The cloud by day and the fire by night stand as a sacred billboard, selling us on the promise that God is ever present with His people, even in wilderness seasons—perhaps particularlyin wilderness seasons. As you follow the firecloudthrough the pages of Scripture, you will be drawn into the sacred hope that God’s presence is still undeniably with you and before you.
There have been three books I’ve read in the last year that have been game changers for me. The first is God’s Lavish Grace by Terry Virgo. The second is Joy in the Sorrow by Matt Chandler, and the third is this book, A Fire By Night by Alan Frow. All three building on each other in ways that only God could orchestrate.
This book is a balanced exhortation from a pastor’s heart that dares you to not to settle for great stories of God but for God Himself…His very presence. After all, He has been pursuing us through the ages for the very same thing. It is theological in its foundation, God centered in its focus, and Hope-filled in its honesty. There is so much here that my copy of the book has been highlighted, underlined, written on, and dog-eared, surely calling for a second read. My encouragement…don’t speed read this book, but take your time with it and don’t race through its truths. May you truly meet God within its pages.
