No Judgment Whatsoever: You Are A Girlkisser

Rate this book
Riley doesn't fall for straight women. Charlotte isn't a lesbian. One of them is lying.

Public speaking, pink party decorations, and a queer destination wedding in a country where she doesn’t speak the language: as it turns out, being a maid of honor isn’t Charlotte’s strong suit. The one silver lining is Riley, the other party’s maid of honor, who seems to know exactly what she’s doing.
Riley is more than willing to help Charlotte navigate the uncharted waters of bachelorette planning and sapphic jargon—especially if she gets to push her buttons in the process.

No Judgment Whatsoever is a classic coming out story, reimagined through the perspective of a later-in-life-lesbian. On this journey through compulsory heterosexuality and denial, you will discover an homage to patience, fun, intimacy, and the female body and mind. It will teach you how to confidently say no, and enthusiastically say yes.

Oh, that was so much fun! It’s a lighthearted romcom about Charlotte and Riley. Right from their first encounter, I loved their banter and the back-and-forth between them. It was just funny and really sparked the chemistry between the two of them. It’s written from Charlotte’s POV, and at first I wondered if I wouldn’t miss Riley’s perspective. But that wasn’t the case. Charlotte described Riley so vividly, and through her actions, I could easily tell what was going on in Riley’s head.

I especially loved Riley’s openness and immense patience with Charlotte. Sometimes I felt like Charlotte just wanted to misunderstand things. Especially in the last part of the book, I could have shaken her at times.

I loved this book! So funny and yet so sweet. And spicy. My ears are still red. Plus, there are two amazing best friends who get caught up in the banter. All in all, a great romcom and an incredible debut. Beautifully written with funny and charming characters.

Single 3rd Person POV. 4🌟 3🌶️. 343 pages
3.5 Spicy Scenes

This book took me by surprise. It’s a solid debut by Joni B Fox and an enjoyable little fluffy read. Coming out at any age can be scary, but discovering you’re sexuality may not be what you’ve always thought in your mid thirties has to be both confusing and terrifying and this book encapsulates that fear, combined with the joy of self discovery.

No Judgement Whatsoever follows Charlotte a 35 year old life coach as she realises that her annoyance towards her best friend’s, soon to be wife’s best friend Riley, may be about more than dislike, in fact she may like her in a more than platonic way. The book is journey of self discovery, learning to navigate this new revelation and culminating in self acceptance!

It took me a couple of chapters to get a feel for this book, the writing style was something I’m not used to and was almost informal, with a single 3rd person POV. However once I got into it properly I thoroughly enjoyed reading. For the majority of the book Charlotte comes across as pretty self absorbed and down right rude, but the further into the book we get, it’s easy to pick up on the fact that she is completely self aware and this is a defence mechanism. It was obvious from the beginning that Riley was besotted and she was a sweetheart, if a sarcastic one, but it was evident she wanted Charlotte.

If you’re looking for something fluffy, with humour, sarcasm and the warm feeling of coming to accept yourself later in life, then id recommend giving this book a read.

this was the perfect book to end lesbian visibility week with!!! (❀ˆᴗˆ)(•́ᴗ•̀✿)

charlotte hides a soft heart behind her meticulously crafted walls. riley, patient and gentle riley, is singularly devoted to shatter them. the dynamic between these two is intense and passionate, the banter unlike any other i’ve seen. but still, shaky, the emotional support ferret, steals the whole show 🫶🏻🐾

i love how the conversations feel light and fun but if you pay attention you realize how deep they actually are and how many topics approached here are important and something you don’t often get to see in media or literature. this type of raw representation is needed. and in the author’s words: “going through a process that makes you feel like you have to defend your entire being in front of the rest of the world should not be the default for any newly queer person. especially since the pain attached to that process can easily be prevented: by education, communication, and representation.

🌷4,5 ★ ⋮ if you’re looking for a fluffy read, a little drop of angst, natural humor, comfortable intimacy, lovable characters with strong personalities (and temper)… no judgment whatsoever is the right choice!!

Coming out, no matter your age, is hard, and reading this book honestly felt a little like therapy. It beautifully captures the challenge of coming to terms with yourself, while also showing what it looks like to be truly supported by friends, and your first love. It’s also stupid funny and very sexy, so that helped too. I can’t recommend it enough.

I'm writing my first review on here because this book deserves it!
I enjoy a book that immerses you, that, even days later, you can still picture the world you were in whilst reading. How true that is for this book and I am very glad to know this world will always be there to come back to!
The main characters may be opposites but it was so refreshing to be able to root for them both at the same time. They are both very likeable characters and I think that is testament to how well the author handles their development. Sensitive subjects aren't shied away from but treated with care and respect. The humour is perfectly timed and the tension that builds between the characters is palpable!

Whilst I know this is a book I will reread I do wish I could read it for the first time again!

First off I wanted to do this right because fanfiction to book is actually how I got into reading big time in the first place, and I have the biggest love for as well as I am a part of this community. Growing up there just were not stories about lesbians. We barely got Xena and that was only in subtext. I'm thrilled that books like this exist now.

