Veilbreaker is a gripping YA paranormal romance filled with forbidden bonds, slow-burn tension, angel mythology, and impossible choices. Perfect for readers who crave emotional stakes and fans of Hush Hush.
Hopeless romantic, fantasy dreamer, and debut author of morally complex angels & the humans who love them. Hello, I’m Becca! I’ve been a book lover for as long as I can remember. I have always chased stories full of magic, romance, and adventure. I write YA paranormal romance with a healthy dose of forbidden love, fallen angels, and characters who wrestle with impossible choices (because perfect heroes are just a little too easy, don’t you think?). I plan to branch out in the future to adult romantasy as well.
My debut novel, Guardian, is my love letter to the books and stories that have swept me away. Stories full of danger, destiny, and a romance that dares to break the rules. Book two in the series, Veilbreaker comes out this May 1st!
When I’m not writing or reading, you’ll usually find me with coffee in hand, dreaming up new worlds, or plotting ways to make life just a little more complicated for my characters.
Let’s connect—I’d love to hear about the books and stories you’re passionate about!

Veilbreaker is the 2nd book in the Seraphic Hearts series by Becca Sullivan. This is a gripping YA paranormal romance filled with forbidden bonds, slow-burn tension, angel mythology, and impossible choices. Perfect for readers who crave emotional stakes and fans of Hush Hush.
I have been waiting for Veilbreaker since the moment that I finished “Guardian”. One of the great things about this series is that even though it is marketed as a Young Adult/New Adult series, this is actually a series that anyone of any age can enjoy.
Upon starting this book, one of the things that I liked that Becca did was she gave us a Welcome to the Celestial Realm. In that welcome we got some extra information on the various Celestial and Demonic entities. You get a glossary on the Celestial beings like: Guardians, Fallen, Nephilim, Archnephilim, Demon, Watcher, Archangel, Cambion, Throne, Ossaris, Principalities, and Veilbreaker.
I found this glossary helpful as some of the Celestial terms were ones that I had never heard of before, so being able to read this glossary and learn a little bit about these beings and what they were helped me in reading this book.
Now, lets dive into the book itself as this is one action packed book.
Becca didn’t waste anytime in jumping straight into the action, she picked up Veilbreaker right where “Guardian” left off. I have to say that Becca’s writing is just powerfully masterful. I honestly think her writing has gotten better from “Guardian”. This book is vivid and so emotionally charged.
Even though this book is primarily set in our own world, there is still world-building that was needed in terms of the magic, celestial politics, and all the different secrets that have been knitted into the over all story and into each different chapter. We get a lot of foreshadowing, and even though it is subtle, it’s also so very powerful.
Rhiannon is still the same fierce, fiery, intelligent, stronger than she realizes FMC that we came to love and adore in “Guardian”. Rhiannon’s internal fight with her feelings between Kiran, her Guardian Angel and Protector who became a Fallen Angel when he saved Justin’s life in “Guardian”, and Justin, Kiran’s twin brother, a Nephilim, and the man who Rhiannon knows with out a doubt knows her heart and tempts her very soul. Rhiannon’s internal struggle between the two brother who couldn’t be more different is so compelling and at the same time completely heartbreaking. And now, Rhiannon has her own magical powers that she’s trying to learn about and learn to control adds this added dimension to her character that just makes her that much more compelling.
Justin, Kiran’s twin brother, born a Nephilim who didn’t know what he truly was until the end of “Guardian”, he’s had a chip on his shoulder with both Kiran and Rhiannon for not telling him the truth of what he was. At the same time though he’s deeply loyal to his friends, his chosen family, those he loves the most, and he’s driven by the push of love and duty and what he believes is the right thing to do. In his final act of protection, he fulfills a promise that he made to Kiran knowing without a doubt that it would decimate Rhiannon and shatter her heart. In this moment his actions are both tragic and really very beautiful and show that he does have some devotion and love for his brother. (Or maybe it’s just all for Rhiannon).
Kiran, is Rhiannon’s Guardian Angel, he’s also Justin’s twin brother. He fell from God’s grace and became a Fallen Angel at the end of “Guardian” when he saved Justin’s life. Through “Guardian” and “Veilbreaker” we’ve watched him and Rhiannon fall in love and we’ve heard the beauty of their soul song. Now we find at the end of “Veilbreaker” he makes the ultimate sacrifice in order to save Rhiannon. I have to say that this completely shattered my heart and I was in tears at this point.
I loved getting to meet the new and interesting secondary characters, and I loved the way each one of them added something unique and interesting to the story, and not a single secondary character that fades into the background. We find that in this book we get the inclusion of Ossaris, Fallen Angels, Demons, and even the Archangels and all together they create this grand celestial feeling that explores the age-old balance between good and evil, light and darkness.
