One flicker of a flame ripped my life apart. For two years now my body has defied my will to live and although the shell of my existence still roams this ungodly world -- my heart died along with my wife and son. Their blood is on my hands and living my meaningless life carefree is the ultimate punishment of my self-conviction.
Never lettin’ friends get too close to identify my pain, I suffer in the confines of my own heart, quietly. All they see is the mask -- the humbled, empathetic man. Not the guilt stricken tortured soul I truly am.
Until her.
Our worlds collided like vehement waves of the perfect storm thrashing through the sea. Neither of us expected it, but both of us need to be saved from our own pain and destruction.
But the ship sailed too fast.
Fear and confusion consume me and I make the mistake of leaving her lost at sea just when she needs me the most, when her greatest predator would strike.
Strugglin’ to survive through the wreckage my heart has been battered with, I have to battle my feelings and decide if I’m prepared to fight the darkest pits of hell to save her and Mend the Seams of her fragile heart or let her go completely. After all, she ain't even mine to claim.
Silla Webb is a Kentucky native, raised in the heart of the Eastern Kentucky coal fields. A coal truck driver's daughter, and a railroader's wife, the coal fields own a special place in her heart. She is a work at home, Super Momma to three rowdy boys, who keep her on her feet from daylight to sunset. As a pass time from her everyday life, Silla started a blog-Momma's Secret Book Obsession, for reviewing romance novels. From there, she realized that not only did she have a natural love for reading and reviewing, but she found that lost love of writing that she once had as a young girl. When she isn't conquering the world as a wife, momma and Super Woman, Silla loves to lay on the front porch swing and read while sipping sweet tea, just passin' the day away.
The story picks up where book two ended with Savannah trying to put her life back together after the horrendous actions of her husband Josh.Luke is there for her and this book is really all about their relationship. We also get to find out more of Luke's troubled past.Their relationship develops slowly from friends to lovers... Even though Josh is in Prison he does feature in this book and there is quite a twist at the end that will definitely have me looking forward to the next book...
Now must mention Luke...I have loved him in the other two books and I LOVED him even more here... Coming from England I have quite a fascination for different American accents but oh my I think the Southern drawl is SO SEXY,especially coming from a man...
"See,you're so weak you're knees 'bout gave out on ya!"
"So you admit I'm affectin' ya sweetheart?"
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SERIES IF YOU LIKE SEXY,SOUTHERN TALKING GENTLEMEN,GREAT FEMALE CHARACTERS,A BIT OF ANGST,A REALLY GOOD PLOT AND PLENTY OF STEAM!!!
I AM TOTALLY OUT OF WORDS! I LOVED IT! I will try my best to give my review a spoiler free. Mend the Seams is my favorite among the Buried Secrets Series. Silla Webb's writing has evolved so much that you will find yourself deeply invested on her story and characters. It is quite hard for me to give a review,to think of something I want to say about this book as in, I am totally lost for words. I am also afraid that I might sound hopeless because no matter what other readers think about the villain of this story I always see the goodness in him (shocking right?! Delusional?! Maybe, but all I know is I libe him since book 1) Luke and Savannah's story is a story of lobe, hope and second chances. We can learn a lot from their love story and it will give us hope. Josh, my heart breaks for this guy for what he'd been through, what he become after and the aftermath result. I see a lost and shattered soul in him and there are part of this book thay will show his vulnerability and thay despite of beinga an a**hole as he is, he is still a good father to his kids. The bonus scene!! (Omg!! #DrewIsMine #IwillGetLowandDirtywithDrew) I am so thrilled to read this. No matter how eff up he is, no matter how many readers hate him,HE IS STILL MY DREW. I can see where he is coming from and I am trying to understand his pain.. I CAN'T HARDLY WAIT TO READ HIS STORY... (OUR STORY..)
This is the third book in this fantastic series. I highly recommend you start reading book one- you won't regret it. I absolutely loved book one and in my opinion this author just keeps getting better.
I was so looking forward to Luke's story and the author didn't disappoint me. Luke and Savannahs story is fantastic. Their story is like an emotional rollercoaster. The ups & downs, twists & turns had me gripped. I can't recommend this author highly enough. Loved it.
