Shadowmen #1

Shadow Prince

Rate this book
What if your childhood bogeyman turned out to be real? And a real pain in the ass?

Apparently, the monster under my bed imprinted on me as a child. Like a baby duck. A six-foot, insufferably hot, made-of-shadows baby duck.

He claims he's a prince from the Shadow Realm. His powers have been bound, and he's been exiled to the human world.

And now the only person he can feed on is me. Because of our childhood bond.

The problem? He used to feed on my fear. Now that we're adults, he needs something... else. Something that involves him being a lot closer. And me wearing a lot less.

So what do you do when the monster that lurked under your bed now wants to be in your bed?

I should send him back to whatever dark realm spat him out.

He's shameless. Smug. Thinks materialising in my bedroom uninvited is foreplay.

Never mind that he's cocky, insufferable, or that he's far too charming for something that used to live under my furniture.

I should sage my entire life and move on.

He's a shadow with a filthy mouth and no boundaries. He’s my worst nightmare, in all sorts of ways.

But he needs my help.

He used to lurk under my bed. Now he's under my skin.

Shadow Prince is an MM Nightmare-To-Lovers Romance. It's Book 1 of the new Shadowmen series. Each book will follow a different human and shadow man couple. Every book has a happy ever after and no cliffhanger. There will be six books in total.

♥︎ Hex & Adam

This was delightful. Simple but very, very delightful. Can’t wait for the next one.

Wait. Oh no. No, no, no. I know what this is. I know exactly what this is. The monster under my bed.

“Hello, My Love.” I turn back to my pasta, determinedly stirring. “Go away.”

“You look very cute when you’re exasperated, by the way.”
“Don’t.” I point at him. “I’m not cute. I’m annoyed.”
“You can be both.” He sounds genuinely delighted. “You frequently are.”

“So you’re going to feed on me until you get your full strength back. Then what?” […]“I’m getting my throne back.”

When the monster that haunted Adam’s childhood from under his bed returns in his adulthood, all he can feel is fear. But Hex isn’t back to haunt Adam, no, he needs to feed off of Adam..and this time, it’s not his fear he needs to feed off of 😜😜😜

This book has:
-a sexy shadow daddy with a knack for organization
-human x monster fun
-the “we need to have s*x for power” trope
-fun side characters
-a mousy MC that learns to be brave

This book was actually a lot of fun! I love the “monster under the bed” trope, and this book did it in a fun way. Though the plot isn’t super exciting, it still drives the story forward well, and there was definitely never a dull moment! I ended up loving Hex, and especially liking Adam’s witchy friend Felix!

As with all shadow daddies, the spicy potential was THERE! I kind of wish the spicy scenes were more dramatic, since the whole “I need your pleasure to fuel my power” thing was the main thing driving the plot, but there were still “tendrils” and you just KNOW that’s fun.

Honestly, this author writes really fun fantasy stuff, and really deserves more love! I hope to read more from this series, and really enjoyed this book! ❤️

- Sex as Food
- Mutual Agreement to More

This was actually a sweet and fun read. Adam used to have a monster under his bed when he was a child but it's been gone for a while now. He still has sleep paralysis so when it kicks in one night when his monster reappears, well you can guess how well Adam took it. Once Adam learns more about Hex's current situation, these two come to a mutually beneficial agreement. As these two are spending time together, basically living as a couple, they learn more about each other and help change each others lives. Their looming deadline puts a damper on their little domestic bliss though. A fight is brewing and our MCs will have to be prepared for Hex's departure. The banter and snark from all of the characters were a nice touch to lighten up the vibe of the book overall.

There are some tough topics included that maybe could've been delved into deeper, which would have made it a little bit longer, bringing more depth to the characters and their relationships. I honestly have a harder time with Single POV because I really want to know what's going on in both characters heads. Here we only get Adam's POV, so it's more of a glimpse of the entire situation that's happening throughout the book. There were also a few inconsistencies that threw me off.