No Judgement Whatsoever first off (okay second off...) is a five star for me that I did not see coming. I am a heavy angst and hurt/comfort fan. No Judgement is subtle in its angst but if you pay close attention it is there and it builds naturally. There's a lot of interiority even if at times it seems shrouded by so much comp het and internalized homophobia--I thought that was artful in the way it was approached. I really felt for Charlette and Riley through the process.

There are some head hopping issues but it doesn't really bog down the story--you get used to it as you get swept up.

To be clear I do NOT understand Charlette personally and at times I wanted to shake her. Probably due to me identifying and feeling more protective of Riley. It was clear to everyone that Charlette is just choosing to keep herself locked in the closet and it's so frustrating to witness when everyone around her "wouldn't think less of her."

As a lesbian that's too neurodivergent for their own good, it's hard for me to conceptualize not knowing you like women. But that is what Joni does so beautifully--she took an experience I didn't understand and made me take a trip through new waves of empathy (hey that's my calling card! lol). I felt like I learned along with Charlie (can I call her Charlie?) what her experience was like, and I feel changed a bit for it.

I felt so much for Riley and probably because I identified more with her. Even the lightly nonbinary touch to her. I've dated closeted women and it can be quite traumatizing at times. The sneaking around, the being hidden is so frustrating and invalidating. At this point in life Riley has the confidence to continue to pursue Charlette without it affecting her self esteem and let Charlie go at her pace--Riley is a SAINT.

It's very clear all along that Riley just wants to love Charlette and that Charlette wants to be loved so badly in return but is scared of how that will change everything. I think this is a beautiful love story that explores very different experiences in the lesbian community and I loved the duality.

If it wasn't clear from my rambling yet--I LOVED IT! Enthusiastic consent from me it's a YES!

Pick it up if you haven't yet or I will make sure secret agent Shakes eats your phone charger.

I can't wait to read the next book by this author! I'm making room on my shelf.

i really enjoyed this book. the characters, plot, message. it was touching, it was relatable, it was funny. i loved getting to see these two very different characters experience their queerness in such different ways and still meet in the middle. charlotte’s hesitation and fear was so well-developed, and riley’s patience and support really gave her the space she needed to learn about herself and come to terms with everything.

also, their chemistry was actually insane i am obsessed with these two! the banter, the softness, the teasing. they are both so ridiculously loveable! almost as loveable as a certain ferret…

speaking of shaky, his alliance with riley was everything to me. it was so entertaining. and in general, i absolutely adore the humour in this book. it was so funny and felt so real – i had such a fun time reading this!

this was truly such a beautiful love story, but also such a beautiful story of self-acceptance and growth. i loved it and definitely recommend if you love sapphic romances!

In an act of vulnerability on Goodreads, I must admit that I originally read this story when it was being released chapter by chapter as a fanfiction years back. It was one of the first fanfics I ever read and I adored it. It was incredibly fun to revisit with this new context, and I feel oddly proud of the author for leaning into their talent and elevating this piece to a fantastic new sapphic novel. Cool to say, "I was there at the beginning," and I can't wait to read the next Joni B. Fox book.

HOLY PEAK…
Girl kisser alarm!!! Charlie is such a chud and just like me frfr…
Cavity inducing sweetness, exploration of the lesbian space, and consent???? GEM ALARM
Only criticism is that it kinda defines womanhood around vagina and and that’s a bit trans exclusionary but like it’s a short book and I get it, I don’t think it was done for the point of transphobia but I do think it’s important to mention

Absolutely amazing. I couldn't put it down.
Even though some of Charlotte's behaviors were frustrating at times, the growth of the characters, and the development of their story kept me glued and entertained. Perfect mix of humor, drama, and heartfelt moments.

So, so happy this was turned into a book. The new scenes were fantastic additions to the story. Such a beautiful exploration of a later-in-life lesbian’s discovery of herself and how love can find you in unexpected places.

Vibe 5🌟

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. To be honest this shouldn't be a 5-star book for me, it was not perfect, I even cringed a few times and I couldn't stand Charlotte in the beginngin. But the enjoyment and cute feelings it gave me made it 5 stars, no question.

Once Charlotte pulled her head out of her ass, I truly enjoyed their dynamic. The story was sweet, sexy, and made me laugh. Quick question, though: Am I the only one who's disappointed that Riley's secret kinks were never discussed? She mentioned them and then left me hanging... rude.

I always have a special appreciation for a solid character driven story, and this one did not disappoint! Especially when the main character is somewhat of an antihero :p

It started ok, got good and then turned a little childish. It was still fun banter and felt like it had potential to be better.

I've completey fallen in love with this book its characters. Through two girls with very different personalities and life experiences, this story beautifully explores falling in love while discovering who you truly are—especially when said realization comes later in life than you'd expect.

I really wish I’d had a book like this when I was figuring out my own identity. It’s heartfelt, funn and deeply validating.

Truly a story that stays with you long after finishing it