Because it’s all about that sass about that sass---that Romantic Country Sass ;)
Webb’s has created a novel that’s heartwrenching, down and dirty, and romantic mixed in that country sass. She’s made her characters truly deep and what I call 3 dimensional. I loved every second of it, and the villians—gave me freaking chills! I loved reading every page.
Mend the Seams (Buried Secrets #3) By: Silla Webb 5/5 stars
This book picks up just about where the second book, Lies Beneath the Surface, ended. Towards the end of that book, Carly and her sister Savannah were attacked by Savannah’s husband Josh after he’d been released on bail after being arrested & Savannah was packing up in order to leave him. They were saved by Luke & Josh was arrested again…possibly being held for good this time. I do like that the author gave us a few chapters from Josh’s POV where we were able to get into his head and learn the reasons of why and how he became who he was and Drew Varney’s role in it all. That in no way excuses his abusive nature towards his wife, but it does let us see how things are so twisted to him. It’s haunting.
I’ve wanted Luke to get an HEA after we learned his story in book 1, when he confided to Carly Jo. The brutal agony of listening to his wife & son burning alive in a house fire is horrible for a man to hear, but to hear it while being physically restrained because of the hopelessness & danger of the situation to a trained firefighter is just pure hell. The guilt he feels hasn’t allowed him to fully move on, even though he has done his best to move forward with his life. Luke has always been blessed/cursed with the gift of feeling for other people when they are in pain. He is both sympathetic and empathetic to other people’s plight. He was able to sense Savannah’s pain within the first few times he met her.
As Savannah must learn to stand on her own two feet and lean on those who care about her and fight her memories and nightmares, Luke must face his head on and allow forgiveness for himself. Luke is always the hero and is there to help Savannah along the way and to teach her self-independence, while being there for her and her children.
Drew is still around and causing mayhem and terrorizing his half-sisters. He is even more depraved than I previously realized. It is crazy the depths that some people go to in order to take what they believe is owed to them or is rightfully theirs. Either way, the moral of his story is that parents shouldn’t ever not claim a child and keep the child out of their everyday lives because that only causes resentment which deepens & hardens further. Drew is getting a book, but I don’t know when it will be published. My only hope is that the author will keep him true to character and that he will get his comeuppance and even then, I don’t know if he’ll deserve an HEA.
I have loved Luke from the start. He is delicious, passionate and strong even when he didn't think he was. He has gone through and still is going through so much in his life. From abuse to guilt and grief but he still has the strength to help others when they need him, especially the women in his life, no matter how long he has known them.
When he first met Savannah, he knew she was hurting and hiding what was going on in her life. He saw through the veil she was trying to hide behind. And now that she has been through hell, he is there even more for her. He wants to protect her and help her through the turmoil of her recent past. It's only been a few months since everything in her world was turned upside down and he has been watching over her ever since.
Savannah likes having Luke around, she feels safe with him but she is not ready to just move on, she is still legally married and needs to have closure before she can even think about going forward with Luke, if he even wants her. She is not really even sure. He could just be there to protect her and nothing more. Luke also needs to work through his past before he can move forward. He still feels the guilt about his family but he wants to be happy and he can't do that yet.
I love Luke and Savannah. They don't jump into something they are not ready for and are helping one another mend. They are both confused about their relationship but what they do know is they make each other stronger and felt safe even with the danger surrounding them.
It was a surprise to see that Josh got his own POV and that was actually nice to see how his mind was working. It will be interesting to see how the next book goes since its Drew's story and he is even a bigger ass then Josh but I know Silla will do an amazing job with it.
This was a great addition to the series and was so happy that it was Luke and Savannah's story, they deserve happiness.
Quotes:
I really tried to stay away, but there’s something about Savannah and I have a constant draw to her. A strong desire to keep her safe, shield her, protect her.
I want to tell her that I’ll be her strength until she finds her own, but I won’t make promises I can’t keep.
We have a beautifully flawed relationship but I want more.
“Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools and believed by idiots. I do believe I’d find myself a new pack of friends if I were you gals. Last I checked, I left high school in 2005, so this idol gossip y’all are dealin’ in is highly unbecoming of you.”
