouring in books in Waterstones earlier this year, and this one in particular caught my eye. As I always loved colouring in when I was little, and will still happily sit and colour in with my nieces now, I was very excited by these.
After looking more extensively at adult colouring books throughout the year, as they've become more popular and more numerous, I have concluded that Emma Farrarons work is the best. The illustrations are the best I've come across in any book so far, the book is a lovely portable size, and the paper stock is good quality so that most pens shouldn't bleed through at all (although thick markers might, I haven't tested those).
It'll take me a while to fill in the whole book, but I'm absolutely loving it. I'm experiencing an undiagnosed chronic pain issue at the moment and this really helps. My world just narrows to colour, lines, and focus and I can pull my mind away from the pains for a while.
Here are a couple of my favourite completed pages!
Now my boys are so much older I miss the crafty things we used to do together. I miss making and colouring in mandalas, doodling, colouring in squares, drawing, painting ... It was always so therapeutic - a great way to calm down.
Recently watching an activity taking place at work made me determined to get at least colouring again so I set out to have a look to see what was available on the market.
What did I find? Colouring for adults :) How great to see how popular it was too! I read through the reviews and decided on The Mindfulness Colouring Book. I love the tag 'Anti-stress art therapy for busy people.' It works :)
I love the compact size (12.4 x 1 x 17.7 cm) and the paper is quality. There are intricate designs and simpler ones plus there are a couple of blank pages for you to do your own. I've tended to flick through and pick a design to suit my mood.
Admittedly so far my colouring has taken place at night by a dim light but it doesn't matter to me too much what it looks like, it's the result of taking my whirling mind away from the day that's passed or the ones yet to come that's important.
I love this colouring book. The drawings are pretty and sitting in bed colouring in it really helps me shut down my mind and get ready for bed. I also love that the pages are thick enough for me to use my beloved triplus fineliner.
A really Good Book !! It's small and compact and easy to carry. There are variety of different designs which you can choose from all from simple shapes to complex designs. The paper quality is also good, so just get yourself a set of good sketch-pens and colours and show you ART !
This (not quite) A5-sized book(let) is packed full of doodles and wallpaper-like patterns. Given its size, some illustrations might be a challenge for people to colour--both detailed and repetitive, but entirely *not* styled like mandalas. The paper is slightly thicker than CreateSpace's, so gel pens or water-based fineliners should be fine if used with restraint. For some reason, I cannot picture myself using regular coloured pencils in this book.
Ultimately, I suppose the main purpose of this book is to colour "on the go" and at a whim, so no major planning or complicated media are involved. Just dive in mindlessly...when the mood comes.
I've recently noticed a huge surge in popularity for adult colouring books and I wanted to get one for myself so after looking at a few in the store I decided on this lovely little one. The designs are just so beautiful and there’s such a huge range to work through. It’s perfect for me, especially during the lead up to stressful exams!
In love with this coloring book! My only complain is the spine is too tight so it's hard for me to completely color each page without breaking the spine (A huge pet peeve of mine, I cannot and will not ever break my spines). Regardless the amount of detail on each page is beautiful! One page alone took me hours to finish so it's perfect for a rainy day or to relax after a long day!
Small factor book sized for travel. Binding is tight so you can't actually colour close to thi side margin. The lines are thick, I prefer a more delicate line for adult coloring. There are no actual artistic pictures, just very plain doodles.
i really love the patterns of the books, i just starting colouring and hopefully i can colouring all the pages. The only thing bother me is the size of the paper, hope it will get bigger size.