The side characters are very intriguing and looks like some future stories will come from them.

Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
- Graphic sexual content between consenting adults
- Explicit language
- Anxiety
- Bullying
- Decapitation
- Fire / trapped in burning building
- Grief from relationship breakup
- Home invasion
- Infliction of physical pain
- Insecurity and low self-esteem
- Intimidation and threats
- Murder
- Near loss of a loved one
- Peril
- Sleep paralysis
- Threat to life
- Unloving parents
- Unsecure housing
- Tentacles holding throat during sex

Super fun idea that I would have loved in the author's usual writing style. As it is, the lack of him editing out the Claude-isms for the last two thirds of the book sucked all the life out of the story and made it virtually unreadable. I *may* pick up the next book in the series, since once again, the premise sounds fun, but if a skim of book 2 shows more of the same, I'm out. 🤷‍♀️

Hex just telling us that Adam was a doormat was kinda boring. We got a scene showing it with Adam's mom in the following chapter, but I wish we'd seen it happen more often prior to that to really sell that Adam was letting people walk all over him.

There was a contradiction in Hex's speech in chapter 4. On page 37, he says that Adam hate his job, but Adam explicitly said that "despite everything, he liked working there" on page 11.

I liked that Adam was explicit about not wanting to be a one night stand, though I don't think the story had presented a real reason for why he wasn't just willing to be FWBs with Hex. It just sort of assumes that we believe that Adam wants to only have meaningful sexual partners without actually showing evidence of it before it happens. Also, I wish we actually saw them meaningfully interact rather than having a timelapse of their dinner explaining that Hex asked Adam about his day and other surface level shit. Sure, it was a date, but it was so dull and shallow. I needed to see them form a meaningful bond outside of the physical attraction and guilt (which is all the relationship had been based on at that point).

Not sure I liked how Adam just immediately took Hex's word for what happened to him. I would've enjoyed a longer period of mistrust and have had Hex prove himself first rather than just believing him the first time he told Adam about his situation. Adam agreeing to help Hex right after he threw salt on him was justified because he felt guilty in the moment. Him still feeling guilty a day after didn't feel like it made sense considering Hex had done nothing for Adam to change his opinion of him after he'd calmed down from panicking about the salt. Hex helping against the gangsters that showed up earlier that day was kinda it, but I feel like more skeptical people would've accused Hex of orchestrating the entire situation first rather than just believing that Hex helped out of the goodness of his heart.

Describing an orgasm as going on and on, receding, then flaring back to life, waning, renewing, and refusing to fade was honestly sort of cringy (actual play by play of how Adam describes his sensations on pages 82-83).

OK yeah, I had to call it quits after that awful dinner scene. Hex having no qualms about possessing a man was understandable because he's literally a demon. Adam not making a bigger deal about another person literally losing their autonomy just so that Hex could lie to his family about how Adam was supposedly now worth praise for having bagged a successful boyfriend was disgusting. Having a handsome and successful BF isn't an achievement in itself and misses the point of Adam's conflict of feeling like a failure (ESPECIALLY when Adam only really started their relationship out of panic and guilt AND Hex was lying anyway)

The story acts like there's conflict here with Adam saying the right things like:
- being scared Hex is only using him to feed and lying a out his affection
- being scared about what happens after this thing between him and Hex inevitably ends
- having low self esteem over his inadequacies especially compared to his cousin

But it's all surface level because the story doesn't develop those issues. Adam just says them through internal monologue, then it's BAM sex scene or some other shallow date without actually showing us anything to make those fears exist outside of Adam's head.

The book hasn't really made a good argument that Hex was actually in love with Adam, so it really did just seem like he was using Adam to feed so there was no reason for Adam to have an emotional investment in their situationship since because of it.