“Damn my conscience has a sharp tongue, and sadly it’s usually right.”
“He looks at you as if you stole the breath from his lungs, as if you’re the only person in his sight.”
My Review:
This volume contained more suspense and had a considerably thicker air of melancholy and regret than the first two, but given the two protagonists and their combined histories of abuse and sorrow, it was to be expected. Mend the Seams was full of anguish, melodrama, and heart squeezing despair. Ms. Webb has an evil knack for maintaining the tension and despondency, while turning me inside out, even when I don’t want to go there. I like most of Sella Webb’s characters, but I completely adore Luke, and want a Happy Ever After for him more than any other character in the series. While I am no fan of angst, I am hopelessly addicted to this series and must know what happens to these larger than life personalities. Although I am desperately hoping the next volume is significantly lighter in tone, and with a return of the clever wit, sass, and steam that I have come to expect from the talented Ms. Webb.
I a guess for me ... book #3 has been the most depressing of the series. So much sadness. Prison, fires, re-living past sad moments ... tissues please???!! I think Josh is more evil than Drew, what a jerk, so cruel and to think that folks like him are allowed to have kids ... what kind of a roll model is that? (i know it is just a book, but there are sadly folks out there in the real world that act very similar to this. so so sad.) ... just humble opinion though. He is a real meanie. Luke (aka Superman) always comes to the recuse that is the REAL positive of this book. (Ok, if this a spoiler than look away, just skip this part if you please. SMILES!! ... but he sleeps with both sisters, is that kind of odd to you? that was never addressed at all? ) I know LOVE is love but still, weird moment there. I will be reading book #4 again ... 'cause that is where I started with this series to beginning with ... reading it a bit backwards ... but it is an all around good series ... if you are a fan of small town living, coal miners, the state of Kentucky. Oh I almost forget ... for the 1st time in this series you don't get enough Kylee Jo ... she is my 2nd favorite character after LUKE!! ( ;
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Honestly I hate how much I flove you right now Silla. True story. My husband not so much. 4 hours and the only sign of life from our bedroom came when he poked me with a stick from a distance to check I was still breathing and was met with the 'don't interrupt me when I'm reading' grunt.
This installment rocked my book world and is another awesome addition to the Buried Secrets series. My love for Luke grew in this story and my need to know more about evil Drew Varney is also taking over. I have to say my disdain for Colton also increased. Although to be fair I'm pretty sure that there isn't an emotion that goes unconnected with throughout this story, and all in the series.
I won't say too much through fear of giving anything away. This installment focuses on Luke and Savannah and we get to see them both go on an amazing journey of heartbreak, forgiveness, strength and growth.
I love the multiple POV and timelines. It's something I feel is hard to do effectively and seamlessly without causing confusion but Silla is awesome at it. This series is by far one of my fave and I eagerly anticipate the next release.
Loved this story, Loved this series. This is book 3, Savannah and Luke's story. We get to know them both very well as secondary characters in books 1 and 2, Carly and Colton's story. Savannah and Luke both have very heartbreaking pasts and are on a slow journey to finding a well deserved second chance at love. There was so much to this story that really touched me and broke my heart. I thought it was beautifully done. I love Silla's writing she has a way of making you love the characters and I loved the different POV's even ones you don't want to like but still root for. Speaking of second chances I look forward to the next which is Drew's book. Very curious to see where that one goes. Maybe even more than that I really, really, really hope we get something more on Josh. His own book or at least a novella. I know he has it in him and it would be nice for B&B. I'm a sucker for the underdog and I love a great turnaround and second chances. Great read I highly recommend this series. Love It!
Trying my hardest to keep this one spoiler free, but I swear this series just keeps getting better and better. I have been eagerly anticipating Savannah and Luke’s story for months and my girl, Silla definitely did not let me down. Raw, passionate, full of romantic angst, I think this is my favorite book in the series so far. I love Luke’s dirty talking drawl and Savannah’s journey of rediscovering her life without Josh was gutsy, heart wrenching and executed flawlessly. I was really surprised to see Josh’s points of view in the book, but those chapters just pulled the story together perfectly put the cherry on top for me. That ending along with Drew’s bonus chapter just left me enthusiastically waiting to find out what direction this story is headed.
