Bus Stop Meet Cute

Rate this book
Soft smiles and long glances. Private moments across a public street.
Sian meets Asha every morning at the bus stop. They've barely exchanged more than a few words, but between shared disasters, dreadful Glasgow weather, and just a bit too much eye contact, their interactions have become the highlight of Sian's day.
Falling for someone isn't simple when your brain loves to overthink. Living with OCD means every smile, every laugh, every flirtatious word turns into something to analyse from seventeen different angles. But Asha is magnetic - charming, bold, and impossible to ignore. And for once, Sian is determined not to let fear drive the bus.
A queer meet-cute romcom about anxiety, public transport, and the terrifying, wonderful courage it takes to let yourself be seen.

About the author

Fox Hamilton

Fox Hamilton (they/them) is a Cornish genderqueer butch author, reader, and multi-disciplinary artist based in Scotland.
They create sapphic stories that celebrate the vast, magical diversity of the community, writing the kinds of books they desperately wished they could have read growing up at a time when queer and neurodivergent representation was painfully sparse.
A lifelong artist, Fox works across a wide range of mediums, from digital illustration to painting to embroidery and other fibre arts. Their creative practice, both written and visual, returns again and again to themes of tiny victories, queer joy, neurodivergent interiority, and small, diverse truths that make ordinary life feel enchanted.
They are autistic, dyslexic, hard of hearing, physically disabled, and live with OCD, and they often draw on these lived experiences to shape the emotional landscapes of their characters.
Fox is passionate about writing neurodivergent and disabled protagonists who exist fully.
Messy, tender, complicated, and loved.
When they're not writing, Fox can usually be found devouring books for hours, tending virtual worlds and crops in simulation games, experimenting with learning another new skill, or joyfully hoarding new hobbies and special interests. They also rewatch Buffy the Vampire Slayer at least twice a year.
Fox lives happily in the west of Scotland with their stunning wife, fantastic daughter, and two troublesome cats.

I enjoyed this sweet story with it's slow-burn pining and introspection. The main character Sian was easy to identify with, particularly buying all the ice cream varieties in the shop because they couldn't make a decision and then forgetting what they went in for! A good balance of romantic whimsy contrasting with the realities and difficulties of life. Looking forward to more offerings from Fox in future!

Sapphic yearning with social awkwardness and thought spirals? Turning into a bit of a mess because the pretty woman looks at you a little too long? My younger self relates so hard to many of these parts!
I loved the steady, natural progression of Asian and Asha’s interactions, and how genuinely sweet they were. Sian feeling comfortable in the awkwardness and the rest of the world dropping away during their bus stop meet ups was lovely to read.
I particularly enjoyed how OCD and its many nuances are presented and navigated through this book. A particular shout out to Sian’s friend group too being there for them even when Sian kept saying they were okay. Also, all the love for agender and trans representation!

Plot Summary:
Sian is a sucker for routine, and apparently beautiful women at bus stops the opposite side of the road. Through brief, across the road encounters, Asha becomes a big part of Sian’s day. They are determined to be brave and not let this newfound comfort and possibility slip by. Throw in humour, busses, friend group chat banter, and a pigeon with no concept of personal space, and you have this book!

Thing I loved:
- Is this flirting?
- Thought spirals
- Gay panic
- Charming awkwardness
- The friends
- Agender & trans rep
- OCD rep
- Glaswegian Scots translations
- The humour
- The pigeons
- Split into 4 weeks

Overall, a very short and sweet, funny and relatable romance packed with sapphic yearning, social awkwardness, OCD rep, and bonding through public transport.

Thank you to author Fox Hamilton for the eARC in exchange for honest review.

A self-reflective novella about a they/them butch lesbian going through the stages of gay panic while navigating mental illness.

I loved the line, "They felt both too much and not enough at once. That feeling was a classic."

This story is more about Sian and their OCD than the romance, which doesn't pick up until the very end. It is a moving story nonetheless with strong friendships and self reflection and you know what? It delivers on the title. There is absolutely a bus stop meet cute. I devoured it in two sittings and reccomend to anyone wanting a wholesome palate cleanser between romance novels.

All opinions are my own. Thank you Fox Hamilton for the ARC!

Hi everyone who has found themselves on this page! This is my debut work and it’s been a long and terrifying journey to get here, so I would like to personally thank you for taking a chance and checking out this book.

Sian and Asha are reflections of me, my wife, and my loved ones. I can only hope that some of you feel seen by this book too.
