I absolutely flew through this book. I started it yesterday evening and couldn't put it down until I finished. If you enjoyed Hostile Protection, you are going to want to jump straight into this one because the story picks up perfectly and had me completely hooked from beginning to end.
Hallie was such a great FMC. She's strong, stubborn, determined, and never backs down, which made her so much fun to read. The suspense kept me on edge throughout the entire book, and there were several moments where I had no idea how everything was going to play out.
This series definitely leans darker, so I recommend checking the content warnings before diving in. The mystery, danger, and constant tension kept the pages turning, and I loved how action packed everything felt.
My only real complaint is that I wanted more. Once everything reached its conclusion, I wasn't ready for it to end. I easily could have read another couple hundred pages with these characters.
This is absolutely a series that should be read in order, as each book builds on the previous one! I cannot wait for book three!

I was absolutely gutted after book one and was very impatiently awaiting the arrival of book two.
Hallie was set out to seek revenge on Brett’s killer. Brett’s best friend, Aaron provided side-kick action.
Hallie would do whatever it takes, including offering herself up for a human trafficking ring. Reluctantly, Aaron(or so she thought) came up with a new plan for her to pose as a wealthy girl with an inheritance to blow instead.
In order to push through with her plan, she would have to get close with lower men on the totem pole, in order to work her way to the top dog.
A set up led to a hit being put out on Hallie(Hannah) and a second “bodyguard” had to save the day, providing a safe extraction.
Little did she know, this savior would be her “dead” boyfriend.
Will the actions of keeping the secret of Brett being not so dead cause a ripple in the revenge plan? Will Brett, Aaron and Hallie ever reach a ceasefire in order to end this madness once and for all? Will Hallie ever forgive Brett and get their happily ever after?

Wow!!!!!! I can’t give this story enough stars! I absolutely love Mackenzie’s writing. This is book 2 and it didn’t disappoint. After book 1, I was gutted and heartbroken and a little pissed off at the ending. But I couldn’t wait to read this one and see how all the pieces fell together and it blew me away.
I seriously read it in less than 24 hours and loved every damn minute of it. As I started reading last night, I came upon a part that made me scream with joy and squeal with surprise.(I can’t explain more or it will spoil it) I nearly scared my husband half to death when I did it, lol.
This story continues from book one with my favorite FMC, Hallie, who is a badass and determined to take revenge on everyone who took Brett away from her. She teams up with Brett’s friend and partner, Aaron to take down these criminals from the inside and make them all pay!
I love the drama, revenge, secrets, surprises and the love that all the characters face. The only draw back is that I finished the book too quickly and wanted more.

If you're looking for a romance with edge-of-your-seat suspense and plenty of unexpected turns, definitely add this one to your TBR.

3.75 ⭐️I was so happy to finally continue the story of what happened after Hostile Protection. I loved Hallie and Brett together in the first book and was devastated at the end of it.
I finished this book in just under 3 hours from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down!
Hallie teams up with Aaron Brett’s best friend to get her revenge on the Mafia men who took out Brett.
This book had me invested since the beginning. It was full of action and I wasn’t sure what was going to happen through most of the story. Mackenzie knows how to write to hold your attention. The twists and turns were everything in this book!
The only reason for my lower star rating is because I felt the story lacked in the reunion with Hallie and Brett. I understood her frustration and I’m glad that she stood her ground and didn’t fall into his arms. However I wished there would have been a better reconnection between them in the story. Their chemistry was so strong in the first book and I wished we could have seen that with them together in this book.
I still can’t wait to read the next book!

After the absolute emotional dAmAgE of Hostile Protection (I still hadn't recovered!), I had been impatiently waiting for this book because I needed to know what happened after that cliffhanger.
This book picks up exactly where the last one left off, and we are thrown straight back into the action.
Hallie is an absolute weapon, and I was completely here for it. The storyline had me hooked from beginning to end, with plenty of suspense (it was suspense-ing) and twists that I genuinely didn't see coming. There was one particular twist that made me especially happy... (IYKYK!)
I absolutely loved this book, and the series so far and I was so happy with how this book ended. Totally satisfied. Now I'm counting down the days until we get to see what's next for our Aaron!

I was still gutted, heartbroken, and mildly furious from the first book’s ending, so I dove into this one like a woman possessed, and it blew my entire soul into orbit.
I read the whole thing in under 24 hours because I physically could not stop. At one point I hit a twist so wild I screamed....actual, out‑loud, feral joy and nearly sent my husband into cardiac arrest. Worth it.
Hallie remains my favorite FMC of all time: unhinged, vengeful, emotionally scorched earth, and ready to burn down the world for Brett. Teaming up with Aaron to dismantle criminals from the inside? If I could rate this 8 stars I would! When I tell you I couldn't wait to read this one after finishing the first, I immediately emailed Mackenzie after reading Hostile Protection begging to be first in line for this one. And low and behold I'm the first to leave a review!
The suspense and action had me on the edge of my seat. I literally did not put this book down once after starting. This series 1000% needs to be a movie or TV series. I can already see it on screen. The way I jumped up and down and screamed with relief when Brett returned. At the end of book 1 I was heartbroken. How could the story end so soon?! Brett and Hallie were the perfect couple and their personalities were so well written.
I loved how strong and fierce Hallie was, even when she was crumbling inside. We also love a girl who makes a man work for it. Brett needed to redeem himself. I loved the past POV, Hallie’s journal entries, just all of it.

After feeling my stomach drop at the end of the last book, this one made me feel good!! I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect and when the twist came up I asked myself “is this a good thing or too much” and the reality is it was good.
I wish there was more of a “reunion” to Brett and Hallie but at the same time it fit with this book which was good action packed to stop! I actually think I liked the plot of this one more than the first!

This book is a perfect continuation of the story started in Hostile Protection. Hallie’s mission for revenge is in full force. She must navigate her grief in order to find answers and answers she does find. I was unable to put this book down. I cried at 2 simple words. Never underestimate a girl on a mission.

I loved this book! After the last one I held out hope and when my theory proved correct I was over the moon! Hallie is just as much as headstrong as she was if not more on her streak of revenge!
This book was full of suspense and seeing the whole issue get resolved was great!
I cannot wait for book 3 for Aaron’s story!

I got the privilege and was able to get an ARC copy of Hostile Conditions the second book in the Hostile Hearts series, and this book healed my broken heart.
