Delivery Multiple crates of high power explosives from the factory, to be delivered to a war torn planet.
There's a pest moving around the ship, and Vytln is the only one who knows its there. He has no proof, no one else has seen anything, but he is determined to catch it. He finally succeeds in catching the pest in a trap. The only problem is that it's his mating a trap. He's been in this situation before. He'd been betrayed and lost everything he prized the last time he caught a female in his trap. He absolutely won't do this again.
Haven spent her entire life breaking things down, building them back up, and chasing after her own curiosity. She'd never met a machine she didn't want to figure out how it worked. The printer in school, the plane in the hanger, the starship that took her off planet without anyone knowing she was there. And now, the broken down starship with a mechanic that was so fun to tease by messing with his wiring. But man, she didn't think he'd be so determined to catch her he'd make a trap this elaborate.
Haven doesn't mind being mated to the big guy, but man does he have baggage. A whole lot of family issues, a former almost-mate, and a criminal record that would make most people run.
He's not the only one with a past, however, in this crew of ne'er-do-wells. Their old crimes are coming home to roost, and it's affecting all of them.
The ship and crew are facing a threat much bigger than themselves, and things will never be the same again.
Vytln's Trap is the third in the Delivery Service series. It is a MF romance with a HEA and a complete story between the leads. Though each story can be read as a standalone, this series is best read in order. Tropes and trigger page inside.
3.5⭐ Honestly, I usually love Talia Rhea's books, but this one was just a miss for me. There was a lot of telling rather than showing, and it felt like chunks of the relationship between the MCs happened in the background between scenes until we got to the major confrontation points of the story. I still really enjoyed the book and the arc plot of the series is compelling, but this installment felt a little rushed.
I was also quite frustrated by the number of spelling mistakes I came across, but I understand that might be a bit nitpicky!
Kinky, Neurospicy, great Plot and I desperately need the next book!
I cannot find the right words to describe how much I loved this book. The build-up for this story started in Sway's Peace with a little pest, only Vytln seemed to see. I was already hooked when I realised what that meant for this book.
We have Vytln, with stone-like skin, whose blood runs hot like lava. He has baggage, just like the rest of the crew. As the ship's mechanic and maintenance in one person, he is really busy. Within his workshop is his mating trap, something his species is biologically driven to build to catch their mate. Obviously he didn't expect to trap something, since all females on board know what it is and to avoid it. Haven is a neurospicy baddie with a really weird special interest. She loves to understand how things work. So she breaks them to put them back together. That's what she did all her life and how she started to get into things she wasn't supposed to. She travelled within plane's mechanical rooms and somehow achieved to hitch a ride to the lunar Base. After that she began following Grace (FMC in Sway's Peace) and that's how she ended up on board the Humility.
The overall plot is about Vytln's past and how it catches up with the humility and their crew. That's kind of the theme in this series, but I am always amazed how very different the stories themselves are and how amazing the characters are written.
The spice in this book is kind of kinky (a little bit of BDSM, chains, sensory deprivation) and I loved it so much! It fits for the characters (although I am really surprised that a species has such instinct) since Haven is very neurodivergent coded. I can really relate with her and especially with how she describes her feelings during intimacy.
If you've read the first two books (which I recommend) you know of the overarching plot, concerning Alred. And I am so excited about the developments in this book! There will probably be 4 more books after this one (if every crew member gets their HEA) and I am so curious how we get to the Epilogues.
This book ends in a massive cliff hanger (kind of) and I cursed Talia Rhea for her amazing writing, because I would do everything to know how this series continues!
The adventure continues with this sci-fi spicy romance. Haven was a delight with her determination to explore everything. Loved her teasing nature and how her joy was such a wonderful contrast to Vytlin's grumpiness. The story of the on going danger to the crew was softened by the fun of Haven and Vyrlin's relationship. I'm looking forward to the next couple and how the crew get out of the tight spots they manage to find themselves in.
Oh my god I had so much fun!! I love love love Haven so much and just ugggggg I was giggling the whole time! I love how she basically taught herself common, as someone who loves the language barrier aspect of Sci-fi romances, her speaking was just amazing and i loved it. Definitely more fluffy than expecting but that’s all chill, Havens chaos deserves a little bit of calm.
For fans of Deiri Di, enjoy this representation of black profoundly autistic FMC. Not my favorite of the series, that is still held by Tanin himself, but also deeply enjoyed the growing romance between alred and Goldie
The heroine in this book is not the type of character I enjoy reading books about. She’s a tinkerer but the author makes her out to be this giggly dummy when in the relationship & thats not my vibe.