I was not ready for the ending; the ending ripped me apart and just shattered my heart into a million pieces. And Becca, she managed to capture Rhiannon’s heart shattering pain so perfectly and so vividly that it’s still lingering on my mind even now, days after I’ve read the final page.
Veilbreaker is one of those true books that is an emotional rollercoaster that’s filled with action, secrets, family secrets, hidden identities, and a true love that defies the fates. Becca has truly outdone herself in delivering this 2nd installment in a story that’s as electrifying and thrilling as it is cataclysmic and traumatic (in only the best ways possible).
The revelations the Becca revealed in this installment were so much bigger and life changing then I could have ever imagined. They were shocking and mind-blowing and they were revelations that I never could have anticipated.
You also realize in reading Veilbreaker that there’s a much bigger game being played then you could have ever imagined. “Guardian” never even hinted at the overall larger game that’s being played and there are unexpected players in this game.
It was also really enjoyable to watch Rhiannon’s friendship’s that had started in “Guardian” continue to grow and get stronger in this book. I loved watching those friendships start in “Guardian” and continue to grow and get stronger in “Veilbreaker” and I really hope to see this continue in the rest of the series.
Mia, she is absolutely one of my favorite characters in this series next to Rhiannon. She is a vibe in and unto herself. She is absolutely fantastic and I can’t get enough of her character and I have loved watching her growth and I can’t wait to see that continue to the next book and the rest of the series and I can’t wait to watch her own witch powers continue to grow and I can’t wait to see her stand with Rhiannon and watch her kick some butt.
If you enjoy a stunning well written YA/New Adult paranormal contemporary romance that’s filled with forbidden bonds, a slow-burning tension, angel mythology, fallen angels, demons, and impossible choices then “Veilbreaker” is the perfect book for you to pick up next. This is a great book for readers from YA/New Adult readers to adults of all ages. It’s perfect for fans of Hush Hush and those who are craving emotional stakes. I highly recommend this book. You do need to read this series in order, you CAN NOT skip a book or you’ll be lost and not understand fully what’s happening.
A few of my favorite quotes are:
“Get in, loser, we’re going shopping” -Mia
“What is this? Enya?”
“You are my soul mate. In every definition of the word.”
The shackles between us tightened in their embrace; molten silver heated by our mingling souls. Some distant part of me broke with sorrow for Justin.
“Rhi, my Ahavah” I said. “What do you want?” My voice was just a whisper and I wasn’t sure if she knew what I was asking.
"I can’t leave her. It would not only break me, but it would destroy her as well.”
“I fell from the choir, wings turned to coal Dragged down by a whisper, burned into soul” “One eye to the stars, one knee in the dust Power’s a poison—they told me I must Hold it like fire, carve it in bone Now I stand in the ruins, throneless and alone” “Heaven closed its gates, Hell won't take the blame Now I burn with both—And I wear their flame I speak and they tremble, they kneel or they run But I forgot what it means to be anyone Grace is gone, and guilt’s my flame “Still I rise—Still I rise—“
“It’s all Ossaris that powerful beings will seek, but you,” he said, gesturing to her, “are the Veilbreaker. The Seventh Flame. You will learn to bind or banish celestial beings as well as dark ones. Be they the highest Archangel or the lowest demon.”
"The Veil that separates immortal worlds from mortal worlds is thinnest for you." Ophaniel’s gaze was steady, unblinking. "The Seventh Flame carries great risk. Rhiannon, you are a Veilbreaker — the last in a long cycle. Archangels, demons, Watchers. They will all want you for your power."
“Trust is never given freely. But you will find there are some who prove true.” He puffed his pipe, watching the smoke curl like a serpent into the sky. “Now, I must get back to my poker game. Things will be clearer in time.”
“I’d fall from Heaven a thousand times if it always led me here,” he murmured against my skin.
Veilbreaker wastes no time diving back into the action, picking up right where book one left off. The author’s writing is nothing short of masterful. The writing is vivid, and emotionally charged. The worldbuilding is beautifully and immersive, with layers of magic, celestial politics, and secrets woven through every chapter. The foreshadowing is subtle yet powerful. Rhi remains the fierce, fiery heroine we’ve come to adore. Her internal struggle between Kiran, her guardian and protector and Justin, the man who knows her heart and tempts her soul is both compelling and heartbreaking. Her growing magical power adds another dimension to her character. Justin is deeply loyal, and he’s driven by love and duty. His final act of protection, fulfilling a promise to Kiran despite knowing it would devastate Rhi, is both tragic and beautiful. The side characters are anything but and every character adds to the story rather than fading into the background. The inclusion of Ossaris, fallen angels, demons, and Archangels creates a grand celestial vibe that explores the balance between good and evil. The ending is nothing short of heartbreaking. The author captures Rhi’s pain so vividly that it lingers long after the final page. This novel is an emotional rollercoaster filled with action, secrets, and love that defies fate. The author has truly outdone herself, delivering a story that’s as breathtaking as it is devastating(in the best way). Highly recommend.