The way Hex tries to do the whole "you're already extraordinary, Adam. You just don't see it" thing doesn't work when Adam literally hasn't been shown to have anything to be proud of. Adam's problem wasn't an issue with perspective. He dropped out of college, worked a dead-end job, and lived rent free in his uncle's apartment that he needed to vacate soon. What about that could be solved by pretty words and "claws"? Yeah, standing up to a difficult customer is a fine showing of "not being a pushover" but it's hardly worth celebrating and isn't the great show of character the book tries to make it out to be. Adam had an accurate appraisal of his life at that point, but the author seemingly didn't because of they write Hex's encouragement as somehow being the answer to Adam's internal conflict, which it wasn't. The only way for that to have made sense was if Adam actually had something worth celebrating but his personal hangups and perspective causes him to downplay his achievements and put himself down. Adam needed to volunteer/work at a charity that didn't pay well or something along those lines to have had it make sense.

TL;DR: This is basically reads like the most basic and shallow billionaire romance trope, but instead of money, Hex's influence comes from his powers and charisma. And despite literally not having anything worthwhile as a person, Adam magically gets the guy of his dreams because WORD OF GOD says they're "bonded" so of course he doesn't need to work at all for his romance and all his problems are solved by said romance. I would've said the sex was fine, but even that had problems (extra long orgasm just sounded cringe honestly). 1.5 stars rounded up.

Reading S. Rodman is like enjoying a favorite candy bar. I’m always totally entertained and satisfied, even though the substance isn’t always there. I could not put this down, read it in one night then morning.

Adam remembers being scared to death of the monster under his bed when he was a kid. As a 26 year old adult, he should be beyond that, but…now, in the middle of the night, there’s a 7 foot shadow with red eyes staring at him…hungrily. 😍😱

Turns out, Adam and his monster, Hex, formed a bond all those years ago, when the monster was just a kid too. And now, his monster is a dethroned prince of the Shadow Realm…and he needs Adam’s help to regenerate/heal/live to fight back for his throne.

Guess how he needs to get energy these days?!

Mm hmm. 🔥💕🔥💕🔥

This was a page turner, nice tight chapters, something constantly moving the story forward, and while it isn’t very deep, and we don’t get to see Hex’s world (we do go there, just…don’t see it. You’ll “see” heh heh), there’s enough here to form a tasty meal, with Adam’s crappy family being explored in one rather hilarious scene, and Hex’s People (Night, Dark, Fiend…!) making cameos and meeting Adam in startling and entertaining, engaging ways.

There’s also a minor subplot with a Very Entitled Customer at Adam’s job—he’s a barista, with an amazing witch co-worker, Felix, who also has a big part to play—that does not end well for the customer. Because. Hex is always watching. 😂🥰

But the main plot involves Hex being banished by the usurper, a very powerful…uh…fellow shadow?...named Dis (ha ha I know, I know), and what Hex must do…and when he must leave…to fix things in the Shadow Realm. The end is nigh. What will our lovebirds…uh…love-human-shadow? do…?

Wonderful setup with a terrific payoff in the end. And wow, I cannot WAIT to see Felix’s revenge for…things that happen…with a certain someone. New MC, who Dis?! LMAO.

This one delivered a great read.

HEA, human-shadow prince, bonded, sex as food, HOT sex, did I mention screaming?! No OP action, a note of OP drama because, well, Hex isn’t exactly up front about something, but…it’s all good and safe for me. I guess the only thing I didn’t like was the knowledge that Hex has been watching Adam all this time, and Adam’s had boyfriends and Hex knows exactly how long it’s been since he was intimate with anyone (2 years), and isn’t bothered, and that ain’t my thing, but, it’s all past, barely mentioned, off page, no big. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait for the next story!

Here's S Rodman's "Shadow Prince." It's the first novel in the Shadowmen series.

["What if your childhood bogeyman turned out to be real? And a real pain in the ass?

But he needs my help.

He used to lurk under my bed. Now he's under my skin."]

This wasn't as dark or as scary as I had expected. It was pure fluff and protection and obsession. The steam was there, but that was also lesser than I had expected.