I've really loved this series and this book was not any different! It's well written with amazing characters who fight for what they want, and never stop believing!
This book left me sort of uninterested! This is the story of Savannah and Luke and where he helps her to break free from her abusive marriage. In the background is his own guilt on the deaths of his wife and child 2 years ago. Carly Jo knows all about this but no one else does. Don't get me wrong I loved reading that Luke may just get his own HEA.............
Drew is getting worse with his bullying tactics and he is getting increasingly desperate to get his hands on what he sees is his birth right.
Josh who seemed to be one person at the end of book 2 who regretted what he had done to his wife has now turned into this hateful arrogant ar$e who is so self opinionated I want to smack him!
The books ends with nothing resolved, I can honestly say I am hugely disappointed where the author left this.
Then I discover this trilogy (3 books) actually has a 4th book....which should have been available in August 2015 - but I cannot find it anywhere!
So until I get my sticky paws on book 4 where hopefully Ms Webb really does tie up all those pesky lose ends (like we know Colton changed all the locks and updated the alarm system so how did Drew get past it all to help himself to drinkies in the study he feels is his and a snack in the kitchen before reminiscing about a science project at school?? Also a women who has been abused and threatened does not leave the home she shares with her children undefended if those methods of defence are clearly available!!)
Once again, I'm sucked into the story and consumed by what the characters are going through. This story is so different from the first two. I've loved Luke from book one, and I'm so happy to finally have his story. His heart is shattered - blackened from the fire. He has his own demons to work past, but is still the savior and protector that Savannah needs. This poor girl, she's had a horrible life. It takes her time, but she starts to work through her trauma and find her way to herself, and to her happiness. They both have to figure out who they are, how they feel, how to cope and move on. It's a slow, slow, slow burn story. The focus of this story is their healing. Moving on from the pain they've both suffered, and learning how to survive and love again. And sure, I wanted them to hurry and get to 'those' scenes, but I appreciate the fact that they didn't rush it. I actually love that they worked on the betterment of themselves before falling into something that could possibly hurt them in a different way.
I was so excited for Savannah and Luke’s story. These two are perfect for each other, now all she needs to do is get her husband to sign the divorce papers so she can move on, but will Drew have other plans for his sister? He’s evil and who knows what he’s capable of. Now for Luke, well he needs to come to grips with his guilt and understand he wasn’t at fault for his wife and sons death. He’s grappling with feelings for Savannah and guilt for his family and needs to get himself straight before jumping into something Savannah. Will Josh let her and the kids go to live their lives or will he continue to make her miserable? Everyone needs to keep looking over their shoulders, Drew is coming for vengeance. Great read!!
This book ~ I was eagerly waiting for Luke to get his happy ending, but it was not an easy one. This one tugged hard at the heart-strings while making me frustrated. There was a lot going on in this little book. We have Savannah dealing with putting her self back together, starting new with her kids. We have Luke working through is guilt and loss, all while he plays the superhero he truly is to Savannah and her kids. Then we have Josh fighting to keep Savannah under his control from behind bars, while we get a glimpse into his past and how Drew got control over him. Of course Drew hasn't gone away and is still wreaking havoc. Thank goodness for Colton and Carly Jo!
Luke's empathy runs deep with everyone, but he's especially drawn to Savannah. He's the only one that sees the true pain she went through and was eventually able to help get her free. Now his own pain is resurfacing, and he's got to return to where it happened, to try and get a handle on it. He's determined not to drag her down with his demons. While he's gone, Savannah's past rises again and she's struggling to survive without him. He returns still hurting but she's not going to let things move on until he starts to heal as well. This third story in this series plucked at my heart strings, reading about Luke's past from child to adult. I found it hard to put down.