I received an ARC of this book; all opinions are my own.
This story begins immediately after the events of Book 1, and pulls us in multiple directions. Our FMC, Rhiannon, is still reeling from the aftermath… discovering her place and finding her path… all while caught in a complicated love triangle. Meanwhile, MMCs Kiran and Justin, are grappling, one with the consequences of his actions and the other dealing with newly discovered revelations, both in which, must walk a new path of life in.
This book delivers so much story, offering closure in some moments while completely ripping your heart out in others. It’s packed with plot… tension… and nonstop suspense. I was seriously on the edge!!
This is a YA closed-door story and it gives major, The Vampire Diaries vibes… think teenage supernatural drama, but with angels and demons instead. This story will leave you wanting more… be warned it ends on a cliffhanger!!
Becca Sullivan’s Veilbreaker is a tense YA paranormal romance that raises the stakes after Guardian, as Rhi becomes a target while uncovering dangerous truths about her celestial ties.
Veilbreaker hooked me with its immediate sense of danger and the feeling that nothing Rhi believed in is stable anymore, especially as the cracks between the human and celestial worlds start widening. What stood out most was the emotional pull—Rhi being caught between Justin and Kiran isn’t just romantic tension, it’s messy, painful, and constantly shifting in a way that keeps you invested in every interaction.
The slow unraveling of secrets about who she really is adds a layer of suspense that builds an uneasy, almost breathless momentum throughout the story. It feels intense, atmospheric, and emotionally charged, especially when loyalties start blurring and even love feels risky.
This is for you if you like forbidden romance and mythology-driven drama.
My thoughts on this book are A PLENTY. How much I can say is not much without spoilers. The tension between Justin, Kiran, and Rhiannon really heats up in Veilbreaker, but I’m only holding a candle for one☝🏻of our MMC’s ♥️ The revelations I expected were so much bigger (and shocking) than I anticipated. There is a much larger game at play than I ever could’ve imagined… and unexpected players 👀 This entire book is the definition of expect the unexpected.
I did enjoy seeing Rhi’s friendships grow throughout this book. It was something I loved in Guardian and hoped to see more of. MIA IS A VIBE. I love her. We all want her as a BFF 💕
After reading book 1 a few months ago, I was very excited to be diving into Veilbreaker and find out what happened next! And yall.. I ended up enjoying this one so much more than I did Guardian. However, that could be because I’ve been more into fantasy lately, but I digress. The writing was absolutely gorgeous and very descriptive. Seeing everything unfold from the perspectives of Rhi, Kiran, and Justin was just >>> There were so many new layers to this novel that had me hooked!
While reading, I had no idea whether I wanted to root for Justin or Kiran. They both deserve the world. At this point, I was like, "Girl, just why choose this and have both brothers." 😂 Just kidding (kinda). I do think that they all needed to take a moment and properly talk things out though, haha. Anyway, the ending was just... ✨️wow✨️ I was left with so many thoughts and questions, and I cannot wait to see what will be in store for us next.
Veilbreaker is a strong continuation that expands the world and deepens the story in all the right ways. Picking up after Guardian, it slowly reveals new layers, connections, and questions that keep you fully invested without ever feeling overwhelming.
The character dynamics remain a highlight, with emotional tension that adds weight to every choice and interaction. There’s a clear sense that something bigger is unfolding, and just when things start to make sense, the story shifts again in a way that keeps you hooked.
Overall, this sequel builds beautifully on what came before and leaves you eager for the next installment.
A great setup for what’s to come. This sequel answers many of the questions left behind in Guardian, while introducing new characters and developments that keep the story engaging throughout.
I’m definitely hooked—and already looking forward to book three.
Becca Sullivan has absolutely outdone herself with this sequel. If you thought the world-building in book one was intense, Veilbreaker takes everything to a completely different level. What I loved most about this installment was the pacing of the revelations. Sullivan masterfully answers the burning questions left over from the first book, but she doesn't let you get too comfortable. For every mystery solved, three more captivating enigmas take its place, keeping the stakes impossibly high and the "just one more chapter" urge very real. The expansion of the magic system and the introduction of new creatures added such a rich, vibrant layer to the story. The atmosphere felt more immersive and dangerous than ever. If you're looking for a sequel that honors the original while fearlessly expanding the lore, this is it. I am officially spiraling with new theories and cannot wait for the next book!