This book was just all kinda of sweet and organization and healing (of so many kinds) and found family and teasers to future books.

I've been seeing this book advertised for sooo long in so many different ways and formats. I'm really upset with myself that I didn't give it a chance sooner.

Trigger Warnings: bullying, decapitation, fire/trapped in burning building, grief from relationship breaking, home invasion, infliction of physical pain, intimidation and threats, murder, near loss of a loved one, peril, relationship break-up, sleep paralysis, threat to life, unloving relationship, un-secure housing, and more.

When James was little he had a monster under his bed. Getting older he grew over it.
Now at twenty-six, there’s a shadow standing in his bedroom, a very large and very attractive creature. He’s dreaming of course, he has to be.
Nuh-uh, not dreaming at all.

Hex is the prince of the Shadow Realm. His powers are fading, he needs to feed from Adam. When they were both younger, he fed from Adam’s nightmares, now, he wants to feed from his pleasure.

When Adam understands that Hex is fading away, he wants to help. Oh my goody, Hex fulfils every thinkable pleasure. Their bond is strong. Hex worships Adam, calling him ‘My Love’ and protecting him every single day.

We are introduced to the other shadow men. They came by to, or support Hex, or to threaten him.
And there’s gothic Felix, Adam’s boss. So great to meet him.

Hex isn’t here only for the fun; he has a purpose. Feed from Adam, get stronger, and go back to the Shadow Realm, fight, and take over his throne. He’ll be gone. It’s inevitable.

Adam is devastated that Hex will be gone for good. He knew it would happen, but still.

What a great concept for this new series. I love the way this author writes. It’s always clear, focused on the important aspects, super emotional, darkish but not too dark, with wonderful main characters and intriguing plots.
So happy the author started writing this new series, I enjoyed this one very much!

All the other shadow men will be getting their own book. Dark, Night, Wraith, Fiend, and Dis.
Can’t wait for the next one.

Despite the dark nature of the title and being part of a series about Shadowmen, this book was surprisingly lighthearted for the most part. I enjoyed the concept of the monster under the bed finding the child he used to terrify as an adult and just expecting him to come to terms with it reasonably. To be fair, Adam did take a lot of the whole Shadow people concept better than most.

Hex was an interesting character. He tended to keep secrets from Adam, but all along you could tell how much he actually did feel for him. He also gave Adam a much needed push to help him stand up for himself more in his everyday life. He knew there was a strong man behind Adam's timidness and that hidden strength came in handy more than once during the book with a few helpful hints from a certain Fiend (please may he get his own book!)

"𝙸'𝚖 𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚢 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚍 𝚘𝚏 𝚢𝚘𝚞, 𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚕𝚎 𝚑𝚞𝚖𝚊𝚗. 𝚈𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚌𝚕𝚊𝚠𝚜 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚙 𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚎𝚍."

The steam was hot. Shadowmen have a talent and they know how to use it to their and their lover's advantage. I am totally looking forward to the next book where Adam's witchy gothic co-worker/ maybe bestie is going to be showing his own Shadow King who's boss. The listing is already on GR and states it's Daddy kink. The burning question I have is, who is gonna be the Daddy?

This is a wonderfully offbeat take on the “monster under the bed” idea, turning a childhood fear into something far more complicated and a lot more grown-up. What begins with a slightly eerie premise quickly shifts into a mix of humour, heat, and emotion as Adam realises his imaginary childhood terror is very real… and very persistent.

Hex makes for a memorable love interest: arrogant, intense, and oddly endearing despite his lack of boundaries. The dynamic between them leans heavily into that push-and-pull of disbelief, frustration, and undeniable attraction, and it’s clear their connection runs deeper than either of them initially expects.

There’s more going on beneath the surface too, with hints of a larger world and looming responsibilities pulling Hex in another direction. That underlying tension gives the story a bit of weight without taking away from the fun, slightly chaotic energy of their interactions.