In MEND THE SEAMS we learn more about Luke’s past and get up close and personal to what drives the demons in his and Savannah’s lives. Theirs is a heartwrenching tale with more angst and depression than you’d think any two people should carry. It’s a rollercoaster of emotional drama that takes you through a mixture of disheartening, anxious, and tormented moments until we finally witness Luke’s and Savannah’s HEA. Or is it? We still have questions about what could come next because I don’t believe we’ve seen the end of the evil that is Drew Varney.
The third book in the Buried Secrets Series is about Savannah and Luke. Mend the Seams is about picking up the pieces, forgiveness, moving forward, and finding true love. In the words of the handsome Luke......."Our world's collided like vehement waves of the perfect storm thrashing through the sea. Neither of us expected it, but both of us needed to be saved from our pain and destruction." An inspirational read.
I loved seeing The story continue! It was the outcome I was hoping for and so much more. I’m let hoping another book will be written so we can understand the life of Drew. Something besides Big John happened to him to get him to this point. It would be interesting to see what. Anyway, this was another great book!
This is the third book in this fantastic series. You will want to start reading this series with book one so you understand what has lead these characters to this point in the series.. I absolutely loved book one, Ms Webb just keeps getting better with each book. You will want to have kleenex handy with this book. I cried more with this book that I did the last one. Some of the other Authors I read that know me know that if I cried, it touched my heart and that means it is a great book. I spent most of this book wanting to hug Luke and Savannah. These to broken people walk through fire to find each other, they just need to let themselves find love again and to be happy. To understand this statement you will have to read the book. Luke is Superman!!! Once again Ms Webb had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I Highly Recommend this book and series.
I love Luke ..Luke is so sweet, kind and sexy. I really do hope the author writes more of this series. Please don't let it be the end. People you must read this series
5 STARS! Absolutely love this book! The story starts where book 2 left off. Savannah is working on getting her life back where she wants it to be. I absolutely love Luke. In this book you learn a little more about Luke's past. I'm looking so forward to the next book in this series!
THIS SERIES IS AMAZING AND THIS PART BROUGHT IT BEYOND ANYTHING I EVER IMAGINED !!
Honestly I fell in love with this author and her writing very early on in book 1. Carly Jo and Colton's story was amazing and has carried on throughout the first two books just completely taking over my life to the point that putting my Ipod down hurts my head !! I devour these books and Mend was no different. I started in the afternoon and ended in the early morning hours of the next day !!
Luke and Savannah's stories started in the previous books and you knew this would be a powerful and difficult read. It was heartbreaking to see what Savannah had been suffering all along and the end result was tragic. Luke's past is something only Carly Jo knows about. Their friendship is very unique and yes at one point it was almost the cause of Carly and Colton losing each other. Luke struggles in this story so much with his feelings for Savannah and his past. It is heartbreaking yet healing. This is the journey of healing for Luke and Savannah. It is not easy and there are some major hurdles and horrific events that surround them. Multiple POV's , some adding a darker feel to this part of the series and also setting us up for what comes next. We may get an HEA at the end of this series when it comes to new beginnings but you can be sure that someone has yet to have their last word. CHECK OUT the new cover and synop for Drew's book , WOW going to be a crazy read !!
It was a hard thing to swallow but I did fall for Luke despite his part in Carly and Colton's issues. I couldn't help it. He is a genuinely amazing man and after learning of his past you can't help but want to hold him. He is downright sexy and pretty much the stuff dreams are made of !! He has been protecting Savannah and her kids since he rescued her from the he** on earth she suffered at the hands of Josh. Savannah is confused by Luke and although she cherishes him being there she thinks she wants space from his attempts at keeping them safe. She pushes him away and between her actions and his mix of feelings he ends up needing to get away. Luke and Sav may have different stories but they feel the same. Despair and guilt and worry consume them. Both suffering from panic attacks and both needing to move on but not knowing how to begin. Savannah is fighting the demons of her past with Josh , the chaos he left their family in and the situations with the evil Drew that have left them wide open for his torture. With a little push from Carly Jo and Colton , Luke and Sav hope on the road to recovery together and their healing is a beautiful thing. Again it is a long road but the end result was amazing. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. I was on the edge of my seat panicked at times and at other times found myself letting out a breath of relief although mostly short lived !! Take this journey it is well worth it !!
