Rate this book
The mountain demands a sacrifice.

Lian expects death when she is sent into the winter peaks as an offering. Instead, she survives—and finds herself trapped in a crumbling fortress beside Marcus, a ruthless exiled lord who rules a frozen kingdom no one remembers.

But survival comes with a price.

A dark bond now ties them together. If Lian strays too far from Marcus, the magic steals the air from her lungs.

If she stays, she must live beside a man who trusts no one… in a mountain that is beginning to wake.

As winter deepens and buried secrets surface, Lian realizes the sacrifice that brought her here may not be as simple as it seemed.

And something ancient is stirring beneath the stone.

Because when the mountain wakes, dragons follow.

I was so excited when Kade Vale sent me the ARC for the new book!! On to the review, no spoilers!
This fantasy is in 3rd person and follows Marcus and Lian on their journey of being sent to exile. Its an emotional journey, for me anyways. There's lies, coverups, battles, and dragons. The crown and priests think they run the kingdom, but really it's the mountain. The mountain lets them think that as its just waiting for the right people. The crown deems Marcus unworthy of the crown as he's a great leader that people easily trust and follow as well as a great general. Doesn't matter that he's a prince, so off to exile he goes. The priest deems Lian a nobody and someone that is easily forgotten as she is only a lowly common girl, and is sent to exile to maybe bond with Marcus. The mountain not only accepts both, but it also helps reveal the lies the priest has told and the crown accepts as true. In the end, the mountain, Marcus and Lian win. There really is so much that goes on in the book that I dont want to spoil anything!! You'll just have to read it to find out! Book comes out on 3/21!!! Seventh Oath is a 5 star read for me and the top read of the year!!!

Listen… this book really said “corrupt religion, fake prophecy, forced sacrifice, AND a dragon with attitude” and expected me to stay calm?? Absolutely not. I was INVESTED.

So the kingdom is out here running on fraud manufactured prophecy, shady priests, and a whole sacrificial system that screams “we’ve been doing this wrong for generations.”

Marcus and Lian get magically tethered together, and not in a cute “oh we can feel each other’s emotions” way. But eventually? That bond turns into trust, loyalty, and a partnership that feels earned. No insta-love nonsense just two people surviving a system that tried to break them.
Oh you thought the corruption would stay hidden?

Nope.

The return of the dragon is basically the universe saying:
“You lied. You cheated. Now deal with it.”And that Ash Dragon showdown?? PURE CHAOS. The Priest really said, “If I’m going down, I’m taking everything with me,” and summoned literal destruction. Sir… dramatic, but expected.

Because any story where a mountain rejects corruption, a dragon exposes lies, and two people rebuild a broken system?

Yeah… that’s the kind of oath I’m willing to swear to!

A victory repaid in exile

There is so much more of the story I want to know! I hope Kade Vale comes back to this world in the future so we can get more on the dragons, the mountain, and the creature that climbed the wall. I definitely enjoyed seeing the bond between Marcus and Lian built with him seeming to not want her around and then changing to keeping her at his side. I like that this was wrapped up within the one book but I see so much that can come from this for the future. Hopefully we can get a follow up! The only things I struggled with which took away from the book was some repetitive dialog and the similarities in name with Lian and Eilan, but with that aside it was still such a good read.

This was a fun read! Completely different from Kade's other book. It has all the fantasy elements you can think of, dragons, kingdoms, and a rewritten destiny. Definitely a young adult fantasy, can be enjoyed by a younger audience. There are no explicit scenes, no crude language, and no trigger warnings are needed. The story itself was a little jumbled and hard to follow sometimes, even gets repetitive in the second half, but it was still a fun and entertaining. I actually wish there was more story! I would have loved to see more character development, more background into the setting of The Mountain within the main kingdom.  There is a tension between the MMC and MFC, but they don't actually end up doing anything or end up getting together. I think that could have been a fun element to include.

Seventh Oath had me hooked from the start—dragons, danger, and a story where staying might kill you… but leaving isn’t an option either.

The tension?? IMMACULATE. The world-building pulled me in fast, and the stakes kept climbing with every chapter. I loved the mix of fantasy and emotional conflict—it felt intense without losing the heart of the story.

If you love high-stakes fantasy with a touch of romance and betrayal… this one’s for you. 🔥🐉

What a great fantasy read!! In her second book, Kade Vale brings us dragons and ancient, magical bonds. Our main characters are Marcus and Lian. Marcus is the character I found most interesting. He is an exiled Lord of a long forgotten, frozen kingdom. I'd love to hear more about his story. Lian thinks she is a nobody. She is a normal citizen with no claim to riches or nobility. Their paths cross in the most unexpected way.

The author worked wonders creating a society and culture that worships ancient gods & goddesses. Debts must be paid and sacrifices offered, no matter the cost or the daughter. It is the priest's duty to uphold the laws of succession and choose the next sacrificial daughter accordingly. The priest, however, has other ideas. I truly appreciate how immersive the world is. Be aware that this book is written from the third person point of view. This style is not typically my favorite, but the author did a stellar job at showcasing when a third person POV is the most effective.

If you're a reader that appreciates scandalous mysteries and unbelievable lies, then you will likely find this book is for you. And if nothing else, THERE ARE DRAGONS - 7 of them to be exact :)

I am officially a Kade Vale superfan. This book jumps straight into the action, Marcus, fresh off a battlefield victory, is exiled to a mountain that demands a sacrifice. When Lian’s name is drawn, she expects death, but instead finds Marcus. After he saves her, a dark magical bond ties them together, growing stronger as they uncover the temple’s dark secrets and the truth behind the mountain's awakening. I don’t usually reach for "Kingdom and Dragon" fantasies. I’m usually strictly a dark romance reader, but Kade’s writing style sucked me right in (again). The 3rd person POV works perfectly here, building a world full of mysteries secrets and lies that you uncover right alongside the characters. Kade Vale really has a way of making any premise addictive.

All the hard work the MMC and dedication gave to his family and kingdom only to be banned because they feared them.

The FMC answers to a calling and has to make a decision that may or may not have consequences.

With the MMC support she makes her decision. The question is was it the right choice.

I found The Seventh Oath really surprisingly good. 📖✨️
The writing style is concise and vivid, immediately immersing you in that dark, oppressive atmosphere. Sometimes I missed some extra details, but it really kept drawing me in. ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 — definitely recommended if you love dark fantasy. 🔥