It’s an imaginative start to a new series, blending paranormal romance with a playful edge. If you’re after something a little darker but still character-driven and emotional, this is an engaging and promising first instalment.

Adam discovers that the childhood monster under his bed was real — a shadowy being named Hex who imprinted on him years ago and has now returned, exiled from the Shadow Realm and dependent on Adam to survive. Hex is smug, intrusive, and impossible to ignore, but he needs Adam’s help, and their old bond keeps pulling them together. Adam knows he should send him away, yet the creature who once hid under his bed is now firmly under his skin.

I loved the unusual, reluctant connection between Adam and Hex — a bond Adam fights every step of the way until he finally starts believing the truth Hex has been insisting on from the start. Their dynamic is equal parts chaotic, funny, and unexpectedly tender, and watching Adam slowly give in to what’s growing between them is one of the story’s biggest delights. The humour was funny, especially Hex’s compulsive need to reorganise Adam’s flat like a shadow‑realm housekeeper with opinions. The side characters added even more charm and energy, each bringing their own fun to the chaos swirling around Adam and Hex. Amid the jokes and banter, there’s real drama and moments of danger that keep the tension high. Altogether, it’s a lively, emotional, and thoroughly entertaining read. This was an MM story with mature content.

Heartfelt British romcom

Shadow Prince is such a charming surprise. The writing style is sharp and punchy, giving the story a light, playful rhythm that perfectly suits its tone. The dynamic between the characters is where it really shines, with a quietly devoted, ever-present shadow prince who is equal parts smug, affectionate, and deeply supportive. Watching him gently nudge the main character out of his people-pleasing habits adds a lovely emotional core beneath all the humor, and their connection feels rooted in being seen, safe, and understood.

It’s the small, domestic moments that make this feel special, morning routines, reorganising coffee mugs, endless cups of tea, and simply existing together in an easy, intimate way. There’s a whimsical quality paired with a very British, stoic tendency to leave emotions unspoken, letting actions carry the weight instead. Supported by fun side characters like the goth best friend and relatable touches like chaotic coffee shop customers, the world feels warm and lived-in without overwhelming the story. Soft, funny, a little emotional, and deeply comforting, this is a romance built on quiet intimacy and love in the ordinary.

I absolutely loved Adam and Hex, the mousy human and the banished Shadow Prince. Hex was the monster under Adam's bed when he was a child, but he has now returned to twenty-six year old Adam to get his nourishment and power from much more adult, sexy time ways. Adam is naturally reluctant because he was so terrified as a child, but he also feels an unusual pull towards Hex. Their journey together is so much more than Hex getting power, it is about Hex getting Adam to stand up for himself and to realize that he too is more powerful than he believes himself to be. The connetion between them feels so genuine and their HEA is heartfelt.
There are some intense moments in this book and a lot more emotions that I was originally expecting, but that I truly enjoyed. There are some laughs mixed in with some serious situations, and a few secondary characters that added so much depth to this story - and I can't wait for their stories!

This book is very well written, introduces readers to an interesting new world, is very entertaining and engaging, and will leave you wanting more.

This was such a fun, genuinely cute read, and I had a really great time with it. The premise alone hooked me: the monster under Adam's bed…except the monster imprinted on him as a child and never really let him go. Now fast forward to adulthood, and that same shadowy presence is back in Adam's life, only things are… different. The setup is creative, a little quirky, and surprisingly sweet.

Hex and Adam were so enjoyable together. Yes, there’s a bit of insta-love here...and as I've said time and time again, I’ll be the first to admit that’s not usually my favorite, but when it’s done right, it works. And it works here. Because for all the ways Hex should be intimidating, he’s anything but when it comes to Adam. There’s something really soft underneath all that shadow and attitude. He tries to play it cool…but let’s be honest, he’s all in from the start.

Overall, this was a really good start to what looks like a promising series, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

Shadow Prince, book 1 in the Shadow Men series by S. Rodman was fantastic. I really loved the concept of the “monster from under the bed” growing up along with the main character. Going from being under the bed to desiring to be in the bed….

Hex, the exiled Shadow Prince and Adam, the Barista, Felix the witch, as well as other characters bring this story to life. Get yourself a cozy blanket and cup of Tea and get ready for a sweet and spicy adventure. I think S Rodman writes some of the most real life feeling characters of most writers today and I really appreciate that even in the midst of fantasy there is he reflection of real life.

People have flaws, insecurities, baggage, sometimes chains or bindings. Some times love can be quiet and full of worry for the man of your dreams as he fights his battles. Small and large some mild some harrowing. I loved this sweet story and I would whole heartedly recommend it to be on your TBR list. It has Spicy moments that will delight and inspire you and it has a happy ending.

Possibly it's me, not the book.

This had way, way too much tell, and far too little show. Even the sex scenes seemed to be short and not describing much about what was happening. And considering Hex's whole deal is he needs to feed on Adam's lust and pleasure so he doesn't starve to death, you would think it'd be more descriptive.

I did enjoy the first 60% or so. Adam was so cute, and Hex was *so* smitten. Then Adam just kept pulling away, Hex let him, and it just became a story of two people kinda circling each other without getting any closer or further away.

Then we got to the point where there was a lot of action ramping up and it fell really flat for me. Adam becomes extremely resigned in his fate of losing Hex, almost into a depression, but we're only told about it. His affect is very flat, he just thinks about very surface-level stuff...but it's *so* disconnected and flat that I felt nothing about him or his spiraling mental health.

The beginning was so fun. I'm really disappointed in the end.

Let’s be completely honest: when we hear the words “shadow beings” and “sleep paralysis,” our minds immediately jump to horror scenarios, right? Well, here we take a sharp turn just before that happens, because… Hex has a voice that doesn’t sound like horror at all, and what he says with that voice puts us in a completely different frame of mind.
At the beginning, I kept wanting to give Adam a little nudge—forward. Into Hex’s shadow-like arms, because… well… How incredibly fast can a shadow prince steal your heart? He had mine the moment he sorted the cups.
Anyone who knows S. Rodman will be surprised here. I was. It’s different, but still S. Rodman. It’s heartwarming and sweet, and then brutally honest in a way that makes you curse. But it’s sooooo right.
A very special reading recommendation for everyone: those who know and love S. Rodman will be very pleasantly surprised, and for the rest of you... you’ve really been missing out.

First in series (Shadowmen). Paranormal. Single POV. Heed content warnings.

The monster under his childhood bed was always real and now Adam is confronted with Hex twenty years later insisting they are bonded. Adam is a barista and Hex is a shadow prince that we find needs Adam to provide him with the power to reclaim the shadow realm throne.

An interesting start to this new series, and I enjoyed the premise. I do wish there was more world building as we only get Adam’s POV and there is a lot of information Hex doesn’t share about his life and the realm he comes from. There were some spicy times, and the ticking clock on their time together was heartbreaking. I really liked the idea of a lasting bond (although it isn’t explained thoroughly), and Hex’s caring and protectiveness was sweet and not overbearing. The few supportive secondary characters were intriguing so it leaves a lot of possibilities for future main characters for sure

The Shape of Shadows

I've been reading A Rodman for a while now and this has to be their best book yet. Certainly the most emotional.
Hex is the monster who lurked under Adam's bed as a child. All Shadow and red, glowing eyes.
Adam is a barista, loaning his uncle's flat temporarily who is woken one night by the return of the monster from under his bed.
At first he's terrified, then curious, especially as the thing introduces himself as Hex, a Shadow Prince who is bonded to Adam and feeding on him is the only reason he's survived since being turfed out.
A lot happens in this one, some of it with coffee shop friend Felix, who is a witch and fabulous. Part of it with Adam learning how to stand up for himself.
But also with a bond growing between Hex and Adam.
This one feels very much about loneliness and grief and is a very poignant ride amidst the steamy and the funny.
We get our HEA and it's a normal, everyday beautiful one.

I can already tell that this is going to be another series where I'm desperately waiting for the next book to release! It grabbed hold of me from page 1 and just wouldn't let go. I loved Hex and Adam together; their chemistry was off the charts but I also felt so much sweetness between them and the care they had for each other. There was action, lots of moments of humour and some interesting secondary characters too that I can't wait to hear more from. I wish we'd been treated to any snippets or chapters from Hex's POV to learn more about him - his world and background still remained pretty mysterious. Other than that, I really enjoyed reading this and I'm excited for book 2. I'd definitely recommend this story if you like fantasy/paranormal mm romance.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

This book had 255 pages with words. Yet the story told me next to nothing about the relationship. Instead they would just look at each other, say each others names and move on to the next chapter.
We build towards an intense battle. But we actually get no details.
I know more about the state of Felix’s eyeliner than Adam & Hex’s relationship.
I also did not enjoy the writing style at all. Major preposition overuse. The prepositional phrase “of someone” was used 48 times! Sometimes on the same page, multiple times in a chapter. “Expression of someone” was 13 of that 48. “With the” was also exhausted.
I was really excited for a monster under the bed romance. Shadows and tentacles! Those aspects are here. But needs more development.
Read this book if you want to read about cups being rearranged and tea being made.

So good

I loved this so much! This was such an interesting premise and I loved that it felt so much more lighthearted than you'd think it would be. This definitely felt much lighter than the author's more recent works and it was just as wonderful. A good amount of funny vs more serious moments but nothing compared to previous series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts are honest and my own. I LOVED Hex and I liked how he was with Adam, so sweet and protective. Felix is amazing and I can't wait for his story. I liked the progression from coworker to friend. Adams family is pretty terrible so something to keep in mind if that's a sensitivity or trigger for you. Especially if it's mothers because his is awful. This was a really solid start to a new series and I'm really looking forward for the rest.

"Imprint? You imprinted on me? Like a baby duck?"
" I am a prince of the Shadow Realm." " I have legions at my command. I have power you cannot comprehend. I am not a duckling!"

1st Person POV, Single
MM
Plot 4/5
Spice 2/5
Shadow Daddy/ Human

This was more on the lighthearted side of thing, while it did have some moments that made me wanna cry ( I am a bit emotional okay! 🤣) The overall story was so much fun! The way Hex just inserts himself into Adams life and once Adam accepts it, its game over... I laughed so much when Hex starts reorganizing everything in Adams apartment! Big ol Shadow Daddy getting bored while his human works so he entertains himself by organizing shelves! 🤣🤣

Then you have the side characters! Which Felix is gold!! I cannot wait for his book! That sassy little witch is gonna raise hell for sure and I cant wait!

This was the right book at the right time. It was perfect for my current mood.

Shadow Prince is surprisingly cozy for a book about a shadow demon feeding off lust and pleasure. I enjoyed all the little domestic moments especially. Hex has opinions on almost everything.

The characters, even the ones we see only briefly, come to vivid life. They jump off the page totally unique and distinct from each other.

The emotions in this book feel so real. I connected with Adam immediately, and was on the rollercoaster that is his life with him, holding on for dear life.

This book is super enjoyable and I’m eager for the next in the series.

I have to say, the monster under your bed trope is glorious, but it's always usually insta-love or lust. This time we met the monster when the MC was a kid and he was TERRIFIED of him - That was new for me!
Hex casually showing up years later and demanding now instead of fear, he needs pleasure to build up to his strength as someone has taken over his lands... Well, that was just a delight.

I love S Rodman but this book seemed a bit different from their normal writing style. Someone else mentioned it perfectly, with their overuse of prepositioning. It kept dragging me out of the story. That and the need for tea every time someone did anything.

I DO love their world building and I honestly cannot wait to see what is next for this series though!
